Well, no, life is going good. I mean, I can't complain about much, uh, I guess. So we're we're like you said, we're still alive and kicking and we're doing well. It's uh we're surviving this the summer. Um that's about you know, that's it. It's work and and sleep and eat, and that's it. We do it all again over the next day and over and over again, right? So yeah.

Um today I'm experiencing a headache, but that's uh you know that's that's new for me. Uh what else has been done okay? Uh it's uh I've had some hip flexor issues. Okay. Um, so I've been going to physio for that. That fucking hurts. And then because your hips were your all your whole leg system works together because my hips were out, and then my knees went out, and now my toes are out. So they've been working on all that. I'm like, how the fuck? And I'm like, I started noticing this weird pain when I was driving because you would use your right foot to you know give your gas and hit the brakes, whatever it is. And that movement between your the gas pedal and your brake pedal, uh, it was fucking hurting. I'm like, what the fuck is going on? Like, come on, man. So I went to physio, he stretched me out. I'm doing all these weird stretches and shit. Like, I just see the whole aging thing sucks. I slept wrong. Uh, I was in Seattle last weekend. I saw a couple shows, and uh, I slept wrong in the hotel bed, and like I couldn't feel the fingertips, my fingertips for like three days, and then I couldn't feel my toe fingertips for toes for like three days. Um, I went to physio for that. The guy's like, hold on a second, he just pushes on my back, and like he had like he felt down to like I think he said like the C6 and just pushed on it, and then like as he was pushing on it, I was getting re like feeling again in my feet and my toes, which was really weird. But uh yeah, so you we can even fuck ourselves up sleeping, is what I'm trying to get to say, and getting old sucks.

It's it's pretty bad when we start every episode here, or we probably do anyway, so I don't know. It's it's been a while, but we start every episode with uh how the fuck we're feeling and what's broken this month, yeah, or today. And it's always something for sure. And so so you mentioned you you know your hip flexor. Well, I went to physio the other. See, my neck, my shoulders, and my back have been fucked for a long time, but I'm also getting pain in my hips, and it it could be uh a family hereditary thing because especially on my dad's side, everybody in the family had fucked up hips and they uh had replacement surgery and all that kind of shit. So that's what I got to look forward to. But but yeah, so my hips have been bothering me. So I went to to to my RMT last week for the first time in a couple months, maybe three months. It's been a couple months for sure. And uh I I mean it this is kind of obvious, but because your your back and your pelvis are so locked together and there's so much going on there with your joints and your muscles and everything that you know they could be playing with each other, right? My my hip could be affecting my back, my back could be affecting my hip. Um yeah, so it's just it's there's always something and aches and pains every day, it just really sucks.

You know, I've I've chalked it down to if you can breathe out your nostrils and you can walk without having an issue, like just to get in around, you're okay. If if the little aches and pains to kind of go, it's it's okay. But if you can if you can breathe and you can sleep when you breathe, and you wake up and you can go take a piss by yourself and not fucking hobble around, it's a it's a good day. Wow, you know, yeah. I'm sitting the bar real high there.

Well, you are, you are, but but you're right. I mean, you you're gonna have aches and pains as you get older. There's nothing much you can do about it, but you can and I hey, I'm I'm bad for it, I admit. I should be doing more, uh plan to do more, and I never do, but you know, there's simple things that you can be doing every single day to you know for your mobility, for your strength. You know, not that I want to build big muscles or anything like that. It's a big uh fucking meathead, but just to tone things up and maybe lose a little bit of weight and flexibility is really important, and probably probably I mean fill flexibility and strength again, not not the big muscle thing, but just those two things are uh can really make a difference to your everyday life as you get older. And I just need to be better. That's that's I need to be better.

So I have started looking into yoga classes. Um but the problem with my schedule is like the earliest I'm sleeping but every night is probably about 3 a.m. And all these fucking classes are for you day walkers up at 7 a.m. and doing it. So like you know, even getting up, I I'm up in on a good day with an alarm set, I'm up in between uh 10 and uh 10 and noon. It's mostly around 10 o'clock, but there's no 10 o'clock or 11 o'clock classes. Like, I'll get up an extra 20 minutes early to go to a class to stretch it out, but there's nothing available, so I'm just like, what the fuck? So just been trying to stretch out here and just do what the physio guy says. And contrary to what you believe, the physiotherapy knows what he's talking about because if you start stretching out pretty good, you feel pretty good after so yeah, for sure.

Um, you know, I've always wondered about those. There's a it's been open a couple years now, but just in our building here uh uh on Hornby Street, there's a Pilates place that's opened up, and you know, you can walk by and uh look inside is just as you know, you can peek as you're cruising by and see what's going on and stuff, and they're always really busy. And it I mean, it's it looks I mean, stuff like that would probably be helpful. I'm not saying I'm gonna do it or anything, even though maybe I should. Uh, it's just stuff like that. I'm not good, and we've talked about this before when we were speaking with uh who who's there, the fitness coach that we had here. Oh Hannah. Hannah yeah, you know, obviously I I went to to see her for like 10 sessions and and it was great. You know what? I I'm not complaining, she was awesome, and uh it was good for me, but I'm not good with the paying money, paying money, especially on a monthly basis, and and making sure I get my money's worth. Um, I'm definitely bad for that. And to to sign up for a gym, to sign up for Pilates class or yoga class or whatever it might be. Yeah, I'm always afraid the money is just gonna go to waste. And um yeah, so uh so I don't know. Um I don't sorry, no, go go go ahead because I was gonna move on to something else, another health thing.

I it it was uh and I'm just like, oh my god, like which is why like I feel that if you're in a like I I've done one yoga class and I was in a group setting, so it wasn't too bad. Uh they got some different things. I'm gonna try to work my life into trying to do some more because I enjoy the class environment. I think it's um I think it I think it's beneficial because you're doing it with other people and you can see other people struggling so you don't feel like a jackass. You know what I mean? So I think the class environment too, and like it's just that your local rec center, like the YMCA across the street, might have some yoga classes or some shit like that. So um that's I'm gonna try it. I'll I'll I'll fill everybody in, okay? I'll be the guinea pig for it. So um yeah, that's it. Sorry to cut you off.

No, no, no, no, that's yeah, that's that's fine. And and you know, like you said, you talk about cost, and and you know, when you're seeing a fitness coach, it's one-on-one, so it is going to be more expensive. Whereas these classes, I guess, with a group of people, it's uh it's probably a lot cheaper. And and like you said, it's probably a little bit more enjoyable to be around those other people who are kind of in the same boat as you, and I mean I'm sure there's probably some pretty fit people there at the same time, but yeah, um yeah, it's it's probably just a better and comfortable you know, scenario. And uh yeah, so uh so I don't know that's good. Uh I was gonna talk about one other thing that's kind of come up for me is uh well and I may have touched on it, I can't remember. When I was when I go to my RMT, you know, there were a couple times there where she commented after that I would be especially when I was on my back, I'd be so comfortable, I guess, that I'd be you know going into a light sleep, or I don't I don't think I'd actually fall into a deep sleep, but but I was I was comfortable and she noticed that I would stop breathing for short for for short periods of time. So obviously sleep apnea. Uh so I went to my doctor, told him about it. Uh he referred me to a sleep apnea clinic, and I went through a 48-hour test with them. So basically, you wear this this uh mask and monitor, and you know, they monitor a couple different things, your blood oxygen level, your heart rate, of course, and they've got you know they can measure your breathing and and that sort of thing. And uh yes, I mean I it it confirmed that I have sleep apnea. Two two main things. Obviously, it it it measured the number of episodes per hour, and obviously if it gets too high, or if it gets into uh uh if it gets above a certain range, it starts becoming a concern, and that's that is sleep apnea. And I have what's called a moderate, well, moderate form of sleep apnea, I guess. Um uh let's see, but but it all makes because it all makes sense. It's not only the number of episodes, but they can track your heart rate. So if you stop breathing, your heart rate's gonna go up. If you stop breathing, your blood oxygen level is gonna go down. And and and you know what? It it all makes sense now because I would notice this on my like the stats for my watch. And this was before this was before I found out about all this. I would notice my uh heart rate at times jump up during the middle of the night, and I didn't know why. And the more important thing is my blood oxygen level went low. And you know what? I attributed it to just um like a nightmare or something? No, no, just just to the watch wasn't working right, it's just not it's not reliable, right? And uh, I mean, I know the watches are a lot better, and they do a pretty good job, obviously, with some fitness tracking and your heart rate and all that stuff. But when it gets to you know blood oxygen levels and like I just like whatever, it's just it's probably wrong, right? It's fucking wrong. That's all there is to it. But but this lines up now with everything that I found out through this test and you know being diagnosed with sleep apnea. So um since the end of June, uh obviously I went through a trial period, but basically I've got a what's called a CPAP machine now, and I forget what C CPAP stands for, but um, but basically it's it it's a it's an ox, it's not an oxygen, but it's an air delivery system that is supposed to keep your airway open in the middle of the night. That's essentially what it what it does, and that theoretically is supposed to keep your uh the number of episodes down, your heart rate down, your blood oxygen up, and all that sort of stuff. So uh so I've been wearing this. Uh I don't have a full mask because I knew right away that it would be a problem. So I've got the two cannulas, it's like a nasal cannula, uh up the nose. Yeah. So um it it's it's I'm surprised that I was able to get used to it fairly quickly because I'm not a heavy sleeper. I toss and churn a lot. I still toss and churn a lot, yeah. But I've been wearing it now for about a month and a half, something like that. And uh it's going quite well. And if and if the stats are accurate, and I'm led to believe that they are, and everybody tells me that uh everything's looking good, but it's dropped the number of episodes per hour from above 17, which was the moderate sleep apnea, down to below five, which is a safe number.

So so it is working. Uh, I at least I think it's working. Uh again, I don't know that I feel better during the day, I don't know that I'm sleeping better. Um, maybe, maybe I am. I don't wake up as much in the middle of the night, I guess. Um, yeah. We'll see what happens over the next little while. But it's see, the thing is it's something that I'm probably gonna have for the rest of my life, right? What are the what are the causes of sleep apnea? There's a bunch of different things. I do have a deviated septum, though. So I don't I wonder, and that's a possible cause. Is it something I get fixed at this point in life? I don't like I don't know. It means getting surgery and shit like that, right? So I don't I don't know. I don't know. So anyway, that's uh another another thing that's popped up in this by uh my my golden I won't say golden years because I don't think I'm there yet, but but but you know what you know what I mean. It's uh it's it's it's always something. There's always something happening, and uh you know those things are relatively minor, I guess, compared to what else could be going on in in your my life, but fuck. It's that's the thing. It's all uh it's all downhill, man. It's all downhill from I don't know what point, but it's been downhill for me for a while.

Oh man. Sunshine and rainbows here. The uh I have a bunch of my friends who are on sleep apnea machines as well. Yeah, uh they have the Darth Vader masks. Uh yeah, buddy of mine named Max, he fucking always rips it off in the middle of the night. He says it's bullshit. Um, but another my good buddy Ron has the same thing you do, the nose tubes, whatever it is. Yeah, he actually had full uh reconstructive like jaw surgery. So they broke his jaw, moved it forward like four millimeters, he got braces on, and um, so he had to test. He had severe sleep apnea before. And they think he's had it forever. So they're like, if you do this, you don't have to wear the fucking machines and whatever it is, but they still have to go to the clinics and stuff. So did you go to the place at UBC and sleep on a fake bed for a little bit and then try it? Or did they bring you home and test it? What did you end up doing?

Yeah, I I brought it home. It was a small little monitor I strapped to my test or my chest. I mean, uh, I've got a heart rate monitor on my finger uh that measures heart rate, yeah, heart rate and blood oxygen. Uh yeah, the sensor on your chest records your chest movements. Um so a bunch of those things, right? And and then there's a pressure, all of it has a pressure thing, because I've got a pair of can nasal cannulas, so it monitors your breathing that way as uh as well. But um yeah, pressures and and and all kinds of things. So um that was just like I said, a 48-hour test I did here at home. And yeah, um yeah, see, I'm nowhere near as bad as what that guy what your body is going through. Like, holy shit, that's pretty that is pretty major, and and again, that's yeah, it is severe, and I'm not even anywhere near that. So crazy.

But since his surgery, so he had it done last summer, so it's been about a year, and I was actually with him the other night. We were just drinking some beers and playing some video games, and um, you know, from I've seen him since the recovery phase all the way to like now, and it's he's like nine-day difference. He says he's sleeping better. Okay and he's um it sucks that you know sleep is supposed to rest you and you know make it, but it can be like if you're stopping breathing when you're sleeping, that's like that's not good. So I'm happy that there are some ways to get that diagnosed and some methods at home too. Because it's not just you, like I think it's I think he said something like the stats like one in every five people have sleep apnea. Like it's not it's a pretty common thing, yeah.

Uh I I think so too, and obviously there's many causes, um, deviated septum, obviously, some physical things going on in your body that is causing it, uh being overweight, uh high blood pressure can cause it. Um I forget all of the different things that uh that might be on that list, but yeah, it's and you're right. Like like you said, most people probably don't even know that they have it. I didn't know that I had anything wrong with me, and I've probably been dealing with this for a long time, right?

So uh what about the uh your partner there? Did she realize that you were sleeping or is she just fucking out dead to the world?

Oh, she's dead to the world, anyways. Yeah, she she puts her head down and she starts snoring right away. So it's uh um yeah, she probab and again she's she's uh mostly deaf in one ear, so if she's lying on her good ear, she can't hear fuck all, right? So she has no idea what's going on.

Um so since we talked, fuck we we missed all of FIFA. So uh was FIFA awesome to you? Was downtown a shit show? What was uh what were your experience during uh the Vancouver FIFA run?

Yeah, well, you know, uh I think we everybody probably knows I'm not a big soccer fan. I never really have been. Um I'm one of those people that that you know make fun of the sport at times, and and maybe it's not fair because they they are they are great athletes, they are in excellent physical condition. There's no question about that. But you know, when you see them fall like they've been shot all the time, it's it's just you know, hey, there's the those spikes are hard, man. I know, and if you get kicked with those shoes, I know it's gonna hurt, but still the way they fucking just fall, it's just ah man, it's just it makes it it it ruins the sport, it it really does. You know, there was a and I forget the match, it was Morocco against I can't remember, and that was the big controversy, I think, over that one. Is uh anyways, one of the Morocco players basically doubt dove, like it was an outright dive. And and to me at first it looked like maybe he tripped or something like that. And and I think it could have even happened uh on a goal that they scored, and because of his foul, they reviewed it, and the goal got overturned, and Morocco lost. But but, anyways, you know, you look at that, and it's it was an outright, they obviously slowed it down, multiple angles, all that sort of stuff. He dove, man. There's like he dove, and you feel bad for the because the guy the player was obviously really upset when that goal got overturned. And um you know, you feel bad for the guy, but at the same time, it's like fuck you fell like you fucking got. Shot man, it was obvious. Like, what what are you what are you thinking? And so it's I mean, it's just it's it's stuff like that, and then the corruption and all that shit that goes along with it, you know, the the the president of FIFA or whatever his title is, he's a fucking corrupt asshole, and of course, you get Trump thrown in there, and it's just a big fucking joke, and um, you know, so it it uh corruption in FIFA has been going on for years as well, so it's it's uh it's just it's really sad that the players are are affected by it, especially at this level. I mean, players are playing for the country, and you got the all of this other bullshit going on that just kind of ruins it. But anyway, that aside, that aside, I watched, I did watch a lot of the games. I watched watched a lot of the matches, and and um there were some great games. There there really was. There were some really good games, um, and I enjoyed it overall. Uh hey, I'll watch sports no mat almost every sport, no matter what, and just because I'm a sports fan. And uh yeah, so I I enjoyed watching the games. Downtown Vancouver was just a fucking shit show. It was really busy. Um, you know, lots of lots of people around. I mean, you know what? It's still busy downtown, even though FIFA's over, because there's just tons of people in Vancouver traveling right now, and it's it's a busy summer all around. Every hotels are packed, restaurants are busy. Um, so yeah, there's people everywhere. But uh I dropped by the fan center at um the convention center a couple times, and uh there they were on days where it wasn't as packed as what maybe you saw on TV at times, because that plaza was just jam-packed with people. And here here's a comment about that though. T SN was broadcasting from there while Canada was still playing, while there were still games played in Canada and Vancouver specifically, and they had two TVs set up on the side, and then in the middle was their broadcast center, their stage, and all that sort of stuff. Those number one, those TVs were not mounted high enough unless you were sitting right there. I don't know if you went there or not, unless you were sitting through the plaza ones, yeah. Unless you were sitting right there or standing there, you could not see the TVs. If you were at the back, like if you were at the back when it was fucking crowded, like yeah, like you can't you you're fucked, you can't see fuck all. Yeah, like so. I don't know. Sure, it's great to be around fans and have a good time, it's a great atmosphere, all that sort of stuff, but you can't fucking watch the games. So what what what like what the fuck? So T SN should have mounted those TVs higher. Uh it wouldn't take a they don't need to be up on a big fucking tower to to to see, but you know, another could could they go up another five feet, maybe that would have made a big difference right there. Uh and number two, why did they stop broadcasting from there despite uh no more games being played here in Canada? Because they like like I like I don't I I don't understand that. I I really don't because again, there's there were still fans in Vancouver, there were still downtown was still busy, people were still excited, the bars were full, all that sort of stuff. Why not why not you know make it for the entire tournament? I don't get because uh they're still broadcasting the games.

Yeah, so yeah. Why did they think and and obviously thousands of international fans? It's not just Canadian fans, just because Canada's not in or games are not in Canada anymore. There's thousands of international hockey uh football fans in in Vancouver. And yeah, I just don't, you know, I don't know. I don't get paid the big bucks to make these decisions for these broadcasters, but I think they fucking failed big time.

So well that happened, yeah. We've we've that was a common thread in Vancouver. So did you do any of the fan fest zones besides that plaza? Did you go to the PE or at all, or did you uh hit the shipyards or uh no, no, I heard the shipyard was really good.

I I heard that was a better one than what than what was happening downtown, so that might have been that might have been good. And then the one uh at the PE at the and the new amphitheatre amphitheater there. I think that would have been because it was right at the amphitheater, was it right in the whatever that freedom something thing is called Freedom Freedom Mobile Arch. Yes, that's it.

So um it was so I uh I saw a couple free shows there. Um, I went and saw John Butler, Bob Moses, and Our Lady Peace there. So the new arch is fucking awesome. Yeah, uh it sounds awesome in there, cool lights, great stage. Uh but they didn't there's lights in the ceiling, which they didn't have on, like in the arch itself. You've seen it this big like wooden beast of a structure. Like it looks really cool. Yeah, cool bathrooms, like good food, uh nine dollar beers, which isn't too bad. Um, but so we watched a couple games there uh just before waiting for the shows. But uh during the last Canada game when they played at BC Place, it was on that Wednesday. I actually fucking got up early and went, and it was part of the madness. So I went to uh the girlfriend and I went to uh got off at Main Street and then the march all the way through the crowd and shit. That was so fucking cool. Like, yeah, um I bought my first piece of Canada gear. I've never had like a Canadian jersey, so I bought a Canadian jersey for a hundred bucks. Um and yeah, we were walking through it, and then we wandered up to Gravel Street and uh tried to find somewhere to watch that game. We actually ended up watching it at the Commodore. Um remember Allie? Um she was uh she's Craig Stone's ex. Um she still works at the Commodore. Okay, and uh she posted on her story, hey, we're doing a watch party. So as we were walking up, and it was also like a scorcher of a day. It was like maybe 32, 33 degrees. Yeah. Uh we're walking up, hey, the commodore's open, let's go. So we walked in there and sat right at the bar and watched the Canada game from the bar. It was cool. It was actually really awesome. And that's you know, that's the I've seen a couple shows this year. I still haven't been to the Commodore yet for a show. Oh, really? That was my first event of the Commodore this year. Which August I have shame, shame. Yeah, but um the energy downtown for especially when Canada was playing was fucking cool. Yeah, it wasn't um I don't like I was we were at Sea Fox during the 2010 Olympics, so we're just kind of in the thick of it there, but like being kind of an outsider and kind of walking around and doing things and just being a part of the energy and no quote unquote media credentials, yeah. It was a different vibe, and I I I quite enjoyed it. Like it was uh it was a it was a great day all around. So cool. Yeah, it's um it was it was really fun. Um so were you uh because you uh we live in Vancouver and you don't cheer the for the Canucks, you cheer for the Bruins. So were you cheering for Canada? Who was your team during the FIFA stuff?

Yeah, I don't I don't think I I really had a team. Obviously, uh I was I was happy to see Canada do well, and I mean that's it's the best they've ever done at this at this stage. Um so yeah, I mean sure it kind of sucks. People were disappointed they they lost when they did, but but yeah, you you have to look big picture at how far the the program has come here in Canada, and uh and it's just amazing. And I think it's just on its way up, and it's I think it's gonna do so much for the sport in Canada as a whole. And uh so that that's that's really cool. I I think um yeah, I I didn't really have a favorite. There were some teams that I'm glad lost uh America. Um uh I think everybody jumped on the Norway bandwagon. Uh they were they were a fun team, fun to watch. Um I I think I think they were considered kind of an underdog in some ways, but at the same time, they've got a good team. Everywhere everywhere I I read that they they could be a an upset team, and I think they did I think they had an upset there to get to the they made it to the quarterfinals, right? Yes, yeah, yeah. And I think it was uh in the minds of the experts apparently that you know I don't know that they were expected to make it that far, and it was they were fun to watch. So so that was cool. I'm glad England, everybody dumped on England. I think a lot of people dumped on England, but I'm glad they uh kind of beat France there in the for the bronze medal for third place. Um I think everybody was happy to see Argentina lose too in the final. I don't I think everybody hates well, I shouldn't say hates, but I I heard a lot of people say that they just didn't want Argentina to win, so um so so yeah, but but you're right. Like we walked we walked down Denman Street at times. I didn't go to Granville too much because it was pretty crazy overall, but we were just doing other stuff, walk and we walked down Denman, and it was and and the the cool thing is that everybody had TVs on the patio, even even the the restaurants or that didn't have an official patio, they still had TVs so that people walking down the street could watch the matches and and even when Canada's not playing. That's and that's the thing. There's so many international football fans there that that yeah here that you know everybody was enjoying the the tournament, and um uh and so yeah, so that was really cool. Stuff like that, right? Is you know, just to to to have so many people um focused on the sport uh in this city for however many weeks it was, you know, what was it uh four or five weeks long or something like that? Yeah. So football is again, as much as I dump on it, football is a an international, probably the biggest sport in the world. Uh obviously kids can't afford to play other sports in in some countries and they grew up playing football, and and that's that's what they all dream to to do as they get older is to grow up and be a football star. And I know not everybody makes it, but but yeah, it's a it's a it's a big deal across the world. And um you know, a lot of people probably think hockey's the sport here in Canada, and it probably is, uh at least amongst Canadians. And um yeah, so it was just uh it was it was a it was a fun time overall, like uh like I admit, it's yeah, as uh as somebody who was kind of in the center of things, um it didn't affect us too much despite being busy, but yeah, it was it was kind of cool to be a a a part of it, at least as much as we you know got involved.

Uh the stadium exit, there wasn't really much you couldn't really get to the arena, you would still have to go to the Miracle Mile thing. So Main Street was busy. So I was at Main Street like four out of the six games or something like that. Then I was at stadium for one of the games. Um, but yeah, everyone was well behaved. The trains did awesome, Sky Train did great. Um yeah, it was pretty much, you know, it was busy as fuck, but it wasn't like it wasn't overly, it wasn't too bad. Like they're running rush hour service, there was a train every two minutes, like they were it was moving. So uh I think I think it had it pretty well. And uh I was reading some reports afterwards, and it said Vancouver is actually a really good host city for shit like this because you can get people in and out of the court pretty quick. Yeah, but yeah, it was uh I think it was a good time. I think everybody had a great time, and I certainly had a great time. So um, and again, I'm like you, I don't I I fucking hate soccer, but it was cool watching. Um it was cool watching you know, just everybody play, and everybody understands the concept. You have two teams and you shoot it. There's no like real offsides, there's no you know, super penalties unless you're being a bitch. You know what I mean? Like you're watching hockey or football or lacrosse even or basketball, they got a bunch of different rules. Soccer's pretty easy to pick up and play. So I feel that and you're right, like a lot of none of like the poorer countries only have soccer, they kick a ball around and do it. Like it's it's pretty easy to pick up and play, and easy to like alternate TV and watch. So yeah, um I think that it kind of brought everybody together because it was such an easy game to pick up and go with.

So yeah, uh, unless I'm paying $50 for a game, I don't think I'm gonna be attending very many sporting events anymore. It's just it's just not my thing. And bitch at me all you want, but uh yeah, I'd rather go see a concert and because music's a big part of our lives, and uh, I'd rather go see that show than spend it on a sporting event.

Like it's like this is the third year in a row now, I think, that they've increased quite significantly the cost of a subscription. And what did it go up to now? It went up to close to $350 now. It used to be not that long ago. I mean, it used to be, I think, under $200. And that would yeah, I mean, that would get you all kinds of sports, but you would basically be able to watch any hockey game you wanted, and even but obviously I had issues with that too because the broadcasts were fucking shit. It's just and now you're gonna be paying twice as much uh for a shitty product. Like it's what like they don't they don't care, they just keep jacking up the price because they want more money, and like you know, you know what they're they're they're driving people to spend their money elsewhere, or they're driving people to pirate. And if I can block YouTube ads in particular, um, and they are not tracking me, uh, because they don't with the well, sure, yes, they they they still know what I'm watching and all that sort of stuff, I I guess, but some of the other tracking that they do, because I'm not on the website or whatever, or using their app, they can't track in other ways. So um the shield, the the latest shield is and we may be jumping off topic here a little bit, but the latest shield is I think it's seven or eight years old now. It's seven seven years old, and it's still they still give updates, they they are still updating the device software and firmware updates. They it's such an incredible and I mean that's why that's why they haven't bothered upgrading it because it's still a powerful machine and they still provide regular updates. And it's it's I mean, I know people like the Apple TV, and yes, if that's part of your um ecosystem or whatever you want to call it, and you enjoy the product, then then go for it. But in many ways, the shield is still a better device, and it still plays better better um files with different codecs that Apple TV can't, and and you know, a bunch of reasons. So anyway, oh yeah. Anyway, I know people use it for IPTV too. We don't um I don't really know how how it works to be honest with well, I do know how it works, but it's not uh it's not as straightforward as some people think. Sure, you don't have that physical disc, uh, but you bought it, and now Google is turning around and taking it away from you, anyways. Isn't that isn't that theft? Like it gave, like if you have an Apple, like it said all this, like if you have an Apple Watch, we take your sleep data, your health data, what medications you're on for like uh, you know, for a 43-year-old male. Like it had all these different things and it like directly linked your phone. So you couldn't use the free software on the fucking thing you bought without it going through and taking all the information off your phone for it to, you know, for it to activate the software. What the shit is with that? Like, that's the first time I've ever seen it like go that hardcore, like you know, I mean, oh yeah, we'll tracker cookies, shit. Yeah, okay, fine, no problem. But to go through and like take the actual data off your phone, like, hey, if you have this, this is what we're gonna do. And like, where are you where are you sending all this shit to? Like, how is that how is that even legal? Like, is that's what I want to know. But uh, they found some way around it. So, I mean, like, do you create a we should be able to create like ghost accounts on your phones, like just run a sandbox on your phone so you can have a dummy account with no information on it, just apps just to get them to work, you know what I mean? But yeah, everything's all tied into the phone operating software. And I wonder if they do that on purpose, but uh, because you can do that with websites, you can browse into sandbox and do different VPNs and all that shit, right? But like on your phone and stuff, you can't do that. Like, it's you pretty much have to say, yeah, so you can't use that piece of software.

Obviously, there are other you know, Google, Samsung, they all have something similar called that has to do with smartphone connecting your devices, uh saying uh to a you know basic something like hey Google living room light on, something like that, right? Well, Home Assystem is its own private and open source. See, I said hey Google in my uh stupid phone and trying to listen to me now, and I thought I'd turn that off. And uh anyway, um with these proprietary devices like cameras, like my like our robots uh our uh automated our robo vacuum, whatever, what is it called? Roomba? Yeah, Roomba, it's not a Roomba, but yes. You you can't you can because it's it's because it's community-based, because people are developing different plugins uh and they're all free, you can basically connect your cameras, all of these different devices to your to your home assistant server and run it through that server, and it doesn't communicate with the outside world at all unless you wanted to, of course. But even then, you have control over it. You know, obviously, if you're out of your home and you want to use your smartphone to to whatever turn on your lights so that they're on when you get home, stuff like that, right? But all of it is yours and it all of it remains on your home network. And that's cool, and that is that is really cool. And I and a lot of sh and a lot of people do this because obviously they don't want these large companies to be spying on you because that's essentially what they're doing. There's they're spying on you, they're tracking you, and yeah. Um I've been I've been tinkering certainly not as much as I want to with the home assistant for a long time now, and it's nowhere near as I've always got something else to do, it seems, so I don't really get to pay attention to it. And I should because it's it's stuff that will benefit us without all of this other with uh privacy and security implications. And um, yeah, I I've got to commit more time to it because it's something that and it doesn't, you know, we don't we don't have a you know, you can you can open your garage opener uh or you can open your garage with you know home assistant. You can yeah, you can all your webcams if your devices like your washer, dryer, fridge, if they are smart home capable, you can control them all through Home Assistant, and you don't need to connect to these servers, these cloud servers, and these proprietary uh companies, so that they can track you, right? You can all do it within your home home, and um it's uh and we don't have all of those devices, of course, just simple things. So if I my my one camera, I can do my lights, I can do my my home speakers, my son. The NVIDIA shield even connects to Home Assistant, and you can yeah, you can run your shield through Home Assistant and and and all that sort of stuff, right? It's so it's it's so cool, and it is it's not that complicated, really. So it's something I wanted to uh yeah, I've got a I've gotta spend more time on it.

So uh I think I was pretty hammered for that. I don't really remember it too well. Um, but uh I ended up buying tickets for uh the ACDC show on Thursday here. It's pretty reckless. It was the same tour that rolled through last year at some point, and I was like, ah fuck, do we go? Do we not go? Was it last time, whatever? But I truly believe this will be their last time. They're fucking looking pretty old on stage. But yeah, um, some of the footage I've seen of the show looks fucking pretty cool. So uh I'm pretty uh pretty excited about that. Um, I ended up getting tickets off Ticketmaster. I was looking at you know the resale sites, whatever it was. I'm like, I'm only gonna go if I'm in the pit. And the pit tickets were like $500. I'm like, fuck, I'm out of playing that. But Ticketmaster actually had uh they released a bunch of seats for the pit, and it was like $345 to get in. Okay. So I mean still still pretty pricey, but uh yeah, it is for sure. Uh checking that out. I've never been in the pit for ACD show. I don't think it's gonna be anything crazy, but uh it's uh it'd be cool to get up there and see because I've never seen them from the pit before. I think uh that rock and roll train show, I was like 29th row on the floor with seats at the Coliseum. But uh last one I was in the stands, like nosebleeds or a suite, I don't remember, but uh this one should be pretty okay. Uh but you know, having saying that 345, whatever it is, the Foo Fighters with Queens was you know $425. Um, so like shit's not cheap, man. I was like, what the shit is this? I was so mad, but anyways, um, so we're but we're right on the beach, and that was the selling point. Yeah, and uh like being able to walk on the beach and and check it out. And I got a fucking great photo I gotta send it to you. Uh, but um it was it was super awesome, but then the next day it rained. So I have a great photo of me on the beach, and I'm just like like it's sunny and it's great. The next day I'm on the beach and I'm holding a fucking umbrella and it's fucking raining. Um but I I met up uh but it ties into rush. So I met up with Cory Price. Remember Cory Price? Yeah, yeah, because he lives out there still, right? He lives lives in Tefino, so I met up with him. Uh Tefino is fucking uh Tefino and Lakulit. Everything's on one road, yeah. And he's like he he knows everybody in the town. He he's obviously still a music guy, plays, plays in a band, still plays in a couple bands up there. He hosts Trivia Night up there, so everybody knows who Corey is. Yeah, he walked into Fino Brewing, he was like a king, so we're sitting next to a king. But uh he was telling me that uh every every couple months he gets really drunk and listens to Rush's 2112. Yeah, and then he phones Danger, uh, and he goes, he goes, Danger, I'm having a soiree. He's like, Great, what album are we listening to today? He's like, We're listening to Rush 2112. So he cops a couple drinks and they sit there and they FaceTime and they talk about Rush while they're just getting hammered. And I think that's the greatest thing of all time.

I'm back to dual boot, so I'm running Windows 11 now as we're chatting, and obviously things are hopefully running, hopefully the recording is good and you know everything's worked out, but I didn't have the problems on Windows with the broadcast that I did on Linux. Um but but you know what? This laptop now is seven year over seven years old. And um I'm running dual boot, like I said, but you know what? Since I since I set up the dual boot and I looked at had to look on at dates and stuff like that, install dates and whatever. Uh I did that on June 3rd, so it's been two months. Today is the first day that I booted into Windows since I installed the dual boot. I've been running Linux, Linux exclusively. I actually I'm running now Kubuntu. So I was on I was on Debian exclusively. Uh I'm now for the dual boot, I'm running Kubuntu. It's a flavor of Ubuntu. Um and it's great. Yeah, I mean that the the laptop is the battery life is so much better. The everything about it, almost everything about it, and I say almost because that's why I'm running dual boot now. But almost everything about it is so much better. It's just and that's not to mention your privacy privacy and security shit that you'd have to deal with when you know with Windows and Microsoft. So um lots of people are doing it. Old computers and PCs, but MacBooks too. You know, you have to you have to look at the uh what model of MacBook you have, and then maybe just investigate a little bit to see which flavor of Linux is the best for that particular piece of hardware, but and see what happens. It's uh hey, if you could still power that device on, um I would switch up to Linux and use it for something for sure.

You know, they were around in the mid 2000s, so like 2005, 2006, something like that. I think they put out a couple albums at that time, and basically they they dropped off the face well, they didn't drop off the face of the work because the singer went on to a band called 40 Watt Sun. I believe. Not as heavy. Um, definitely not as heavy, but uh but but you but but here's the thing I I didn't know about these guys, I didn't know about uh this band Warning and then I didn't know about 40 Watt Sun. And uh great stuff. Like this album is is so good, and people apparently have been fans have been crying for an album, a for uh an album from Warning for such a long time now, and so it's been 20 years since their last studio recording. This album's called Rituals of Shame. Uh uh this out this this is the title track, and um just great stuff. The vocals, his voice is so haunting and sounds so fucking sad, and I don't think that's intentional, but but yeah, it's just it works for me.

Uh, so I don't know if you remember, but while we were recording, I keep my uh El Gato face cam behind my TV, and I was putting it away after we recorded one day, and the USB A dongle just tapped the screen and it chipped the fucking screen. Yeah. So I was I was pissed, and I had a dead pixel like borderline center for you know three years. But so, anyways, the TV I turned on one day, the TV just it beeps, beeps, beeps and turns on, turns off, turns on, turns off. So, what that uh error code means is the power supply died. So I called some shops around town because I didn't really want to spend money on a new set. Uh so I called around some shops because ideally, what I really wanted to spend my summer money on this year was to buy a smoker to smoke some meat. But uh I called some shops to figure out how much a repair would cost. They said it was $900 for that little power supply. And I'm like, I'm like, well, I have a chip screen too. Can you fix that? Yeah, that's a thousand bucks. So you're telling me it's costing me $1,900 to fix this, you know, seven-year-old TV that I have? He goes, Yep. I'm like, how the fuck are you guys still in business? He's like, you know, the bars and stuff that have their like the steel cages and the TV sitting there. I'm like, yeah. He's like, they don't make those anymore. So we just keep replacing them and they keep coming back. I'm like, holy fuck. Uh so I just went online and um I uh Googled best TVs because I use I use the TV in my room strictly mostly for gaming. So I just picked whatever the whatever was in my price point for TVs, and I ended up picking up a sound another Samsung sets. Uh it's the Q90. So or no, so QN990F, whatever the fuck that means. It's a 55-inch and it's a step below the top of the line, which is the QN90F. Yep. Um so and the price for this was it was $22.99, but they had a thousand dollars off because they're getting all the new stock. Yeah, so I I picked it up for uh it was like $12.99. I grabbed it for it. So it came up to like $15 and some change after taxes. That's pretty good. Yeah, I'm pretty happy with it. You know, and I've mostly used my TV for gaming and stuff, so uh it has like the advanced game mode and stuff, and it just it looks pretty fucking cool. So all right on. I'm not uh pretty happy with that. It's uh it's not bad.

I looked at the Samsung. I looked at the QN95F series, like it was it was basically uh comparable to the LG G5 series that we ended up picking up. Uh we ended up buying. I think the same price points, um specs are are basically the same, you know, ratings are basically the same. So uh I obviously decided to go with the LG. Been happy with it. But um but yeah, I again uh at that time last year it was uh just released new really released TV, so we spent a bit of cash on it, that's for sure. Hopefully it's gonna last. But it's um yeah, I've been enjoying it. Like the Dolby for me, yes, I've still been watching stuff in Atmos and I've been downloading, sorry, I've been I've been renting uh movies, um you know, Dolby Vision and Adolby Atmos. Um and you know, even if you know, even if they aren't rated as being, you know, the you know must watch 4K or ultra HD movies. I've been you know trying to watch everything as high resolution as possible. I mean hey, it's got the TV and this and the Sonos Atmos system for it, why not why not use it? Um but yeah, I think I think your TV probably comes with Dolby Atmos as well. Does it does it not? Yes. Or not Dolby Atmos, Dolby Vision. Yes. Um so it's it's the way to go now, and you notice such such a difference. Uh you know, some some stuff that we watch is not in in Dolby uh Adolby Vision. But you know what? I I think the TV is so good now, and of course we watch through the NVIDIA shield. Um you know, so I don't know if it upscales or or or what it does, but you know, the even if it isn't ultra HDs, some of the stuff we have been watching uh has been pretty good. And it's you know, so they're great TVs. I I'm sure your Samsung and my LG are are still kind of more top of the line sets nowadays. And um yeah, it's hard to hard to go back to anything else now, that's for sure, if we have to do it.

Still HDR 10, HDR, yeah, HDR 10, and of course there's HDR 10 plus now, which yeah, which uh is supposed to obviously enhance the the picture even even more. But I don't know. Uh I don't know how it compares. They say it doesn't really if you have Adobe Vision, HDR 10 Plus is probably not that much of a step step up anyway. So I'm not concerned about it.

So for they're for different things. So your LG your LG TV supports all that stuff, which is fucking awesome. Yeah, so but so yeah, this uh it's it's cool stuff, man. Like even the Adobe Vision HDR or whatever, it all if it's a high enough 4K, 8K supported TV, it all looks fucking awesome regardless.

Um, so yeah, Silo has has restarted season three is out now. Uh Lioness season three has kicked off. That's a pretty good it's a it's a I don't know if you've seen any of it. Lioness is a pretty good uh series. Um yeah, I gotta get on that. It's uh it's a Taylor Sheridan series. Fuck he's he's doing everything. Uh he's got lots on the go because I didn't know this until we started watching it. Tulsa King is also a Taylor Sheridan series. Yeah. Yeah, so that's with Stallone. Uh where we finished season one. Um it's it's pretty good. Stallone's looking old, uh, but but it's not a it's not a bad series. Uh one worth watching is though uh is Widow's Bay. Widow's Bay is really good. It's with uh I forget the actor's name. Reese. What's the I forget his last name? He was in the Americans. Um I I can't even remember his last name. Oh Matthew, Matthew's. Yes, Matthew Rees. That's right. Sorry. Yeah. Yeah. So it's but it's a it's a pretty good it's a yeah, I think it's a well-done series. I think there's a season two. Uh season one certainly finished like there could be a season two. So uh I think it's been um rated quite highly by critics and by fans. So that's one to check out as well. Um bunch of other series and stuff are uh are on the go. Some of them are okay, some are not. Uh, movies we watched Disclosure Day last night, actually. It's not it's a it's a it's an entertaining movie. It's not what I expected, actually, but it's uh obviously with sp it's a Spielberg movie, it's uh it's not bad. A lot of people say it's kind of just a ripoff of E.T. or whatever, but uh or it should have come maybe sooner or maybe expanded on on ET from how many years ago or whatever it was. Anyway, uh it was okay. Apex was a pretty good movie in Ultra HD, and that was a uh pretty no, it was Apex was good with Charlie's Terran. Fall was good. Oh, yeah, yeah. Fall was pretty good. It was uh it was a just just two people who went across went on top of this broadcast tower and got stranded up there. Uh, but it wasn't bad. And then Star Trek. You mentioned Star Trek was a movie that definitely needed to be watched and on in Ultra HD, and yeah, it that was pretty good. It was entertaining. Yeah, yeah. So those were the ones that stand out for me. Uh like you said, we've been we've watched lots though. So lots of stuff going on, and lots of stuff I need to catch up on here still, too.

Uh one comment or one concert coming up, uh coming in the later in August here is um, and we never talked about this band really at all, and I never played anything, is Angine Duportrine. They're the hit band. They are the big the big band right now, and they're doing three shows here in Vancouver. They all sold out, and people are pissed off that the bots and scalpers probably all bought them up because yeah, tickets are I mean, tickets sold out right away. And if you want to go to a ticket, the first two shows at the Pearl, uh, and then a third show at the Commodore, but like what what were sixty dollar tickets are selling for over $300, $400 now. Some are even more expensive than that. And I think it really pissed off a lot of people that you could you couldn't get a ticket for the show, for that show, right? For any of those three shows. And uh, like it's ridiculous. I I got a quick story, and you probably gotta go a quick story about that band. I you know what? When I first the first time I heard about them, uh they're a band from Montreal, if people don't know, and it's uh you you gotta you gotta you gotta just go to YouTube and watch their stuff. But the first time I saw them was their K K E X P show. Um and I and I put it on and I'm watching this and I'm kind of not paying attention. I'm thinking, well, you know, it sounds okay and stuff, but I don't know if it does anything for me. And you know, it's just kind of a gimmick the way these guys are dressed, and and you know, it's just another two-piece that seems to be the popular thing now that people are just so excited about, and I kind of brushed it off.

And anyway, so so I think I'm behind, but it whatever it was, I I started I I watched that video again and I really started paying attention and listening to what was going on, and it's like holy shit, and they like there is what they are doing is so amazing, and you know, especially live. You know, to do this stuff live and to create that sound live is just so amazing, and all of the different pedals and all of the different loops that the that they're doing to create this sound is just so cool. And again, to do it live is just it's uh it's amazing. It's amazing. And um actually those guys went out to Victoria to see the show last month and just they said it was just incredible. And um yeah, I won't be here at the end of the month. Uh not that I would pay $300 a ticket or more for to see them at this point, but but yeah, they that the band blew up. They really did. It's just like that's all people talk about now.

So every place they've played. And seeing the Arkels in the penthouse, like say what you want about these guys, but like they're like a they're rock, like arena rock size bands, and they it was so fucking cool. Like I had such a great time there. And they played their new album from front to cover, like you know, 12 songs, and uh, like I don't know if you're a fan or not, but the new album's okay. And then they played all their greatest hits, and they got a fuck ton of greatest hits. I was like, wow, this is it was actually one of the better shows I've been to all year. Like it stands out for me being a pretty good show. Yeah, but but I I love it when shit and see being able to see and expand the mind to see these guys at the Pearl or the Commodore, you know, it might change your mind 3,000 percent if you're seeing these guys at a at a small venue.
