June is National Indigenous History Month and we would like to recognize the history, heritage and diversity of First Nations, Inuit and Métis peoples in Canada. We encourage all Canadians to educate, understand and to create a path toward reconciliation between Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples.
In this episode, we list some athletes who wore the number '69' on their jersey. Do you know any of these guys? The latest on the NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs and COVID-19, plus my struggles with TELUS… Yes, I finally purchased a new Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra but it was not a fun experience. Adam is in a similar boat with WorkSafeBC. And we chat about some new music, including a cool, new video from Red Fang.

If you have children or in the area where you can't have anything vulgar said, turn this off right now. These guys are dumb. The bald one with the beard likes to swear a lot, and they both have no idea what they're talking about. So it's safe to say it's NSFW for children. Fair warning. Don't sue them or me for that matter. So just sit back, put some oat milk in your coffee, and enjoy.
SPEAKER_04Thank you kindly. Check, check, check. Test, test, test. Check it in checkity too.
SPEAKER_02Check it in check it-loo.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, I think I'm working.
SPEAKER_02Uh I am not. Fuck, why is this why is this so hard? You hit record, we're good to go. I know. Nothing happened. Nothing for me has worked out today, so I'll talk about this.
SPEAKER_00Why would you want to listen to two old guys yelling at clouds? And the worst thing? One of them is a fucking Swiftie. Anyways, if you're still listening, here's Adam and Steven.
SPEAKER_02Yes, welcome out to it, another episode of Old Men Who Yell at Clouds Vir, Episode 69. 69. Hello. It is. Uh what day is it today? It is. You got Steve Tractor in. I don't even know. It's Saturday, June the 5th, 2021. Uh the voice you hear is the co-host of mine. Hello, Stephen. How are you?
SPEAKER_04Hello, Adam. I'm doing pretty good.
SPEAKER_02Uh it's Saturday, which is a day earlier for me, which fucked everything up, but it's all good.
SPEAKER_04Oh, that explains it. Okay. And that that's a good idea.
SPEAKER_02We did talk about it. We talked about it. But I just I I woke up late, but we'll get into that. But first, uh, I ripped this off from Captain Scotty. Scotty is uh a sports nut, so I even you're a sports nut, so all sports nuts, every player in sports is identified by a number. And I'm like, Steven, what's your best favorite number for number 16? And you would tell me, Trevor Linden. But today, we are episode 69, so I want to know who your favorite 69th player is today.
SPEAKER_04I I don't I don't know that I have a favorite. And you do you know what? To be honest, I couldn't Well, I couldn't think of anybody. That's that's the thing. We missed 68, 68 last week, and and no one likes 68. No, but that was Yerim or Jager. So I think it's yeah, I think it's important to bring him up, and obviously one of the greatest players in the game. And he's still rocking, he's still playing. Like, how old is he? He's he's not as old as me, but uh he's still he's still playing hockey over in Europe somewhere, and the guy's a fucking robot, man. He's he's never gonna stop.
SPEAKER_02Uh he was at what, Flames? He was a flamer?
SPEAKER_04Oh, he he well, he he was Pittsburgh Penguins, of course. Pittsburgh, okay. And he won the cups with them. Uh but he played with a bunch of teams after and didn't have the same success or anything like that, but 'cause he played for Boston for a short time as well. And I can't even keep track of some of the teams he played for. Like fuck, because he because he kind of he moved around quite a bit after, and because he wanted to keep playing, and and and that's not a bad thing at all. You know, good for him. He played for the Rangers, I think. He played for Boston for a bit. Did he play for the Flames for a bit? Oh fuck, I can't remember.
SPEAKER_02That's where I see him from. I I forgot he played for the P Penguins.
SPEAKER_04Oh, well, yeah, that's him him and Mario, of course. Like those two were just so good together. And uh yeah, one of the best duos in the game. Everybody talks about McDavid and um Dryseidle now for uh for Edmonton. A great duo. Uh of course there's Boston and uh Marchand and um and Bergeron. And of course you had you had Pasternak to the list now, and they're probably the greatest line in hockey. So uh there's a bunch of duos. I mean you look at Curry and Gretzky and uh Yeah, yeah, it's uh the dynamic new duos in in hockey that I think they go way back. So uh anyways, I I got sidetracked there. So uh 69 for for uh there aren't many uh uh sports uh or main uh you know athletes in the in the game who are who are wearing 69, and I did have to look it up, like I said, because I couldn't think of any. Most of most of them are in football. Uh most of them are NFL players. Um uh the top of the list is a guy by the name of Jared Allen. I think he played for the Kansas City Chiefs. He played quite a few years, I think. So um uh anyways, uh you know what? I'm not a big NFL guy, so I don't know who the guy is. So I I'm looking at a list, a top 10 list uh that was generated from some website or something like that. And every single one is an NFL player, except for there's one baseball player on there and one NHL player, Andrew Dadar Andrew Desjardin. He played for San Jose for a little bit. Uh I think he was in the league for about 10 years. Um you know, if if he's your top hockey player who wore number 69, well, that just goes to show you that not many players are wearing it, right? So uh other hockey players though, and a lot of them I found another list here. Uh they're all over in the European leagues, like the German League. Uh gentleman, one gentleman by the name of Florian Kettemer. He played in the Munich, uh, if he played for Munich in the German League. Don't know who he is. Mel Angelstad. Mel Angelstad. It looks like he played for Washington for a little bit. Did he wear 69? I think he did wear 69, although he only played in a couple games, I think. Okay. Yeah. Uh there's a gentleman by the name of Pierre Grand Champ. He played for the Pierre. He played for the Colorado Avalanche sled hockey team. So not in the NHL. Uh we have Andrew Desjardin on the on the list. Oh, Alexander Bermistrov. Now he played he played in the NHL, but I don't think he wore 69 in the NHL, but when he returned to Russia, uh, I think that was his number over there. So he he wore 69 in the KHL. And the biggest name on the list, uh, and it's not because he wore the number here in the NHL, but Nicholas Baxstr. He's the he's the great hockey player for the Washington Capitals. Uh him and another great duo, him and uh uh Alexander Ovechkin. Uh but yeah, he he because he wears 19 right now in the NHL, but apparently he did wear number 69 uh over there when he played for Moscow Dynamo. Okay that's another KHL team. So hey, there's so there's some 69er trivia for you here to start you off this week.
SPEAKER_02Fuck, we went deep on that. I zoned out. I don't know. Yeah. I was thinking of a different 69. I I know you were. I know you were.
SPEAKER_04But but one thing, one thing, there's no NBA players on on that list or any names to be found. Uh now I thought I had read something that um the NBA did not allow numbers above six above 55, or at least that they needed approval, league approval. And apparently the reason for that was that the refs, when they signal fouls to the scoring table, they always use their hands to indicate the the number of the player who who incurred the foul. Okay. And that seemed to make sense to me, but then I found that no. Maybe it was true at one time, but it's no longer true, because it sounds like uh there are players, uh several players who who wore numbers above that. But again, 69 is on the list of play of of numbers that have not been worn by an NBA player. So interesting. Uh so yeah, yeah. I don't know. I guess everybody's uh avoiding the 69er, so um I guess when they're playing sports, they want to focus on the sport and nothing else, right?
SPEAKER_02Well, I can't be friends with those guys.
SPEAKER_04That's why you don't like sports, I guess, eh? I guess so.
SPEAKER_02I mean, yeah, it's just one of those I mean I don't mind sports. I did watch your Bruins. So because we're uh I was gonna say something inappropriate and really inappropriate for even myself, so I had to stop myself. But because we're kind of going backwards here, let's uh start with sports. Well, how are your Bruins doing? What's going on?
SPEAKER_04Cool, yeah. You know what? The the playoffs are in in uh in the second round now, all of their so there's so there's four series. We're in the quarterfinals, I guess. Uh yeah, so um it's such fun hockey, you know. Like all four series have been really good games. Um a game last night between Colorado and Vegas. That was such a great fucking hockey game. It went to overtime. Uh good thing Vegas won because they closed the series now a little bit. Colorado still leaves two leads two-one. Yep. But that was a fantastic game. Uh right now is game four between Tampa Bay and the Carolina uh Carolina Hurricanes, another great series. Um, Tampa Bay went up two zip in the series. Carolina won the other night. And now they're leading this game. This is game four. Like I said, they're leading two one in this game. And fuck, I hope they come back and beat Tampa Bay because fuck Tampa Bay. And my Boston Bruins. Oh, I guess I should say that Montreal has gone up on uh on the Winnipeg Jets uh two zip in that series. Uh some controversy. I don't this happened after we met last, I think, or chatted last. Uh there was a big hit in game one. Um Montreal had won the game. Uh there was a big hit towards the end of the game, and that's all everybody seemed to talk about. Uh one player for Montreal got knocked out, and he has concussion issues in the past, and obviously this gave him a concussion. Who knows if he's gonna make it back into the playoffs this year? So obviously his health is number one. Hopefully he's gonna make uh full recovery here because it was a pretty nasty hit. And that was that was uh no, no, because the player who delivered the hit, Mark Schikflee from Winnipeg Jets, he got a four-game suspension. So uh yeah, so he's out. You know, uh he's not a dirty player. It was a bad, it was a bad move. He he definitely shouldn't have delivered the hit, maybe in the manner that he did. But he doesn't have a history of suspensions, he's not a dirty player. Players make mistakes, yes, and and yes, they deserve to be to pay for it if if regardless of whether or not you're a dirty player or not. Anyway, four games suspension in the playoffs is too fucking much. So there is an appeal process, but he's not gonna go through with that or anything like that. So he's gonna do his time. Hopefully, uh, I mean, hopefully Winnipeg comes back though so he can so he can play later in this series because he's only missed one game. Uh, and they're down two zip to Montreal, like I said. So uh so shitty for him, shitty for Winnipeg. Um uh yeah, anyway. Anyway, Boston Bruins, the game four between them and the New York Islanders is uh that later this afternoon. And another great series. Boston is up 2-1 in that series. Now, last two games have gone to overtime. Uh Islanders won game two, Boston won game three. Great fucking hockey. It's got me on the edge of my seat, and I'm pulling my hair out what little hair I have. And um, but it's lots of fun. I just love this time of year. It's just yeah, it's it's regardless of who's playing, it's just great hockey, and um I just enjoy it so much.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, even you know, it's it's kind of infectious. I mean, we all I think out of all the sports, hockey is the one everyone kind of even if you're not into it. Like I remember going to some hockey games as a young lad, and my dad didn't like my dad would show because if we get the family pack for a hundred bucks and go see a canoe's game, whatever it was. My dad didn't know what the hell was going on, but we're cheering for the guys in white. They're like, okay, so he would cheer for the guys in white. Um and that kind of brings me to um the Montreal Canadiens and the Toronto Leafs series that just ended. Yeah um uh hopefully uh Devin Towns is recording a new album, and hopefully he's gonna join us here in a couple weeks. Cool. Uh, but um he was watching the games with Gigarth Richardson over on the island because he's working for them for a new album.
SPEAKER_03Yep.
SPEAKER_02And he doesn't Devin never posts about sports, whatever, but he's like, hey, I'm cheering for the Leafs. And then the Leafs got their asses kicked, whatever it was, and everyone was jumping off the Leaf bandwagon, including Neil Morrison, who was uh on this podcast before, biggest Leaf fan. He threw his Leaf jerseys and his uh T-shirt jerseys in the garbage in a viral video now. Did you see that video?
SPEAKER_04That was so awesome. I saw that when he posted it and I laughed my ass off. Uh he is a big Toronto fan, and they are they are hurting right now. Like they have been they have not won a playoff series since 2003. Is that is that correct, I think? I have no idea. Like it's been a long time since they've won a a playoff round. They've been knocked out of the first round, you know, uh lately by by Boston, uh also by uh Washington. I know that's most recently, like you said, by Montreal. Um and I just love it so much. But but you know what? The the fans the fans are hurting. Like they are like like they just like they're wondering what the fuck is going on with their team. They've got some great talent there, and they just can't get it together in the playoffs and they suck. Anyways, it was fun watching that video that Neil posted. I I wonder I wonder if I wonder if it's I wonder if he actually did throw those jerseys and t-shirts out because you know that's like five hundred bucks right there of merchandise. And yeah. Um you know, I as frustrated as I was I would be as well, I guess. I wouldn't I wouldn't be throwing my jerseys out, but anyway. Uh great content though. So we'll have to ask him if he actually retrieved the jerseys from the garbage after he stopped the video.
SPEAKER_02Uh who knows? Uh obviously he's gonna say no, but jerseys aren't uh cheap. No, they jerseys like two fifty, whatever it was. Yeah. I remember having a bet with uh Mr. Skin back in our radio days, and it was a Canucks bet. We bet jerseys. Um that the Canucks would be. I think he was uh I think he's a Bruins fan like yourself. And um so there was like an exhibition game, whatever it was, and the Canucks won, but we bet jerseys for. And I actually got a jersey, but Scott and Karen got sweatshirts. I'm like, he's paying for jerseys, it's Mistress Kane, he's worth a billion dollars. Give you a fucking jersey. Okay, get what you can. I got this awesome, like it's a black and green Canucks jersey. It was like a limited edition practice jersey. Um, it has uh Henrik Sidin on the back. Uh I guess arguably one of the greatest. I don't know. It's a I you're not a Canucks fan, but can you respect the Sidin brothers for playing?
SPEAKER_04Oh, of course, of course. Uh you know, I mean I made fun of them like a lot of other people did. Yeah. Um you know, maybe it wasn't nice, maybe it wasn't fair, and uh, you know, I I'm over it, of course. And yeah. Uh but there's no denying that they're a great they were great for the city, they were great for the team. They they're they're they're talented, there's no question uh that they came a long ways from you know, here you are, two 18-year-olds um from from Sweden, you know, scrawny, skinny young guys who who come over here and um you know they end up they end up growing uh growing and and playing such good hockey together. And you know, they were ex and there's you there you go. There's an excit another exciting pair of players that uh that just produce some magic on the ice uh together, right? So so for sure, for sure. You gotta respect them. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02So it's good, and uh, you know, but I got this awesome jersey head and so yeah, but jerseys aren't cheap. Like that jersey was 300 bucks.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, do you still have it?
SPEAKER_02I still have it. I still wear it. That's my uh I wear that whenever I go see hockey. I remember the last hockey game I was. Yeah, and I'm usually one of the cheap guys. I don't pay for it, like I'll go buy a scalper ticket from them.
SPEAKER_04Yeah.
SPEAKER_02And I'll walk up like halfway through the first, and they're just trying to unload, so I'll I'll pick up a hockey ticket for 20 bucks and walk in.
SPEAKER_04Yeah. That's that's the way to do it because typically uh uh I'd rather sit on the couch at home and watch. Occasionally, occasionally, yes. We've uh I rarely buy tickets um you know, through work. We used, you know, the you used to have the contacts and get tickets through work and whatever. And um I think I told you about a group of Boston fans that come up from Seattle every year, whenever Boston comes through Vancouver. And so I always meet them at the pint and then I I typically go to a game with them. I'm never sitting with them because they're always getting their tickets, you know, when they go on sale.
SPEAKER_02But yeah.
SPEAKER_04Uh but it's nice to to catch up with them and and then just go watch the game after and stuff like that. But yeah, typically I I have if I'm not getting freebies, then I go get a scalper ticket for you know, I'll pay up to fifty bucks or something like that. And you know, even if I'm up in the nosebleeds, uh if you're at center ice, you still got a great view of everything and it's oh yeah. You know, it's just not worth it to spend more than that for a game. It's just it's just so m so expensive.
unknownYou know.
SPEAKER_02Well the hard the hardcore kids will pay like up to two hundred and fifty bucks, three bucks for a game.
SPEAKER_04So I know that's that's crazy.
SPEAKER_02It's a bit, but hey, if you want to do it, you do you boo, you know? It's one of those things.
SPEAKER_04Well, you're right, and it's you know it's it's part of the business and you know, they're filling the stands. Wow, they're not selling out like they used to. And I know they were struggling to get season ticket holders there for uh probably again the last couple years, but hey, they've got a pretty good young team again, and you know, hopefully once we get sta uh fans back in the stands, uh they're gonna fill the place.
SPEAKER_02So yeah. Yeah, I agree.
SPEAKER_04Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Uh we'll see what happens when this whole COVID thing kind of blows over. But uh they're they're really pushing. Like it looks like they're really pushing to go back to work and stuff. Everyone's geared up for it. But you know, if if we can follow anything from New S uh Australia and New Zealand and all these places that right when it first started, they locked down, everything was all good to go, but they got that awesome, well not awesome, but that crazy new variant that crippled the city again because it was the um I don't know if you read about it, but instead of showing uh five to seven days for symptoms, symptoms happened in one day. Uh so they reclosed everything down again. So I don't know, I think we're binding off a little like a lot more than we can shoe at the moment. I guess we've got a return to action plan, everything's going to, but I think we're moving too quick.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_02We're not a fucking expert or anything, but if you can show from or if you can pick up from what the other states and countries are doing, we uh it's it's a trend. And unfortunately it's probably gonna happen here and everyone's gonna bitch about it, so I think they should kind of maybe slow it down a little more, revise it a little bit. But I mean numbers for us are kicking ass right now. I mean, we're under 200 daily, yeah, which is better than you know two thousand daily, so we're doing you know, we're doing something right, but uh a little eager to do that. Like it's saying uh June 15th, everything outdoor personal gatherings up to 50 people, indoor seated gatherings, speci recreational travel, uh sports teams, uh liquor services up to midnight, which is gonna cause some shit. The banquet halls are gonna be open, and again the continue to work plan with small in-person business meetings. And but still the main thing for this one is the masks are still gonna be mandatory for public spaces.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_04Well, that's good. That's important for sure. So um I I I know that they've officially named these different variants now, instead of giving them code numbers and stuff that nobody can remember or understand or anything like that. Uh I think they've given them names, and I and I can't remember uh the name of this latest one. Um, but I think it's isn't it a uh didn't it's they first see it in Vietnam? Uh but isn't it a UK India variant or something like that? Um anyways, uh what I have read is there is one of them at least, anyways, one of the variants they have just discovered that the Pfizer vaccine is not very effective against it against it. Yeah, so so so that's the thing, you know, it's just like like you just we can't let our guard down. And yes, people are getting vaccinated, which is good. Uh yes, people are following the rules for the most part, and numbers are going down. But you know, numbers, the thing is to remember numbers went down last summer as well, just because it seems like the variants uh don't aren't transmitted as much when the in warmer climates or when it's warmer outside. Uh I I'm just I I guess I'm just wondering is come fall time, are we gonna be in shit again? Uh you know, even even though people are getting vaccinated and they hope to have a majority of Canadians vaccinated by September 17 September 7th or whatever the date it is that they kind of hope hope to open up again fully or sort of normal. Um yeah, yeah, so we'll we'll have to see, you know what it might all look peachy and rosy and green here in the summertime, but you know what's gonna happen come September, October, November, December again.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. Um that variant is called the Delta variants.
SPEAKER_04Okay, that's it.
SPEAKER_02Yep. Um have you uh got the email or text for your second shot?
SPEAKER_04Oh yes. That that yeah, thanks. Uh we got ours like Teresa got hers yesterday, I got mine overnight, you know, just last night.
SPEAKER_02Oh, good for you.
SPEAKER_04Uh so it's it's just a reminder. That's so that's the thing. It we still aren't able to register. Oh, sorry, no, we still aren't able to book that second shot yet. We are registered. Ready, uh, but we are still not able to book an appointment. Uh, basically, that message just gave said, you know, hey, um you've had your first shot.
SPEAKER_02Yep.
SPEAKER_04Uh we both had the AstraZeneca, so it did lay out the two options for us. Uh the first one is that we can go to our pharmacy and get the second dose of AstraZeneca, or the other option is to go to one of the other mass vaccination sites and get the likely it's gonna be the Pfizer. So uh those are our options. Once we get that other text message that says we can book an appointment, we'll have to kind of decide what we want to do.
SPEAKER_02So yeah. Um I'm all booked in for my second vaccine on the 19th.
SPEAKER_04Are you? Okay. Yep.
SPEAKER_02So um, but so there's a lot of let's talk about that for a sec. Um so now they're saying you can mix and match uh vaccines. So your AstraZeneca, you can do AstraZeneca or mix to the uh Moderna or the Pfizer, and same with my Pfizer, so I can mix to Moderna or Am I able to mix to AstraZeneca? I don't know if if that came out, but I can have either one or two. Yeah. Uh but I'm sketchy on mixing them.
unknownYou know what I mean?
SPEAKER_02Like they always say not to mix your drinks, so I'm not gonna mix my vaccines. Uh so but I so I am booked. I don't know what I'm getting. It's uh Saturday morning. I like booked for 1055. But Delta's so backed up, I'm actually going to New West to get mine.
SPEAKER_04Okay.
SPEAKER_02Uh there's an awesome place, or not an awesome place, but there's a big ass um one of the community halls there right on Columbia Street in 6, right next to the Sky Training Station. Okay. Uh they turned one of the halls into it. So I'm hoping for that, or I'm hoping for a Pfizer. Um, if they do have uh, I'll not show up. I'll be a no-show for it because I just don't want it. Like something in my head and my gut says not to mix the vaccines. So I will uh I will see kind of what happens. Even if they say, and I I see my family doctor on Friday or Monday for my final foot update, so I'll ask her what she says because she's obviously a medical professional. But yeah, right now my internal gut says right at this moment on the Saturday, two Saturdays before I get it, I don't want to mix vaccines.
SPEAKER_04Yeah. Um a couple things on that. Uh number number one, and probably most important, is that I think the quantities of the Moderna vaccine are low or they're limited. So um, so chances, and again, I'm not the expert here, but chances are probably pretty good that since you had the Pfizer for your first shot, you're probably gonna get Pfizer for your second shot.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_04Uh the other the other point is I know you don't like to mix and match, and if you have the Pfizer, you know, there's probably no advantage of getting the Majerna as your second shot anyway.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_04But I have it's my understanding that if you had the AstraZeneca for your first shot, it is an it uh an advantage to have the Pfizer vaccine as your second shot. They're saying from what I've read, yeah, you are better protected. Um uh compared to having two AstraZeneca shots uh for your for full immunity, it sounds like which which it which works, by the way. It's it's not like it doesn't work. It does work, but it sounds like you are better protected uh if you have that Pfizer shot as your second dose. So uh we haven't decided. We're gonna see kind of what's presented once we we receive our text message and we'll kind of go from there. But that's why I'm kinda I know I I said right from the very beginning that I was not interested in the in the Pfizer vaccine, and that was more of a uh that wasn't a medical reason, I guess. It was more of a you know personal political reason, I guess, just because Pfizer is out to make money you know with their vaccines and stuff like that, uh more than anything. But hey, if it's gonna work better for me and I have an opportunity to get it, then you know, it only makes sense. I've got to kind of put put aside those feelings, I guess, that I have about all that other shit.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. Well you'll see what happens. Um so you know, it's only a matter of time, and we'll make the call when we get there and uh we'll be good to go.
SPEAKER_04That's right.
SPEAKER_02So since we are kind of going backwards, uh I I saw a big tweet from you that you bought your new cell phones.
SPEAKER_04Yes. I don't know how I'm feeling about the whole thing. Because, like I said, you know, before, we we really did not need to do this. We did not need to buy new phones. I have the Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus, which is I've had it for over two years, you know, but it is a three-year-old phone. Um, hey, it's still working great. The battery is not that bad at all. So for what I do, especially working from home, like I'm looking at my data plan that I have through TELUS, and you know, like I'm I I don't go out anywhere, I don't use up any data, so it's really I have not been using my phone to its full capabilities, obviously. I use it for phone calls, and I'm at home, I've got my laptop, my computer here where I do everything. So yeah, so I didn't really need to do this, but um yeah, yeah, it was it, you know, it was a it was a it was not a fun experience. Let me just put it that way. Yeah, I uh I've been a customer of TELS Mobility for over 20 years. Every single time I've gone in to buy a new phone, especially recently, I call up their loyalty departments. Uh there's a f uh a number specific or that direct to the loyalty department, and I call them up and I ask them, hey, you know, what's going on? What can you do for me? What are what are the specials out there right now? What kind of discounts can I get? And I and and in the past, I've always been able to make an arrangement with them and then go to one of the telest stores, they would bring my account up on their computer and they would see the agreement there in place that I had discussed with the loyalty department, and they're able to fulfill those um those discounts or those agreements.
SPEAKER_02That makes sense.
SPEAKER_04And we always used to get you know phones almost free because sure we had to sign another two-year plan or whatever, but with the trade-in on our old phones and with the discounts that were applied to the new phone, like they were almost, they were basically free.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_04And and all of the phone companies now have restructured their the way they do things. You you can't you just can't do that anymore. Uh, so that's part of the problem. I don't want to, I don't want this to go on forever here because I could probably talk about it forever. And because I was really, you know what, I was really pissed off on Monday. I finally, you know how I've been flip-flopping on this and deciding what to do. Well, I finally pulled the trigger on Monday and I said, okay, we're gonna do this. Um and I just it was hell. It was it was just the bullshit that happened in dealing with this company. Uh, it really pissed me off. And uh, you know, what I what I discovered is that you have you have your teles loyalty departments, you have and uh no, sorry, let me let me backtrack a little bit. You have your telus web store, your online store. You have your teles, uh, you could call them up over the phone and and talk to them about phones, new phones, and your plans and all that kind of stuff. And you have your teles stores. Well, well, as I mentioned earlier, they all seem to be integrated, they all seem to be um uh part of the same company, TELUS, right? Yeah, but they're not anymore. That's the thing. They are not like what you agree to, what you buy on the web store is separate from what you might get. So they're the deal that you might get uh at at when you go to one of the stores in person. And the deals I was able to make through the loyalty department are not being honored through the telephone or through the physical stores, which is just fucking ridiculous. Like you're the same company. Um, anyways, like I said, I'll I'll keep it short. Um oh, sorry, the other thing is I when I tried to purchase online to take advantage of all those discounts that I was getting. Uh again, we were not getting free phones by any means, but I did have some discounts that uh uh that I was able to swing. Um it was not working. Like I tried, like I tried probably a dozen times to to order phones. Uh one time it finally worked for Teresa's phone, and and it was a little the order form was a little bit different. When it came to my credit card, instead of having different fields for my first name, last name, I don't know why, but there was one single field for my name. So I would fill out my first name, initial, last name, or whatever it, whatever it might be, and the transaction worked. I logged on to my bank account, I could see the transaction and everything.
SPEAKER_02Yep.
SPEAKER_04For me, uh for whatever reason, I was not presented with that one field for my name. So what happened is it always failed, and I think it was because of that. Like they tried to tell me something different, it was my address and a bunch of other things. They also said that, oh, because you've tried so many times, your bank has locked your credit card. Well, I called up my bank, and no, they they did know that the transactions failed, but there was no block on my account, or there was nothing to prevent um me from making further transactions. So TELUS is full of shit. Um I and one time, sorry, no, two times it did seem to go through for my phone. Um, but I would get a like I even got an order number and everything like that. I got the email saying, you know, thanks a lot. Here's the order number, blah, blah, blah. Here's how much you paid. Uh, and then a short time later, it failed. I would get another message saying the transaction didn't complete. I went logged into my bank account, I couldn't see the transaction take place or anything like that. Um, anyways, long story short, I had to deal with multiple people, and again, I could went through the loyalty departments. I ended up ordering everything over the phone uh for both my wife and I. Uh, the phones are currently out of stock that we want, so they are being uh kind of pre-ordered, I guess, and when they come in, they'll ship them to us. Um long story short, we have new phones on the way. So uh but it was a struggle, like I said. It was not a fun experience. Yeah, it was not a fun experience, and uh it never used to be that way. And you know, is it like that for uh the other phone made you know major phone companies? Is it like that for Rogers and for Bell?
SPEAKER_02I think so. I think because I had the same experience like you when I phoned them to upgrade to my newest iPhone 12 Pro Max, they're being bitches about it. They're like, oh no, you gotta pay, or we don't pre-order, or sorry, that like they there was every excuse out of the book. I'm like, I'm trying to give you money. Like, I want to support you. You guys have you're my career, I don't want to jump ship. What can you do for me? Like, I don't mind waiting, but give me some sort of discount. Oh yeah, we can give you 50 bucks off and you have to wait a month. I'm like, my phone's fucking dying, lady. Like, I need a new one. Like I I can order from the Apple store and pick it up the same day. Like, you either want to make some money, just give me 50 bucks is 50 bucks. Like, I didn't even care about that, but give me the phone the same day. Oh, we don't have the call. And I I understandable it was at like during the heart of COVID and everything was losing its mind. So I actually just went to the store. I ordered it from the Apple store, and they're super cool, did a pickup and spent all my money at the Apple store. But um you know, but they're I think that the phone companies now just have so much power over us because they all offer pretty much the same plan. There's no variance, there's no not like you go to Freedom or whatever the other telemarket or or tele or the other big there's a yeah, Freedom. I don't know if Virgin's still around, but I think that's freedom. And what's the other pay as you go? Well, there's there's Kudo, there's Fido, there's um Well well Fido's still Yeah, so I'm with Fido, and they're it's still like a subset of Rogers because they bought it. Well they all are.
SPEAKER_04That's the thing. Even though there's other smaller companies out there, they're all still subsidiaries or whatever you want to call them of the big three TELS, Bell, Rogers. And um they might have a different name, they might give you different plans and stuff like that, but you're still giving money to the big company. So and you're right, they've got you by the balls. Um well and and and and the CRTC lets them get away with it. That's that's the thing, that's what it comes down to here. Yeah, it's the government and the CRTC who tries to regulate the telecom industry here in Canada, and they just don't give a fuck about the consumers. And uh these uh these telecoms are are just screwing us every way they can. You know, like remember when CRTC banned the three-year plans? Yep. Uh they dropped three-year plans that because that was the maximum at the time, and they dropped it down to two. Well, these these telecoms whined and cried and they complained and stuff like that, but they've basically found a way around the system, and they are they are doing things differently so that they're they're making more money than they were before. Like yes. That and that's so that's the thing here is that um, you know, the the and CRTC just doesn't seem to care. So they just uh they let these guys get away with everything. And you know everybody says Canada has the worst uh and most expensive um data plans uh in the world, and I think that's true. Uh and from what I've seen, it's just it's a big fucking joke.
SPEAKER_02Well, before I bought this phone, I was trying to buy uh well we couldn't I've traveled to the States, but I was thinking about getting a States phone because you can walk into the Walmart in the States, you can buy the phone outright, plus unlimited everything for a year for like a grant. So it's a new phone and unlimited everything. And like, so how is that like imagine if the Canadian companies did that? It'd be awesome. Everyone would have the newest, coolest tech. Everybody wins from that deal. Yeah, the way we're doing it now is just we're just getting like you can say grabbed by the balls, and it's just it sucked, it sucked hard. And you know, there's no happy ending, no one's winning. It's just uh it's such a pain in the ass. Uh and there was rumors that Ryan Reynolds is gonna bring mint up here. Yeah. But with all the bullshit, I don't even see how how we would get it up here, because I'm sure people have tried to bring the other thing, and again, the CRTC probably protects these big three or whatever, and no one can compete against them. So it's a monopoly, and we're getting fucked as the customer.
SPEAKER_04It sucks. Yeah, yeah. Yeah, it would that's exactly what Canada needs is some um some competition here to to really smarten up the you know the big three plus the CRTC and stuff like that. Uh well again, it will the CRTC let them. There's so much so many fucking hoops that they probably gotta go through. Yeah. Most of these companies probably don't think it's worth it because it's a pain in the ass, and you can't really blame them. So uh it's shitty. I don't know. I don't know what needs to be done. Um hopefully something's done at some point because it just can't keep going on like this.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I would hope so, but who knows? Anyway. We don't have the answers.
SPEAKER_04No, we don't. I wish I fucking did.
SPEAKER_02So uh you bitched about Telus. I was gonna go on a t last week. I was pissed last week. I was gonna go and rip WorkSafe a fucking asshole because they have been screwing me. Uh, but I don't want to do that. I have since because of my old age, I have now turned my. I want to hear from you, the listeners, how you've been screwed over by WorkSafe, because I can't be the only one. I went in for my final physio, and they told me that WorkSafe has now denied my claim because I haven't been able to see my family doctor. Uh so they're still holding my paychecks.
SPEAKER_03Oh fuck.
SPEAKER_02They are still now I can't go in for physio because my I can't make an appointment to see my doctor. So, like I mentioned earlier today, I'm gonna go see my doctor finally on Monday to figure out what the hell is going on and hopefully reinstate my physio and get different things because uh yes, I'm walking and moving around and starting a new job and doing a bunch of shit, but I'm still in pain. Like I still don't have a hundred percent of my foot like when I was able to move around and stuff. So to me, I'm still fucked. And now I'm missing valuable days because they disapproved my claim. So I usually Friday nights I go for physio, but it obviously wouldn't happen this week because the shifts are all fucked. But I've now missed two physio appointments because they denied my claim to go see my family doctor, and the earliest they can book was or the only time I could see her was this Monday. But there she's working a lot from home now and doing a bunch of things, so she only has limited office visits. And I finally got in. So I want to hear from you, the listeners. Email us at oldmen who yellowclouds.com. Uh check out our website. Stephen does an awesome job on the website. Uh let's hear your work stories, let's try to fix this bullshit. Cause like I've I broke my foot February 2nd, and it's now what? June 2nd? What day is it today? June the fifth. So it's it's been four months of I mean, I was walking in month three in, but it's been I've had nothing but problems with work safe. And I can't be the only one, and I can't call a number and bitch at them because they're oh, they're doing the job, and it's just fuck it. Like I I don't want to take the energy to hate them. I just want to know what your other stories is. So maybe we can spread awareness and help the system become better.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, that's really shitty, man. Yeah. Uh sorry to hear that. And you know, I bitch about TELUS, and you know, that's a kind of first world problems that is, and that's really insignificant to come compare to what you're kind of going through with these guys, because this is your life here that we're talking about now. And um you're getting hosed big time and you're you're not getting the money that's you're entitled to, and because of these guys are fucking incompetent assholes.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_04Uh who who don't give a shit about you, really. They don't. They might uh they might be there to care about injured workers, but uh it sure doesn't sound like it, you know. Uh and again, uh I've said it before, I've never heard any good stories about WorkSafe BC or the compensation board or or whatever it happens to be, yeah, regardless of what province you're in, because uh they all have different names, but it sounds like they're all just a bunch of dicks. Um yeah. I I just I I don't uh that's something else I don't get either. I I don't understand how they just can keep doing this stuff.
SPEAKER_02Like I under Don't get me wrong, I understand what they're trying to do, but the way they're going around doing it, like I clearly broke my foot. Like I'm not faking it. I like there's I get people abuse the system, and I understand that, and that happens for everything, and those people are fucked cards and they ruin it for the rest of us. But for the people, like they have so many procedures and stuff in place to see what happened and stuff. But the power they have to hold like the thing that's that really irks me is that the power they have to hold my paychecks, not only from my old job, but in the transition to my new job because I'm still in a claim to them. How do they have that power to hold that paycheck? Like, if I wasn't living at home, I'd be on the streets. I can't afford rent, like I can't do anything. I've had to move appointments around and shuffle them because I broke my foot, and thankfully I had that grace period to do that. Otherwise, I'd be on the streets. I mean, it's just the way it's the way it is, and the cost of living is going up. Although minimum wage went up, but the cost of living is going up. Like, we're getting totally fucked over. But the power, I just understand the power, and maybe if you work for Worksafe, let us know. Like, I just want to talk, I just want to have a conversation, maybe we can enlighten, because I have questions through my own experience. So maybe I'm I'm sure I'm not the only one dealing with this shit. So I'm sure someone out there might be able to help us. So if you work for WorkSafe and want to talk about it, fuck, get in touch with us. Like, let's do it, let's set some light on it and help other people. So we don't want you to get fucked over in the end, is pretty much what I'm trying to say. Yeah. But yeah, last week I was ready to go. Like I was so pissed off. We went overboard last week and I just kind of forgot about it. But then I had a week to sit on it. Which is why you shouldn't tweet right away. You know what I mean?
SPEAKER_04Like, well, that's yeah. That's that's true. Whenever you're upset about something, whether even if you're at work or on social media or whatever, yeah, just I I've done it in the past too. Yeah, you just get you get worked up and you just want to fucking you start fucking banging away at the keyboard and and you end up sending something that you regret later on. And uh I've been there. Uh I think I've learned from that. And I of course I still get pissed off about some shit and I go on my rants, but uh hopefully they are more thought out and and they are gonna do some good, hopefully. That's the main thing.
SPEAKER_02So I hope so. Yeah.
SPEAKER_04That's not shitty though.
SPEAKER_02We're getting there. We're we're all learning together here at Old Manhattan Clouds.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, you're never too old. We're old, but you're never too old to learn. They say you can't teach uh an old dog new tricks, and maybe sometimes that's true, but uh hey, I'm still learning. I've got uh I'm I'm learning all the time, man, and I think that's important. So uh it makes me a better person for it.
SPEAKER_02So there's a good transition. Speaking of learning, this past six weeks, someone's is trying to explain. I was trying to explain to someone, so I'm learning a new skill for a new job, and I was trying to explain to someone what it feels like. And I feel like I'm being waterboarded. I have this fucking information going through my head. Yeah, and right now is the prime of it. Like, we're getting all these tests and stuff getting it's gonna happen to us. We're gonna have a 250 hour test coming up, and we're gonna have a 500 hour test. And that 500 hour test is the big one because that once we pass that, we're officially hired and nothing can stop us. Yeah, but uh until we get to that 500, like we're still getting every day's information. And it feels like you know, you get a someone sticks a hose in your mouth and sprays it, obviously, it doesn't, but it feels like we have a fire hose. And it's just coming out of everywhere. Like I'm so mentally drained. I've been usually un plus the schedule of this it's I'm on on the job training and stuff, but my schedule's been all over the map. So that when I first started, I was starting at um I was seven to three in classroom, then had a week of starting, and I was starting at 5 a.m. till 3 p.m. for a week. Then I went back to 7 a.m. to three p.m. for an another two weeks, and now I'm doing pretty much graveyard. So now I'm 2 30 to 1 30.
SPEAKER_04Like 1 30 in the morning?
SPEAKER_021 30 in the morning.
SPEAKER_04Holy shit, really? Okay.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. So by the time I'm home, it's like 2.30, almost three o'clock. Like last night I went to bed at 3 30. Yeah. And I woke up at like a like whenever I reset today up. The minute I woke up, I had like missed phone calls. I was just dead to the world because I it's I'm having great sleeps because I'm working so hard now. But um yeah, just getting waterborne with all this information. So uh I have apparently one more week of afternoon or graveyard, or they call them afternoon shifts, which is 2 30 to 1 30. And then I'm actually out in the wild, so then I actually start my actual shift shift, which is actually not too bad. It's 2 30 to 7 30 minor to Friday, so it'll help um it'll help bridge the gap. But because we have so much schoolwork, every second week, every second Sunday, we're gonna have starting study groups just because we gotta keep the information fresh and stuff. And if we pass, if we don't pass that 500, we're done. So it's a pretty big moment and kind of a stressor. But they say if you ask the questions and don't slack off on your job and take some accountability of what you're doing and what you should be doing, you'll be fine. So I'm not worried about it, but yeah, I gotta keep up on the up-to-date work and stuff. So it's just gonna be a pain in the ass for the next couple weeks. And I'm sure you'll hear about it here, you'll hear me bitch. But for the most part, I got a pretty good handle on what's going on. I got some specific questions, which I can't even mention here because it gave away the job pedal. Yeah, I can't get in shit again, so it's a bunch of stuff. No, we don't want that. We're getting there. It's uh one thing at a time, so I'll keep you all entertained. Um so because of that, I haven't had time to do shit this week. I pretty much get up, do some running around, I'm off to work, and then I come back because they're 10-hour shifts and I'm getting my ass kicked, but uh my week's been uh pretty lacklustered. You have an interesting week? Anything happened to you this week?
SPEAKER_04No, nothing's going on either. I can't Yeah, I wish I could say something exciting happened or I did something or whatever, but it's no. It's um I got nothing, man. That's and it's it's kind of been that way for the past for the past fucking year and a bit. It's crazy. So uh yeah, I don't know.
SPEAKER_02Just one of those things. Uh you gonna skate in this week?
SPEAKER_04Am I getting what? Sorry?
SPEAKER_02You you're getting your skates in?
SPEAKER_04My skates, yes, sorry. Uh yes, uh, yeah. So I'm I'm still trying to go well, it's not working out to every couple days, but maybe every three days or something like that. So I I went out this morning. I made it well late this morning. I went for uh I I thought it was supposed to rain for like two or three days here, and um the sun popped out and it's uh was a little bit windy, but yeah, I got in a good skate here this morning. So um yeah, I should be I should be good for another couple of days anyways, and hopefully the rain doesn't last too long because I still think we're we're getting two or three days of solid rain coming up.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I think so too.
SPEAKER_04Um but yeah, it's just um yeah, again, it's good to get out there.
SPEAKER_02So yeah, totally.
SPEAKER_04It it's just it's a break I need because uh you know I complain all the time about not doing anything. I'm I'm working, it seems like I work like uh nonstop from whatever, 7 30 till 4 or 3 30 or 4 o'clock or whatever it is. I don't take any breaks, I don't go out for a walk or anything like that. So these past whatever, how many months have I kind of been at it? Uh I've kind of gotten into a routine here again, and it's nice. That's awesome. It's yeah, it's good stuff.
SPEAKER_02Uh and with that being said, because I haven't had time to do a bunch of shit, I haven't even listened to much tunes this week, but you got a bunch of tunes this week. What are you uh what are you rocking out this week?
SPEAKER_04Well, well, yeah, I did find a whole bunch of uh new tunes again, lots of new stuff coming out all the time. And I haven't been good at keeping up on some of the new stuff either, but uh this past week though I discovered some new things. I I just you know, and I I know I gave you a list here and stuff, and yeah, I won't go through the entire thing, but uh like my pick of the week though is uh is a new album that's come out uh from Red Fang. Yes, and uh this uh latest single of theirs is called Arrows, and they've got a video for it, and these guys make the funnest videos that I've seen in a long time. Like consistently, they are doing something fucking wild and crazy in their videos, and this one's no exception. It's a great tune, and it's a great video. Um yeah, so so check that out. It's it's just I I just I just love it.
SPEAKER_02I was laughing my ass off on this video. One thing too is it's cool because it kind of it wraps around everything we like. The heavy, awesome music, great song, and the production of the video is awesome because I think it's been done before, but they're slicing shit, they're pretty much uh slicing shit in slow motion. It's it's fun, they're having a good time, but you know what this reminded me of there's this band a little while ago called OK Go.
SPEAKER_03Yep.
SPEAKER_02And they had crazy videos like this too. So I actually went back and watched two or three Red Fang videos, and all their videos are you're right, they're all pretty crazy, but OKGo made some pretty good videos too.
SPEAKER_04Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Um but yeah, I'm a big fan of Red Fang. We can just try to get those guys on the show.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, it would be fun, yeah, because those guys look really cool. They just uh, you know, I don't know if they come up with these these themes or these uh ideas for their videos, or if it's uh, you know, if they they have somebody else in their camp who does it for them. But um, but yeah, it's just it's just really neat. They make a comment at the beginning of this video. Basically, like you said, they're slicing things up by the this sword. They ordered a sword, um, and basically I think all of their earnings from their album paid for this sword or something like that. The one guy did it without telling the other band members. Anyways, they make a comment at the beginning about something about KISS that they would not do something like this or do anything similar or something like that. I don't know. But then then throughout the video, they're fucking carving things up and slicing things up with the video. And one of them is you know it's a KISS record, it's the Casablanca label, but the bottom part is kind of uh covered up, yeah. So you can't tell that it's a kiss album, but you know it's a kiss album, so uh it's just kind of funny, and they just kind of sh that uh shred that thing to bits. Uh yeah, it's pretty cool, pretty funny. Uh somebody else who does great videos, actually, he does as a solo artist and also his band that he he is in is uh Till Lindman, uh, of course the lead singer from Rammstein. Yes. Uh his he's got a new song called out well fuck, I don't even know how to pronounce how to pronounce it because it's in German. Ishhauskinder. Sounds very good. Ishauskinder. Um I have no idea what the fuck it means. It's a great song, and he he does some pretty wild videos himself too. So lots of yeah, the production value of these it's it's like I wonder how much money it costs to produce some of these videos that these guys that these musicians are doing.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I've noticed.
SPEAKER_04Anyways, that's those are two that kind of stood out for me this week. So um lots of other good stuff out there though.
SPEAKER_02Uh the only thing that sticks out to me in my head is Corey Taylor did a cover of Shaking by Eddie Money. Uh yeah. He released an album, I guess, last year. We talked about it quite a bit, and we'll get into more music, I promise. But um they did a bunch of uh he did like an online streaming event show and he played a bunch of shit, but he covered this song. I'll send you the link because there's a bunch of shitty videos out there, but I'll send you the link. And it's a great cover. I love Eddie Money, he has got some bangers, but the way it he sticks pretty close to the original, but it's just modernized with heavier guitars. It's it's pretty good.
SPEAKER_04Yeah. Yeah, I saw Eddie Money a couple times a long time ago. Like this is probably in the uh would I would it be the late 80s, early 90s and stuff? Yeah, because I guess I was a kind of kind of a fan of some of that stuff. So uh he died uh last year, didn't he? Or was it the year before? Like he I don't know what happened. He wasn't that old, I don't think, but he passed away.
SPEAKER_02He did.
SPEAKER_04So that kind of sucks.
SPEAKER_02Uh but um yeah, do you remember how long your hair was for the Eddie Money stuff? Did you ever have super long hair?
SPEAKER_04I had I had the hockey hair a little bit. I had a bit of a mullet way back in the uh oh yeah, back in the 80s and uh even maybe the early 90s. I I I did I did the mullet. Nice. I'm uh I'll admit it.
SPEAKER_02So do you have any photos? You gotta you gotta post them.
SPEAKER_04Oh I probably I probably burned them all. Yeah, those are those are not for anybody else to see.
SPEAKER_03Oh shit.
SPEAKER_02I have a photo of a certain radio host with a sweet mullet holding a ferret.
SPEAKER_03Really?
SPEAKER_02And uh it's one of the greatest photos of all time. I wish I could post it. He'd have a suit, and he doesn't know we all have this photo, but I have the same special file. It's the greatest photo. And one day when he has his retirement, I'm showing this photo after the fucking world.
SPEAKER_04Okay, I can't wait because I can't I cannot think of who that who that might be.
SPEAKER_02So yeah, oh that's great. It's fucking great. Right.
SPEAKER_04That sounds good. Hey, one other, a couple other oh, sorry, I should mention a video that I was gonna bring up last week. Uh this was um this is uh a band called um uh Neon Christ. And it was a band uh one of uh William Duval's original bands from like I think this was the eighties. This is some pretty hard hardcore stuff from the band he was in, one of the bands he was in uh way back then. Um they created a uh a new video. I think I think they are reissuing that album from way back then. Yeah. Uh they created a new video for one of those songs, and um they had their kids kind of in the video and stuff like that. Like, I don't know if you had a chance to watch it. I did post the link, but uh it's some pretty good stuff. Like I was I was never really familiar with some of his stuff from back then. Um at least not this band, anyways, and this is a great tune. Um great hardcore punk rock. It's uh yeah, good stuff, anyways. Uh check that out. I'll if you haven't already, but uh I'll post that link uh with our episode here when it goes up.
SPEAKER_02Uh he had this awesome band. I would say Legend of the Fall, but what was his other band before he joined a full-time member of um Alice and Chains? He actually I saw Jerry Cantrell at uh Richards on Richards, and William Duvall was he was in the back, he was one of his touring musicians back in the day before he became an official member of Alice and Chains. But they did this version of Down the Hole, and it was all dudes in that building, and everyone was crying. Oh, really? Yeah, it was um it was cool, but um yeah, he was Legends of the Fall, it was a heavy um a heavy band.
SPEAKER_04It's fucking I was looking it up now. He was in a band called Blast. Uh I have I had they reissued an album uh one of their early albums uh when he was in that band, Blast. I have that. Uh so I'm familiar with that, but I don't know. Um I'm not familiar with some of his other stuff. Uh oh I'm I'm looking it up now. It's Comes with the Fall. Is that who you're picking up? Yeah, yeah. Okay.
SPEAKER_02Yep. Uh there's Matt's.
SPEAKER_04I'm not familiar with them, but uh I'll have to check it out.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, they they kick ass. And he was also part of the uh giraffe tongue orchestra.
SPEAKER_04No idea who that is.
SPEAKER_02Um it was kind of like a it was it kind of like a hardcore band. It had um or has uh the guitarists from Mastodon in it, and it has a bunch of guys from the Dillinger Escape Plan in it, and also the Mars Volta. Yeah. Uh not my cup of tea, but I can definitely uh appreciate what they're trying to do with it. So Okay. Yeah, check that out uh if you get a moment, but check out Comes of the Fall. They kick ass. JJ from Scrape Records got me onto those guys. He's like, You like this shit? Check this out. We're trying to still try to get JJ on the show. He's the busiest guy, and I don't even know what he's doing. I think he's growing dope. But uh hopefully we'll get him on the show too. It'd be interesting because he was obviously uh owner operator of Scrape Records, which um 2015 he uh got rid of that store. So it's been six years. He works in the music interview, so be in the music industry. It'd be interesting to see what happens or what his uh viewpoints on shows and shit coming up are, and plus we're good buddies. I think we last saw him at um last time we saw him together was Zach Sabbath.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, and that's that's been well over a year, obviously. So it's been a while. I haven't uh yeah, I haven't chatted with him for a little bit. It'd be nice to catch up.
SPEAKER_02So hopefully uh we get him on here and that that'll be a long conversation, but it'll be good. He's a good guy. We have done a bunch of shows with him, so yeah, he's uh he's awesome. So we'll get there when we get there.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, maybe he's got some insight into what's uh what's happening here, you know, how things are gonna be opening up, how how concerts are are gonna be, you know, kind of happening here in Canada. Because you know, we mentioned it last week. Lots of bands are announcing tours, um, whether it be later this year or in 2022. So there's lots of shit being planned. But when you look at the tour dates, there's no Canadian dates at all. And and and of course, you know, our borders are still closed. Uh we still have our instruction, our restrictions are still in place here where things have you know pretty much opened up in the states, you know. They're you know, again, not back to normal, but they are it just seems like you know, yeah, they're getting there for sure. So um Canada's being left out, obviously, you know, when it comes to all these tours. So I wonder, you know, uh are we just gonna see some exclusive Canadian tours come up once once things open up here or or what? Because certainly Canada is is missing out on all this stuff that's that's gonna be happening here in the next say in the next year. Um and that sucks, but I mean that's the way it is, of course. So that's just what are you gonna do?
SPEAKER_02I'm just checking the uh the quickest way to find any event information because uh everything here in Canada is bullshit, but Stubhub. So the the earliest show that they have listed is Randy Bachman at uh Rogers Arena, which is for Tuesday, June fifteenth. So that's the earliest show that they have listed.
SPEAKER_04Like next like next week, then? That's what it says. I uh yeah, that's not well is that gonna happen, do you think? I don't know.
SPEAKER_02I don't think so.
SPEAKER_04I don't think so either. I mean, even if they even if they do move to this next round uh of opening or whatever whatever it is you want to call it, I don't know that it's going to allow for concerts to take place. Yeah. Maybe if it was September and things go good, then yes, but I don't know that it's gonna happen.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, they say September 7th is when concerts can start happening again.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_02So that doesn't make any sense to me. So that's that's where it goes. So anything after September 7th, uh as according to our provincial health leader, uh Dr. Bonnie Henry, uh September 7th is the earliest we can get concerts going. So it's uh we'll see kind of see what happens. But every there's a lot of like uh Vancouver Canadian games listed on here.
SPEAKER_04Okay.
SPEAKER_02But uh as far as shows, the first one after there's there's nothing on stub up. Yeah. Uh so that's uh that's interesting.
SPEAKER_04Interesting, yeah, for sure.
SPEAKER_02Interesting. Oh well. Where do you go to? But um, who knows? And to be honest with you, I tried to buy Billy Alish tickets um like two weeks ago because I signed up for the verified thing, but they were sold out. Obviously, she's one of the biggest artists in the world right now, but they're sold out in 33 seconds. And that's with even the uh Ticketmaster verified fan bullshit. You have to go through that.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Uh so I couldn't get onto that, and they're gone. So and her good for her, her full entire world tour is sold out. Every single date, multiple dates in the cities are sold out. So, I mean, good for her, but um I think that's a sign of things to come. Like anything, any metal band or any band that comes through town, because people are so deprived for live music, and it's been a year and a half, close to two years, everything's gonna sell out super quick. So get ready for that.
SPEAKER_04Whereas so were you trying for tickets to her show here or in Seattle? Or like is there a tour date for Vancouver? Yes.
SPEAKER_02Oh, there is March 29th, uh, or March something, 2022.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_02So yeah, but that's 2022, like we talked about earlier. So who knows what what's gonna happen. But I think you're right. I think a lot of these artists who haven't announced dates uh in Canada yet are gonna come out here and do a Canadian run and stuff. So that'll be uh that'll be good.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, for sure. Easy. Good. We'll see what happens. You got anything else you want to talk about? Uh let's see. No, I uh no, I don't. Well, okay, so maybe just to tie things back together here, I'll just mention real quick some some we were talking about movies and TV shows and stuff like that, and last week I said there was some it looked like there were some awesome Korean shows um that have come out. And uh I'll list some of them here. I don't I haven't watched any of them yet, but they look and sound really good. So uh if you want to check them out or if uh our audience wants to have a look and if they watch anything, let us know what they think of them. But uh to me, some of these shows, uh a couple of them that that uh stood out for me from you know from when I looked into them. One of them is called Dark Hole, um, let's see, Law School, Mouse, Taxi Driver sounded really good, Undercover, uh Vincento is another one. And like there's probably I've got a list here of at least um 16 or 18 shows and stuff like that. They're all Korean, they're all recent, you know, that came out within the last year or two. Um yeah, just it just sounds like South Korea is really pumping out a lot of a lot of film and TV and stuff like that. And you know, as we saw with uh their recent uh success at the Oscars and such and some of the other awards, you know, it sounds like you know, they might be worth checking out.
SPEAKER_02So that's awesome. That is awesome. And as always, Steven does an awesome job on our own webpage. You can check all the stuff out we talk about at uh old men who yell at clouds.com.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, the last thing I want to mention real quick, and I'm not gonna get into a big discussion about this, uh, because I'm far from an expert. It's something I'm trying to learn about uh along the way. And like I said, you you I think everybody else needs to learn about this too. You're never too old, and I think we all need to understand what is happening here in Canada right now. Um it is National Indig Indigenous History Month. Um so we are commemorating uh um this month, June 2021, to you know, recognize the history, heritage, and diversity of First Nations, Inuit and Metis peoples in Canada. And um you know, uh I I do work for a nonprofit First Nations First Nations organization. Uh I'm learning lots along the way. I I just it's such a small piece of uh that history here in Canada. And uh I'm I do I am hoping that I am helping First Nations across Canada, Indigenous peoples, and you know, hopefully making a difference. Um but it's you know this this I I guess the recent news um uh out of Kamloops is really it makes me sad, it makes me angry, uh so many different emotions, and uh I obviously cannot imagine what these people are feeling themselves and what they've gone through over the hundreds of years. Um and I think it's you know, and mo and you know what? I think most a lot of people like like I was never taught this stuff in school. That that's the really sad thing. I was never taught about you know, whenever they taught talked about um, you know, history in Canada, it was always the English and the French and uh, you know, these explorers and stuff like that. Very rarely, and and it was never in detail, they never talked about really what happened here, and you know, they never talked about the Indian Act, and they never talked about you know really what happened with these people and what they were trying to do to these people. Um and it's really sad. And if they aren't teaching it if they still aren't teaching it in schools now, then shame on our education systems. Because it's this needs to be talked about. It needs to be learned by everybody. And we need to try and understand at least a little bit even as to what they're going through. And we need and we need to we need to fix it. We need to fix the system. Saying sorry is not going to fix the system. And um sorry just doesn't cut it. And it so it really pisses me off that that they are still struggling, they are still experiencing uh these issues even today, obviously, racism and all that kind of stuff. Yep. And so so again, I'm far from an expert, and I'm not going to try and be an expert, but I am going to try and learn and listen and understand, and I'll do whatever I can to help these people out because they they they deserve better. So I'll I'll leave it at that. I I am again, we're not the go-to place for information, but if you know, like we did with Black Lives Matter and stuff like that, I I did add some links to our website. Uh we're not the go-to place, but if our listeners and family and friends and stuff like that do want to check out some stuff, uh I'll be posting some like some resources and stuff like that. Awesome. And you know, again, it it's part of it's part of all of us learning because um you know there was this report, this uh reconciliation report and stuff that came out, you know, it's probably been a half dozen years or something already. And it just you know, there's a bunch of recommendations that are have been made, and it's just you know, it's just there's no progress. It's just like it's you know, everybody knows we need to do these things, but they're not happening. So anyway, that's that's all I got.
SPEAKER_02No, I agree with everything you just said, and um, you know, Canada's far from perfect. Everyone thinks that Canada's a perfect little country. We're not. There's a dark history, there's uh, you know, it's it's just it's bad. And you're right, everything should be taught. And if you want to come and talk about it, if you have any information or whatever, feel free to contact us. We'll get you on. We have no problem. We'll talk to it. I'll talk to a fucking mug for 15 minutes. Just come on our show, let's go. Uh let us know how he what you we can do and how we can help, and how listeners can help and and and what's going on and moving forward that way. So yeah, get in touch with us.
SPEAKER_04For sure, for sure. Like you and you said it best, you know, Canada. We we we talk about other countries and some of the shit that goes on in the states and and elsewhere, and you know, and that's all fine, but you know what, we have to look in our own backyard because it's a pretty dark fucking history. It's really it's really awful. And we have to start thinking about fixing things here. Uh, we can't forget about everybody out there. Uh everybody needs help. Um but we have to we have to start looking out for our own here and and doing something about it and fixing things. So Yep.
