Why would you want to listen to two old guys yelling at clouds? And the worst thing? One of them likes the Boston Bruins. Oh, you suck! Like, really likes them. Like, sleeps in their jersey. Anyways, if you're still listening, here are Adam and Steven.
SPEAKER_03Yes, welcome out to it, another episode of Old Man Who Yell at Clouds. We are episode 68. It is May the 30th, and I have, of course, joined by Steven. Hello, Steven. Hello, Adam. How are you doing? It's good. You know, today was supposed to be a glorious weekend. It's still warm as hell outside, but it is um it's cloudy and over here in the Delta. What's it like in the heart of Vancouver?
SPEAKER_01It is uh it is cloudy here too. Uh it was spitting a little bit earlier, and you know, nothing major. I was out for a skate and it uh I felt a few little raindrops on them on my way back, and um yeah, I don't know. It's it was it didn't impede my progress in any way. Of course, if once the pathways get really slippery, it's uh uh those roller skates just uh or the blades just don't work very well on wet asphalt. No, not at all. Or wet pavement. Uh so but no, it was fine. And uh I think it's supposed to be up to twenty today. I think midweek it's supposed to be pretty good out there. So we're we're kind of in later spring, and it's supposed to be a hot summer, they're saying. That's what I've read. That's what I've heard.
SPEAKER_03So Well, I've already had I have to turn on my air conditioner every night because my room turns into an oven.
SPEAKER_01Already, eh? Okay.
SPEAKER_03So it's gonna be warm, and just before we start today's podcast, I helped my dad bring the air conditioners up for the house.
SPEAKER_02Oh, right.
SPEAKER_03So we have one in the main living room to keep the house cool. He has one in his master mad cave downstairs, and there's one in the kitchen to keep the dog cool.
SPEAKER_01Wow, hey, you gotta take care of the dog, right?
SPEAKER_03So that's and that to be honest, that was the first one that was up. And then uh I was still broken foot when mine came up. I couldn't move, but my room was an oven. And my dad came in here for like a minute, he's like, it's like 15 degrees hotter in my room than the rest of the house. He's like, what the hell's going on? I'm like, welcome to summer.
SPEAKER_01So it's it's the computer hardware, it's the fucking sex lights, and whatever else goes on in there each and every day and night. So I can uh I uh I can understand that. I don't really want to know any more information, but yeah, I I get it.
SPEAKER_03Welcome to the Fab Cave.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, yeah. And your hydro bill must be fucking through the roof in the summertime if you've got three air conditioners going.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, well, the only ones, it's only um it's just at nighttime. So they do it's the because the house is actually pretty cool during the daytime, but now it's like it's 2.40 in the afternoon. Technically, it's I'm learning 14 or 24 hour time, so it's 1440. Um the place where I work, it would say the new job of employment, which I'll get into in a couple minutes, but the it you have to pronounce it's 24-hour time and you have to do it digit by digits. So 2.30 would be uh 0230, but it has to be 14 hour time, 14 or 24-hour time, which is 1441, because it needs to be precise radio communication.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_03And I was like, Jesus, I'm so confused. But uh we're getting there. One uh one day at a time.
SPEAKER_01That's good. I learned that 24-hour time many, many years ago when I was working as a paramedic, uh, so doing my training and all that kind of stuff. We um for obvious reasons, again, just as you're finding out, uh yeah, it was very important to be accurate. And uh yeah, I learned the 24 hour clock. Uh yeah, so fuck. Uh I don't know what's what is that? Uh 40 years ago, I fucking learned that. Almost 40 years ago. Yeah, it's yeah, it's been that long. Holy shit. See, I'm old. Um, and you know what? Ever since then, I've used it all the time. Like on my on my um on my computer here. It's uh like I switch everything over. On my phone, I use the 24 hour clock. So yeah. It's you once you once you learn it, it's easy and you get used to it and you and you might actually prefer it.
SPEAKER_03So Yeah, so I'm at this page where I don't like it yet. So on my phone I have it as 24 hour time, but on my watch I still have it as uh 12 hour.
SPEAKER_02Okay.
SPEAKER_03So I l and plus I still get confused. Like I always get confused around eight o'clock.
SPEAKER_01It just doesn't work. Yeah, but eight o'clock's the easy one, that because that's a 20. I mean 20. You just add 12 hours, right? So yeah, 1 p.m. Add 12, it's 1300 hours. Or for you, it's 1300.
SPEAKER_031300. Yes. Did you have to communicate like that in the pyramidic days?
SPEAKER_01Uh yes, I did, yeah. Like in all of our uh reports and uh and and everything, um over the radio and stuff like that. And of course you use the um what is the uh I forget what that is. What's you know yeah I used to know the alphabets, the phonetic alphabet, is that what it's called? Yeah. Like alpha, Charlie, Delta, Echo, Echo, Foxtrot, uh, what's G? Golf. Uh yep. I think it's golf. Yeah. I don't know. I can't remember what H is.
SPEAKER_03H is hotel.
SPEAKER_01Hotel. Ah, see. I do forget some of those. I used to know them all. Obviously, I used them all the time too. So um, but yeah, I can't remember some of them.
SPEAKER_03F is Foxtrot. Yeah. Uh what else do they have? A F is a golf, hotel. I is India, J is Juliet's.
SPEAKER_01See, those two I forget. I don't know why. India, Juliet.
SPEAKER_03Uh K is Kilo.
SPEAKER_01Kilo, yeah.
SPEAKER_03Uh L is uh Lima.
SPEAKER_01Lima, yeah.
SPEAKER_03M is Mike.
SPEAKER_01Mike. I forgot Mike.
SPEAKER_03Uh what's N? N is November.
SPEAKER_01November. O is Oscar. Oscar.
SPEAKER_03P is what? Do you remember?
SPEAKER_01I do not remember P.
SPEAKER_03Uh Papa.
SPEAKER_01Papa, fuck.
SPEAKER_03Uh Q is Quebec. Quebec. R is what? R is an easy one. Rhymes with Juliet. Another mythical creature or a mythical dude. Monsieur Romeo.
SPEAKER_01Romeo, fuck. See? So yeah, there's these later ones. Uh there's yeah. Yeah. S. What I even forget S. Fuck.
SPEAKER_03Uh S is Sierra.
SPEAKER_01Sierra Tango. Yep.
SPEAKER_03Um U is something you have to wear. It's not underwear. Oh, nope. But something else. If you you're required to wear this sometimes before you go, you have to be wearing proper a proper what to go to some works. I need to wear this before I go into work. A uniform.
SPEAKER_01Uniform. Okay. V is Victor, yeah. That one.
SPEAKER_03W is a drink. What's W?
SPEAKER_01Water. Whiskey. Oh, whiskey. Is it whiskey? Yes, whiskey, of course.
SPEAKER_03Uh X is X is X-ray.
SPEAKER_01Yep. Y is baseball team. Yankee. Yep. And then Zulu. Yeah.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. So you did pretty good. You only fobbed up on like six.
SPEAKER_01Well, no, I fucked up on probably half of them.
SPEAKER_03So you're 12 for 12. Or 12 for 24. That's not bad. So yeah, one of our very first tests I had to do on my new job was learn the phonetic alphabet. So I kind of got it down now.
SPEAKER_01Oh, okay. So yeah, you do all those. I'm glad I brought it up. I'm glad I brought it up. You can review your your own test results because it's important for you to know that now. And B if B, fuck, it doesn't matter.
SPEAKER_03So theoretically, so let's talk about my new job. So I'm training to become a uh equipment slash customer service rep for something I'm not really allowed to talk about, but I can kind of have to talk about it, which is weird. So I've done all of my uh core training. I've done two I've done three final exams. So one of the final exams was the actual final, so it tests you on the theory that you've learned so far. So it's it was 81 questions, it was multiple choice, it took about 45 minutes to write.
SPEAKER_04Okay.
SPEAKER_03Uh so that was that was kind of stressful. Then the next one was a switch test. I have to learn how to read switches. Uh so they track switches to learn if it's if you're you're gonna derail a train or derail any equipment if you have to take it out on spot. So that test took an hour and forty-five minutes. It was 28 questions, but it was weirded very poorly. Yeah. So and they would show you a photo, but they wouldn't tell you where you were coming. So the first time I actually wrote it, I failed it.
SPEAKER_02Okay.
SPEAKER_03Because it was just it was fucked up and the the questions were all screwed up, whatever it was. So this you get three chances to write any of these exams. So, except for the last one, which I'll talk about in a second. So I had to go in and I had to rewrite the test, obviously, and it took me forever. But when I rewrote it and took my time to slow it down and did it, I got 100%. But I only it only took the like but I was doubting everything because when the I asked for clarification on the question because they it rewords it, whatever it was, and it was re-worded poorly, uh poorly. So when the instructor came up to me and read it, she's like, she read it in a way that still didn't make sense, and then I read it in a way, responded in a way, because she can't obviously give me the answer, but I'm trying to rephrase it so I get it. And I said it in the way that I was thinking in my head, and she goes, and the answer I had selected, she's like, Well, now the all these answers don't make sense. So she had to go get clarification from the instructor.
SPEAKER_01Oh, I see. So yeah, so they realized then that things were not worded very well, and they were confusing for not just you, but likely other people.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. And so uh in my class, there's four of us, and we all well, the first time round, we all got that question wrong because it was worded poorly.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_03But when that she came and rephrased it, and I gave her my thing, and she gave it her boss came in and actually talked to me. So the the head instructor came in and rephrased it in a way that I got it, so I got it right away.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_03But it's the the phrasing on it can make such a difference.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_03And then my third final exam was an actual practical test. So I had to physically drive the um the vehicles. I had to uh learn how to identify a certain door fault, and then I had to uh show the practicality is if one of the vehicles lost power, I had to go to a different vehicle and do all the steps that it would take to recouple the vehicle to a working vehicle and then pull or push the vehicle depending on the spot on the guideway.
SPEAKER_02Okay.
SPEAKER_03So that that practical test took three hours.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. Wow.
SPEAKER_03And it's not it's not like that I'm working for three hours of like stress, but it takes some time to set up those scenarios. So they have to set it up for all of us. So um that's all done. So the hard, the heavy lifting is done, but in two weeks I'm gonna have a 250, which is more practical stuff, and it's gonna be more uh theory stuff. So again, it's I'm still studying week and study a week and study a week for the next two weeks.
SPEAKER_02Wow.
SPEAKER_03And then after that, I'm a qualified employee. I'm gonna be out on the line doing my thing. And then, but then to be a hundred percent fully qualified employee, I have a 500 hour test, which is in 500 hours from when I start in two weeks, which will be around November, December.
SPEAKER_01So is that is that an actual test, or that's just your practicum time, I guess? Yeah, it's the it's it's more work work experience and practicum. Yeah.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. So it's more work experience into actual day-to-day operations on the field.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_03But again, it's all vehicle maintenance stuff because we're not going to get it all the day, but a lot of this stuff, I wish I could just tell what it is, but a lot of the stuff is uh customer service based. Yeah. So they want you to do it in a like that you have to be able to solve, get on the train, read it, solve it, and get the train moving within like two minutes, two to four minutes, depending on the problem.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_03So you're on the button because it's customer service based.
SPEAKER_01Okay.
SPEAKER_03So uh I've been really occupied with that this week, but the heavy lifting of it's done, so that's alright. How's your week been?
SPEAKER_01Oh, good for you. Sounds like it's going well. My week has been okay. It was a short week for me because I had the Tuesday off. Monday was stat. Tuesday I I was off. I um so short work week. It went pretty good. Um I'm pretty busy as always. Yeah. Uh a couple things going on. I I I don't know if I need to get into details, but I've been uh accepted into a study for um I I think I've mentioned that I've got a little bit of a cardiac condition or like I've got a heart history. It's nothing major that's gonna kill me or anything like that. But uh essentially what happens is my my heart rate can elevate quickly to a like to 200 beats a minute, for example.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Um just like out of the blue, there's triggers like alcohol, caffeine, uh, stress, a whole bunch of things that can kind of kick that off. So uh I've had this for quite a few years. It's it's it's enough that it's a pain in the ass, really more than anything. Again, it's not gonna kill me. Other people are worse where they get this daily. And and for those people, you know, sometimes treatments just don't work. There's medications that don't work for them, and it's it's a real pain in the ass. Obviously, at that point, it would affect your daily life, right?
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_01And what they would do is they would give you an ablation where they would go in with a catheter through your uh through your groin, guide it up into your heart, and what they would do is they would basically try and find that area of your heart that is initiating this um what do you want to call it? This arrhythmia, I guess.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_01And they what they would do is uh because basically you have a pacemaker in your upper chambers. What happens is with some people is that there is sort of a secondary or another pacemaker that and an open gate that would basically trigger and your heart rate would just go through the roof through the roof. Yeah. So they would try and find that sort of that bad area, and if they found it, they would cauterize it. So basically they would kind of kill the heart's uh the pacemaker cells in that little area of your heart. Wow. And it's so it's fairly invasive. Uh it sounds like it's fairly successful, but there's higher risks, of course. It's you know, you're not put out, it's not like it's a regular surgical procedure, but it's still surgery, sort of. Uh, and I'm trying to avoid that. So um so there's a study, medications haven't worked for me in the past or anything like that. So what there I I've agreed to and I've been accepted to for this study, it's basically a medication, it's a common medication, but it's a new way of delivering it. It's basically a puffer. No, sorry, it's not a puffer, it's a nasal spray. So whenever whenever I get an episode, one of these episodes, I would try and um uh I would try and fix it, I guess, with certain maneuvers that that I usually do. Um and most times they are successful. Um they're called Valsalva maneuvers. There's different things that you can do, and basically it can basically slow your heart rate back down to normal.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Uh if those don't work, then I try this uh I try this nasal spray. So uh it's something I've been accepted to. I had an appointment last week. Um I was approved on Friday, so I gotta go in this coming week and get all of the further instructions and the medication and and all this kind of stuff. So it's uh uh hey, I'm willing to help out. Number one, I mean it's is yes, it's a study, it's it's it's medication and a delivery of that medication that has not been approved yet here in Canada. But I don't think it's that dangerous. Uh certainly there are side effects like there is with any medication. Yeah. But uh hey, if it's gonna help me, um, because again, it's an inconvenience more than anything, but if it does help me whenever I get these episodes, um then great. And of course, if it helps with the study and helps them determine uh uh whether or not the uh medication can eventually be approved here in Canada, then then then hey, great, why not? So that's something yeah, that's something that's going on with me. Kind of boring old man shit. But no, that's good though.
SPEAKER_03I mean you're on the positive track, and whatever you do, it might yours might be the award-winning study to approve it in Canada. So if you can relieve one person with whatever's going on, that's that's great news.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, because uh like like I said, myself, it's not that big of a deal, but I know that there are people out there who their heart rate is a lot higher, if you can believe it. Uh like mine's 200, and that's pretty fucking high. Some people some people go up to 240, 250. And fuck uh yeah. Like I it for me, it's for for me, I don't really get any symptoms. Like I get maybe a little lightheaded. I have one fucking hell of a headache after. Uh but um, you know, other people of course, you like you can you can pass out, uh some people probably have pain or shortness of breath. Yeah, like everybody's different. So for me, it's no big deal. But if you're one of those other people that get it often and have a higher heart rate, uh a faster heart rate, then it's gotta be shitty for you for sure. So um hopefully this stuff is gonna help for me and help other people.
SPEAKER_03So No, that's awesome.
SPEAKER_01That's kind of my my big news, uh I guess for the week. So uh nothing else is going on, man. It's uh hey, it's it's my eight weeks. My eight weeks is up for uh they've changed I don't know if we talked about this last week. They've changed the vaccination schedule here in BC.
SPEAKER_03Oh, okay, yeah, yes. I remember reading that, but so you're good.
SPEAKER_01So uh I what they're saying now is that if you um well basically it's cut down to eight weeks. So I think there were two reasons for them for it to be twelve weeks, because they said they wanted to wait uh that period of time between your first and second dose. Uh no, there were two reasons. One is because um they wanted to spread the vaccines out so that as many people as possible could get their first uh first dose. Yeah. But then there was research or there were some uh studies that have shown that the longer you wait between doses, the more effective it is. So uh so those there were those two things. Um but it sounds like now they've reduced it to eight weeks uh because there is supply now. That's that's a major reason why. There is supply, and um it sounds like eight weeks is still pretty effective between your doses. So anyway, I'm waiting for uh for a text or a message uh so I can schedule my second dose. So that's gonna be kind of nice to get out of the way. So we'll see what happens.
SPEAKER_03Uh my old man actually just got his text two days ago, so he scheduled his second dose for the uh 15th of June.
SPEAKER_01Oh, okay.
SPEAKER_03So he's two weeks out.
SPEAKER_01When did he get dose number one? I'm just curious.
SPEAKER_03He got it eight, he got a three-day we got a week before, so the first week of April, I think.
SPEAKER_01Okay, so around around the same time that we got our first dose. See, he's higher risk, right? He they know he's he's like he's higher risk, so that's why they are doing all of those people first, as they should. Yeah. Um, so that's that's good news, yeah. So that's a couple weeks away, that's not so bad. That's not too bad.
SPEAKER_03Uh then you're the following week, and I was the week after you. Okay So my shot was uh April the 8th.
SPEAKER_01Okay. Yeah, we were April 1st, yeah. Yeah. Or I was April 1st, uh Teresa April 2nd.
SPEAKER_03So Yeah, that's not bad. Uh was April the 8th, my sister was the seventh, and my mom was the ninth.
SPEAKER_02Okay.
SPEAKER_03So we're all in theory, we should get our text or whatever it is uh moving forward.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_03But um uh I was reading I was uh you know on the shitter reading Twitter and uh I saw one of your tweets about this BC medical uh report card. Or what's it called? Report card? Services card.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, it's it's um well basically it's yeah, it's your BC ID card, basically. So it does go off of your driver's license and your um your healthcare card. Uh it's basic it's it's it all of those are linked to BC, your BC ID card, or is that what it's called? I think, yeah.
SPEAKER_03So um so I signed up, I'm good to go. Did you sign up for it already?
SPEAKER_01Yeah, so I signed up right away because I was curious about it. I was wondering exactly what it was, because uh we've talked a lot about vaccine passports or vaccine certifications, as a lot of people are talking uh are m use using or calling them now. Um So I was I was curious as to what information they I was uh the what what they had, like what so what information could I find there? Yeah uh is it actually a passport or a certificate of some kind? Uh what's it all about, right? So uh so yeah, I I signed up and everything like that. I got it all working, and I actually did go in and check my records or at least what's there right now. Uh I don't think I don't think everything is there yet. Um and it's not a passport or a certificate, although I was able to see my see and download if I wanted to my first dose. Like they actually had that in the list. Oh, cool. Uh like all my doctor visits are in there and everything like that. And uh so I was actually able to see on April 1st that yes, I did get my dose number one. It does let you download a I don't think it's a certificate, but it does let you download something to indicate that you did get your first dose. Uh I'm sure there's gonna be something similar for dose number two.
unknownUh-huh.
SPEAKER_01But again, I I don't think it's anything that's really been approved yet for you know, obviously there's talk about, you know, when you travel and if you need to prep, you know, show your certificate when you want to enter into a concert venue or something like that. So I don't know that that's what this is for at this point. So we'll see.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. We'll see what happens.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_03Uh but yeah, I'm up and running too. I actually haven't had a chance to check my records or anything like that. But I I do want to th cause it's cool and it's helpful to have and I I mean I think you could do that before, couldn't you?
SPEAKER_01You could log in and figure out your your records and stuff before or is that well I don't I actually I don't know. Uh maybe if you if you were able to I I I did not know about it. So you but what they're planning on doing is I think they're planning on transferring all of your uh medications and all of your test results, like your lab results. Yeah because right now it's through Life Labs. Like if you have a Life Labs account, uh you can all go in and log in there and view all of your test results instead of waiting to go see your doctor and all that kind of shit. So you can do that, but I think what they're doing is they want to combine all that, which I think is a good idea. I don't think life labs should I know that they are the third party that does all the testing here for most people in BC. I and of course there was the Life Labs breach that happened what a year ago. Was a year ago? It wasn't that long ago, and it was pretty significant pretty significant breach. Um I again when it comes to personal health data, uh personal data of any kind, but when it comes to my health data, I would you know obviously it's gotta be centralized and it's gotta be protected properly. And maybe if it's going to be transferred to the government site uh that's probably a better thing. Yes, they maybe they are still open to hacking and all that kind of shit, but you know, hopeful hopefully they got their everything set up correctly and but it's more centralized, so it's it's all in one location. Is that good or bad? I don't know, but at least it's the government in this case and not third a private third party company.
SPEAKER_03So yeah, and the um the BC Services app is a government app as well, so and it looks like it's working for you, which is awesome, and and that's kind of what we need.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, for sure. So we'll see what happens down the road with when it comes to vaccinations, so um, yeah.
SPEAKER_03Um I do want to touch on the friends reunion with you.
SPEAKER_02Oh fuck.
SPEAKER_03So did you ever so I was actually I didn't uh it was like it wasn't really in my time that I didn't really watch it live, but I went back and watched all of the episodes, and I've seen all the episodes a thousand times. One, there's some of them were pretty funny. Uh I don't mind the show. It is what it is. Sitcom, you know, one of the glorious sitcoms. I do like the Friends more than Office. The Office, I'm one of those guys, but um I haven't watched the reunion yet. I have it acquired, I'm good to go. Uh, but I'll I to be honest with you, uh, yesterday was date night, and uh so we could get together to do some things. And nice. Um but I'm like, do you want to watch the Friends Reunion? And she goes, Well, it's an hour and 45 minutes long. I mean, that's a long fucking time. What are they gonna talk about for an hour and 45 minutes?
SPEAKER_02I'm like, yeah, yeah, I don't know.
SPEAKER_03She's like, I'd rather get drunk and watch Marvel movies. I'm like, okay, let's do that instead. So that's what we did anyways. But so I will watch it at some at some point this week. Uh, but um what I did you watch, like have you okay? Let's let's preface this by have you watched any other reunions? Did you watch the Fresh Prince reunion? Did you watch the Mash reunion?
SPEAKER_01No, I I no I didn't. So maybe that's why I think it's just fucking crazy, or it's just I don't know. It's I think it's just stupid. But but okay, so okay, so I I did watch some of Friends way back, I think, when it was uh when it was you know released whatever. No, before before syndication, I did watch it. Yeah, so I I was never a big fan of the show, I think, and I didn't get why people just love that show so much. Because it's huge, it is, it really is. Um you know, people people talk about it uh all the time, and I I guess that's why I just I have no interest at all. Because like, like why? Like they're just a bunch of like after all of these years, especially, like who cares about these whiny, snively characters from like 20 years ago or whatever it is, or 25 years ago. Like how long, how long has it been? How when was the last episode of Friends?
SPEAKER_03I think it was 1994 to 200 or 2004.
SPEAKER_01Okay, so it's it's been gone for at least 15 years then. Like, so it's been in syndication for that long. So like, so why would I want to like fucking what's his name? Not not Joey, uh Matthew Perry? Well, no, they're there are characters, um Ross, Joey, and Chandler. Joey, yeah. Like, fuck man, like, like who cares? I I don't get it, okay? Yeah. Now, now, hey, uh, if if somebody's interested in it, it's like go ahead. Like, it's just like it's just not my thing, though. Yeah, of course. Uh even though I watched some of it. Hey, I'll admit that I watched 90210. Yes, we should have to be. I watched I watched Melrose Place. Uh they were probably they were pretty popular shows, but probably not as popular as Friends. So uh, you know, I get that. But why would I want to watch a 902-10 reunion? Like, fuck. Like, who cares? Like, after all these years, I don't give a shit. Nope. Uh, so that's that's why. Like, there's so much more to watch. There's so many more better ways, in my opinion, that you could be spending your time. So fuck off with a frenzy reunion. Like, yeah.
SPEAKER_03Uh I I will watch it at some point this week and I'll report back. Like, I hope it's just good. Like, I know they do like I've seen some of the clips and stuff, and they have a bunch of guest stars and stuff come by, the sad and whatever it is. But I was like, I just hope it's good in entertainment and doesn't, you know, tarnish the image. I mean, it was pretty good. I mean, like every show it has some shitty episodes, but like every show it has some really funny episodes. So I hope they just do some things and because the chemistry is what made the show, I think. And um we'll we'll just kind of see what happens moving forward. Uh at least they're not trying to reboot it or anything like that. Um did you ever watch Saved by the Bell?
SPEAKER_01Uh no, I didn't. Obviously, I'm familiar with it. Um I think I was a little well, I don't know. I don't know if I I should say that I was a little bit older, maybe. Like it came out kind of a little bit later on, I guess. So uh so it's not a show I really got into.
SPEAKER_03Well, they they reboot the shit out of it, but a couple of the characters came back, but and there it was their sons and daughters who were going to the school, which was Bayside, but what a piece of shit show that was.
SPEAKER_02Was it? Oh okay.
SPEAKER_03Um tarnished the image, like it tarnished what I remembered from the classic stuff. And the classic episodes were funny and they were good, and yeah. Uh at the time they were cutting edge, like really like the drug dependencies and doing drugs and and stuff touching that you wouldn't normally get on. Same with the your 90210s and your Melbourne's places of the world. At the time, yeah, what they were doing in the writing was so good that it was not only was it a you know quote unquote soap opera, but it was still a cool show to watch and be entertained by. So I thought that was kind of cool. But this new show is the shits, don't watch it, moving forward. Alright.
SPEAKER_02Okay.
SPEAKER_03Um another question I did. You buy your new phone?
SPEAKER_01I did not. I'm I'm really struggling with it. Um I even went as far as uh loading everything into my cart. I did that twice. Like I was and I entered my credit card number and everything like that, and I was about to push the buy now or purchase button or whatever it is. I'm having a hard time, man. I just I I just it's because like as I said last week, it's the system now is so different than it used to be when it comes to purchasing these these new phones. If like if you can't purchase it outright, which is a shitload of money, then you've got to do these monthly plans and to bring it back, and you know, so so your our monthly bill would jump probably um probab let's see, probably close to would it be fifty bucks more for the two of us? Um which doesn't sound that bad, but the thing is after two years you still don't own the phone.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Right? And and it this is this is all new to us. Like we've never had to like normally like like our phone, once the contract ended, like it's my phone, like I own it, right? So all of this, and we and we went through the two-year thing too, like and uh you know, but we got such we didn't have to pay a monthly fee for the phones. We we did end up buying them outright, so signing a two-year plan, or see uh two-year data plant, of course. Yeah. Um but yeah, it's it like it's totally different now. So yeah, it's it's just I'm I'm struggling. And the main thing is because we don't really need them at this point. Yeah, right. Like there's our old phones are still working pretty good. The batteries are still decent, which is the most important thing. Um, you know, there's no damage to them or anything like that. Like everything's running well. So that's why I'm the other the other thing with these new Samsung phones, the uh S21 series, um number one is they do not come with a power brick.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, none of them do anymore.
SPEAKER_01Um now you can use your old ones, of course, and they work fine. So so uh that's not such a big deal. What is a big deal though is they do not come with the headphone jack. Let they've copied Apple now.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Uh so I have wireless headphones, which I'm sure would work out fine. But you know, we'd have to, you know, so there's an extra cost there though. So we would have to purchase headphones or wireless earbuds or whatever it is, um for my wife at least, if I wanted earbuds. Uh I don't I'm not a big fan of earbuds because the fit typically is not all that great. Uh so I'd rather just wear headphones, I guess. So and these would work out fine. But but it anyways, it is an for at her at least it's an extra cost. And you know, let's say uh even a half decent pair of earbuds is a hundred bucks.
SPEAKER_03Yep.
SPEAKER_01Um yeah, so it's just I'm I'm yeah, so no new phones at this point. I'm still struggling, I'm still thinking about it. Maybe next week we'll I'll have some other news to report. Maybe I'll cave and just do it, or maybe I'll just say fuck it, wait till the fall time or something. I don't know.
SPEAKER_03So if it's fifty bucks a month for two years, that's fifty. What's that math-wise? Is it cheaper just to buy them outright so you own the phone? Like that's how it worked out for me. It was cheaper for me to buy the fucking stupid phone that was fifteen hundred bucks, and I was good, and I had to pay a premium on it, I didn't have to do anything on it.
SPEAKER_01So no, that's so at this point, no, because actually Samsung or TELUS just dropped the prices that that monthly fee, they just dropped that for um uh for the Samsungs. And if uh if I were to buy it outright right now, like it would cost me like fuck, those phones are like eighteen hundred bucks or nineteen hundred bucks or something like that. Yeah uh if I were to purchase if I was to to do the two-year plan, um I would save, uh I'm looking at the the notes I took, I would probably save seven or eight hundred bucks.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_01So even even even even after paying after two years, if you wanted to keep the phone, you have to pay, well, in this case, I would have to pay six hundred and ten bucks. To keep the phone. To keep the phone. So even even including that, I would still save about um about eight hundred bucks doing it this way. Yeah, so that's good. So so it's it's still it's still a deal, I guess, but it's just it's still not the way it used to be.
SPEAKER_03Like I the phone like the Samsung Galaxy 21S Ultra 5G phone is $2,125.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_03That is fucking expensive. I don't how much is my fucking phone? So I bought a phone and a new Apple Watch that day. Oh, yeah, I was gonna ask you, do you wear any uh wearable tech like no T oh so would you be would you buy one of those? Maybe buy yourself a Galaxy watch to keep track of um what you're doing. Do you skate with your phone?
SPEAKER_01Yes, I do. Yeah.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. So I've got the his the health, I use the health app and stuff like that, and everything's on my phone. I'm never I'm not a big watch guy. That's that's the thing. I if I want to I've got my phone with me all the time, I'll pull up my phone if I want to know the time. Yeah. And everything else is there that I would that would I would typically need. So I'm not a big phone, I'm not a big uh watch guy. I haven't worn a watch in in years. So um yeah, so that's why the you know the the fitness bands and the smart watches, yeah, they don't really have I'm not really interested.
SPEAKER_03They do have these uh fitness rings now.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I saw those.
SPEAKER_03So you put the ring on, it detects it and it has GPS, so it detects your so that I mean it's pretty it's a thick ring, obviously, but the inside tech for those are pretty sweet. Yeah. But uh back to phone. So the phone, like your phone, like the the phone that I purchased was uh $15.49 plus tax. So I don't remember what that was, but then I bought a watch on top of it. So it was an expensive birthday this year for me. But your phone off the top is $21.25. So I think that's what I paid for both. Yeah. So Jesus fuck, that's an expensive phone.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, it's uh it's it's pretty crazy. Um I'm just trying to bring it up here right now. Obviously, there's let's see. It says it says the retail price on the TELUS website. The retail price is 1960 for this Samsung S21 Ultra. Yeah, that's 1960. So plus tax? Um plus tax. That's the that's the retail price, yes. Yeah. Yeah. So yeah, that's like well shit. I don't know. What's that? 2300 2400 bucks or something like that with tax. I don't know.
SPEAKER_03That's like the like we were talking about last week. That's like the that's a new laptop. That's a new XPS 18, 19, whatever it is now.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_03Wow.
SPEAKER_01But I mean so anyway, that's so you could see why I'm struggling. If if hey, if we needed these phones, if the batteries really sucked, if it was time, then fuck, I would just break down and do it.
SPEAKER_02But yeah.
SPEAKER_01I'm struggling right now. Uh there, I guess there the thing is there will come a day when either I break down first or else we will actually need new phones. But you know, do I wait? Do I wait for the S22s or whatever they're gonna be called next year?
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Um, technology's changing all the time. They might have some different camera features or something like that. Who knows? They might be better phones. Or they or they may just be a like a really just a like a simple upgrade, the latest processor and something, things that we probably wouldn't really notice that much of a difference, right?
SPEAKER_03So just a brand new shiny dick.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, exactly. Um yeah, we'll see. I'll report back if uh if I break down and spend some some money here.
SPEAKER_03See the difference between like say I was in urgent need of a phone, my battery was lasting an hour and a half tops. You know, like it was uh it was time for me to buy a new phone, so for me it was a fully justified process. So and then the way it worked out with Fido, stupid Fido, was it was able to it was cheaper for me to buy the phone rather than sign the contract.
SPEAKER_02Okay.
SPEAKER_03So that's why I just bought it outright, and then I'm like, I'm buying a watch, go fuck it, and that was it. But yeah, definitely look into the rings, because I think that might have a big benefit on what you're doing, and especially with uh all the exercise you're getting. It could be cool to just track your data.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, yeah, for sure. I'll I I know I looked at them probably three or four years ago, and they were fairly new at that time, so the technology could be a little bit better and they could work a little bit better. Yeah, because you had to you had to make sure that they they were measured properly and they fit properly. I remember that, uh, just so that they could properly track your your data, because they have heart rate sensors on them or something like that as well. They can track your you know your route as you're running, skating, biking, whatever it is you do, that sort of stuff. So yeah, it's cool. Yeah, so I'll I'll I'll have a look.
SPEAKER_03Tech is getting better and better sooner to be a micro chip in our arms.
SPEAKER_01Well, hey, there is already, isn't there?
SPEAKER_03I think so, yeah.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_03So that's uh it's coming. Um I don't know if I'd have a chip in my arm right away. It's kind of crazy, but uh, I'm pretty happy with my watch. And I've been wearing a watch since day one.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_03I remember like in elementary school and I always wore a watch. Like, so for me it was just a natural thing. So for me it worked, but if you're not used to it, then you're fucked up. I know we got my mom an Apple watch for Mother's Day and her birthday. And uh she was never she always wore a watch, but just for when she was going out, but she didn't understand the practicality of having a smartwatch that works with her phone so seamlessly. Yeah. She takes it out of her pocket, she's super obsessed with steps, so she's like, Oh, I got like 25,000 steps today. I'm like, holy fuck, what the hell are you doing? She would get more steps than me when I was working at Canada Post.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_03And I was work walking for a living, and she'd still because it was like three or four dog walks a day, plus basic errands and shit.
SPEAKER_01So good for her.
SPEAKER_03Uh what was the um what's going on with the Bruins this month or this week?
SPEAKER_01Hey, hey, so hockey, yeah, for sure. The playoffs are in full swing, things are going good for the Bruins. They beat um uh they beat beat the New York, uh not the New York Islanders, they beat the Washington Capitals uh four games to one, which is fucking awesome. Uh now they're playing, now they're playing in round two, they're playing the New York Islanders. Game one of that series was yesterday. Uh the Bruins won. They were pretty dominant. They uh they weren't perfect, they had some mistakes. Um But you know what? That you know, that game was really close going into the third period, but then they just kind of they finally capitalized on all their chances because they had a ton of chances, ton of shots. They seemed to be the more dominant team against the Islanders, so they took game one. Um which was yeah, which was awesome. They're off to a good start there. The the thing with that is this was um like the the the fan they've had allowed fans into the stands in the American cities for quite a while now, and they've been gradually increasing the number that they're allowed to uh the number of people allowed into the building. That game yesterday in Boston at TD Garden was full. Like it was packed. Like that was so that was the that was the first game uh with basically capacity. Like I think there were some seats behind the benches, of course, that they kind of they left a little bit of room there. I know that's prime real estate for fans, but uh you know they don't want the fans too close to the to the players, of course. So but they were at capacity, like there were over 18,000 people there, and um so great, you know, great atmosphere and great for the players, especially uh after all of these months um here in Canada. You know, no fans uh for for a while. But I still don't I still don't know. I just don't know that I agree with all that. But well, whatever. That's uh it's about money. Uh at least that's got some to do with it. Sure, the health authorities in each state, you know, has to make their own recommendations and yeah, I just don't I just don't know agree with it. Uh I don't know that I like it, but whatever.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, I'm the same with you. Like why why right I know where we are actually when do we open up? Is it July 7th, July 1st? What the what's our action day here in BC?
SPEAKER_01Well, I think they've gone to uh you know what, and I never did fully read it up on it or understand it, but they've gone to a tier system. Well, they've always had this tier system, I think.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_01But last week they announced um obviously they lifted some restrictions. There's some in restaurant dining now, you know, there's some, you know, they've they're allowing people to slowly do different things. I think um middle of June they're lifting the travel restrictions between the health authorities, is that correct?
SPEAKER_03That's right, yep.
SPEAKER_01Um so they've got their whole plan in place, and of course, as people get vaccinated, um, you know, the things are gonna open up and we're going to be able to do more things. And I think by September, if the numbers cooperate, if people cooperate, that's what it's all about. And if people get vaccinated and keep wearing their mask and all that kind of stuff. I think they are hoping that everything's gonna be open wide up.
SPEAKER_03Yep, so you read September 7th is the day.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, so uh so obviously encouraging news, but uh you know I who knows. We still got a long way to go. We'll see what happens. That variance from India still sounds really bad. It is now the majority of cases in the UK, and now I even heard that there is a UK slash India variant. So, like fuck, things are changing here so quickly.
SPEAKER_03Uh there's that, and there's the new strain uh that was in Australia.
SPEAKER_01Okay.
SPEAKER_03Um I'm just trying to find that article. Um yeah, it's nuts. Yeah. Um shit, excuse me, bless me. Uh there was uh so Australia is now in their second lockdown. After a highly infectious COVID-19 outbreak, uh Australia's second most popular state of Victor or of Victoria will enter one week of COVID-19 lockdown, forcing its nearly seven million residents to remain home, except for essential businesses. Um and the weird one about this one is we're dealing with a highly infectious strain of the virus, a variant of concern, which is running faster than we've ever recorded.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_03Uh so this is in Melbourne. Uh, and the the crazy thing about this one is the current strain can take one day to inflict. Affect another person compared to the earlier strains, which take five or six days.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_03Holy shit. So that's the new one in Australia.
SPEAKER_01So that's crazy.
SPEAKER_03Australia's really trying to kill you now. Yeah. So that's not good.
SPEAKER_01No, not good at all. So so and the thing with Canada, uh again, provinces are are all different. They've got their own plan in place. Yeah. Uh and and back to hockey here as well, is that uh Montreal or Quebec actually ended their quarant not their quarantine, their curfew. Because Montreal was under curfew right up until I think Friday night or Saturday morning. Yeah, that's right. And they've they've lifted that curfew, and right away that they've allowed fans into the um into the Bell Center. Because yesterday, um uh continuing with hockey, it was game six between Montreal and Toronto of that series. That's still in series one or um the first round. Um and there were 2,500 fans there. So that was that was the first game in Canada with fans in attendance. Uh so 2,500 fans. And hey, you know, uh good good I think the the players loved it. Um the fans loved it, of course. It sounds it looks like from what I saw, Montreal was just going fucking nuts that they were allowed to watch some hockey and you know live hockey. So so good for them, but but is it too soon? Like, I don't know. Like the other provinces aren't aren't opening up in that manner yet. Um of course Edmonton is out of the playoffs. They'll they lost they lost four zips, so they don't need to worry about fans in attendance.
SPEAKER_03But that last game, three overtime periods for the Jets, right?
SPEAKER_01Did it go uh I think it goes. Did it go three? Oh fuck, I can't remember. But that was that was so good to see Edmonton get swept. Like, oh man, I just I just love that. And but you know, and and Toronto was up 3-1 in their series, and now it's tied 3-3. They play game seven tomorrow night, and I hope they fucking lose. They'd be on home ice, and I hope they lose. I really do.
SPEAKER_03So well, there'll be no fans in Toronto because Toronto's shit in the bed.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, oh are they? Yeah. Well, I know things haven't opened up, but yeah, I didn't know that I didn't follow numbers or anything in Ontario or anything yet, so but that's so but that's the thing. Like it every province is different, but at the same time, you know, is it too early for anybody to be opening up like that to to that number of people? Because like shit, like we just don't know, and it doesn't take much for there to be uh kind of like an outbreak here again.
SPEAKER_03It sucks. And the thing is that even with the vaccine, we can still catch COVID. Yeah, you know, that's the scary thing. You're not 100% immune to it. The thing is hopefully we're not gonna die now, but at the end of the day, we can still catch so it's a very real um still a very real disease of uh yeah, infection or whatever you want to call it. It it sucks. Like they they're telling us that we can stop wearing masks like September 7th, whatever it is. I'm gonna wear this fucking mask until I have no mask to buy. Uh I actually need to go buy a couple more because I'm running low and I'm gonna be out in the public way more than I admit to now, which is kind of shitty. But yeah, I'm gonna be masked up until at least I don't know, at least until we reach at least a year of immunity or something.
SPEAKER_01But uh Yeah, yeah, and you know, who knows when that's gonna happen. So uh it's gonna take some time. It's uh so I don't know. Yeah, we'll see. We'll see. Things things are opening up all over. So uh again, is it too early? Because uh, you know, there are concerts now that are happening in in the States. I know you mentioned the one festival in Florida that's kind of November, but there's some other stuff happening before that, and it means a lot of fans in attendance, and um you know, Mike, I don't know. I just don't know.
SPEAKER_03Like it's cool. Uh, but you did let's let's switch over to music. You found an awesome article about um uh some show, it's uh rock concert in Florida, that if you are vaccinated, you get in for eighteen dollars, and if you're not vaccinated, it's a thousand dollars.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, so it's it's it's kind of uh a cool little gimmick, I guess. Yeah. And it is allowing you know vaccinated people to attend. Uh how many people have a thousand dollars to spend on a small show, I guess. They they better not hope, uh they better hope that a lot of people with a lot of these rich people maybe in Florida uh don't buy up all the tickets for a thousand bucks each. I don't know, but anyway. It's kind of a cool concept. So um as long as people are uh are as long as they are allowed, or as long as they know for sure that those people are in fact vaccinated, like what what method are they using to show I it sounds like there's a vaccine card or something like that, but you know, can those be forged? Um you know, like who knows? Uh like and that and that's that's kind of big picture a problem that everybody's going to run into. You know, if it is a like at a physical piece of paper or something like that, like can those be duplicated in some way? Uh can they be forged and and are people gonna take advantage of that? So even if they're not vaccinated, they can make it look like they are. So anyway. Kind of cool. I don't know what kind of show it is, it's a bunch of it's smaller bands, must be local bands or something like that. Yeah, yeah. You know, I've never heard of these guys before. So but it is a cool thing. Uh I also don't know attendance of uh this particular venue, but hey, anyways, it's it's innovative. Uh people are doing different things to um to try and kick start the industry again, because you know, we do we do all miss it. Yeah, we do. Whether whether or not I will go again, of course, uh that's a different story, but hey, we'll we'll see. They're doing things to kind of get things going again. We'll see what happens.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, I'm still sketched out. Like, I don't know what my friend I can I know we bought a bunch, like me me and you personally bought uh Monster Manga tickets.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_03But before the pandemic, I bought tool tickets, I had uh Roger Waters tickets, and I had Stones tickets.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_03Uh so I've been refunded for all of them except the stones. Okay. So I don't know, like, if the stones were to be announced tomorrow and they're here next month, I don't even know if I'd show up to the stones now, because it's just like and that's you gotta think, like that's BC Place. So that capacity of BC Place is what, 80,000, 70,000, 60,000?
SPEAKER_01Wow, fifth for a concert, maybe fifty, fifty-five, maybe even if it's fifty-five or whatever, I don't know. But yeah, shit, that's a lot of people.
SPEAKER_03That's a fuck ton of people. And yeah, one person in an arena has COVID. Yeah, you know, like what do you do? And it's just and it's just it's just super scary.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_03I don't like I I I don't know how to feel about that stuff yet. I'm still trying to process in my mind, but as of right now, it's it's not looking very good.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I mean, again, that's that's such a large stadium and so many people. Um I I mean, we're skeptical about going to a show at the rickshaw with uh a couple hundred people, right? Yeah. So yeah. It's a it's a tough one. We'll have to we'll have to see later in the summer what's going on. Exactly.
SPEAKER_03It's too early to jump to conclusions on it. I to be honest, I'd probably end up going anyways, but I'd be masked up for sure.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, yeah. Defin definitely. I I think you have to. I think at this point you still need to protect yourself and uh you you are protecting others. You know, there's no question. You know, that's that's why we're wearing masks, and yeah, not only to protect ourselves, it's it is more to protect other people. So uh so I think you have to do it. Um but there are a lot of shows being announced for the summer and the fall, and of course next year. A lot of a lot of big tours are kind of banking on this being completely over and sort of the life being back to sort of normal. Yeah. Uh uh, because there is a lot of shows uh I've been reading lately that's you know there the tours are in place for for a lot of bands. And uh I I know that they've done this a cup maybe a couple times already, and of course things have been cancelled along the way, but I think this time they're really banking on things opening up and and us being able to attend shows. So we'll have to see. Because there's some there's some big ones. Uh oh yeah. Yeah, I I read Rammstein has kind of rescheduled their shows. They're because they've never really done a full North American tour. Even though Rammstein is as big as they are, and uh um, you know, as l as long as they've been around, I don't think they've done a protainly not a stadium show or uh a stadium tour of North America.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. That would be interesting. Do you see Ramstein when they were here?
SPEAKER_01I did I did, yeah, I did see them. Yeah, that was fucking awesome. What a great show. Just a crazy show. That was so cool. And I got some good picks from that one too.
SPEAKER_03Oh, that's awesome.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, yeah, that was really that was really awesome. But one of those dates is in uh is in Montreal. Yep. Uh so I think it's August something uh twenty twenty two. Uh that'd be so fun to again if I feel like I'm ready for shows again. Uh it would be an awesome show to go see. A road trip. To go road trip to Montreal or something like that. Uh of course, you could always go to the States too. I forget what what you know what their tour schedule looks like, but uh they're either in Seattle or they're in Tacoma or they're in Los Angeles for sure. Yeah. Oh yes, yeah. They're doing two shows at um at the Coliseum, I think, in Los Angeles, yeah. So so that'd be that'd be fun. Um but yeah, but again, we'll have to wait and see.
SPEAKER_03But you're right. Um I know I know you're not a big fan, but Billy Eilish has planned a world tour for 2022. Yeah. And she's such a big name right now that it's all sold out. The whole entire tour is sold out. I don't know what the tickets were or whatever it is. I actually tried to get a pair of tickets just because. Um just to see if I could. So I signed up for the Ticketmaster verified fan thing. I did all the right steps, and I still couldn't get in. So I I think that's just the sign of things to come because everyone's been so stride for entertainment for the last two years. It's probably different in the States, but here in Canada, we're still you know, we're still playing by the good rules. And I know that anything big that comes into town, if it's through Ticketmaster, we're fucked. Yeah. It's always kind of been like that. I think it's gonna even be more so now.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I I agree. I think the scalpers or the bots or whatever it is that scoops up tickets all the time, I think you're right. I think they're just gonna grab everything, and then us real fans are gonna be stuck paying, you know, prices that are 200-300% above uh face value. Like it's yeah, uh that's just that's sad. I wonder if Ticketmaster has you know got anything in place to try and prevent that from happening. Because, you know, I know they've been trying to take steps to prevent, you know, scalpers and stuff, but hey, they're they're into it just as they're just as bad as as uh as the scalpers really they are, because uh their system wrong with it. It just doesn't work. Oh, and they're yeah. And real fans get fucked around because of it.
SPEAKER_03So and their verified fan program, but they're buying it like Jesus.
SPEAKER_01That's basically a scalper themselves, right? Because because first of all, they make money off the original purchase, and now they get service charges and and the same fees on on the second purchase on the verified tickets. So they're double dipping there, and and those verified tickets are typically a lot higher, so they're making even more money off the second purchase or the second sale. Like yes, that's go sh goes to show you how fucked up Ticketmaster is. Fuck, I hate him.
SPEAKER_03Oh yeah, yeah, me too. So support the local venues. We gotta support the local venues.
SPEAKER_01Well, yeah, yeah, I I I agree, yes.
SPEAKER_03Um talk about them anymore. Oh yeah, that's let's let's move on. Uh you had some also awesome music news. Uh King Buffalo has a new song out.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, like this band is probably one of my favorites over the last four or five years. And I've seen them two or three times. They're from Rochester, New York. So they're a three-piece. They're just it's just so good. They're so much fun to watch live, but their music is just amazing. And uh they've got a new album out. Uh is it out yet? I don't know that it's quite out yet. They've really released a couple songs from that album, though. The latest one is called Silverfish. Uh, it starts off kind of kind of odd, uh, but it really kicks in. It's a and it's a shorter song by their standards too, because some of their music is pretty long. Yeah. Um, anyways, uh yeah, yeah. This I I've purchased uh I actually purchased their vinyl through their shows that I've attended. But then there's been three albums come out in the last uh they had a they had an album come out last year, then they released a live album, and now what they're doing for 2021, 2022 is release three consecutive albums. So even though pandemic and everything like that, they've been doing a lot of recording. Uh they've got three albums coming out in the next you know 12 months or so. That's awesome. Uh and this is the first of those three. Um so what I've done is I I purchased through their website, I purchased these three albums that I don't have. Yeah. Um the one from last year, the live one, and this one of three coming up. So I'm I'm waiting for those. Um I'm excited to the their packaging is already always really cool. It's nice looking vinyl. Uh they do a pretty good job. So uh but this song, Silverfish, is pretty cool. It's a great song. Put it on the website and uh yeah, awesome stuff. That's kind of my my pick for this week. And um uh yeah, there's been some other stuff coming out. Uh always lots of good good tunes coming out. So um I don't know if you've been listening to anything yourself, anything caught your eye or your ear?
SPEAKER_03Not really, to be honest. Uh I I always go through, but I've just been so slammed with work. The one thing that sticks out in my head is that uh Dog Tree and the singer from Seven Dust, uh Lijan Weatherspoon. Witherspoon? Weatherspoon uh covered a version of Hunger Strike, obviously by Temple of the Dog. And I listened, it's a great cover. They do it justice. Check that out if you get a chance. But that's the only thing that's really caught my eye, because I love Seven Dust. Seven Dust is one of my favorite bands. Uh so I I checked that out for sure, but I have a list of shit that I say that I have to go back and listen to. I've just been so goddamn busy. So but I do need to step back on a music train. I did listen to that um to the King Buffalo song you sent me, and yeah, like you, I'm a big fan too, so I'm looking forward. I didn't know there were three new albums coming up, so that's awesome.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, for sure.
SPEAKER_03Um, but that's that. Uh this week, uh, for movie-wise, every Friday, the old man and I watch a flick, so this week we watched The Wrath of Man. So that's the new Guy Ritchie movie with Jason Statham in it. It's pretty cool. It's like a gangster revenge heist story. Okay, it reminds me a lot of Snatch, because obviously he directed Snatch and wrote Snatch, but yeah, it's pretty action-packed, got a couple cool twists to it. So yeah, uh yeah, definitely check that one out if you get uh a chance to. It's uh very well done. It's very soundtracky, uh, cool stuff. I also watched Corella last night.
SPEAKER_01Oh yeah, that just came out. Yeah, it just came out.
SPEAKER_03So again, it was it was super cool, kind of cool backstory. Of course, it's Disney and it's uh leads, it's I I guess it's the prequel to 101 Dalmatians, which is why the hell are we talking about Disney Flicks? But go fuck yourself. Uh but it's still like it is Emma Stones in it. She is an awesome actress, she does the the uh role really well, but the soundtrack on this movie kicks ass. Oh, really? There's a bunch of like cool covers, like there was a whole lot of love cover. I don't know who did it, I have to look that up, but yeah, the soundtrack for Coella is fantastic. And the movie is actually really it was two and a half hours long, uh, but it went by super quickly. You don't realize it's two and a half hours long. Yeah, um, unfortunately, I fell asleep in it a couple times, but uh fell asleep on the girlfriend. She's like, Wakes me up, what the fuck? I'm like, why is this place on fire right now? She's like, You missed out! Yeah, I've been sleeping for the last 20 minutes. I have no idea. Uh but uh yeah, I gotta rewatch it because some of the from it was yeah, it's really well done, really well acted. And yeah, definitely check that out. It's it's cool. Uh did you watch anything interesting this week?
SPEAKER_01Uh we've been finishing up some stuff. Uh we finished Life. Uh remember I talked talked about the show uh titled Life uh with uh with Damian Lewis. Really good show. It's only two seasons. I know you mentioned you don't like seasons that are sh shows that are only two seasons long. Yeah. And this one, I admit, I don't know that it ended you know properly. Like there are like if you really look at it, there are some things that are seem to be unfinished, but it's still uh a completed kind of the major or the significant part of the the story, which is Damian Lewis's character trying to find out who framed him and uh for the mur for murdering his friend and family and him spending twelve years in jail. So that kind of got solved, I guess. Um yeah, it it's you know what it's it's worth watching. Um I think the first season is only nine episodes or something like that. The second season is twenty-one episodes, somewhere in there. The the second season is much longer. I think it's worth watching. I uh you know what, it's a lot of fun. It's it's uh some people might look at it and think it's your typical cop show. Um but it's and again, it's got this these twists and some humor to it, and uh I think it stands out from a lot of the other stuff that we've watched recently, so it was pretty good.
SPEAKER_03That's awesome.
SPEAKER_01So we finished that. Uh the other thing is I've been kind of watching some outbreak movies again. Uh you know, if you remember last year I I was watching a whole shitload of pandemic movies, yeah. And stuff like that. So I've kind of been back at that. Um nothing is really significant or nothing stands out as being, you know, you must see or must watch. Uh, but I've updated the list on the website. Uh um, so go check that out. And I'm gonna obviously there's tons of different uh pandemic and virus and apocalyptic type films out there, so I'm gonna be trying to watch uh some more of those, and I'll certainly update the website whenever that happens. So that's kind of what I've been doing.
SPEAKER_03Did you fit ever finish watching The Walking Dead, speaking of zombies and stuff?
SPEAKER_01No, no, that's that's that's funny uh because that got delayed for because of COVID. Yep and then and then what they did was and normally those seasons are 16 episodes long, so I think the it got uh it got delayed after s episode 15. Um so what they did was okay they the plan was for for whatever reason they wanted to add, they added they tacked on another six episodes to the season.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_01And uh but they didn't release them they released episode 16 and then a big long delay again, and then episodes 17 through 22. Um we watched episode 16 when it came out, and we haven't watched anything since. So to answer your question, no, we didn't finish watching it. So uh I know I said I was done after this season. And is it over? I don't even know if it's over after this season. Like are have they decided to I think it's season 10. Are they going to a season 11? I I have no idea. Um Yeah, I feel like we should finish off the season by what by watching these last six episodes, but yeah, we just haven't got to them.
SPEAKER_03So Yeah, I think you have to by this point. I mean you're so invested ten seasons in.
SPEAKER_01We are, I know, that's the thing. That's why we've kind of carried on uh like we have all this time, and uh yeah, I don't know. Yeah, we'll see. Maybe we'll uh maybe we'll get to it. Maybe there'll be an evening where we're in the right mood and we'll flip it on. But at this point I'm not really caring too much about it.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, I was like that too. I I never I never w I think I've watched some of the Walking Dead synopsises for work-wise. But I I could give two fucks about The Walking Dead. I still gotta watch Game of Thrones. I do have to watch that because apparently it's supposed to be awesome. Did you watch Game of Thrones?
SPEAKER_01No, nope. That's I I think we I may have mentioned that. It's just not a show I'm interested in. Yes, I heard it's really good and people talk about it all the time. But I'm not really into that type of uh show, I guess, whether it's a movie or TV series, it's just that medieval time that old yeah, it's that kind of error of you know that the that it's set in. Yeah, like the fantasy. Type type film. Like it's just, I don't know. It's just yeah, I don't know. I mean, no idea. No, it's not. And I'm not trying to compare it to Lord of the Rings or anything like that, but is it is it not kind of the same era? Like, are these films not set in the same type of fantasy type land?
SPEAKER_03Yeah, yeah, I think so. Like castles and sword fighting and organs and dwarfs and dragons and magic and shit.
SPEAKER_01I mean, I mean, I did like Lord of the Rings, but you know, it's it's not like I flipped head over heels over those films. Oh no, you know, they they they were enjoyable. Um you know, I'm glad I watched them. Would I be okay if I say I didn't watch them or we never had got to them, then it would be no big deal. But so, anyways, that's how I feel about Game of Thrones.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, no, I get it. I'm I you know I watched the f so I watched the first season when it came out, then I fell off the ship. And everyone's like, watch it again, watch it again, watch it again. So I watched seasons one and two, then I fell off the ship. And it was like, try it again, try it again, try it again. So then I watched seasons one, two, and three and fell off the ship. So something wasn't keeping my attention for it. Yes, I I get there's blood and violence and dragons and sex and boobs and all this shit, which I'm all for. But it's just I think there was just so much going on, you just become overstimulated.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_03And at this point in our lives, we're doing so much. Like, well, I'm I tried, like on my Friday night movies, I try and watch the movie a thousand percent like a minute trying to watch it. Unless it's something I've seen before, then I'm kind of distracted doing some things or um and I think I mentioned it every weekend we always eat salsa, so it's it's pretty cool to eat salsa, watch eat salsa and chips and and watch these movies, but um that keeps us distracted. But yeah, I just couldn't I can't do Game of Thrones for whatever reason. So I might try it again for fourth and final time, but they say three strikes you're out, so that's kind of where I am at it. So and I've and to be honest with you, I watched the big episodes like the with the red blood red wedding episode, watched everyone fucking die on that, so I'm good. I saw the highlight episodes, and apparently season seven was the shit. So what's the point of finishing it? If I'm just gonna be disappointed by putting how many hours into the show that everyone says it's the shits, well, then it's shits. But then again, I might like it. So who the hell knows? You don't really know until you watch it.
SPEAKER_01That's right. But again, there's just tons of stuff out there, right? And uh our list of things to watch is huge. We've got a pretty good big library and a pretty good selection of even then, we don't know what to watch half the time. But you know, there are some shows, some older shows going way back that that I would like to see. I mean, that's not that old of a show, I guess. Yeah. What are there, eight seasons of Game of Thrones? Um something like that?
SPEAKER_03Yes, seven, I think.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, there's some shows that go back uh, you know, maybe fifteen, twenty years, uh, that I haven't seen that are supposed to be really good. Okay. Uh like The Wire. Um The Wire is supposed to be really good. I have not seen a single episode of that. Uh so that is something I definitely want to check out. You know, what else? I know there's lots of um there's lots of newer Korean movies, though. I'm jumping from old to new here, but but yeah, but yeah, I see that uh I see you know on the internet that there's a ton of stuff from Korea out now, and it really they look like really decent uh their TV shows, uh not movies, and it looks like you know South Korea has really ramped up their studios over there, and they're making they're pumping out a lot of stuff. So uh and some of it's some of it looks pretty good. Obviously, there's some big movies that came out and they've won some awards and everything, like uh uh what was the big one that came out that won the Oscars there uh two years ago.
SPEAKER_03Um Outbreak and Obano. Um I I know what you're doing. It's the Korean uh shit.
SPEAKER_01I don't know why I we watched it and it was a good movie, too. I can't remember what it was. Was it Outbreak? It was it was no, it wasn't called Outbreak, but uh you would think then based on the name that it was kind of virus related, but it's it's not at all. It's got nothing to do with viruses or pandemics or anything like that. So what the hell is it called? Doesn't it start with a P? It's not pandemic, is it? Oh, I have no idea.
SPEAKER_03Uh what what year 2019, 2018? Was it 200 This is really bad.
SPEAKER_01I bring it up and I can't even fucking remember here now.
SPEAKER_03No, it's happened. We're old, we don't care.
SPEAKER_01Um it wasn't anyway, good film. No, yeah. Now we have to find out what it is.
SPEAKER_03Now yeah, I'm going. Uh best actor, best production. Parasite, that's Parasite, there it is. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01And it's got nothing to do with the actual parasite or or uh bug or anything like that. But yeah, so so anyway, great film. Lots of stuff is coming out of uh that country, uh including some TV shows that maybe you know, it's things like that, it's especially the TV, it's things like that. Maybe they're on Netflix, I'm not sure, but there's a lot of stuff that uh that I seem to be finding that is probably not very popular over here. So and it looks like it's well worth uh checking out.
SPEAKER_03Oh yeah, of course, yeah. There's always so much to watch, it's just making the time to watch these stupid movies.
SPEAKER_01There's just no time. Yeah, it's just uh I love the music and I probably don't listen to as much music as I'd like to. Uh you know, my vinyl collection is growing and I don't get the time. Even though I'm working from home.
SPEAKER_03That sucks. Well, then you only do so much, right?
SPEAKER_01Yeah, exactly.
SPEAKER_03So before you burn out and need to nap and eat. Apparently we have to nap, eat, and exercise. Apparently, it's the four pillars of health, which I'm not doing. So uh shit.
