Speaker 3

Yes. Nope. Oh, fuck. There it is. There it is. I fucked it. I fucked it up. I took a different breath. Screw it. Ruin Christmas.

Speaker 2

You'd probably have a better time picking your nose, but this is how you're choosing to spend your time listening to these guys.

Speaker 3

Well, at least they both love heavy metal. Here are the old men, Adam and Steven. Yes, welcome up to it. This is the Old Men Yellow Clouds podcast, and we get together to talk about the things that matter to us. We are episode number 160. As we recorded, it is February 15th, 2026. It's approximately 11 a.m. And we're podcasting live out of Vancouver, British Columbia.

Speaker

Good day. Hello. We would like to honor and acknowledge that we join you today from the traditional ancestral and unceded shared territory of the Musqueam, Squamish, and Tsleil-Waututh Nations.

Speaker 3

Yes, we do. Yes, we do. And that beautiful, marvelous voice you heard of Stephen, and my name is Adam, but first hello, Stephen. Hi, hi, Adam. Before we get into things that matter to us, you can support our podcast by hitting our webpage, theoldman.ca, and subscribing to our podcast. And if you want to help us out, please buy us a coffee. We need a coffee, okay? You know what? I was realized I haven't seen you like physically in like two years. Has it really been that long? Yeah, and then what uh so I had a friend who was actually back listening to our some of our episodes from our webpage, theoldman.ca, and uh they're like, has Steven ever listened to your audio system that you got installed three years ago? I'm like, you know what? I don't think he has. So we're gonna make that happen. We're gonna change that with the books.

Speaker

Well, because I mean I I did that was when we first started this thing, I think. We went for a cruise somewhere and uh I did hear it at that time, but you've made a little bit of a couple of things.

Speaker 3

Oh, it's been it's been yeah, it's updated, it's been retuned, it's it's it's marvelous. So uh we will figure that out and we'll take a photo just for you. So that is what we will do. Right on.

Speaker

Well, but we will do we we we've got to do it just to catch up, you know, period, right? You know, and uh sure I can listen to the to the system and stuff like that, but it's been uh it's been far too long. It really has and it's it's it's more than a hot minute. It's been a fucking slow fucking two years. No, that's not true. It's been a slow two years. That's not true. The time goes by real quick, man. It's like we're middle of February already. You know, we were wishing each other a happy new year, not that long ago. And now it's the fucking middle of February. Like, what's going on?

Speaker 3

Uh yeah, yesterday was Valentine's Day. How did you celebrate with your partner? We um we went for a walk.

Speaker

It turned out to be a nice day yesterday. Yeah, nice day today. Yeah, nice day yesterday. You know, because it was supposed to rain, I think. So we went out for a walk. We uh had some snacks and stuff like that down in Gastown. Nice. Um we were gonna head to Main Street and stuff, but yeah, the buses got s got messed up somehow. So yeah, they weren't they weren't running that way for some reason. I think there was some I don't know if there was a protest march or uh it was really busy around, that's for sure. Like Comic Con is happening, I think, isn't it? Yeah, lots of people around. Anyway, we um yeah, we just did that, and then we came home, sat around. I I uh had a did I have a snooze? I didn't even have a snooze. Maybe I did, I don't know. Can't remember. It was a it was an uneventful day. We watched a little TV or a movie after. We watched Tinker Taylor Soldier Spy, an old uh spy film. What's not that old? 2011.

Speaker 3

Oh shit.

Speaker

And that's about it. Really, really uneventful. How about you? I had to work, so the girlfriend hates me.

Speaker 3

Right. Uh we we celebrated the day before, so uh that's good. She came over on the on the Thursday. I made dinner, stayed in prawns, had a surf and turf thing going on. And then um yeah, next week uh we talked about it, but we're we're heading up to Squamish next week. We like Squamish, it's a far far enough getaway, and you can wander around Squamish. And you went to Squamish, right? You you enjoyed the Squamish trip.

Speaker

So we went over Christmas, yeah, and it was pretty cool.

Speaker 3

Yeah. So we go there maybe once uh once a quarter, I think. So are you gonna stay overnight? Yeah, we'll do the overnighter to a couple of the breweries around there and uh enjoy ourselves. Sounds good. Uh what's been happening with you, man? So you had some uh technical issues. Well you have a new mic, you have I don't know what's going on anymore.

Speaker

Well, it it's turned into technical issues, as you know. I think you start fucking around with things and it creates more work for yourself. And um and you know, in a way I in a way I love it because I'm you know learning and doing some different things, and uh but yeah, it's just like there I've got so many things I differ I want to do, and because I'm screwing around here now, it kind of sets everything else aside, and I've gotta focus on this stuff because anyway, what what I ended up doing, I've I've been I've been tired of Microsoft and Windows in particular for a long time, and we've talked about privacy and security a lot here. So I decided and I've done the dual boot thing in the past, right? So I've done dual boot Windows and a and a Linux um uh Linux flavor, I guess, if you want to uh distribution, however you want to call it. Yeah, and um I I don't know, I really thought about doing that again because I I've I've still been on Windows right up until just a couple weeks ago, and and I just you know, I just tired of of everything that's going on, and in my quest to try and uh reduce my footprint online, you know, data collection and ads and all this sort of stuff, I've decided that I'm going strictly Linux only. Nice. Um so so yeah, I think it's about time. Um but in doing so, it's uh you know, there's there's some challenges with hardware, you gotta set things up again. There's some different apps, there's some different things going on that kind of make it a little bit of a little bit of a challenge, I suppose. And um my the thing is, and I knew I was gonna run into this issue, Elgato and all of their products. So I we both have or yeah, we both have the Wave 3 mic. We both have a Stream Deck. Yep. I also have a key light here that I use. Um it's uh not that it's uh related to the uh the the broadcast or the recording here, but I've got a a uh Elgato green screen behind me. Uh anyways, you know, so I kind of went all in with them, and of course it works great in the Windows environment. I think it works well in in in for for Macs. It doesn't work for uh Linux, and they because the thing is you need you need to download their software in order for some of these things to work. Yeah, so in order to use the to use the mic, the Wave Mic 3. I mean I mean the mic is supposed to work out of the box regardless of what operating system you're you're using, but in order to use the software, it has to be a Windows or Mac environment. And um, so again, I knew I was gonna run into this problem, and I thought maybe I could work through it. Uh the problem is the mic doesn't even work. I'm running, I decided to go with Debian 13, and uh and then there's different how can I how can I describe it? I'm I'm sort of still new to this. There's all kinds of Linux flavors, right? There's Ubuntu, there's Debian, actually Ubuntu, Ubuntu, Ubuntu, whatever. It's based on Debian. I mean there's different, there's all kinds of different flavors of of Linux out there. I decided to go with Debian. Uh, and then there's a a skin. Is it called a skin? I don't know what it's called. Uh you know, you have uh GNOME, you have KDE, you've got some different uh it it it's it it makes your environment look certain ways, I think, depending on and there's some different apps, uh utilities more or less, not apps, I guess, that kind of help you manage your your your operating system and your day-to-day things. Uh I just I just so I'm running I'm running Debian KDE. And uh, anyways, I I think I would have ran into this run into this problem regardless of what I was doing. Anyways, the Wave Mic 3 does not work. So that means, I mean, I so I can't even use never mind the microphone. Of course, I couldn't even use the Wave Link software, use the software for the Stream Deck, all that sort of stuff. So I don't know what I'm going to do. So I've been trying to work through all that. First of all, I was trying to get the Wave Mic 3 working, uh installing some different pieces of software, uh, changing some settings. I just couldn't get it to work. It just it's not working. So I'm running my Audio Technica. What is this? Audio technica, it's a it's the it's the ATR 2100X. It's my old microphone that I bought. Yeah, I don't know. I mean it's it's a great microphone too. I think it sounds good. Yeah. Um anyways, but I've got no filters running. Um running. Yeah, it's it's just it's kind of a weird setup here. I'm trying to while I'm recording an OBS, but I've got some a bunch of different things that I've got to mess with here to get things working right again.

Speaker 3

Um a Linux thing that like plays with all the new tech, like Fedora or something like that.

Speaker

Well, Fedora is a flavor, is it Fedora is a Linux distribution as well. Oh, okay. So it's it's like it's uh so instead of running Debian, I'd be installing Fedora. And they're they're very similar. Um yeah, I mean they they basically it's there's there's high I think there's hundreds of different Linux distributions out there, right? There's just so many. Um Fedora is a big one, yeah. Um Debian's the other big one, and then from Debian, there's a bunch of spin-offs. Uh like there's Ubuntu, there's Linux Mint, they're all flavors of Fedora of Debian, sorry. Yeah. So um, yeah, so I I mean I did a little bit of research. I thought Debian would be the best way to go for my use, my skill and knowledge skills and knowledge. Yeah. Uh I'm learning a lot of command line stuff. Like, I mean, I've been doing a lot of that anyways, with my home lab and my Proxmox systems and all of the all of the apps and containers and stuff that I've got running. Yeah, no, 100%. You know, kind of run my house here and some of the things that we do. Um, anyways, yeah, it's kind of opened up a can of worms and it's going to take some work to get through all of this. So in the meantime, as long as I can uh get a mic working and uh you can see me uh and I can record what we're chatting about here. Uh yeah, we're good. We're all good, yeah.

Speaker 3

So no, that's cool. Um I fucked around Linux when the internet first came out. You know, that's showing our age, you know. Fucking remember the internet, remember dial up modems? Oh wow, yeah. Uh 56.6 modem, baby. Um we use Linux to dial into the World Wide Web. Yeah. And so I had to uh learn some command code because it would go down all the fucking time.

Speaker 2

Yeah.

Speaker 3

Uh so we'd have to put in the command codes to go in. So that's my only playtime with Linux, but uh they have there's a cool, there's like Linux is rad. There's a bunch of like I mean Linux is open soft open yeah, open software. Yep, open source open open source. So there's a bunch of cool apps and stuff and a bunch of cool command codes to help you do different things around the internet, which I'm very interested in, but I just don't have the fucking time. Like I don't even have time to do anything else in my life, letter on learn a new operating system with a bunch of command codes. So good on you for learning that shit. That's that's super cool.

Speaker

Well, well, I think it's I I mean it's interesting for me, number one. And number two is I've got, you know, again, the home lab where I've got all of these different apps and stuff running to you know do things like like Plex and Jellyfin, they're all running on my Proxmox server, which is all uh, you know, that is Debian based. Um so I'm doing a lot of command line stuff. Um yeah, so I'm learning stuff. See, I mean the thing is for me is I I don't read. Like I I mean I can't I can read. It's not like I don't, it's not like I can't read. It's uh I don't read. Like I choose not to read books and and stuff like that. Same way. Yeah, I read stuff on the internet. I learn stuff, you know, again, and messing around with all of this, especially when it comes to the command line stuff. Like you have to be, it's all it's all, you know, there's lowercase, there's uppercase. It's not like Windows that's a little more forgiving, right? You can use uppercase, lowercase when you, you know, uh when you do your directory path and all that sort of stuff. Linux is very, yeah, it does it's all character based, it has to be certain characters, all the punctuation has to be right, there can be no spaces or or you know, stuff like that. And uh I I mean I so in that way I think I'm I'm I'm using my brain, right? I'm using uh I'm still thinking, I'm still trying to solve problems. I'm uh that's great. Uh you know, I'm still learning. So so it's not a you know, if I didn't do any of that, then maybe and I didn't do any puzzles or anything challenging and just sat around and watched TV all day or something like that, then it'd be a bit of a problem. But hopefully uh the the old uh Alzheimer's isn't gonna kick in too soon because of some of what I'm doing. The old cranium's getting a workout still. It is, it is. I make sure of that.

Speaker 3

That's what counts. Yeah, no, that's good, Anya. That's uh it's a cool operating system, it's cool to use, and uh I'm stoked that someone knows how to fucking use it. Uh one of my good buddies, Ron, he's always fucking around Linux for his home software and servers and all that fun stuff. He's like, you should adapt to it. I'm like, it's too much work, bro. It's not enough time in the day.

Speaker

So yeah, it's it's a little bit to learn, you know, especially if you're not um you know, but see the thing is you can you can run Debian, Ubuntu, whatever Linux Mint out of the box. It looks like Windows, you can do your regular stuff. You don't need to do the command line stuff with a lot of it, right? And that's and that's what and that's what a lot of people maybe don't understand. You don't need to be you don't need to be very technical in order to use these operating systems. In order to wait to get away from Microsoft and all of their bullshit and tracking and ads and and all that sort of stuff, um you know it's it is very easy to jump to Linux. Yeah. You know, a lot of older people even find Linux easier to use than Windows. Um yes, it means doing it means sometimes it looks might look a little bit different, or you might have to click in a different place to do something. You know, maybe you're used to doing it a certain way and you've got to do it just a little bit different. But um but but it's it's in that way, it's uh like like uh you know what? If my mom was a little bit younger, like she uses a computer, uh she's been using Windows now for quite a few years. She's used to it. She I think she would at this point, you know, with everything going on, she would have a probably a hard time just because she, you know, you at a certain point you just people don't like change, right? So it'd be a little difficult for me to to move. As much as I would like to get her off of Windows and you know, um you know, I have tried to do little things so that you know her footprint, her digital footprint is kind of reduced a little bit. Uh that next step would be going to Linux. But at this point, yeah, I'm not gonna uh it'd be too much for her at this point. So I'm not gonna open that can of worms for her. It's bad enough. I gotta deal with it myself, I guess, in some ways. Because that's the thing, you know what? I know if if I do that for her, it means that whenever she has a problem, as it happens now, whenever she has a problem, she's on the phone with me right away. Yeah. She'd be on the phone with me 24 hours, 24-7, I think, uh, because of her maybe Linux questions, not necessarily issues, but questions about different things and how to do things and stuff like that.

Speaker 3

So you would have to have a 24-hour FaceTime just running.

Speaker

Yeah, yeah, for sure. She would uh push a button and that would give me a jolt or something like that to to get out of bed and and get to my computer so that I can connect and find out what the hell is going on on her side. Yeah, fuck.

Speaker 3

It's uh but I mean maybe it'll it'll really it'll test your patience as you get older.

Speaker

Oh it it does. And you know, yeah, in some ways, yeah, it does, it does for sure. And it's and it's and it's trying to remain patient and because I want to help her, right? Yeah. So it's um, you know, and it's understanding that she's not technical. Uh even some simple things uh like yesterday, for example, she calls me up. She was really frustrated yesterday too. She she uh she was trying to print off this uh she's trying to do an Amazon return. So she's uh and it's not like it is here in the city where if you have a return, you don't even need to print anything. You don't even need to box up your Amazon's your your your product here. You take it to they they send you a a QR code on your phone or you know to to your account and you go to well in my case, what is it, Staples or whatever it is, just down the street. I go to them and say Amazon return. They scan my code and that's it. You know, simple, right? I don't have to box it, I don't have to print out anything, I don't I don't need to do anything. So for her living in a smaller town or a smaller center, you know, they don't have that sort of stuff. Uh so she's gotta do the she's gotta box it up and she's gotta print off the the return label and all that stuff. So uh yeah, she was having a problem yesterday with printing of off that label. And I don't know, she she yeah, she was she was having a tough time. Uh she called finally decided to call me up because she doesn't want to bother me all the time and whatever. Again, I don't mind helping. Of course. Uh all it was was a setting for her printer uh that I had to change and away she goes, right? So really, really simple for her, not so simple. I I get that. So, you know, these things happen. And uh anyways, that's that's kind of what I what I have to deal with sometimes. Is sometimes it's really simple things, but sometimes it's things that even I can't figure out without you know spending a little bit more time, right?

Speaker 3

So did you tell her to unplug it and plug it back in again?

Speaker

I I in this case it wouldn't have helped, but yes, I have done that before. Yes, you know, especially you know the keyboard or the mouse or something like that, you know. Yeah, you gotta sometimes you just or just restart, right? Restart, give it a restart. Sometimes it's true, it it does fix a lot of problems. So um, yeah, it's a lot of times that's the first time thing I've said. Have you restarted yet? Oh man, I remember uh O'Neill used to call me at fucking 3:30.

Speaker 3

My printer's not working. I'm like, fuck, send it to yourself at work, bro. I'm driving.

Speaker

Oh man. Yeah, so uh, but yeah, yeah, again, it's it's something that I enjoy for the most part. Even I get frustrated though, like it's like, oh man, I just can't. I I spend uh hours on something, it's like I can't figure this out, man. I'm like, what am I doing wrong? Or what's what what's what have I missed? And it's uh sometimes I find out and I'm just fucking shaking my head. I'm just like I should have known this. There are other times where you know, I again I'm learning stuff, and it's yeah, and it's and it and in those cases it's fun to finally figure things out and get things working again. It's like, oh wow, that's and this this is cool, and then you know, you see it working, and it's like, oh wow, I'm glad I did that, you know, and I'm glad I was able to work through it. And so anyway, yeah, computers. It's uh it's you know, we we depend on them so much nowadays, and and I guess that's the hardest part is you know, I'm fucking around with stuff at home that is probably more for my enjoyment, you know, my home lab and stuff like that. This is not life or death stuff, but you know, when you're uh trying to pay something online or when you're at a store and you know something happens with their their card system, their payment system or whatever, or your credit card, or let's like, you know, it's it's or your your phone stops working for some reason or whatever. It's things like that where that you know that are more important. When those mess up, it that's when it gets really frustrating. Yeah. And you can't do anything about it sometimes. So anyway.

Speaker 3

Well, did you try turning it off and turning it back on again? Ah, what else is happening from computers to Super Bowl? Did you watch the Super Bowl last week?

Speaker

Yeah, I did care. I did, I did. Again, as everybody knows, as you know, I'm not a big football fan. I don't spend time watching football really at all during the season because I'm in a in a fantasy pool, I pay attention to to what's happening. Yeah. And you know, I follow the players, and of course, the pool um, you know, helps me kind of stay on top of things a little bit, but you know, I don't have a favorite team. Uh, but I did watch the game. Uh it was a pretty slow game there at the beginning. Yeah, it was. Really slow. And then of course, well, defense was was really huge for for both teams there at the beginning. Um Seattle was the better team throughout. I think uh you know I and I'm kind of glad they won. I wanted Seattle to win back in was it 2015 when they met in the Super Bowl? Seattle and uh and New England, I think so. And and of course Tom Brady was playing for New New England. Was he still with New England at that time? Yeah, he was. Of course they did. Uh yeah, so yeah, we just watched it from home here. Uh yeah, it was entertaining.

Speaker 3

Oh yeah, no, fuck it. It was uh happy. I mean, that's that's the team I cheer for because they're closest to us anyways. Um and it was it was I mean, the defense they shut them down. And that's it. Was it slow? Was it boring a shit game? Yes, but the better like the better team won because they just kicked their ass. So what do you think of the half? Time show, did you stick around for that? Did you turn it off?

Speaker

No, we did watch. Um, I'm I'm not I'm not a bad bunny guy. Yeah. I'm not a fan of the music. You? I know. Yeah, exactly. That's a surprise, I know, but um I I mean I mean listen, especially this is especially true after hearing some of the comments from from you know who. Um you know, it's it's pretty it's it's pretty sad. I mean, here he is an American citizen, and and just because he's not singing in English and and all this sort of bullshit, you know, they're they're calling him down. I mean they're making it worse. It's not just calling him down, they're basically calling down anybody who doesn't speak English and or anybody who's who's not white, and and really that's that's what it's about here. And uh that's that's the way Trump and his losers are carrying on, right? And it's just um yeah, it's just really sad. So so when you hear all that stuff, of course, it it makes you appreciate a little bit more about even if you don't like the music, you know, you can appreciate a little bit more about what he's doing and how he's celebrating his culture and you know his uh where he's from, you know, yeah, and and and and that part I you know again I do I do respect all that, right? Even if I don't like the music. So um yeah, I don't know if you're a bad bunny fan. I think you are.

Speaker 3

I don't know if you are, but I didn't really know who he was till the super. I know kind of what he did, like I I I'll say like I have no idea what he was saying, however, I do know that he was sticking out for Puerto Rico.

Speaker

Oh, exactly, yes.

Speaker 3

You know what I mean? And because of that, it was awesome, and he was able to do his thing. I just wish they put subtitles on it so you can actually understand what he was saying for us people who don't speak the natives native tongue, you know what I mean? But like um without I mean you had the the Lady Gaga cameo, whatever it was, and you had Ricky Martin come and do his thing, but yeah for the special guests. But I mean it was for what it was ten minutes of him sticking up for his country, applaud him for that, especially what he was going through because you know, whatever it was when he first got announced, I would believe the fucking cheetah was saying he'd have him all deported or whatever the hell he was saying when uh it first got announced. But I'm happy that you know he was able to get up there and do his thing. So that's that's all I'll say about that. I mean, it was entertaining, you know. It was in San Francisco. I would have loved the Metallica to come out and do some things, but Green Day did do that pre-game uh show beforehand, and they played American Idiot and did their Trump first and all that fun stuff, so that was entertaining to watch.

Speaker

Yeah, I did what I did see that at the beginning too. So that was cool. Again, I'm not a huge Green Day fan either, but but obviously they are uh very political. Uh obviously they're not afraid to to dump on Trump and or anything else going on in the in the world these days that's uh yeah, you know, that is fascist um or racist or or what you know, whatever it is, and unfortunately there's a lot of that happening. Um yeah, so so that that was that was kind of cool. And you know, again, you you're you're talking you you know, people even even during the Olympics here now, and maybe we'll get to the Olympics in in a little bit, but you know, you're you're talking about this like JD Vance is over there, and of course people were booing him when he got introduced and all this sort of stuff. And then he's listening to some of the American athletes who are who are commenting about uh, you know, they're not very happy about what some of the stuff that's going on. And and and JD Vance of all people comes on and says, Well, you know, you're an American citizen, you're over here representing your countr uh your country, you should just shut the fuck up and and just just you know, do your sport, do your thing, and forget about everything else that's going on and just appreciate that you're able to be over here. It's like fuck off, asshole. Yeah, it's like what an arrogant ass, man. I just that you know he he's learning from from the best or or the worst, however you want to put it. I I guess it depends on what position you're in, but uh you know he's probably going to be the Republican representative for the next uh president. He you know, he's you know and and it's he's just gonna be he's it's not gonna be any better, right? No. He he because he's just as much of an asshole. And uh so you know, so it's stuff like that. People are saying, well, musicians and athletes, well, you know, you shouldn't you shouldn't sing about you know, just just sing and enjoy yourself and write songs, write goofy, shitty songs, whatever, and you shouldn't be bringing politics in it. Well, you're writing songs about your life, about who you are, about what's going on around you. I mean, that's what music has always been. Yeah, right? And sure, sappy, shitty songs out there about uh about white picket fences and you know, having a family and five kids and whatever, but you know, still you're you're writing about your life and singing about your life. It's like what what are you supposed to what what am I supposed to write about? You know, especially when you've got all this bullshit going on. Yeah, what do you expect? You're gonna fucking hear about it, man. So exactly. So yeah, so you know, and and athletes are people too. It's just like sure, they have a sport and they go out and they whether it's the Olympics or a professional sport where you're getting paid, it doesn't matter. You're still a person, you're still a citizen of this particular country, or you are somehow affected uh by what is going on in the world. So why not? You there's nothing wrong with speaking up about it. Yeah. So anyway. Um where were we? I can't remember. Uh are you watching halftime, pre-show? Whatever. Well, I don't know where we're going. Uh are you watching the Olympics? Yeah, let's stick with the Olympics. Uh I don't know why I've got the TV on still from before. I was watching hockey. Uh Team Canada men's the men's team played earlier. They killed uh they killed France. What was it, 10 to 2? Um yeah, so I'm watching mostly hockey, uh, mostly men's hockey. Um, I've watched a little bit of the women's hockey. I know they're they're in the semifinals now, starting. I think they play tomorrow. I think the semi-start. Uh, anyways, mostly hockey, a little bit of speed skating. Um, I don't know if that anything else really interests me, though, you know. I was gonna say I've left the TV on now and I've got fucking figure skating on. So uh, anyways. The American team plays, men's American team plays at 1210, I think, here Pacific time. So I'll probably switch over and catch that in the background as we're chatting here. But that's about it. I don't know. How about you? Are you paying attention? Do you look at it? Just the highlights.

Speaker 3

There is that um this the ski accidents. Um yeah. The lady, I forgot, I forget her name, high profile skier.

Speaker 1

Yeah, yeah.

Speaker 3

Um, she had a major crash. She came back from Versity and had another crash, so she's all sorts of fucked up. Did you see the French guy get the pulled of the balls?

Speaker

Oh, I know which he's I mean he he didn't fall down. No, um but he like a man. He couldn't he couldn't continue. Um and I I just oh fuck it.

Speaker 3

Oh, it does. It does. Okay, moving on. I think Canada currently has uh nine medals.

Speaker

I think they got uh they got one gold and threes in silver yesterday, moguls, is that what it was?

Speaker 3

Yeah, his first attempted Olympics, he won the uh downhill mogul, whatever it was, downhill mogul still slalom skiing or yeah, whatever it was.

Speaker

Uh King's Burning was his last name.

Speaker 3

Yeah, King Yeah, awesome. Good work, guy. Yeah, I never heard of him before ever, but uh then uh speed skater won in bronze last week or little yesterday, two days ago. But yeah, so we have currently have nine medals, which is pretty good. One gold, three silver, and five bronze.

Speaker

So yeah. So I think we're sitting in 11th place overall. Um Norway is up top, I know that. Yeah, you you watch some of the Norwegians and uh uh yeah, uh well, I guess Norway's perfect for the Winter Olympics. Uh what is see see these Scandinavian countries do always typically do pretty well. Um but what is the population of Norway compared to Canada? We're a much bigger country, but I don't I think and we probably our population's probably bigger too, so but um yeah, they've they probably have nothing better to do uh there. Maybe that's not a fair thing to say, but uh but yeah, they're certainly very good, they're very talented, that's for sure.

Speaker 3

So Canada has a significantly larger population than Norway, roughly with 41.3 million compared to Norway's 5.6 million. Oh, yeah. Wow, that's a huge difference. That's a lot. So Norway breeds them for the Olympics, and Canada just goes, uh, we'll try. And yeah, we're good to go that way.

Speaker

Yeah, for sure. So uh, anyways, um yeah, it's been it's been enjoyable. It's you know, it's when I watch the hockey and stuff, it's it's like fuck, it'd be fun to be there, man. It would just be cool to go over to Europe. I mean, I mean, we had the Olympics here, right? Yeah, I didn't take in any events here. Uh I was also in Calgary during the 1988 Winter Olympics, so yeah, there you go. So I'm old. Uh we did go to a hockey game there. I remember that, uh, but I I do forget who was playing. I think it was Switzerland, Germany. It was it was not, you know, the the uh elimination round, it was it was the round robin uh one of the round robin games kind of at the beginning. So um I was a paramedic at that time, so I had some access to the by uh the Nordic events which were in Canmore. Um sadly we you know I had to athletes got injured, so I had to go pick them up and treat them and care for them. Oh wow. Um but it was just it was so it was kind of it was cool being around that uh just being a little bit closer to everything at that time, right? So um but to to to go over to Europe where fans overall just seem to be a little bit more I don't know if they're more crazy, they're more fanatic, they're I don't know, it would just be a different environment, I think, to go over there and to to to be part of it and watching some of these hockey games, uh like even the even the Canada France game this morning, like fuck, that would have been so much fun to be there. No, that's yeah, no, I think that's cool.

Speaker 3

Um yeah, yeah. Um apparently uh this happens at every Olympics, but everyone's fucking at the Olympics. They run out of domes at the Olympics. It happened here, it's happening now. Uh did you notice that happening in '88? Where was everyone fucking in the '88? What sorry, what do you mean? What so they're running out of the condoms? Oh, they're running out of views everywhere. Okay, yeah. So condoms, domes, whatever. Yeah, they're running out of condoms everywhere.

Speaker

That's funny. They just show up and fuck around and win some gold and fuck off. Like, well, didn't didn't you see like I don't know if that happened in in 1988? Uh it I think we've heard about this happening before, though. Did it happen in Vancouver in 2018? It happened in Vancouver.

Speaker 3

It ran out in two days. The free condoms ran out in two days.

Speaker

That's crazy. But didn't this happen uh a couple days ago? There was a was it uh a Norwegian athlete who cheated on his girlfriend uh who's still back home or something like that. And he admitted it on the air or something like that. He did, yeah. He fucked that up. What are you doing, asshole?

Speaker 3

Cheating, like you're idiots, and then if and then the comments were awesome because like go to a Coldplay concert and all the stuff. Like yeah, he was getting roasted. I think he went home.

Speaker

I think he dropped out. Did he? Okay. I I I just read that he regretted it, obviously. Uh, I didn't I didn't hear any more about it, whether he went home or what, but uh yeah. I don't know. It's that's crazy. It's um yeah, I don't know. I mean, sure you're there to have to have fun and and and and meet other people and enjoy yourself, right? It's a it's a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Uh, other athletes uh are a little bit luckier and they get to go more than once. Like there's some athletes who are in to their third and fourth and maybe even fifth Olympics, I don't know, along the way, maybe including Summer Olympics, it happens, but but but still, your your your main focus is to represent your country and to you know try the best you can at least, and that's all we can ask for. Yeah. Uh and again, have fun. But by any come on, it's like it's it's you're not there to shag up and uh and and yeah, party and and stuff. So I don't know. You're supposed to win medals, yeah. Again, run them out with your dick in your hand. Yeah, this is coming from an old man now, but I mean, who knows? Those damn kids. Maybe I would have been the same way. I don't know.

Speaker 3

Oh man. Yeah, pretty funny though. No, it's whatever. Good good for 'em. Good for him. Yeah. And and since we're talking about sports, uh sports cast with the old men. Uh, are you do you care about FIFA? FIFA coming to Vancouver in the summertime, June-ish. I don't.

Speaker

I don't. Yeah, there's there's seven games in Vancouver um through from June through till the beginning of July at some point. And uh, so yeah, I I know you sent uh something about that, you know, about uh just like accommodation and stuff, and but but in general, uh it's gonna be a busy place. Lots of people coming in. Um I'm not uh I don't care. I don't care. I'm not going to any games, I'm not gonna spend any money on it. Yeah. Um in fact, in fact, we've casually discussed leaving town for a couple weeks just to get away. I doubt it's gonna happen. I'm not sure where we'd go, but uh I yeah, I'd I'd rather not be here because it'll be very busy. Like it's busy enough in the summertime here now, especially after COVID. The city is just crazy, and now it's gonna be even worse with the with those games going on. So um, I don't know. You know, you know, they're talking about yes, it's a good influx of money, like it means jobs for people, it means money for businesses and all that sort of. I mean, I get I get all that, especially it's trying times, but you know, there's negatives that go along with it too. Uh it does affect all of us, you know, yeah positively and negatively, you know, and and the people like the you know what the biggest thing for me is um that many people coming in from all over the world on top of the regular tourists who come here. Like, think of the health healthcare system. For me, that's for me that's the biggest thing. How is it going to affect our healthcare system? And what kind of diseases are going to crop up and illnesses are going to crop crop up because of all those people? Yep. You know, measles is already a really big problem. Well, COVID's still around. COVID's still around, you know, there's so there is still lots of stuff going on here, and so how is that going to impact everybody here and the healthcare system when people get sick?

unknown

Yeah.

Speaker

Because people will get sick.

Speaker 3

Yeah, no, a hundred percent. And I think that um well, I think we're gonna have even more of an influx because no one's traveling to the states right now. Exactly.

Speaker

Yeah, I mean I mean, yes, there's games down there. Like, like it's there's I you know what I was looking at all of the different cities who are hosting games. And it's like it's like what is there like two or there are two dozen cities across in North America that are hosting games? It looks like it. Like there's games in Mexico, there's games in the United States, uh, Toronto and Vancouver are the only cities in Canada that are hosting games, but still it's like this is spread out all across North America. Well, and again, which is really cool. I mean, it's a it's it's a big thing, it's a big event, and there's more teams this year compared to past uh World Cups. Uh, because there used to be what, 32, now there's 48, is that right? I think something like that. Anyway, so of course there's more games, they have to have more facilities, more cities are involved, and whatever. So I get all that, but yeah, it's uh it's a big deal, but but yeah, I just I couldn't believe all of the cities uh that are hosting events and so um so yeah, but but it's so so again king Vancouver's not the only one who's who's going through this yeah, this problem. And um yeah, we'll we'll have to see we'll have to see what happens. But but as far as accommodation goes, that that link you said, like I just I I hate it when see see we talk about money and you know how much money people are gonna make, but but again, it's you know, sure the restaurants, the stores and all that are going to do better because of the influx of people. Yeah, they have to but but when uh when a hotel or even an Airbnb charges more money during that time just because they can, you know, it's not they're they're not gonna have a problem renting their place. No. But for whatever reason, they double the price or triple the price just because they can.

Speaker 3

And I hate that. Well, that happens everywhere. That's not just us, but that's if major events are happening. Like I remember for sure.

Speaker

Concerts, uh, major events, anything, anything else. I mean, even the World Cup tickets, you know, people are gonna buy a ticket and scalpers are gonna sell them for triple the price, whatever it is. So it's everything. But uh so that's why I hate it when people say, Oh, well, look at all the money it's gonna bring into Vancouver. Well, I'm not gonna get any of that fucking money. No, you're not gonna get any of that money. So fuck, who cares? I don't care. I'd rather not it not happen, to be honest with you. I really wouldn't. I don't care.

Speaker 3

So no, I I'm with I'm is it cool? Yes, but should it not be like is it cool for a week? Yeah, maybe do it for a week. I mean, it's it's gonna become a shit show. Yeah, um, working in the transportation industry, everything's fucked. So apparently they're doing like uh here in Vancouver, the arenas are next to a transit stop called Stadium. Yeah, uh but apparently they're closing stadium down and using the stop beforehand, which is Main Street, and that's gonna be the big hub because they're closing stadium down, not fully, but they're closing two of the exits, so they're just exiting out on a Kiefer Street there. Wow, and the big hub, they want you to walk through, I call it propaganda alley. So everything on Main Street is gonna be like walking toward BC Place, is gonna be like like um, like almost like a shopping district, like they're gonna set up temporary like tents and wow, I never heard about that stores and stuff. Yeah, so that's the big plan for the soccer happening, but so it's gonna be a shit show downtown, so you you can't even get downtown, it's gonna be hard to leave the core. Um, so yeah, anyone working down there for the next well, in the month, it's it's gonna be it's gonna be a challenge for them for sure.

Speaker

Wow, yeah, that's crazy. I never heard that, you know, and and then and and then on top of all that, which is something we're probably gonna talk about a little bit later too, is the um is the surveillance. Oh, yeah. You know, because they have already talked about, and maybe some of it is already in place. Uh they have talked about bringing in more cameras um for surveillance and to monitor people. And um sure they see see here's here, and here's the problem I have. They always say this. Oh, yeah, we're gonna add all these cameras and stuff, and we're gonna be doing all this recording and you know, capturing of footage and whatever, but as soon as it's over, the recordings are gone, the cameras are gone. You know what? I'll believe that when I see it. It's just it's once that stuff is in place, they aren't gonna take it down. You know, and that means just more surveillance for us everyday people who live here. You know, forget about the tourists and visitors and all that sort of stuff, which are the biggest reason, you know, all of this influx of people, whether you live here or not, I guess it's uh you know, that's the reason for the extra security and surveillance and policing and all that sort of stuff. But that stuff's gonna probably still be here. I mean, uh surveillance is just getting worse and worse, and it's just like you know, I um everywhere you everywhere you look nowadays, government and um you know, these organizations are trying to do things to to track us and follow us and monitor us. I mean, sure you want it to be safe for people. But I mean there comes a time when too much surveillance is not a good thing.

Speaker 3

No, I agree with that. The infrastructure and stuff, you need to set all the surveillance up, they're not gonna take it down.

Speaker

Exactly.

Speaker 3

Yeah. So like it's gonna be it's gonna be nuts. And um this comes off the heels of that uh ring commercial. So the ring uh so it was played during the Super Bowl. They spent so not only did it play during the Super Bowl, getting the airtime to run a 30-second commercial in the Super Bowl, which is the most watched program or television live sporting event of the year every year. It always has been, has been for many years. But to run the ad, so the ad was basically uh ring camera was running uh they partnered with some company to find your pets. So if you lost a pet, you would upload a photo of your pet to a server. The server would then dis distribute it to all the ring cameras to Turn them on and actively look for your pet as your pet was running around the street. And then someone like us goes, Well, you can use that for humans. And then everyone fucking lost a shit. Some of the comments about it was hilarious. And the stuff we've been talking about for two, three years. Uh, so watching that unfold in real time because we've been talking about it, and then people learning about it, and then it actually was actually was kind of a good thing because now people who care about what's going on and their privacy and how easy it is to be tracked with some of these cameras kicking around, and as basic as as simple as a ring camera was to like arguably just kind of watch your home and see what was going on. No, they can actually flip it around and turn it around. So it was cool to see the people kind of coming together, like, although this is probably gonna be a bad thing. So they since have ended their uh deal and uh are moving on with their lives, but uh you can't fix that backlash. Now people have that in the back of their minds, which I think is a good thing.

Speaker

Yeah, yeah, it is. So but here's the funny thing, or ironic thing, I guess, is that these ring cameras and there's another company or a manufacturer out there as well. I forget the name of it, it's mentioned in there. Um they have been able to do this uh all along, anyways. Yeah, like since day one. Yeah, what's that?

Speaker 3

Sorry? Yeah, since pretty much launched, they've been able to do that.

Speaker

And and and they've they police uh forces have asked the owners of these ring cameras to consent. I mean, that's that's all part of it. You would have to consent in order for this to happen. At least that's what they say. I don't know if I believe believe that because let me finish, I guess. Uh they have, you know, if you have a ring camera and if you live in a certain area, you know, you can be uh it can be requested or asked by a police force to use your camera as part of your community surveillance, I guess, or community monitoring. And then that way police can use your footage if something should happen, right? Um so so they've been they've been sort of able to do this with the ring cameras all along. But now that's like you said, ring has done this and they've twisted it a different way, in that you know, I'm sure they've used AI before and all this stuff, but now this specific commercial has said we will use AI to help find your pet. And we'll we will use the community of ring ring cameras and we'll we'll help bring your pet home. Uh I guess so. Is it is it involving your pets at this point that people have finally clued in that this is not a good thing? Whatever it is, yeah, I agree. It's it's good too that people are finally starting to learn and understand what some of this stuff is doing, and uh and it's not a good thing, right? Yeah, so it's good to see event somehow eventually, and again it backfired on ring. Uh, anyways, it's good to see see that people are are understanding what's happening with all of this technology now and all of this AI. AI is still I I st I still don't I st I mean it's I know what I was gonna say, I don't know what to think of it. I know what I think of it, and it scares the hell out of me still. It really does. I I am still like part of my job is going to be learning how to use AI, you know, to certain degrees, like uh or at least investigating whether it'll be a benefit to some of the work I do, right? Like, okay, how can we how can we create videos using AI if necessary, if it we determine it's helpful? How can we do things that will, in my case at least, be good for training? So how can we how can we create these tools or this these media these movies or whatever it might be can we do this stuff that it'll benefit the organization, you know? So onboarding new staff, you know, um training so training videos, maybe that were created using AI, all that sort of stuff. And I've been so reluctant to to to jump into any of this stuff. I just it's so it's so intrusive, it's so it's so scary. And um uh where am I going with this? Uh what am I saying? Oh uh so I mean everybody not everybody, a lot of people think that it's it's gonna uh die. Like eventually, as as big as it is and as and as beneficial as it could be or it might be in some ways, uh right now people are thinking saying that it's gonna die. And I don't know if I believe that. No way. There's too much money involved in it at this point, and I think there's a lot of people making the decisions that feel it's uh more of a benefit than it is a detriment, which in their minds it might be true because it's making them money, where in the everyday Joe it's we may not feel that way. So uh yeah, I don't know. It's yeah, it's pretty pretty scary. But anyways, it's good to see that Ring has kind of uh learned a lesson maybe the hard way for them. Yeah, that's that's it's good that people are trying or at least finally understanding what some of this can do or what some of it's capable of doing and how bad it can be.

Speaker 3

See, what's interesting is that look a lot like AI has been used a lot, um, and we don't even know we were using it. Like when you would call like a customer support for your account, for your TELAS account, your SHA account, your ATT account, whatever you would do, you would call and you would follow voice prompts and you would talk into what do you need? Oh, I need to change my bill. Okay, it would record your voice and go, and then you'd start chatting with an agent, and then the agent eventually, well, whenever you would get to a fucking agent, you would talk to the agent, oh, you've been verified by AI, and so you it is you talking. So it's been analyzing our voices for years upon years. Now it's just kind of coming into our mainstream. Like there's a lot of jobs that are being affected, like administrative stuff is being affected, customer service stuff is being affected, like media and creative roles are being affected. Like, like I said, like me and you did all the videos for Sea Fox and stuff, but now you're gonna be able to use AI to do videos and stuff like that. It fucking blows your mind. Like finance stuff and analysis stuff is being affected.

Speaker

Well, healthcare is becoming really big too.

Speaker 3

Yeah, because during CES, which is the consumer electronics show, they were showing robots don't get tired, so they have autonomous arms, you know, operating on someone. And to be honest with you, would you have an like a robot that's trained in heart specialists, like a heart specialty, like to replace a core, like your you know, your a valve, or would you have a like a life doctor do it? Yeah, AI doesn't make mistakes, they can analyze way quicker than a human can, which is you know, not a bad thing, but like I'd rather have an opera like a doctor like oversee what the AI is doing and watch the AI do it, because it like doesn't move, its hands don't get shaky, it doesn't get tired, it it can just do it in you know lightning fast. You know, that's just an example of it, like technology and coding. Like me and you could probably just like I don't know if you used AI to design our kick-ass new webpage, which is the old men.ca, but you know, that's that can get done, it can help you out with lines of code. Um, you know, retail and self-checkouts have been doing that as well. Like uh with the uh automated your um self-checkouts, you know, that's I don't know, that has to have something to do with AI. Um, you know, so all this stuff is affecting and being incorporated to our real life. The fact that we can do this shit on our phone is also kind of a scary thing. Like I use it, I use it more than I should. I use it to help me write emails, I use it to help me create stupid logos. Like, I just I'm kind of fucking with it. Um, I know we've been both playing with some of it. Uh, I find I still find Chat GPT the best. Other ones, Grok and Grok doesn't really work very well and whatever else. Um plexteria, I fucked around a little bit, but yeah. This stuff is scary, man. Like it's it's it's stealing our jobs.

Speaker

Well, the stuff so yeah, that's the other thing. I mean, AI does make mistakes. You said AI doesn't make mistakes, but it does make mistakes. Number one, and number two is you're right, it it costs jobs. Wasn't there a layoff somewhere? I just read this the other day. I mean, there was a layoff coming up or just happened maybe where they specifically said that you know jobs are being eliminated due to AI. Yeah, you know, so um yeah, so it it it it happens, uh, and it's just gonna get worse. Uh and again, some people say it AI is gonna fall out, but sir, but I don't know if I believe that. Um, what was I gonna say? Yeah, so I mean, I so I haven't done any of that. So, like I haven't done anything to write emails for me. I rarely use it on the phone. In fact, I I having an Android phone, of course, it comes with Gemini, which is Google's uh assistants now. It's taken over from Google Assistant, it's now Gemini, but that's their AI platform. Uh, I don't know what's what it's based on. Uh at work we use uh Gemini, just because Gemini is part of the Microsoft platform. Yeah, but we're a Microsoft house, obviously. All of our licenses and and everything are all Microsoft, so that's why we uh are we have a policy an AI policy now. So that I mean that's the other scary thing, is all of these organizations have to develop AI policies for how their employees can use AI and stuff like that. And I mean we are a very there's there's a couple things with our organization that that are that are make it a little bit more sensitive, I guess. Number one is we we you know we deal with clients, uh specifically indigenous clients, so we have to be very careful when uh using AI to create any content. Uh number what number one, the biggest thing is to not use AI to create any graphical content like photos and stuff like that. That's a huge no-no. That that's just in if somebody is doing that, that's pretty sad. Um number two is uh or I guess that was number two. So number one is just your you know your your clients and who they are, but number two is they are indigenous. So so um you know, and and being even though we're a not-for-profit, we are still governed by um you know the privacy uh laws here in Canada. Um because specifically we we are funded by the Canadian government, but even though we're a not-for-profit. But we we still when it comes to privacy and A tip, like the Access to Information Act and all that sort of stuff, we are still susceptible to to those requests. And uh you know, so that's why we have to be extra careful. Like if if we are creating this content, that becomes a tipable, which means that anybody can make a request to access that content. Yeah. So that's why we have to be yeah, really, really careful about all that stuff. So uh but again, it's it's another reason why it's really scary. Like it's you know, you have to think about really what you're doing. And is it is it worth it? Is it does it really benefit you by using this stuff, by using these tools? And I don't know, that's where I still question whether it's not you know, whether it's valuable or not.

Speaker 3

Yeah, that's you know, and that's the that's the ample word. It should be a tool to assist us, not take over shit.

Speaker

And and and that's the problem, that's another problem in in in general in in the world today is that so many people are depending on it now so much to do their things, again, to to create their letters or write their emails or all that sort of stuff, where people just aren't using their fucking brains anymore, right? Yes, it's it's and and I mean I think things were already bad enough where people were lazy or expecting others to do their work for them or do certain things for them. Well, now you've got AI to take care of all this other stuff, and I mean like what is people aren't learning anything anymore. You know, they've got these tools or other people to do their work for them, and that's that's not right.

Speaker 3

Yeah, like we talked about you gotta challenge your mind, you gotta keep your mind going. Otherwise you're gonna slow down and not do anything.

Speaker

Yeah, for sure. Fuck. So anyway, um yeah, tech f technology again is it's really cool, but uh sometimes it's developing at too quick of a rate here. We where we don't you know we don't know the outcomes of what all of this is or what effects, long-term effects this is all going to have on the world. And uh I don't know. That's yeah, that's pretty scary.

Speaker 3

Skynet, baby, skynet. James Cameron told us about it. He'd sees all. Yeah, really. Oh fuck. Yeah, oh shit. Oh, let's talk about happier things. Um, are do you use a winter jacket? What are you using for a winter jacket? So I'm in the hunt for a winter jacket. It's cold. I always, I mean, I don't know if it's fucking ingrained in me, but I'm always wearing a hoodie, and then when I'm outside, I switch hoodies to a different hoodie, and then I put like a waterproof shell on. Yeah, but do you have a a specific winter jacket for you know sunny weather or rainy weather, or what do you use to keep it going? Because I'm looking at an arteryx jacket right now. The East Funk, any winter jacket isn't cheap, like a waterproof or weather-resistant jacket. They're pretty pricey, but what do you use for a winter jacket whipping around here in Vancouver?

Speaker

Yeah, you're at you know what, you're asking the wrong person. Because I'm I uh I don't dress appropriately. Let me just put it that way. So in other words, in other words, I probably don't dress warm enough. Number two is I probably don't well, I know I don't have a proper winter jacket, I guess. Um I mean, a lot of times I'm wearing a I don't know what it's made out of. It's a fabric, it's a cotton hoodie, I guess, and I've got my jean jacket over top. Um so I wear that when it's a little bit cooler outside. I do have a shell jacket, I don't know who made it, and it certainly wasn't expensive as the one that you were looking at here at Arcteryx. Is that Arcteryx, yeah? Yeah, which will actually it looks really cool. It looks like more, it's more than a shell. It looks like it's insulated and quite warm on its own, isn't it? Yeah, yeah. So I don't have anything. I I I do have a shell, and then again, underneath I put on uh there's you know, whatever it is, uh like a hoodie underneath or something like that. So I seem to be getting away with what I've been doing. You know, I'm still I'm still wearing shorts, man. I mean it was we were out yesterday, it was ended up being a nicer day, but I was wearing shorts. And uh I'm trying to uh uh well I'm not I don't know if I'm trying, I'm not trying to do anything, I guess. Uh I mean I'm comfortable. I I hope I know when it's cold, that's for sure. And maybe it is there there are a couple times where I would have my shorts on and I'm going, man, this is stupid. I should have worn pants today. Um or a bigger jacket or whatever. But um, you know, for the most part, I mean if I if I'm going out and I know I'm gonna be outside for a longer period of time and it's chilly, I will I'll dress better. But if we're going for a walk or whatever, if I'm going across the street to the store or whatever, it's and I'm not going far, then hey, uh I'm fine wearing shorts and a lighter jacket. Maybe it's the the rain doesn't bother me. It's the wind that's more of a problem, obviously. When it's windy, whether it's raining or not, that wind can be cold. So you need a proper jacket for that for sure. The rain doesn't bother me. Yeah. The rain itself does not bother me. So unless it's too cold or that that wind is blowing, but yeah, so um yeah, I'm not the person to ask, but that jacket does look pretty sweet. It's expensive, but it looks pretty sweet.

Speaker 3

Well, there I mean, that's uh like I mean that's kind of a mid-range, it's like 550. There's ones that are for like 11, like 100 bucks from that same place. Oh Teric, they make crazy jackets, like these are for like when you're living in the mountains, kind of thing. But uh but I was looking around like mountain equipment co-op, like I just want a nice jacket for like just to keep warm. I don't know if I'm getting older and colder, but I don't know what the fuck's going on. But like I'm cold, yeah. So I um yeah, I think uh think it's time and I'm you know, I I'm on Reddit quite a bit and I'm checking shit out, but uh you're you unfortunately everyone's looking for the best deal, so you can buy like a cheap $200 fucking jacket, but you kind of get what you pay for, and you know, if you spend a little bit more money, and this works for you know, whatever options or cars or better TVs or phones or whatever the fuck it is. You spend a little more money, you get a little bit more of a product. So, yes, are these jackets expensive? Yes, but hopefully it's kind of a one and done. You can keep it well, not one and done, but hopefully you can keep it for fucking 20 years or something like that.

Speaker

Yeah, that's there's there's some truth to that, or there's a case case for that for sure where you know sometimes it can be worth it to pay a little bit more money. So um yeah, yeah, I don't know. I'm a I'm a pretty simple guy. I I I would have a hard time paying 500 bucks for a jacket, even though, as you said, it's in the long run, maybe it's better for you, maybe it hopefully it lasts longer and it keeps keeps you warm. That's the most important thing. But yeah, I would have a hard time spending that kind of money, that much money. Yeah, I I really would.

Speaker 3

So yeah, it's tough. It's tough.

Speaker

Yeah, yeah, for sure.

Speaker 3

Um, I don't know if you want to get into it, but do you want to chat about the tragedy tragedy in Tumblr Ridge, or do you want to talk about that when it kind of unfolds a little more?

Speaker

Or well, uh I I've been sort of following it. It's uh yeah, it's pretty tragic. I don't I you know, I don't know how much I have to say of it, you know, it about it, but it's it's it's uh it's really sad. No, obviously it's sad it happened, um uh regardless of who was involved. Uh I mean we've got a bunch of things at play. Obviously, first and foremost is the people and specifically the kids that got killed. Yes. Uh that's just I don't I don't know. I don't know what's I don't know why. Yeah, I that's I mean that's the hardest thing. You ask yourself why. And of course, I don't know why. You don't know why. I don't know. Nobody knows why. Even the person who did it probably doesn't know why. Yeah. Um and and of course, when it whenever something like this happens in Canada, you start thinking, well, especially the gun violence. Uh you know, I sure you you sure hope this doesn't become like America, that's for sure. You know, you know, we we comment about America when it happens in schools, especially all the time, and and how how bad it is and how often it happens. Yes. You know, but now we have a a significant crime like this happen in Canada. And it's um yeah, it's just I don't know, it's just where's where where are things going in this world, you know? It's in some ways, obviously things are just getting worse and worse, and that's not good.

Speaker 3

Yeah. So it's tough. Um and like everyone's like trying to change the narrative and stuff on it, and I'm just like, well, I don't know if you can. Like, what's the like there's no no fix to this harsher gun laws or or whatever it's gonna be. Like I I still don't even know what type of uh gun the the person used.

Speaker

Well I yeah, I don't either. And and but the thing is and again, uh sure I know about the story, but I haven't been following everything. So I'm asking questions here too, and um because I don't again, because I don't know. But apparently the cops were called to this residence I don't know how many times in the past two years for for various things. Yes. Uh including guns. So what happened? I and again I don't know, but but what happened? Did they what what was going on that police were called? What uh and what happened to those guns that were uh being used or or not being used, but what what what happened to them at that time? Like did they those did those weapons get confiscated? Like I I mean how were they obtained? Did they get confiscated and that sort of thing, right? And if those but if if they didn't and those same guns were used in this crime, like that's so there's something wrong here. Yeah, right. Um you know, so that that I mean that's probably the biggest question I have. And again, maybe I don't maybe that answer's out there, I don't know. Um you know, but that's the biggest thing. Was there did did somebody do something wrong that allowed this person to keep their weapons, then that's that's terrible. Um and if they did conf confiscate any weapons at that time, well, how was this person able to obtain other weapons to use this time? Exactly. Um and and of course we may not know the answer. to that and of course people find ways to make things happen regardless of what restrictions they may have. Um so yeah it's just tragic all around man it's uh it's pretty bad and you know and I guess the other thing is oh well of course the guns and and the mental health thing. Obviously yeah there is a there is a mental health issue here at play among other things. And um you know was that person willing to get help? I don't know. Um you know so yeah obviously unfortunately it kind of led to what what it did.

Speaker 3

Yeah we don't know again that that's I mean there's still so much unknown about it. It happened four days ago here we don't and I I've been kind of trying to follow it but there's still a lot of information missing so yeah I don't know if they're I don't know if they're hiding it from us. I mean I did it's like a 14 hour drive from Vancouver to Tumblr Ridge British Columbia here but I can't I can't find any other information than the stuff we just kind of chatted about. So I don't know if they're muting it.

Speaker

I don't know if it's past its news cycle and stuff already I have no idea but it's uh well uh I'm sure cops are keeping things under wraps so as they're carrying on their investigation uh that's probably the biggest reason why we don't any know any more than that I would guess yeah fuck I don't so yeah it's just too it's just too bad. It's sad regardless of who's involved but especially when it's kids. Yeah and I mean it just sounds like they were it was just a random thing too they weren't targeted or anything like that. They was just you know this person went in and just hunted down whoever they could find.

Speaker 3

Yeah wrong place wrong time kind of thing yeah uh sucks but uh yeah fuck yeah anyhood uh what's been going on and what else has been happening uh I've seen a couple shows since we've last chatted um I saw the offspring uh with bad religion yeah how was that I've never seen uh bad religion before and I was surprisingly blown away they played like 18 songs old school I mean obviously I've listened to them before but really put a shift in because I really wanted to get familiar with the stuff before uh seeing them live and like they were awesome yeah um I would love to have seen them in a smaller venue like something like the Rickshaw or the Commodore even or something like that but um the sound was actually awesome at said offspring it was really really cool and then Offspring came on and just sold out house here in uh Vancouver at Rogers Arena and yeah they kicked ass and they actually covered a bunch of like Ozzy stuff oh really they covered they played uh paranoid they did crazy train um and I thought that was super cool so cool paying tribute to Oz I don't think they um I think Ozzy might have taken him out on an Ozfest at some point but yeah I I I I I think so I I yeah seem to remember them playing Ozfest and maybe maybe the one and only Ozfest did I go to an Ozfest I'm sure I went to one Ozfest at UBC. Yeah I was there too that was a Sabbath one.

Speaker

Was that Sabbath? No then that wasn't the same one then maybe I'm thinking of something else maybe I'm thinking of uh punkarmatur or something like that that was uh up at UBC I can't so I can't even remember who was playing up there I guess is what I'm saying I thought yeah I thought I was at UBC for something and offspring was there so maybe it was not Oz Fest it was some other festival I guess but um yeah I've seen offspring a a handful of times for sure I've seen them a bunch of times uh I think when I first moved to I mean I'd seen offspring before this but I I think one of the first shows I saw in Vancouver when I moved here was the Offspring playing at uh the Plaza of Nations yes for like XFM Hollow Blue that's what it was XFM yeah so that was pretty cool that was a lot of fun that was and that was that that was a that was fun that was a nice venue I think it was uh yeah it's just it's too bad I didn't see more shows there. I think maybe I saw something else but or maybe that was the one and only show I saw at Plaza Nations I'm not sure there was a couple that I saw Green Day there.

Speaker 3

Okay um yeah but that's the one that was our only kind of outdoorsy venue but they're now building that one up by the PE now like the new Tellus amphitheater of whatever it's called.

Speaker

It sounds really cool yeah looks cool sounds hopefully it sounds cool and hopefully it brings more shows here and it's uh cool outdoor summer venue to see stuff in yeah so bad religion though is awesome because I've seen them a few times and I did see them back in the I can't remember where I saw them uh I saw I saw them in Calgary a couple times though but I've seen them here a couple times too and yeah I I mean they are one of the early California punk bands um early as in early 80s at least of course punk was around before that but uh yeah I mean I especially that early stuff I love uh bad religion I yeah great great stuff for sure actually I was listening to some of their stuff the other day last week sometime and uh yeah just some really cool cool tunes oh yeah fuck they they kicked they they kicked ass and and and I mean and and see there and going back to politics and all this sort of stuff I mean I mean they are they're very intelligent guys I mean these guys I mean they started Epitaph Records uh or at least the the singer did or did more of the guys I know the singer was involved in it but but they they've got these big PhDs or college degrees and stuff like that. I mean they're very very intelligent people very smart people they're not just some dumb punk musicians right that yeah and and you know that's easy for some people to maybe stereotype and say that or things like that. But very smart and you know they talk a lot about politics as punk rock musicians typically do anyways. Um so um so so yeah I mean again that's just another perfect example of people using their intelligence using what's happening around them to write these songs and very good songs and very impactful and uh yeah they're they're they're a lot of fun to see live yeah I was I was I was really blown away by them it was it was awesome yeah cool I was I was up and back and trying to figure out what's playing at Thunderbird Stadium so when did you see uh was it the hip show that you saw that it was another roadside attraction or did you see REM there or did you see um are you talking about Plaza Nations no the um Thunderbird Stadium UBC oh yeah UBC yeah no it was uh I'm pretty sure it was a festival where there were multiple stages and stuff and um I I kind of think it was punkarama more than anything it wasn't it was not fest then it was punk rama and I can't even remember who some of the artists were oh that's yeah it's crazy I can't remember we're getting old yeah can't remember old and the music's too loud well and when I'm learning trying to learn some of this computer shit it's you know I've got to purge some of that stuff from uh you know 20 years ago right so if I'm gonna try and retain things and work on stuff and figure things out I've got to get rid of some of that old shit hopefully it's stored online somewhere no probably not I also went and saw uh the loud big sugar a couple days ago last Friday two Fridays ago and uh they played HemiVision from front to back and fuck that was uh that was a great gig they played for two and a half hours that night wow there was no opener for that right nope two sets and they just ripped it I uh I was getting bugged to uh well I shouldn't say bug but I was asked several times if I wanted to go see that and I decided not to uh because tickets were what 60 bucks that was not too bad. Yeah 50 I'm not too sure. Yeah and uh yeah I'm sure I'm sure it would have been a good show. It's not it's not that I thought it would be a bad show.

Speaker 3

I um yeah I just didn't want to go yeah well across the street too which I would love to have seen was at the Commodore uh Colin James was playing with his big band there and that would have been fucking cool too yeah yeah right on um but there was an interesting uh article pasted on Reddit it's called uh officially retiring from the front row so and I'm just kind of like I I I I feel this in my bones because like I'm bringing the girlfriend to shows and we call it ride in the rail so we're up close we're on the front and um like see being up close for a big show kicks ass. And I really noticed it when two summers ago last summer two summers ago when I was in the States and I saw Foo Fighters from the pit and then I saw Green Day and Smashing Pumpkins from the stands at the same venue and it was like T-Bird Mobile Park. So it's a baseball park and seeing the show from the front was way better than seeing it from the stands at the back because you feel the energy and stuff and we're typically when we well I see shows I know you're pretty close to me anyways uh we were just outside of the mosh pit so you still get the energy of the crowd and you can still see what's going on on the stage and you know sometimes if depending on the show if you're up close you're getting your ass kicked at right under the rail so uh last couple shows I've been to it hasn't been too bad but like being up super close like that it makes you feel like even though they are playing in a big ass venue it makes it feel like it's a smaller place. Yeah so the energy and stuff is really up there but this guy they they're all going off about people being like crossing their arms and it being too loud and you know the kids crowd surfing and you know everyone should be standing up when the bands are playing and fuck it's a it's a good read we'll post it on our webpage oldmen.ca but fuck it's uh it's good did you get a chance to just catch any of the stuff did you rip through some of the comments oh I did and it's yeah it's quite hilarious and and you kind of see both sides to or how people are commenting both ways and I think a lot of people maybe misunderstood the original poster and stuff like that but but but uh but I mean the first thing I noticed obviously was the very first sentence and I thought I thought right away Adam is that you are you changing your name is that you really writing this because it's because it starts off with old man here yelling at the clouds.

Speaker

I know and I thought that was cool I thought that was hilarious yeah pretty pretty funny so um but but again a lot of it um you know a lot of it does go back to what we've talked about shows you know yeah and and and the problem at least I have with shows and attending shows now and um and and again yes part of it's being a little older now too but but part of it too is the how how the how the crowd has changed it seems and you know you know I've never been a big mosh pit kind of guy especially at a massive show like this I mean sure I've been around a a pit at the Commodore not really in one I've been yeah around the pit at the rickshaw when things get a little bit crazy. You know again so I I for the most part you know you you see people help yeah it can get pretty violent but you see people helping each other out and and uh you know people are overall having a good time yes you kind of wonder you know but we're different you know we like to watch the performance and listen to the performance if you're in a pit jumping around and slamming each other yeah you can hear stuff but you can't you certainly don't see what's happening on stage that's for sure right so so again and people are different how they enjoy their their music and their concerts but you know overall I think what this thread you know talks about is some of the reasons why you know things just aren't the same when you go see a live show anymore. So yeah um yeah yeah it's just it is funny hearing it from other people you know and it's there's certainly certainly more old guys out there just like me. We aren't alone it's it just shows we're not alone. No that's right. That's that's right.

Speaker 3

So yeah um and you just have Rush still lined up did you have do you have anything else lined up?

Speaker

Yeah rush uh rush is December so long wait for that um yeah so I actually I did end up picking up some tickets for another show it's coming up next Monday. Um next Monday is all them witches and King Buffalo at the venue. Really looking forward to that I've seen both bands before they're both a couple of the better live acts that I've seen in a long time they they just they sound great they put on great shows both of them I love the music so looking forward to that my buddies from Kamloops are coming up uh so it's gonna kind of be uh and a couple guys here from Vancouver in addition to to myself so it's kind of gonna be uh kind of a get together or an evening out with all those guys it'll be fun because I haven't seen a lot of them in a while so um so yeah so that's gonna be cool before that we are going to the planetarium to see the 50th anniversary screening I don't know if it's called a screening or not of Dark Side of the Moon.

Speaker 3

Oh that'll be cool.

Speaker

So I didn't know this but they have redone the planetarium to it sounds like they have contacted or worked with the people who did the sphere in Vegas. Yes they brought in the screens some big screens uh the the sound system the Atmos sound system and everything like that um and it sounds sounds amazing or it's um it sounds like it's going to be amazing and um yeah I don't know there there is a there is a teaser or a trailer on YouTube uh maybe I should have posted it here um it's easy to find um yeah you know just of some clips of of what the visuals are like for Dark Side of the Moon so yeah that'd be fun so they play it in its entirety front to back and then you've got the visuals and of course the big sound system uh around you so um so that's gonna be pretty cool so yeah it's gonna be a pretty good day when's that that's uh yeah so that's the same day that's before so we're going to the show while we may do some dinner we're gonna go to the planetarium and then we'll go to the show. So it's all the same awesome yeah so it's all a week uh that's a week tomorrow I guess yeah man if you still smoked pot you'd be all fucked up what do you mean still I never really did oh yeah edible whatever it was eat guys no everyone would be all screwed up I yeah I've I've tried it but no I've I stuck to the to the booze that was more my problem I guess back then so now I got now I got nothing except my high on life that's high on life yeah we're both crushing some caffeine this morning yes exactly uh so yeah that's all I got um you know I I'm still thinking of uh I would love to see that triumph show in Calgary that's May 8th I think because there's still no Vancouver date they go come all across Canada and they end up in Calgary and there's nothing here in Vancouver planned.

Speaker 3

I'd like to go see that but but yeah I don't know it's in Calgary so there's always stuff we want to go a lot of the stuff is happening on a weekend now and for me to get time off during the weekend I'm just getting I can't get as time off as easily as I wanted to um kind of the bigger ones I still want to see AC DC. I'm really on the fence for that because I hope like but you know it's like I've seen them like four or five times and tickets are really expensive for it still yeah and like is it gonna be the last time to see them probably but you know like it's still like I've seen the show like I've I've already seen it like three or four times it's the same shit. So like do you spend your money on that or do you try to see something else kind of thing yeah and that's the that's the denial. Yeah when it's that expensive yeah it kind of makes you wonder and stuff you gotta at some point I guess you gotta pick and choose right so yeah and yeah so I'm just kind of like if you know if it's a hundred bucks no problem but it's like 350 to get in the door and that's top and you get lower and it's BC place and we know how the sound is a BC place. It's kind of wonky so for sure um did you um are you looking at G and R tickets for a BC Place or are you passing on that one?

Speaker

No at this point I've been passing I mean I think if anything I'd like to see black crows but again it's BC Place I like I don't know if it was a I don't know I remember the last time I saw black crows they were doing a small theaters I I mean I mean we saw black crows at the Commodore like they and this was well I can't remember when this was um oh somebody said it was the Orpheum maybe it was the Orpheum then but but I mean a small place I mean that's that's the thing I mean they for some reason they decided to do these small theaters at that on that tour and it's like I mean that's amazing it's like it's like why not do why not do two small two shows back to back at a small place like that instead of one big massive concert at BC Place. It's like again it's all about logistics and money I guess but um yeah I mean it'd it'd be much more enjoyable that's for sure. Just it'll be it would sound better, it would look better it would feel just feel more intimate it's just a better experience but I don't know. I know it I know setting up shows is got it is a big deal and it takes a lot of there's a big process involved and again logistics but still just be so much more fun to see a smaller show like these bands like like imagine imagine seeing ACDC at the Commodore now. Like like really like how much fun would that be like like I I mean you're never see and that's that's the thing it it's I don't I don't know if the musicians feel this way probably not but you know it's almost as if well they're too they're you're you know you're too big for a venue like that. Well you're never too big for a venue like that.

Speaker 3

That's how I how I think or do both like there's there's very few artists who can do both like play a small venue the day before and then go so the in recent memory I'm a big Ed Sheeran guy and he played the Orpheum oh yeah no sorry the Queenie so he did the Queen E the night before yeah so he played all his like soft acoustic he came out with this fucking depressing as fuck album. But so he played that from cover to cover and explained why he wrote the song because his wife was going through cancer and all this shit. So uh he explained what every song meant to him he played the song live yep and then he okay done with that side shit here's the happy hour set then he played five of his biggest hits and then he played songs off his unreleased album and then that was it. Like he was four songs came back played an encore and it was done and then he played the next sold out of BC Place like the night after yeah like these acts should be doing shit like that. But the problem is is that the it comes to tickets and scalpers and all the tickets were gone. Like I'm I think I paid like 300 bucks to get into that edge here and show with the Queenie. Yeah uh but I mean it's one of my top five favorite shows of all time just because it was so intimate and so awesome and there's a cool story behind everything right like it was it was it was super cool to be at but there's not a lot of artists who could do that but an A C D C could do that a Foo Fighters could do that. You know all these bigger guys who could do it like look at Queens of the Stone Age they were playing these smaller clubs acoustic shows kind of things so there's a lot of these guys who can who can and should do that for their fans but the problem is is getting tickets and your hands on the tickets you would get fucked. And we were talking about this the other day and the only way to really beat that is they would announce the show and you would have to go line up old school you know first come first serve basis as you kind of get in and go. You can't beat like scalpers can't beat that you know bots can't beat physical people lining up for tickets but um who has the time to do that is it the day of like you have to take day off of work and line up the night before like what what happens it just becomes uh I don't know kind of a pain in the ass but kind of like how it was done fucking back in the early 90s. You would line up a Ticketmaster and you know get your tickets and hopefully you would get some good seats and then you know that would kind of be it.

Speaker

Yeah I remember I remember back in well way back then when yes you had to do that to buy tickets. I think our place to get tickets was there was a uh the bay at market mall in Calgary. So they had it right inside the store at um inside the bay they had a that's where the ticket master desk was where you buy tickets and I remember of course people were lined up outside before you the doors even opened so but yeah but yeah even once the doors opened you know you have all these people crashing in and uh I mean you've got your regular shoppers shoppers in the shopping mall and in the store and stuff like that and and here you have this big long lineup Of a bunch of bangers trying to get tickets for running into the fucking bang. Yeah. Yeah. So it's uh but yeah, that's that's the way it was, right? And um I mean it's I mean sure scalpers were around at that time because you know people would buy their tickets and sell them to scalpers or some of them maybe were scalpers and uh of course you could only buy a certain number anyway, so you I don't know. I don't know how it works. It was never like it is today, obviously.

Speaker 3

So yeah, we're getting we're getting hosed for tickets these days. There's bots and women rooms and cues and pre-sales and artists' pre-sales. We're just getting it's tough to get into the into shows these days, man. Like it's just it's almost more of a hassle trying to get a good pair of tickets rather than it is seeing the show. Like uh I don't think it was like getting our big sugar tickets, it was all GA, so it was really easy to get a ticket and get in there, but like any sort of seated show or stadium gig, you're fucked, man. Like it's tough to get in. There's a thousand millions of people in the waiting room for tickets that don't even exist. And now with people not traveling into the states, Canada's become a very hot spot for coming in to see shows. I think artists are picking up that they aren't going into um like people aren't leaving to travel into the states. So it's it's getting harder to get tickets here even more though, even more so than it has been in the past. Like it's it's becoming more and more of an issue, I think.

Speaker

Yeah, it just makes me think of uh uh a show last another show last week. Um Danko Jones played where did Danko Jones play? Oh, the Plaza for the Plaza somewhere. Yeah, that was the night after. We were out at our at our weekend place or where we usually go for wings and uh beverage. Um a couple beside us were going to the Danko Jones show later that evening. And I think they I think they came from the States all the way up here just to see the show. We didn't talk to them, but we they were right beside us and we could kind of kind of overhear them, especially when they were talking to the server. Um so so yeah, people are people are coming up here to see shows. I I don't like is Danko Jones I didn't even look at his tour itinerary. I don't like I don't know, is he traveling to the States? He strikes me as one of uh as a guy who would say fuck USA and would uh would say I'm not touring down there. Maybe that's why these people came up to Canada to see him or something.

Speaker 3

Well, and it's like it's so easy for them because their dollar speaks volume.

Speaker

Of course, yes.

Speaker 3

You know, we're paying a hundred dollars for a ticket and they're paying 60, like and it's the same price, like and the dollar we're just kind of getting screwed. And I was doing the same thing, but I've really got back. Well, it's next I have nothing planned. Like, yeah, uh I'm not going to the States at all, and it's because it's scary. Like, I don't know if you've seen the shit, but there's an ice office now set up right in Bellingham. Oh, is there really? Yeah, yeah. So that that's fucking scary. And I was like, I was I'm on the Bellingham subreddit, and they're ice are pulling people over on the highways.

Speaker

Oh, no way. I was like, oh my god, like coming in from Canada, they're just pulling people over.

Speaker 3

Well, I don't know if it's um I don't know if it's specifically Canadians, but it's just that extra layer of bullshit.

Speaker

But yes, on the highway down from Canada, yeah.

Speaker 3

Yeah, so uh you know I I mean really paying a close attention on that because I I did enjoy going down and seeing a show, but like that has now stopped. And so I'm just like fuck when there's a lot of good show, like I have no problem ripping down to Seattle to see a gigan ripping back, but at this extra layer of bullshit now, I'm just like for fuck's sakes, because it's just like the odds of being pulled over are very slim, but if it happens, we're fucked. You know what I mean? And it's just kind of well, I just I shake my head.

Speaker

Well, it's and it's true, and I'm glad I'm glad you understand that. I mean, I know you knew that already anyway, so now you've actually stopped going in, which is which is good because because I mean I mean I shared something about ICE again, you know, and how they are um requesting from you know different tech companies, and and that includes social media and stuff like that, how they are just requesting information about people and yeah um you know personal information about you know you and your health and your finances and all that sort of stuff. I mean they so that's the thing. If they are pulling you over and they are somehow able to access some of this information about you, even though you're a Canadian citizen, uh they're gonna try and get what they want from you if they pull you over. Yeah if they have any reason especially to stop you or pull you over or whatever it is. I mean uh nowadays even though I don't know that they should be allowed to, but it just seems like they as you said, it's ice especially, they probably just pull people over randomly and hopefully they get lucky with some. Yeah. Um but but yeah, it just it just the amount of information that is available to them now and with what they are doing as far as you know uh nailing people who have anything negative to say about their government, um it's just really it's just really sad. And uh yes, you're right. You you when you go down there, if you if you go down there now and something were were to happen, you never know what they're going to do. Right. And it's it's just not worth it at this point. Like it really isn't.

Speaker 3

Yeah, it's tough. It's it's tough, it's tough. But yeah. Now I'm all depressed again. Sorry about that. Sorry about that. It's life, man, like anywhere in the world. You can't fight it, but yeah. Let's talk tunes. We like music here. Let's fucking talk some tunes. Uh I gotta play your stuff, so we will start with your first song that you have on your list.

Speaker

Yeah. So uh you're playing for me today because of my tech problems. Yeah, so this is a band called Blackwater Holy Lake. I saw them at um, I think it was the Modified Ghost Festival. Were they part of that a number of years ago? Um, I was familiar with them already when they came in. Um so I knew what to expect. I think it was after their first album, and they're up to four albums now, four or five albums. Anyways, uh really enjoyed them. They're an all-female band, uh female fronted, um, from Portland, Oregon. They've got a new album out now called Not Here, Not Gone. Is that what it's called? Yes. This is a song called Bodies. They've got a number of singles that they've released on the uh on YouTube. So this is I you know what? I had a hard time picking which song I should play here. This one's gonna be a good one. Oh, this shit's awesome, buddy. I love the song. This is This is an early candidate for me for album of the year. It is I I love this entire album. It sounds so good. Every single song is awesome. Um it's it's both heavy and uh I don't know what the word is to describe it. You know, when when when you hear when you hear the vocals, it sounds um it's heavy, it's is it psychedelic? There's another word I'm looking for though that kind of just describes the vocals. And um anyways, but it but it is heavy. It is like this is some heavy stuff. It doesn't sound like it when you listen to the vocals, maybe, but anyways, good stuff. I I love this. I love this album. Again, it's it's uh I think at this point it's one of the best albums. I mean it's only mid-February, but certainly one of the best albums I've heard in a long time.

Speaker 3

No, that's great. I've uh it's on the playlist. I have uh now added it to uh move forward.

Speaker

Yeah, check it out.

Speaker 3

Uh let's rip to your uh second track, which we both had this week. It doesn't happen often, but it happens.

Speaker

So there were you you've got a lot of songs, and I bet you I thought of putting uh in addition to these two songs coming up uh that we both shared, uh there was a couple more for sure, because there's some so some good stuff out lately. This is the new COC. This album's called, or song's called Give Me Some More. Give Me Some More, sorry. Uh this is good this is good COC. I love this stuff. Oh, it's a great track. Um I I don't know that I did I see an album coming out, or is this kind of another one-off like they did a couple months ago?

Speaker 3

No, you're right. Uh April 3rd new album. April 3rd, okay, okay. It's called Good Good God Bad Man. Oh, okay.

Speaker

Album April 3rd. Cool. Yeah, it's a it's a cool song. I I'm I'm looking forward to the album because um yeah. It's uh they've got some good stuff here.

Speaker 3

Yeah, yeah, and it looks like the video he's eating, or not eating, he's playing uh it looks like one of Hetfield's old axes too. Oh really? Yeah. Cool. So that's that's cool to see. And Hetfield's uh played uh done a bunch of guest vocals on their albums back in the past, and they've toured the Metallica, of course, all the time. So for sure. Yeah, good stuff, good stuff.

Speaker

Love the sound.

Speaker 3

Great, great sound, great album. And again, Steven does a great job posting on a web page. You can find all our stuff, everything we ever do, ever, always, at the oldmen.ca.

Speaker

Great, thank you.

Speaker 3

Good stuff, good stuff.

Speaker

Uh let's go to your uh fourth song here. Fourth song, third song, fourth song, third song. Third song, third song, third song. Yeah, third song. Third song. This is this is New Exodus. This is a song called 3. I don't know, do they call it 311? 311? What did they say? 3111, anyways. And there, you know what? There's a meaning to that, and I forget what it is. Can I find it here quick? Anyways, a new song uh from their album called Goliath. It's out March 20th, Napalm Records. Um they've got a new vocalist because they punted their other guy, forget uh who he is, and I forget who the new guy is. Um this is good old Exodus, I think. It sounds great. Um it is. Yes, yes, it is. I mean, you know uh yes, obviously lots of influence there. I mean, I mean they're they're similar bands from the same time, but I think Gary and Slayer. What's that?

Speaker 3

Sorry? Gary Holt's in it playing. Yes, yeah.

Speaker

So I was just gonna say Gary, obviously uh sharing the stage or being in Slayer after uh after Jeff passed away. Um that's got a lot to do with it for sure. Uh Exodus, uh there's something about 311. I don't know if I can find it here. Anyways, anyways, the the video on Did I share the video, the main video? Yeah, there's so there's a video on YouTube. It's censored, it's heavily censored, uh censored, at least at the beginning. You'll see why. You go to their to the Exodus website, download the uh or watch the full video, uncut video. It's uh it's pretty graphic, um, but a great song. Yeah, it's a really good song.

Speaker 3

And they're actually in town on Tuesday opening for Megadeth and Anthrax.

Speaker

Yeah, yeah, and that's again, it's out in Abbotsford, so like shit. I'm not uh I'm not going out. It would be a great show, actually. Uh you know, you look at other dates on the tour in Calgary. Is it Calgary the night before? Maybe it's tonight, I don't know.

Speaker 3

Uh they're doing uh Victoria Tonight. Okay, and then the travel a day drove day and then Abbotsford, and they're going all the way. It's Canada, so they're doing everything.

Speaker

Yeah. So they are um but but they're playing Cal they're playing the Saddledome in Calgary. So yeah, so it's a big uh it's it's a big arena. Uh why don't they play um Rogers Arena here? Like really it's I don't get it. I don't know. I don't know if I I don't know if I'd go, but it would it would probably be a great show. Again, probably the last time seeing Megadeth. Um I I you know seeing uh Exodus that'd be pretty cool. Uh I've got a link up here, but I don't know if it explains why or what the 3111 means. Um it doesn't, but I read somewhere that there is some meaning about it. And I mean if you watch the video you can see that it it's uh with the violence and stuff, that there's uh you know, probably some gang violence and drugs and and uh the cartels and all that sort of stuff involved here. So Oh yes, here we go. According to the band, the track takes its name from the estimated number of murders in uh Wajarez, Mexico in 2010. Yeah, okay. There we go. Murders, drugs, cartels, gangs. There you go. 3,111 people died in 2010 as a result of just that is it Juarez one one town or is that a district in Mexico? I don't know. That's a lot of things.

Speaker 3

These are all good questions. These are all good questions.

Speaker

A lot of people anyway. Uh next one.

Speaker 3

Here we go.

Speaker

Next one is uh Down. Um uh Right Place, Wrong Time. Who who did this song? Uh Dr. John? Dr. John Dr. John did this song, and it's being the video is pretty funny. Uh yeah, so it's being covered by Down. Uh it's their own little take on it, and it sounds pretty good.

Speaker 3

Yeah, big fan. Yeah. And it's nice to see Down still, well, apparently they have a new album coming out as well. Yeah. And I'm assuming that's how they were able to re-record this or cover this song. Yeah. But uh, yeah, super cool.

Speaker

Yeah, because we've heard, I think, for a while now, that they were back in the studio, I think, right? So, well, I mean, there was talk that another album was coming, but we I think we all knew that they were recording again, at least. Yeah, that'll be cool when it comes out to looking forward to that album.

Speaker 3

Um Phil's keeping busy, which is nice to see. Yep. Sober, busy, doing some stuff. Would you go see Pantera's reincarnation if they ever came to Vancouver?

Speaker

Um I I would have no problem seeing the show. I mean, I I think a lot of people have said, well, they don't without Dinebag and uh his brother and Vinnie there. Vinny. They're not Pantera, but I would have excuse me, I would have no problem going to the show, I guess. Um I mean, I I probably wouldn't go, but I would yeah that for me not to go is not for that reason. Yeah. It wouldn't be for that. No, I it wouldn't be for that reason. So I haven't I have no problem with it. I I mean you you have seen them. Uh you said they saw them, they were pretty good, so with Metallica, right?

Speaker 3

Yeah. And that was cool. I mean, I was for one of the lucky ones, fortunate enough to see uh Pantera, and that's actually where I blew my hearing out for the first time.

Speaker

Well, yeah, I think we've talked about the same show, right? This was at um the PE with Slayer, Static X, and Pantera, right? Those were the three bands. Yeah.

Speaker 3

Yeah. Man, the Extreme Steel Tour.

Speaker

Yes. Because uh and you know what? I'm surprised I still have my hearing after that because we were front row. Like we were yeah, we were right up front on the left, uh, right in front of all the big fucking monitors, and I didn't have earplugs at the time. Yeah, and um I mean, sure, I probably did some damage, and at least I can hear so far, anyways. Because that was 25 almost 25 years ago, I think. That was a long time ago. But that was a hell of a show. And and and I always bring this up too every time we talk about the the Slayer Pantera show, is that uh after that we came into we came downtown and went to see Fear Factory at the Commodore, yeah.

Speaker 3

Because if you brought your ticket stub, you got in for like 15 bucks or something like that.

Speaker

Exactly. Yes. Um how stupid is it though to have two shows like that on the same fucking night? Oh yeah. Like somebody fucked up there, really.

Speaker 3

Well, I mean, just look at uh Big Sugar and Colin James.

Speaker

Yeah, all of the same target audience. It is, yeah, that's very similar. Yep. Yeah, same thing. You know, it's uh, you know, again, I know there's lots of different scheduling involved and logistics, but like, yeah, you just don't do that. I don't know.

Speaker 3

Do some fucking homework, guys. Come on, live nation. Like, come on, come on. Um, well, I love how we have overlapping tracks, it happens, and that's the cool fucking shit about the tunes. Yep. Um we'll move on to my stuff. Uh, I love me some Seven Dust. Here's uh new Seven Dust. The song's called Is This the Real You? Uh new albums coming out. Uh album is called One. It releases on May 1, which is pretty fun. But uh big Seven Dust fan. They were in Vancouver, they played with Dope and Static X uh almost two years ago was the last time they rolled through town. Um but yeah, like big, big fan of Seven Dust. Uh most underrated Melaband in my opinion. What did you think of this track?

Speaker

Yeah, I know I know you're a big fan for sure. You've talked with them a lot, and uh you've talked highly of them, and I like this too. Yeah. Like I can't say I'm a I'm certainly not as big a fan as you are, but uh they've got some good good music, and this uh I enjoyed this song.

Speaker 3

Oh yeah, and if and I don't know if you uh played the three hi-fi setup with this fucking power.

Speaker

I will I will uh because I just played it on my computer here with my headphones, my cheap headphones. Well not cheap, but not really cheap, but yeah, sounds like it deserves a good sound system.

Speaker 3

Yeah, give it a give her a go. Give her a go. Uh new Seven Dust, uh new band, so not new band, but uh Black Label Society. Oh, good old Zach. Speaking of Panther, we move over to Zach.

Speaker 2

Yeah.

Speaker 3

Um songs called Name and Bloods. Uh I don't know if they have a new album coming up, but they are ripping through town. Uh they're here St. Paddy's Day this year. Uh with so it's gonna be Dario's band opening up, and then Zack Sabbath are playing, and then Black Label are playing. So it's a night of it'll be a night of Zach shredding the whole night, and I'm fucking super stoked for it.

Speaker

So um So he's I didn't even know that uh Zack Sabbath was opening, or he was that was opening as part of his Black Label show.

Speaker 3

Yeah. Really? I think that's a first.

Speaker 1

Wow, yeah.

Speaker 3

So I I don't know if they're gonna because uh Black Sabbath or sorry, Zack Sabbath have always been a three-piece, so I don't know if they're gonna move to a four-piece forward or they're gonna change the set or different drummers. Like, who the fuck knows what's gonna happen, but it'll be interesting to see.

Speaker

Yeah, for sure. Well, you gotta bring in Joey for for Zack Sabbath on drums, you would have to, for sure. So you would have to, yeah, sure it's still Zach, but you would have to bring in the other guys, and then Black Label can do their set after. I mean Well, I think that's what cool sense to me, yeah. But anyways, that that would be cool then for sure. Yeah, I didn't know that was happening.

Speaker 3

Still lots of tickets available, so uh maybe we'll see you there. It's a short walk. Um, but cool shit about this is that they've really gotten into guitar work. So him and his other guitar player Dario, they're they do some crazy shredding at the very end of the song. Yeah, and it was kind of like their last album too, but really cool stuff.

Speaker

Yeah.

Speaker 3

Yeah. They're both uh they're both going off.

Speaker

It's it sounds great too as well. Yeah, I I really like that.

Speaker 3

That's a good tune. Good songs, good songs. Um From Good to Bad, let's listen to Dead Pony. Uh have you are you familiar with Dead Pony?

Speaker

I'm I'm not. And uh well maybe I should be, but anyways, I won't I won't say why, but I know why. So but but see, I thought when I saw the name, I thought, oh okay, you shared something from them a while a couple you know just a short time ago, a couple months or three months ago, but no, it's it's a different that was a different band for sure. So yeah, I don't I'm not familiar with uh with this band at all. I have I have no idea and if they've been around for a while or if this is their first album or whatever it is, but I you know what, I mean I didn't mind it. Yeah, no, good stuff. Yeah, yeah, for sure.

Speaker 3

Um so Dead Pony was uh Emily's from Lincoln Parks past band. Oh, okay. So that's where the kind of name has been flipping around. So they replaced her with this lady and they're out doing what they're doing. And the song rips, man. The song, the song goes. Yeah, I didn't mind it uh at all. Yeah, it's a pretty good tune. Uh, eat Eat My Dust. Uh no um no mention of an album, but hopefully they release some new stuff uh new stuff soon.

Speaker

It's a different uh there's it's there's a different sound to it. Well you can hear that when you play it, but um yeah, it's it's still pretty good. Good stuff, good stuff.

Speaker 3

Uh another song we almost uh doubled up on was uh um Truck Fighters. Song called The Bliss. I love Truck Fighters, man.

Speaker

Oh, so and uh So do I. They're just I again there's I don't think they're doing anything different here, but it's just so good. I just their sound is I mean, again, it's their sound, I wouldn't even say it's unique, I guess, but there's just something about this band that is just as soon as you s they start playing, you kind of know it's them. I guess that does make them unique. But it's but it's um right away it just wants to make you jump up and down. Yeah. And it's just uh Yeah, it's great song. So they've yeah, it's nice to see they've got a new album coming out because it's been a while, I think, for them.

Speaker 3

Yes. Yeah. Uh very much so. Yeah. Um, new album called Master Flow coming out April 10th. Cool. Yeah. So it should be uh it'll be a good day. A lot of good tunes coming out, man. This is it's very exciting for a year of 2026.

Speaker

Well, it is, for sure. That's why I said, you know, it's it's kind of cool that we uh had two or three songs or three or four songs here that uh both of us were going to share. And um, yeah, that's another that's one of them.

Speaker 3

Yeah, good times, good times. And the last one, I don't know if you made it through this one, but it's kind of like uh I don't know, this is like a new take on Plexes on Fire, perhaps. But this is uh Don Broco. Uh the song is called Nightmare Tripping featuring Nickelback. Uh did you make it through?

Speaker

Uh not I I played quite a bit of it, but I didn't I didn't I didn't listen to the whole thing.

Speaker 3

I was like, uh I was I was like, what the fuck is this? Uh but uh I was actually a big fan. I was having a conversation with another Adam of mine, uh a friend Adam, and uh he were talking about this song, and their last album was actually pretty good, but I thought it was two albums ago that I really quite enjoyed. Um yeah, shit, this stuff was uh uh the song I liked was called Technology, and the song he liked before that was called Amazing Things. So it's different guests vocalists kind of doing some shit on it, but uh yeah. Anyways.

Speaker

Well it's you're into it. Is is Don Broco the name of an individual, and that's his band's name, or or has he just always been kind of a solo guy bringing in guests, or like what is it? Because I'm not familiar with the guy. I don't know.

Speaker 3

You're right, solo guy kind of bringing in guests. Okay. Uh but I think I it hasn't been all the way's guests. I think it was like a collaboration per album kind of thing. But uh yeah, good stuff. I was uh I just thought it was very weird and kind of cool, so I had to share it. And uh it doesn't get your approval, so it was a fail on my part.

Speaker

But uh well, just because it's Nickelback involved, that's the only reason. Maybe it's not a bad song. You know, I'll you you you you Chad's got that voice. You kind of know it's him once he even though he's singing chorus here, really, for the most part, it's you could still tell. And uh yeah, it's just uh just kind of don't make fun of Chad.

Speaker 3

Don't make fun of Chaz.

Speaker

I'll make fun of Chad if I want to. Oh shit. It's my show, damn it. Well, yours. It's true. You can do what you want.

Speaker 3

I have there's no filter on our show. There you go. Uh there's a clip of him recently. He was at some casino, and some like drunk lady came up to him and he was hammered. And you're like, Chad, sing me a song. And he just he did, anyways. I was like, Oh, what a what a good dude. What a dude. That's funny. Uh, I was at the Roxy one time and he walked in. He's like, beer's on me, and he bought everyone around. Really? Like the minute he walked in. I mean, that's fucking cool. But that's Rockstar Money, you know.

Speaker

Yeah, well, I don't know. I don't know. That's not that that might be cool and stuff, but it's not gonna make me like the music anymore.

Speaker 1

That's just yeah.

Speaker

Um, you had one more song there. Do you did you pass on that for uh for each other? Oh shit, you know what?

Speaker 3

I didn't even I didn't even load it.

Speaker

Um that's my bad. Uh sorry. And I and I knew that this one was on your list. I knew it was gonna be there, so that's why I purposely didn't put it on mine as well.

Speaker 3

So well, because we've talked about this and we shared a song last week about this, and now it's loading, but um we have Meganeth covering Ride the Lightning.

Speaker

Yes.

Speaker 3

So uh quick history. Megan um Megadave says he wrote half the shit that Metallica play, all the old stuff. Yeah, and arguably he did. Uh but what is funny about this is that apparently he wrote one riff on this, but he's covering it note for note, and like no one really knows what happened behind those closed doors. But first off, this is a great cover of Rag the Landing. Um second off, uh I like the way they kind of change some stuff around. It's not true to the original, but they've changed some of the riffs around, um, specifically after the solo, which is cool.

Speaker 4

Yeah.

Speaker 3

But I mean, it's it's cool, it's a nice tribute. Who knows if it's an actual song, but I don't know. What do you think of this?

Speaker

Oh, I liked it. I didn't I didn't mind it at all. Um I mean, I was more curious about your thoughts because you're the expert, you're the big big Metallica fan. So I was wondering uh how you thought, you know, how you because we again we had talked about it, we knew this was coming. Yeah, but uh is it is it a good thing, is it a bad thing? So it's not it sounds like you think it's a good thing, you enjoyed this.

Speaker 3

I just yeah, I love the fact, I love the fact that he's been bitching about Metallica his whole life. Yeah, his final album, he covers a Metallica song and he covers the solo note for note for what Hammett does. Yeah. So I'm just like, what the fuck is actually going on? But um, I wonder if I can find that rift that he changes. But yeah, I mean, the production level on the song is great. Like it just real this full new Megadeth album is actually really, really good.

Speaker

Yeah, yeah, it is. And that's yeah, it would be it would be a cool show to see, but uh well, it's not gonna happen.

Speaker 3

Yeah, that's uh you know, honestly, I would get out there just to see I'm I'm I'm sure he's sticking true to his word. I don't think he's coming back. Yeah, but again, Megadeth is like ACD, too. They add one new song or two new songs, and it's all the greatest hits. Like, change your set list, man. Like, you have 15 albums, 16 albums full of shit. Play something else.

Speaker

For for sure. You've got yeah, you know, 40 years of music or whatever, you know, what's yeah, what the hell are you doing? Yeah.

Speaker 3

And you know, and that just doesn't drive me to go see them again. So you know, it kind of is what it is, but but yeah, this is exactly like it sounds like an exact replica of uh the original, so which blows me away.

Speaker 4

Yeah.

Speaker 3

But here's the change up. So the drum beats is the changeup right here. The drums change.

Speaker

Okay, yeah.

Speaker 3

So, yeah, typical uh, but again, that's the same kind of riff that um, you know, Megadeth, you know, speaking of riffs and whatever else, it's the same kind of style that they've been doing. So it's cool to see they added their flair to the old or his song or whatever you want to say. There's no one really knows who wrote it, who did what, yeah. But uh here we are. We're playing it, we're laughing, we're having a good time. Yeah, exactly. But and that's what counts. Share the music. Hopefully, you're having a good time. And uh hopefully the show kicks ass. Yeah. And I really hope they if they start playing this live, I might have to call them sick. But uh they're playing it um they play tonight at in Victoria. So we'll see what happens. Right on. Tunes of the week, man. Some good tunes this week. And I love the fact that we overlap. I think that's fucking awesome.

Speaker

Doesn't happen very often, though. Yeah. There's something like there's been the odd song here and there, but never as much as today. That's good times. It's like we're it's like we're buddies or something. We're buddies, but we haven't seen each other in like two years.

Speaker 3

Hey man, I see your uh your lovely face. I was gonna say your ugly monkey, I see your lovely face um every every two, three weeks. So uh it's a good and I talk to you more than with some of my best friends, so keep that for most kids.

Speaker

Right on.

Speaker 3

Uh so I did actually, we talked about I mean Stranger Things wrapped up uh New Year's Eve, and I finally finished it. So I was actually pretty blown away with the way it ended and the way it wrapped itself up and and all that stuff. I was quite pleasantly surprised with the whole um series and this last what is season five, season six, whatever it was. It was fucking awesome. Yeah.

Speaker

So it was. I mean, we I think we talked about it a little bit. Maybe not much, obviously, because you hadn't seen it, but I mean we talked about some of the disappointment that people had and felt like it was a big letdown, but I I don't know. It's it's uh I I didn't mind it for sure. I th I thought it ended really well. I think um yeah, maybe there's still some questions people might might have, but uh hey, things gotta end eventually. You can't carry on things forever. Um I I I think it you know what, because early in that early in this final season I thought it dragged a little bit. And you know um I don't know, I forget which episode at this point, uh I suppose, but you know it's just like, oh man, I'm glad this is ending this year and whatever. But you know, it f it finished really well. And um uh yeah, of course watching it in 4K with Adolby Atmos was really cool. And um Yeah, it was it was I mean it was a good it was a good series.

Speaker 3

So big fan, and I'm happy and I'm I like it actually like I was really disappointed with the ending No, no, I didn't I didn't have a problem with it.

Speaker

Yeah, either did I, and I think I think that speaks volumes for because I think that I mean that was the problem a lot of people did have though, I think, isn't it? They they felt they they they you know I there were uh things unanswered and maybe they could have taken it an extra step or something like that. I I don't know what people were thinking, but no, I I was fine with it.

Speaker 3

No, big fan. Big fan. Yeah. Um so yeah I'm behind on fucking everything. But I want I did watch a movie called The Wrecking Crew, and it has uh Dave Batista and Jason Momo in it. It's like kind of like a buddy cop brother kind of movie on it. Yeah. Uh did you watch it? Is it on your radar?

Speaker

Uh excuse me, I am I'm aware of it. Um will I watch it? I mean I'd like to, I guess, but yeah, there's so much out there, right? It's just uh I I I have so much on my list that you know I tend to watch things and I've got a I've got a big collection, but then I have a little watch list that keeps growing and I never get to it. So it's always the way it is. So it's it's pretty tough. Yeah, with new stuff coming out all the time. It's like, oh, okay, well, oh, season one of the new episode is out uh now. Let's watch that instead, right? So there's always something to keep us occupied.

Speaker 3

So we'll see. But uh it was cool. That's one of the few movies I've had a chance to sit down and watch. Um I did pre-buy tickets for the new Scream movie coming out February 28th.

Speaker

Oh, okay.

Speaker 3

Uh Scream 7 coming out. It's actually uh the first series of movies being uh the girlfriend watched. So we're both going to watch this, and it's cool seeing like the old school stuff and watching a new movie, so that's it'll be super cool. Yeah, and I'm really stoked for uh Project Hail Mary. Uh well not Project, but Hail Mary, uh new space movie written by the same dude who uh wrote The Martian. It had stars Ryan Gosling, yeah. But they're playing it in 70 mil, which is the old school film format. Uh and I got with the scene membership, the scene scene club is what it's called, I was able to buy tickets for pre-screening on March 13th. So I'm fucking super stoked on that. Was that on your radar at all?

Speaker

Uh uh, you know what? That one I didn't even know about. So uh so yes, I uh I I saw the I watched the trailer, it looks pretty good. I I don't know that I'll see it in the theater. Although, oh yeah, as you said, that's or sort of said implied, I guess, is that if you're gonna see a movie, it sounds like that's one of the ones that you should see in the theater. Yeah. So um yeah, right on.

Speaker 3

Uh that's that's one on my thing. Um, I noticed that uh you're are you looking for movies to watch in HDR with Adobe Vision and Atmos?

Speaker

I'm I'm always looking for for some of the better movies to watch, yes, to you know, take advantage of the of the new TV and decent sound system and stuff here, right? So um yeah, definitely definitely looking.

Speaker 3

The big ones, I mean, I think we talked about it with Atmos and all this stuff, is uh the new Blade Runner, obviously. Uh old school Blade Runner, um Dune, the new Dune movies are really cool. Yeah, um, Lord of the Rings, all the Lord of the Rings, the Hobbit movies are really cool. The Hobbit ones is really cool because it was actually shot for HDR. Uh so they use different cameras and stuff for high frame rate stuff.

Speaker 1

Oh, okay.

Speaker 3

Um, so that's uh super cool to watch. Um what else was I thinking of? I should have written it down. Um but yeah, there's a lot of stuff. Um do you still have a Blu-ray player? No, yeah. So that's um a lot of the stuff on Blu-ray, the HDR stuff on Blu-ray is really, really well done.

Speaker

Yeah, that's where you can really take advantage of the sound too. Yes. Um I mean, yes, some of the movies are streamed with Atmos, but yes, certainly on on Blu-ray you've got uh yeah, you you seem to get the better audio for sure, or the better audio options, I guess.

Speaker 3

So Um Carpenter's the Thing is awesome because they redid that full remastered version for HDR.

Speaker

Yes, I heard about that. Yes, that's been even though I've seen it many times, uh it sounds like it's worth watching and it's it's acquired. Yeah, that's that's on my HDR watch list for sure.

Speaker 3

And one that I need to re-watch is apparently Pacific Rim is supposed to be remote.

Speaker

Oh, is it? Yes, I've heard of that. Okay.

Speaker 3

Yeah.

Speaker

That one I keep forgetting about. So and you know what, I I'm not sure I ever saw that. So Oh fuck, yeah, no, it's cool. Cool, okay. I'll I'll check that out as well.

Speaker 3

Big robots beat the shit out of each other. And of course the neutron movies. Yeah. Uh those have all been remastered, and uh especially the new stuff is is super cool. Uh but those are like but I think those are good for HDR and sound, so it should just rip on your new setup. Okay, sounds good. Um, are you are you watching any TV? You're still ripping through the um stuff you've been watching, Mayors of Kingstown, all that stuff?

Speaker

Bunch of TV. I mean, I think we talked about Mayor's Mayor of Kingstown. Uh season four was done. They've renewed season five. It'll be the final uh the final season of the uh series. So looking forward to that. The one we did finish, uh I think since last time we chatted was the The Night Manager. Nice. Um it's it's pretty good. It takes place ten years after the first one did. Well, again, it I think the first season came out ten years ago. So this uh actually I don't know if it is ten years after, maybe four years after. Obviously, it's after the fact. Um at the end of season one, way back ten years ago when it finished, I thought that was it. And I think most other people did too. Yeah. But now with uh season two ending, because we're we're finished, it does look like they're uh season three. So perfect. Yeah, so that was really good. It's worth watching, I think. Uh The Pit. We're in season two of the Pit. Um do you know about the Pit?

Speaker 3

I do. So it's kind of like 24, but like for medical. So it happens uh a day in the life of uh of ER, whatever. I have yet to watch it, but um I was a big Grace Anatomies fan, so uh I might have to get on the get on the train.

Speaker

Does it does it hold true to what happens or well yeah, it's it's very real realistic, and I think they've obviously done that on purpose. I think they've done their research and they probably have some medical people on staff or something because it's very it's uh very well done when it comes to probably the day in in in a big city emergency room. So and some of the things that that are going on there. In fact, in fact, it's I think you know, I think they even went further this season. It's more I think it's more graphic. Oh, I mean yeah, than season one. Uh it's still very realistic, but it's it's m it's definitely more graphic for sure. Um see that's awesome. So so it's yeah, so it's well done. Uh yeah, so it does take place. One episode equals one hour in the day of a of an emergency room shift uh at a Pittsburgh hospital. Um yeah, so it's it's pretty good. Um what else are we watching? Um couple movies we've watched. Um One Battle After Another. I guess with Oscar season upon us, uh we're going to start watching some of the movies that have been nominated for uh Best Picture or other awards, uh Academy Awards. So that was one of them, one battle after another. I don't know if you saw that, but I think I I was well done. I enjoyed that. I think pretty good movie, yeah. Um the other one we want to watch, of course, is uh Sinners. I know you've seen that too. Uh Sinner, the Sinners, whatever. Yeah, I think those two are duking it out for probably the top awards uh coming up this year. Uh so that's on the list. We haven't seen that one yet. Uh I did watch Havoc. Havoc is one of the newer movies with Tom Hardy. It's just it's just non-stop uh action in that film. Uh I don't know if you saw that one as well, but holy shit. It's that's just non-stop.

Speaker 3

It's on the list, but yeah, I haven't watched a chance to watch it because it's on Netflix and anything on Netflix. I don't know. Do you still subscribe to Netflix? Are you out?

Speaker

No, no, we're out.

Speaker 3

Um, because the streaming stuff on Netflix, like it streams in 4K, HDR, and it comes in Atmos. So like watching Stranger Things straight from Netflix was fucking awesome. Yeah, and that must like they redid all the logos and stuff for Stranger Things, like it was super, super cool. Yeah, it was. Uh a lot of production value in that, which I respected. But the sound and that like I'm sure you have the great sound for that stuff, especially when Vecna's moving all his tentacles and stuff around. Yeah, fuck it. Sounded awesome.

Speaker

Yeah, yeah, it was pretty cool. So so yeah, Havoc was uh was cool to watch in in HDR. Uh, did it have Atmos? I'm sure it must have. It must have. Yeah, being on Netflix. Uh yeah. So uh so that was pretty good. We saw I saw the sequel to Sisu, Sisu Road to Revenge. Oh, yeah. I talked about that Norwegian, no Finnish. The Finnish movie came out in 2021, I think. I saw the first one though, just a you know, a few months ago before Christmas. Uh I really enjoyed the first one. Second one's okay too. It's uh you know, it's pretty good. I think it's worth seeing, but the first one's definitely better.

Speaker 3

Uh and he's got like one line of dialogue and he says yeah or something.

Speaker

I think so. Even in the first movie, he didn't say anything until the very end when he went to cash in his gold at the end. Yeah. Pretty funny. So um uh one other thing I'll comment on is um oh, we did see the A Simple Plan too. That's an older movie from 1998. It's uh Sam Raimi movie. Uh oh sick. It's with um who's uh who's uh in it. It's um why can't I remember his name? Um I just Jodie Foster, but she's not the one I'm thinking of. Uh who else is in it? Um simple simple one? A simple simple plan. Not the band simple plan, but uh movie simple plan. You might be typing faster than we're gonna be. I'm typing. I'm going. You're going. Okay, I've got it here now. It's um Simple Plan. Oh, Danny Elfman was uh wrote the uh score for it. Um Bailey Bob Thornton. There we go. Billy Bob Thornton and Bill Paxton. Oh fuck that's cool. So it was a pretty good pretty good movie, actually. I didn't mind that. Yeah, I think Billy Bob Thornton got a uh nominated for an Academy Award for his role in that, and he's pretty good. Shit, I'm watching Landman. Did you watch Landman? Yes, we watched Landman, he's in that. Did did you like that? Uh we enjoyed the first season. It was okay. The second season was trash. Oh, okay. Yeah, that's our opinion, but I know people who liked it as well. But uh first season was decent. It's it's another one of those series by uh uh see my my memory's going too.

Speaker 3

It's uh it's too full of Linux, it's too full of Linux.

Speaker

It is, see, see, and that's not that long ago.

Speaker 3

Taylor, what's his name? Taylor Sheridan?

Speaker

Taylor Sheridan, yeah, because he's done a bunch of things. He's he was doing the mayor of Kingstown and stuff. He's doing a bunch of stuff. Yeah, he's involved in a lot of shit. So anyway. Uh no, one the one other thing though I was going to talk about is uh a series that it's just it's kind of crazy. It's considered a horror, I guess, a horror TV series. Um it's called The Beauty. Okay. And it's um it's with uh, let's see, who would you know in it? Well, there's a bunch of people. There's Evan Peters, Anthony Ramos is in it, Rebecca Hall, Ashton Kutcher is in it.

Speaker 3

Oh wow.

Speaker

Um so there's some bigger stars, uh, but it's it's it's kinda it's odd for sure. Anyways, the the premise here, I'll read the premise off Wikipedia and uh it's a sexually transmitted treatment known as the beauty spreads rapidly, granting users physical attractiveness through aesthetic-based genetic mark makeup while concealing lethal side effects that begin to overtake their lives. As deaths and public panic escalate, an FBI investigation and competing interests converge on the forces behind the drug and the epidemic it sparks. So I it's a definitely different, creative, I guess. Uh I don't know. It's uh it's it's it's I wouldn't say it's great, but it's it's interesting for sure. So um so yeah, uh that season, I think there's only four or six episodes in the season, and I think I'm through four or five episodes already. It's a weekly thing.

Speaker 3

So you're getting through.

Speaker

Yeah. Yeah, I'm getting through. Interesting. Sort of a horror movie, horror series. Yeah. It's uh it sounds like the substance.

Speaker 3

Did you ever watch the substance?

Speaker

Yes, yes, that is very much what it's like, that movie with Demi Moore. Yes. That movie was so fucking good. Yeah, I enjoyed that as well. Yeah, so it's it's it's it is kind of I don't know if there was some sort of influence there in in in the movie and the TV series, but uh but yes, it's kind of similar in some ways. Yeah.

Speaker 3

Same kind of realm.

Speaker

Yeah. Yeah, I gotcha. Uh so yeah, that's it. I mean a couple other things we're playing around with here, but uh those were the big ones I wanted to bring up. Awesome. Always something. Like I said, there's always so much TV and music and movies, and yeah. And I'm behind on life.

Speaker 3
