You'd probably have a better time picking your nose, but this is how you're choosing to spend your time listening to these guys. Well, at least they both love heavy metal. Here are the old men, Adam and Steven.
SPEAKER_04Yes, welcome out to it, another episode of Old Men Who Yell at Clouds. We are episode number 65. It is Mother's Day, Sunday, May the 9th, 2021. And I'm joined. I fucked that up. My name is Adam. What? Holy shit. There we go. I haven't slept much in the last little while, Steven, and um it's been a struggle of this last week for me. Wow. I'm okay. I'm still alive. I got it. I named it.
SPEAKER_02Okay, that's good. That's good. I was I was going to say in reference to episode 65 that uh I mean, some days I feel like I'm 65, but but then with the way you're carrying on here so far today, I think you're the one that's 65.
SPEAKER_04I'm feeling like 95 right now. Okay then. It's been a long week. Um can't get into it too much, but I started a new job and I'm doing 10 hour shifts, and it's kicking my ass. Um I had five 10 hour days uh the last week, learning a bunch of new stuff, and uh pretty much last or Friday night I slept. I slept a lot yesterday, hung out with the girlfriend for a little bit, but I fell asleep on her three times. Holy shit. Up out and then slept in this morning until 10.30. Came on, did a bunch of shit with a mom. Mother's Day and all. Uh made barbecue, made barbecue lamb, made a bunch of barbecue vegetables. Nice. So that was that. Um, so that's all done. And now uh now I'm here on this uh lovely Mother's Day. How has Mother's Day treated you so far?
SPEAKER_02Yeah, happy Mother's Day, everyone, and to mom and her your mom and all moms everywhere.
SPEAKER_04Can't make your mom jokes today because that's poor taste.
SPEAKER_02Well, that's right. Yeah. The world's uh a better place because of our moms. So it is. Uh we uh of course I spoke to my mom on the phone. Uh I'm not uh fortunate enough that we were able to hang out. Yeah, so I'm glad you did and you guys had some nice dinner and shit like that. So that's cool. Um but we had a pretty busy day too. We um we ended up I I I rented a car, uh co-op car, a car share, or whatever like that. And we did a bunch of running around, starting with our uh quick little visit to for our our cats uh to the vet. Just a just a regular checkup, nothing's going on, so that's good. Yeah, shots, blood work. It's been a couple years, so like kind of like to keep on top of that. So they're doing great. And then we uh took advantage of the nice day and we drove around and picked up some shit and uh got some got some plants for outside for our awesome patio, and uh got a rug for the bedroom, made a stop at Costco. Yeah, what else? I don't know. Yeah, we were out for a good six and a half hours today, though. So it was a pretty good day. We got lots done. And the thing is, probably because of Mother's Day, yeah, it was quiet out there. It was the stores were quiet, which was really nice. Well, Costco was a little busy, but yeah, it wasn't too bad.
SPEAKER_04So you braved Costco on a day like Mother's Day?
SPEAKER_02Yeah, yeah. And it wasn't, like I said, it wasn't that bad. This is a good day.
SPEAKER_04I got a pr I got a tweet from somebody. Uh speaking of mothers, and you know, mothers are putting on makeup when they're younger, and you're watching them put on makeup. I had um someone bitched me out because I didn't send you the photo to post on our website, Old Men Heal at Clouds of me wearing my face mask.
SPEAKER_02That's right.
SPEAKER_04So I'm gonna send that to you right now. So, Steve, if you're listening, go fuck yourself. And the photo is on Oldman Heal at Clouds.com, so check that out. Um, so that is that. We're good to go. You now have the photo in your possession of me wearing a black face mask.
SPEAKER_01All right.
SPEAKER_02Um I'll I'll look at that right away, and thank you very much. And I forgot about it as well. So thanks to our listeners for paying attention and uh staying on top of that. I'm glad I'm glad some people are listening. And hey, we they're gonna keep us on our toes from now on, so you better watch out.
SPEAKER_04We're trending with 10 listeners, so that's good. Um they wanted to oh sorry, go ahead.
SPEAKER_02No, I was just gonna say it's better than it's better than two or three that we were at where a couple months ago or whatever, right? So yeah.
SPEAKER_04So we're trending up. We are we're doing pretty good. Steve also wanted to see my um uh Phillips Hughes setup as well, so I'll send you a photo of that, just a couple lights in action. So you can feel free to post these. Again, check this out at oldmanhealclouse.com, as well as any past episodes we've done. We've done a couple sweet interviews, getting a lot of good response for uh Newman from uh the Magstick Skeletons. We talked to Liz from Hell and Venn, we've talked to Danger, Morrison, Hancock, and a missing one. Who else are we waiting for?
SPEAKER_02Danger, Morrison, Hancock, and uh and Steve, is it the same Steve? Uh Steve from Steve Ledead. Is that uh is this a different Steve? Oh, different Steve.
SPEAKER_04Uh Steve Lead, of course, Mr. the Vancouver movie review guy. He's that's right. He's good at what he does. Did you ever watch any of those recommendations he recommended for us?
SPEAKER_02Uh I haven't. Well, no, I haven't. The only thing, uh, and I was actually gonna bring it up, the only thing we have watched that we talked about uh uh with him uh in that episode was um Coming to America, like the sequel. Oh, yeah, yeah. So we watched the we ended up watching the first one first because it's been such a long time. And uh hey, you just kind of have to do that. Uh you can't jump right into the sequel sometimes uh without knowing what happened in the first one. So uh yeah, so anyways, we we did end up watching the second one or the sequel. And um I I was not as it wasn't as good. But but and and this goes back to what he he I think he mentioned when in his chat with us is that um Wesley Snipes, I think, kind of made that movie. His his role was uh I thought as well. I thought of it right away. His role was awesome. He was just uh it was pretty cool. Just uh um just to watch him carry on. You know, those guys, like well, again, and it goes back to the first one, like Eddie Murphy and Arsenio Hall, like they must have been in like how long did it take them to get into costume and and have all that makeup put on? In order in order to to film those roles, because like holy shit, it's just it's so cool. And I mean you don't even know it's them in a couple of them. You can tell in in most like who it is, but it's still really well done. Like there was one, I think, though, like okay, who is that? I okay, I know it's one of those guys probably playing this role, but like who is it? Yeah, anyways, great job. I mean it's not a it's not a bad film, but uh uh it's still yeah, it's entertaining anyway.
SPEAKER_04Um I thought that was super cool. Um they because you watch like you I haven't seen the first one years upon years. So I watched the first one, then I watched the second one. The first one is still fantastic. Yeah, first one's funny. Yeah, it's good. They're obviously way younger when that happens, so they had to recreate the bar scene in the second one. So all prosthetics, like it's pretty much shot for shot. Like it looks pretty sweet. Like I was a big fan of what they did, and who knows what special effects now and uh and and what else, but special effects are not the finished product of that, it's awesome.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, for sure.
SPEAKER_04And I forgot, did you watch it on like did you watch it in 4K?
SPEAKER_02Uh no, no, we don't have a 4K TV, so uh just good old HD for us. Yeah, but still, but it's it was good.
SPEAKER_04I see I we're I'm a little spoiled now because I'm watching everything the new stuff in 4K, so just to see some of the detail, like we're talking about costumes, like the big ballroom end scene where they're all in the gold uniforms and there's like true blacks and stuff, like it visually looks fucking stunning. Like it's it's fantastic. I'm a big fan of that. Uh the movie I watched this week was Without Mercy, and that has Michael B. Jordan, and it's a um it's kind of like a spy thriller sort of thing. Oh, that movie's awesome. It's super old school. It sets up new movies coming up. Michael B. Jordan's a pretty solid actor, so yeah, he is.
SPEAKER_02He's done some cool stuff in the last two or three years for sure. Yeah.
SPEAKER_04So yeah, I definitely recommend that one if you haven't watched that one. And um, that's it.
SPEAKER_02Um yeah, uh he he definitely mentioned a bunch, and of course, there was the Oscars. We uh you know, some of them were up for some of the major awards and stuff like that, and uh they're still on my list. We just haven't gotten around to it. You know, and we've been it's not like we don't have any time because we have been watching some film and TV, and we just for some reason haven't gotten to any of those. I don't know what it is. Sometimes you know, we just we just kind of especially when it comes to TV, we we kind of start a series and we kind of want to roll with it and keep going and finish it off before we get to anything else, right? So yeah. Uh and so the two series we're watching right now is uh City on a Hill, which I've mentioned before. That's with Kevin Bacon. He's a kind of a corrupt FBI. Kevin Bacon. The Kevin Bacon corrupt FBI uh officer in Boston. Boston. Boston. And um, and then we just started watching um a it's a two-season show called Life. The first the first season was 2007. I think the second one came out a couple years later, 2009. It stars uh Damien Lewis. Is that his name? Damien Lewis. Um I guess the the reason why we we started that one, because we've got a lot of TV shows on our list too. The reason why we started that one is his wife recently passed away.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Um and they're both not very old. I think she was 52. I think she had some sort of cancer or something like that. So his his most recent TV show is billions. And I've talked to I've talked a lot about billions last year before it went on hiatus because of COVID again. Um they're in the middle of season five. I don't know. I don't know when that that's gonna conclude, but anyway. Uh uh because of these things, because you know, he was in the news and and uh he spoke about his wife and all that kind of stuff. I just started digging into his past because I was never really sure what he he did in the past, and he's done some pretty cool things. Uh he was in Band of Brothers. Cool. Um he like I said, he was in Billions. Um he was in Homeland. I never did watch Homeland, like that was an eight-season, and I think he even won a couple of major awards for that, Homeland.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, my parents talk about Homeland a lot. They still watch the the reruns because they love that show. Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_02So I don't know, maybe we'll have to get into that eventually as well. But uh the other show is uh is life. It's it's that's the name it's called Life. Yeah. Just Life. And uh he he's a um Los Angeles police officer. He got convicted, or he yeah, he got accused and convicted of a crime that he didn't commit. He spent he spent twelve years in prison, and he got out on um basically they found the found out that they fucked up and he actually didn't commit this crime, and he got out of jail, got a big settlement from the city of Los Angeles, but he's still a cop. So it kind of uh goes with that story, of course. So he's trying to, you know, he's he's it deals with the day day-to-day shit of being an LA police officer, but it also obviously he wants to find out who framed him or who actually who sent him to jail. Of course. So this, you know, so it's kind of based on that. And um it it's just it's really good. I I it's it's uh I mean some people might think it's your typical cop show, but it's just uh just the story behind it and just the fact that he was basically out of touch from the world for twelve years because he was in jail, so he's just kind of having to learn all the stuff that he missed out on over the years, right? So it just kind of plays with that a little bit. It's it's really good. I think it's well done. Yeah, that's cool.
SPEAKER_04I see my new rule for shows and stuff now, because I mean, as we all know, time is limited and we're losing a lot of time. I actually won't now start a season if it's it doesn't if it's so if it goes into season three, then I'll start watching it. So I'll give the first two seasons a pass now. Because I don't want to get invested in the show and then have it cancelled, and it's happened so much. It's happened with the TV Marvel shows, so um the Deadpool, not Deadpool, um Daredevil, seasons one and two on Netflix. Okay, uh Jessica Jones, season one and two on Netflix. Iron Fist on Netflix was kind of shits, but it also happened on Fox. I'm a big Terminator fan, love sci-fi stuff. It was the uh Terminator Sarah Connor Chronicles, which was a fucking fantastic show. Okay, but it only lasted two seasons, and I think I mean it was really well done, especially because it was following the story like to a T. Like James Cameron produced it, it was I mean, it wasn't movie tech like um you know visually, but it had some pretty cool effects on it. Uh and just for them to cut the rug into that, like it was such a cool cliffhanger to expand the story, like and then it kind of came to a head like cliffhangers do, and you don't get a second one because it got cancelled, I'm just like, oh fuck. So yeah, my brother-in-law actually told me this rule. He's like, I won't watch a new series unless it's starting in season three, then I'll go back and watch it. So I just don't want to get invested and then have it be like, what the fuck? So that's my kind of general rule of thumb with TV shows. Unless someone's like, unless this is a series has an ending, so it's a one-and-none season like uh true detective, for instance, or any of the Marvel series shows, because it all fits in with the timeline and kind of moves forward. So that's cool, but anything else, I'm just so if it goes into season three, then I'll watch seasons one and two of life. And this way you can binge watch it, so you're done super quick.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. Yeah, that's that that is true. Like for example, City, uh City on a Hill is a current series, and so yes, one one episode per week, so you kind of gotta watch that and and then wait, because we like kind of watching a couple episodes in a night and that sort of stuff. So um so that's why we do like a lot of the movies we have on our list, like they are older shows and stuff like that. So we can you know read whether or not we want to watch them, and you know, obviously they're they're over, they're long gone, and stuff like that, but are they are they worth it? Are they worth uh you know spending you know, whatever, five seasons on some of them, some of these uh like well Homeland, Homeland was out for I think eight seasons. There were eight seasons of Homeland or something like that. So but it sounds like it's worth watching, so yeah, you know, you don't mind putting time into stuff like that if you have the time.
SPEAKER_04And if it wraps up, I'm cool with it wrapping up. Like if you watched eight seasons, it wraps up a cool cool story arc, I'm in. Yeah, I'm all over that. It's like a super, super, super long movie. But yeah, for two seasons and for it to be done, you can go fuck yourself. It's not a it's not a happy time. And thinking that, not to say it's cartoon, it's also like that way with cartoons. Like uh a bunch of old school Disney cartoons, like gargoyles. I don't know if you ever watched Gargoyles, but Gargoyles is a fantastic Disney cartoon. Um that was three seasons and done, and like shit like that. And that kind of pisses me off. The animated X-Men series. I don't know if you ever watched that, but that was the same. Same. It's classic, same classic cartoon, it's awesome, continue follows the comics super well, it's all animated, very well done, high production value. Again, fucking cut. So I don't want to get my heart broken over and over again. Fuck this.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. Well, well, that's true. It's you you do miss some time in it, and you kind of want it to come to some sort of conclusion, uh, instead of just getting getting axed. So um I don't know. That's that's the way TV is, I guess. It all it's all about money and and ratings and uh uh see and the thing is, you know, I don't know how, you know, just because everybody cuts the cord now too, right? So I don't know how like they still depend on ratings so much, but the you know the thing is people I don't know, people people consume this stuff in other ways, and are they able to still get proper ratings, you know, with with these different ways that people are watching the you know shows, whether it's movies or TV, right? So I don't know. It's just it's I don't know. Like we don't have cable, obviously.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, either do I. I haven't had cable since I moved downtown, so that was 2015. Yeah. Sorry, 2003. Sorry, I haven't had cable in since 2003. It's almost been 20 years since I mean my parents have cable, but ever since I was just able and lucky and fortunate enough and nerdy enough to be able to acquire my TV shows. But they're doing a lot of cool things with TV now. I don't know if you're into seeing it or a lot of it, but the YouTube TV, have you seen that? Have you read about how it works?
SPEAKER_02Yeah, well, no, I haven't read about how it works. I'm familiar with it a little bit anyways, but um Why? What's what's so different about YouTube TV?
SPEAKER_04Uh it's pr it's pretty cool because you get all the like if it was Canadian, what I what I've read is so you get all the Canadian channels, whatever CBC, C T V. Oh, you do? Oh, okay. Yep. Okay. Uh because it's set through your um postal codes and stuff, so you get all your local stuff. Right. And you have uh a hundred hours of P VR time. Okay. So and you can access that P VR time from any you like any device. Uh-huh. So as long as I'm signing to the Google on my cell phone, on my laptop, my desktop, my fucking smartwatch, wherever it is, I can watch TV from your uh from whatever device. So you can access that anywhere, you can record the recording schedule anywhere, and uh you can do it like that. And the regular plan is 100 PVR hours, and like the premium plus plan is 250, 250 plus hours of PVR time.
SPEAKER_02Over what period of time?
SPEAKER_04Uh I think it's unlimited until you cancel the TV thing.
SPEAKER_02No, but who but who but like you said, 100 PVR hours over what over what um like how long do you have to watch those 100 PVR hours?
SPEAKER_04Oh, I think it's sort of time, but yeah, well they just got they have the servers and the space upon space for it. So I mean realistically, who's storing a hundred hours of PVR time?
SPEAKER_02Well well, no, but I uh yes, I I know what you're saying, I agree, but but okay, let's say uh hey, let's say I'm uh let's say I broke my leg and I'm sitting at home with the uh I can't do anything else, so I want to stream uh YouTube TV. Well, it won't take me long to get through a hundred hours of TV. Yeah, that's true. You know, so that's what I mean. So you pay this money for a hundred hours, uh does it re like do you if once you get to a hundred hours, you have to pay for it again?
SPEAKER_04Oh no, no, no. You know, a hundred hours of P VR save time. So you can watch the TV as long as you want.
SPEAKER_01Okay, duh.
SPEAKER_04But P VR recording time.
SPEAKER_01I see, I got it.
SPEAKER_04So yeah, yeah, yeah. So yeah. Um a hundred hours is fucking four days solid. You know what I mean? So that's that's pretty easy to do, especially if you're watching a new show. But you get unlimited TV watch time, but you can store up to 100 hours.
SPEAKER_01Oh, okay, I got it. Okay. Yeah. See.
SPEAKER_02So I can record.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, there we go.
SPEAKER_02Dumb guy. Dumb guy, 60, 65-year-old guy here who obviously I don't know what it's all about, so it's good for you to explain it to me.
SPEAKER_04Oh, I I've I probably fucked that up too. So my apologies. But yeah, you get uh you can watch as much as you want, but you can record up to 100 hours.
SPEAKER_02Okay, got it.
SPEAKER_04Yeah. So it pretty much works like a regular P VR that you would have at your house now. Um, so I'm trying to get my mom to convert to that because all she watches is Young and the Restless and Days of Our Lives and all the old school soap operas that's been on since the 1900s.
SPEAKER_02Can't believe those shows are still around, yeah.
SPEAKER_04But uh yeah, she's she's all over that. And every night she talks to her friends on the phone and she's like, Did you see what happened in Young and the Restless? I was like, What the fuck am I doing?
SPEAKER_02That's hilarious. Uh uh Well I'll have to take a closer look at that because I don't know. I mean, not that I I don't, you know, I just think for the amount of TV we watch and for the amount of you know, we see we have Netflix, we've got our movies, and uh, you know, we've got our our stuff to watch, and I just don't know that I need to spend any more money on on streaming, uh entertainment and that sort of stuff. But hey, it sounds like it sounds interesting, it sounds different, so it might be worth checking out.
SPEAKER_04So and uh of course this is probably uh I looked into it about a year ago, so it could be different from now, but and that's right when the pandemic started, because I wanted something to do and try to keep up on local news and stuff, but little did we know, it's fucking everywhere Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, all you can find TikTok, all the news is everywhere. So it's uh it becomes a kind of a pain in the ass. Okay. Um so yeah, that's that. Uh hopefully it's uh you know, if you you're if you if you're on YouTube TV, let us know. Do you love it? Like do you hate it? Uh can we steal your password? Let us know what's up. Uh email us at um if we can find all our information at oldmanhayalaclouds.com.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, for sure. And even even if it's not YouTube TV, I mean what are people you know, everybody everybody knows that there's Apple TV, there's uh Netflix, there's Crave, there's all these different things. Uh here in Canada, of course, uh Americans have even more options. You know, what are what are people how are people consuming all of this uh you know content content, yeah. That's right. Uh you know, because it there's so many options now, and uh, you know, again Disney and HBO and HBO Max and like it just seems like it's never ending and there's just never enough time, there's never enough money. So why What are the best uh options that are out there right now? Like and and why? Like tell us tell us why these these uh these different um sources or services are are so good.
SPEAKER_04And fucking we'll even invite you on the podcast. Come yell with us. I don't care. Let's let's get schooled in some tech. That's I love learning like that. I think that's a great idea. So yeah, and if you want to be a guest, come talk with us. You know, talk tech, you can talk movies. We're gonna bring back music in a little bit. Uh, because we love music and have haven't really touched on that in the last 20-ish episodes, but that's coming back. Uh just life's busy. You moved, I broke my foot. You know, there's just shit going on. Or here's my broken foot update. I'm still learning how to walk. So um I can't like well, I can kind of walk now. Like kind of. I can get from point A to point B. It doesn't hurt. So this is politically incorrect, and I don't know how else to explain it. But if you made it this far and you're listening, thank you. And if you're just joining us, I'm sorry, and I apologize. But here's my story. So I broke my right foot, and I explained to it, my pinky kind of droops. Because I don't know what's wrong. My my my my toes are something's wrong. And my physiotherapist goes, tell me what's wrong with your foot. I'm like, uh, Dan, I think I have a retarded toe. And he just starts laughing. I'm like, it's drooping, he's not all together, I don't know what's happening. And so I'm doing a bunch of exercises and different strengthening exercises to get flexibility back and a bunch of shit. And then I went back on Friday night, because it's the only time I can get in for two hours. And uh he closes the door and he comes up to me softly. So he goes, So, how's your retarded toe? And I'm just like, Oh no. Um the dreaded R word.
SPEAKER_00The dreaded R word, yeah.
SPEAKER_04And uh I'm all I do is sit and well I'm like right now, I'm rolling my foot on this lacrosse ball. It's as big as it's hard, it's top. It's so it helps with plantar fishitis as well as toe mobility, because all my tendons in my foot are all screwed up. So all I do is sit and roll on balls, baby. That sounded bat. I select that sound bitch. Hello. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Roll you roll on balls, okay.
SPEAKER_00Roll on balls. All right. I don't let's move on, okay.
SPEAKER_02We don't need to I don't need to think about that anymore. So so how how is it going with payment for all that kind of stuff? Is uh is work safe still paying for that shit, or because uh they you said that they weren't they were gonna cut you off and all that kind of stuff. Like, are they paying for it still?
SPEAKER_04So I'm actually while while we were talking, I just got a pay stuff from my current last employer. And it looks like they're still paying me, so that's good. I haven't really looked at it. I just double checked it to make sure because I got a bunch of stuff coming up. So I have now been fully paid for everything that I think I get should get paid for. So that's a plus. So I'm just waiting to see. I have to contact my case advisor tomorrow. And I don't know, because they wanted to discount wages or do a bunch of shit. But I I just I to be honest with you, I don't even know how it works. I posted on social media, hey, who works at WorkSafe? Can someone give me a hand? And actually, one of my buddies who I do Song of the Day with, who I didn't know got a job at WorkSafe, and he's been there for yeah since he got let go from radio. Okay. His uh name is Steve Ayers, he was morning host in Cam Loops for five or six years. But uh he now works at WorkSafe, and he was trying to help me out a little bit. But he's the only so much he can do without getting a shit, so I appreciate what he did. But uh he's like he's he said to me they're they're probably not trying to screw you over, they're just trying to protect you as you move forward. So uh the latest info I have is that uh my physiotherapist is gonna extend my claim for another uh month so I can still kind of get physio. Because I have been doing 10 hour days, but I haven't been on my feet as much. This week coming up, I'm doing 10 hour days and I'm on my feet. So that's gonna be uh that's gonna be a full load test to see kind of what happens on my feet. So this week will be a pretty much learning week, and depending how I'm feeling, like there's a certain certain things I can't do yet, but I can't jump, I can't tippy toe and walk, and that's pretty much about it. Because a fracture takes six to ten-ish weeks to heal. So I'm fully healed, but it's just rebuilding the strength around the toward tendons that I'll try to build. And work safe is supposed to get me back to the quality of life that I was at before I broke my foot because I didn't do it on the job. So because I'm not there yet, I still have to keep the claim open and go. It makes my life easier if they if I just be because I'm pretty sure it's just a strength and mobility thing, and I gotta load it because they're making me load it a lot. Like when I go to physio, they put me on the treadmill and I'm running straight for 10 like 10, 15 minutes, just trying to load my foot up and doing a bunch of weird exercises, but just trying to put weight on my foot. So I'm really trying I think I think it's just I think it's gonna come back in time. And no one knows what the time frame is like, because it's tendon damage, it's soft tissue damage. Yeah. So who really knows how that how long that takes to heal or whatever happens, but I hope that I recover soon and I can tiptoe and jump and get ready for I really got into hiking last summer. So I would love to do a couple hikes. But I don't even know, because you said you mentioned today that uh you were out and about and it was uh wasn't busy. I was at IKEA this afternoon and it was a fucking shit show.
SPEAKER_02So Oh, we did go to IKEA too, actually. We went this morning though, and it wasn't busy. It wasn't too bad.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, I was there at uh 12 30 ish, and it was a shit show.
SPEAKER_02We were gone by then, so yeah. It was probably the same same one we went to, the Richmond one then.
SPEAKER_04Uh no, I went to Coquitlam.
SPEAKER_02Oh, okay, okay. We were at the Richmond one. We got in and out of there, I think, uh uh at a good time, if you want to put it that way. Because uh you mentioned some news and while I read the news when we got home here and stuff like that, too, that there's another fucking shooting there.
SPEAKER_04So what's going on here?
SPEAKER_02This is fucking ridiculous, yeah.
SPEAKER_04Is it gangs? Like so if you're just joining us, we are uh podcasting live from Vancouver, British Columbia. There's been multiple targeted gang shootings here in the last week, and the news that broke this afternoon was there was a shooting at the Vancouver airport, and police closed all major routes in and out of Richmond, including SkyTrain, all the bridges, the Massey Tunnel, even as far as the Queensborough Bridge and Alex Fraser Bridge. So they were looking for someone. So that's again to me that sounds like I mean, I'm no new broadcaster, this is pure speculation at this point, so don't quote me on this, but to me it sounds like that someone went by over the drive-by shooting, shot a couple people, and fucking booked it. So I think that's what it sounds like to me. What does it sound like to you?
SPEAKER_02Well, uh I I don't know much more than you, other than it sounds like it was at the domestic terminal at the Vancouver International Airport, and I don't know if it was inside or outside. So uh and the only other thing I heard is that one person's been killed. So yeah. Um but yeah, these things it's it these things are be targeted. It seems like there's one almost every single day. Like there was one out in Burnaby again yesterday. Yep. Um this is happening at least at least once a week for the past three or four or five weeks or or whatever. So they're all targeted. Um people are getting killed. Yeah. And uh that's that's pretty shitty. But the the the thing is a lot of these are taking place in very public areas, and uh one of these days s some innocent person's gonna get killed. And uh well then that's when it's obviously pretty bad. I mean, it's I mean it's pretty bad already, but but the you know that this bullshit's happening. I just can't uh you know again, it's just uh I don't know what we talk I talked about it last week or I mentioned it last week. Like some people are fucked up and some people got a s fucking screw loose or something like that. But like like who who what the fuck is wrong with you that you you you go out and do this shit? Like I don't know. I don't get it.
SPEAKER_04And and correct me if I'm wrong, like I know that I mean targeted shootings and gang wars have been going on for years upon years upon years, but before it used to be like be more low-key or be more in the you know 11 p.m. 12 p.m. time frame, like late night when there's not enough people. But they're like like the Langley one is now referred to Gangly, but it's still Langley, and that was like 3 p.m. on a you know, i at at a Toys R Us parking lot, yeah. Now the Vancouver Airport, and the one at Walmart close to where I am, Walmart in 70 seconds, uh Scott Road in 70 seconds. And like these are like it's in between 12 and 12 p.m. like noon and six p.m. like all these shootings, and that's prime out time. So they just don't care anymore. And you're right, people are screw loose or or whatever the hell's going on, just it's a money thing for sure, but it's just it's becoming more and more it's hitting closer and closer to home now. Not like I was saying it was bef was it before, but the fact that it's happening in daylight, and you, me, your brother, my sister, whoever the hell else could be out and no one's safe anymore. It's you gotta be really around with your surroundings and stuff. And what's crazy about this is I read an editorial piece and I forget who it was by, but it was on the Vancouver Sun. And they're saying a lot of people are walking around with their headphones on, the music's so loud in your ears, they can't hear what's going on. And that's a gunshot. I don't know if you've ever heard a gunshot or fired a gun or they're fucking loud. And for you not to hear that in your music as you're walking by, that's just uh, you know, turn your music down a little bit, kids, or you know, get a sound system install on your car and roll the windows down so you can hear everything. But yeah, you know, uh but don't yeah, it's it's getting crazy, like the nose, noise, on noise isolating headphones and stuff like you can't hear shit with those things on.
SPEAKER_02That's a that's a really good point, and it's something that I refuse to do. I I cannot walk around, I can't walk down the street with headphones in my ear. I never go skating with headphones on or earbuds or anything like that. Uh, and it's for that very reason I want to be, especially skating, it's it's more of a safety thing for me. It's not because I think there's gonna be a shooting when I go out skating, it's because I want to be fully aware of what's going on around me. I want to be aware of cyclists who are being fucking assholes and uh doing stupid things on the pathways or roadways. I want to be aware of vehicles uh uh when they're around me and stuff like that. But even when I'm walking down the street, and I and I've you know I've there it's not like I haven't tried it. Like I have done it. I've like if you walk to work and you put your headphones on and walk down the street, and I just uh you know what? I don't like it. I I don't feel comfortable, and it's for that reason. It's just I I just like to to know what's going on around me at all times. So I I don't yeah.
SPEAKER_04I know some people don't care, but why I'm with you now, and now that like especially back in the like of a couple weeks ago, like the targeted or not targeted, but the ladies who were being stalked in the parks and stuff, like it's just if you have your headphones on, how are you supposed to see or hear or what's going on? Like the your headphones off, like I used to walk to the Black Tower when I was living downtown and I was a twenty minute walk and I would never walk with headphones because I was walking at four in four in the morning. Right. And uh if I were walking home during it, because I was on mostly sidewalks, and I'm not a dick to jaywalk, I would put my headphones on. But if it was dark or rainy or something like that, I'd always have my I wouldn't use music. Yeah because of that reason. Because one, and also like I just don't trust other drivers. Yeah, exactly. You can't you can't hear them with your headphones on.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_04Um if it's a busier day, you know, uh or and it's the sun's up, even though like it was a short 15-minute walk, you pretty much have a pretty much routine. So I felt okay with that, but in the mornings or any odd times, had no headphones. I'm with you. I wanna I used to do a lot of biking downtown, no headphones. Because you gotta be able to hear the other drivers, uh, cyclists, passengers, whatever the hell is going on. Yeah. So I I'm like you too. So yeah, it's just uh it's a different world up there with these headphones, and everyone's attached to the phones. You know, it's uh it's just one of those things. Skis, wallet, phone, mask when you leave the house, you know. It's just one of those things these days.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. Yeah, yeah. So uh like I don't know, and and some some people drive with earbuds in their ears and stuff like that. I mean it's it's bad enough when you have your music cranked in your vehicle, but if you've got earbuds in while you're driving, well shame on you. I think that's so fucking dangerous. And uh I don't know, is is it against the law? Is it uh yeah, I think it should be if it's not. I don't know that it that it is.
SPEAKER_04So I think there's some sort of law for it. I think there's a exception you can drive with it, but it has to be like an audiobook or something. I don't know. I don't I remember there's one of back in the Sea Fox era days, we had a listener bitch about that. Yeah. Uh he said he wasn't listening to music, it was podcasts or something like that. But uh Yeah, I don't know. And the argument is, well, if I'm listening to my stereo in my car, why can't I listen to headphones? I'm like, well, your stereo is coming from speakers that are around you, and the headphones are right through your head. So you can't if someone were to honk with you and your stereo is going in your car, you would probably hear it more than you would hear honking in your ear or whatever it is to warn you or something like that. Because we're all human, we all fuck up, it's one of those it's human nature. So, and you know, the horn is there to give us a warning, and if you can't hear that horn, you're using losing that warning and something bad can happen. So I think that was kind of the reason behind it. But yeah, that's that'd be cool to further research that. Maybe maybe I'll look into that. Maybe I'll report back. I'll make it off of myself. Okay, you do that. Headphones while driving. Right. Because I'm actually curious, because yeah, there's uh yeah. Um how do we get here? I don't know. I don't know.
SPEAKER_02We've been we've been bouncing around, but that's okay. That's what we do.
SPEAKER_04That's okay. Talk to you about hockey. How's hockey going? What's going on? I'll talk to you about the big ass fight because you're a hockey guy, you're for fighting in the game. We talked about this maybe about 15-20 episodes ago. Uh so I forget the teams who were playing. It was Columbus and Washington?
SPEAKER_02No, this was Washington and the New York Rangers.
SPEAKER_04Washington and New York Rangers, and there was some sort of kerfuffle, and some guy got in the ground and pounded some other guy. Who were the players? What happened with that?
SPEAKER_02Well, so that was that was kind of the beginning of it, I think, though. Yeah. So it was uh so Washington Capitals, New York Rangers. Uh and one of the there was a scrum after the whistle in front of the Nets. Like, so I think, you know, I think guys were digging at the pucker, you know, the goalie had it covered up, and guys were digging away. And um one of them was uh Pavel Buchnevich from uh the New York Rangers, and he he kind of got knocked to the ice and um Tom Wilson from the Washington Capitals just started pushing his face uh kind of into the ice. Yeah. From you know, from from on like he's on top of them or from above, and and um you know, just kind of slamming in his head into the ice and stuff. And you know what? That that particular part of it wasn't the worst of it. And you know, it's you know, certain certainly what you shouldn't be doing that, but you know, I've seen worse for sure, and we've all seen worse uh during a hockey game. But but from there it really took off. Like it was basically uh kind of uh all players involved, um and and then I think Tom Wilson got into it with some other players, and then eventually um oh, what's his name from uh Panarin? Uh Panarin from the Rangers jumped Tom Wilson from behind, and Panarin's a pretty good player. Well, he's he's one of the superstars of the league, and you know that shouldn't give you a pass. And I'm gonna talk about Kevin Kevin Bieksa because he he kind of put it this way as well. And and I certainly don't agree with everything Bieksa said about this incident, but anyways, you know, he did say that you know being a superstar doesn't make give you a free pass to go out in there and do whatever you want. But uh, but basically but he's a smaller player, like he's not a fighter, he's not he's a much smaller player compared to Tom Wilson. Tom Wilson is he's a scrapper, he's a pretty talented player. He can he can handle the puck well and and score some goals, and but but he's a tough guy too. And you know, he is known for his fights, he's been suspended in the past for various incidents. But he he basically started throwing around Panarin like a ragdoll. He he he he the first the first thing was uh Panarin's helmet came flying off and then he got slammed to the ice. Well, he's lucky that his head didn't crack the ice surface because uh he he could have been very seriously injured. And from there, he basically was just tossing them all over the place for you know for a few seconds. Uh there were a few times during the whole thing where he could have seriously injured another player. Uh and again, a player who's who's who doesn't fight. You know, I I think that that so that's the key thing. So basically from there, what happened is uh I think he got um did he get kicked out of that game? No, he didn't. I think he got I don't know, I think he got maybe two minutes roughing. I I don't know what his penalties were, but he wasn't kicked out of the game. Everybody was calling for a suspension uh because of his uh aggression and and what he did that night during that game. Uh he got a five thousand dollar fine, or he got a very insignificant fine, and that's it, no suspension, and that really pissed off a lot of people around around hockey. Uh not only teams but fans. And uh people were pretty pissed off that uh the NHL didn't s uh issue any other discipline, really. A couple thousand bucks out of a player's pocket isn't gonna do nothing. Yeah, that makes it a whole game. Yeah, so so obviously that's that's kind of what started off a fucking big circus during the week because it really it's it it that's all everybody talked about for a whole week. And what happened was because there was no discipline, uh essentially um the the the those two teams played each other a couple nights later, and sure enough, right off the opening face-off, there were three scraps right away. Like the players all dropped their gloves and three fights over the next uh four minutes. There were another three fights, including yeah, so in six in total, uh one of the New York Rangers players did go after um did go after Tom Wilson. Uh he eventually, I think he got he eventually got two minutes and then a 10-minute misconduct or or something like that. Um and then I don't think he came back and played for the rest of the game. They the the the team claimed that he had some sort of injury and that he was uh uh he he was gone for the game. But uh I I think they probably were smart and they probably kept him out of the rest of the game on purpose. Uh he probably wasn't injured at all. In fact, I don't think he was. He played the next game and stuff like that. Anyway, anyway, long story short, I think the NHL really fucked up on this. And uh he's probably the most hated hated player in the league right now, and he's probably the dirtiest player in the league. Um you know uh hey, I'm a I'm a Boston Bruins fan. Uh everybody knows about uh Marchand. Uh and yeah, he did some pretty stupid things in his career, and he's been suspended for it. Uh, but he's he's a different player, he's matured, he's a much better hockey player than Tom Wilson is or ever will be. Um, you know, and he's considered a leader of that team right now, and he's really grown up, he's really changed, and um, you know, I think he still likes to get under under the skin of uh the opponents at times, but he he doesn't carry on with the antics that he used to. Uh Tom Wilson, on the other hand, it seems like he's never gonna learn. Yeah. And even his comments following uh everything that happened last week, he basically said that he doesn't get it and he's just trying to move on, and um you know you know, he he's not gonna listen to what anybody else says, and he's gonna stick up for his for his teammates uh you know matter no matter what. So uh anyways, that's kind of the short story of everything. Uh because there's some other stuff that happened, but anyway.
SPEAKER_04Yeah. So what are your thoughts on it? Do you are you for like I don't mind I don't mind ha like a f if the game's going on and the if it's um in the heat of the moment, if there's a fight, I don't mind that. But to have a deliberate fight right off the face off like that, I kind of see a little bit of a problem with that. It's not a boxing fucking game, it's a hockey game. Yeah, you know, they should have again there could have been different actions taken. There could have been a like if the league stepped in and suspended the guy and fined him a million dollars or something, that would have shut the fuck up and people would have gone on with their lives. But that never would have happened. I don't know what the at rule for that is. I'm not really the biggest sports guy, so I don't really know, but it's a personal like I don't mind a fight in the heat of the moment in the game. You're bullying whatever players, whatever the fuck it is, cheap shots, whatever it is. Tempers are gonna flare. I'm all for that. But deliberate face-off fights like that, uh, I kind of have an issue with that a little bit. I understand why it happened because the league wasn't in it and the guy wasn't disciplined, and all the press stuff I read about afterwards, he was being a dick about it. So yeah, let's let's you know, but that's a possibility now of three or six more players getting injured. Fight's a fight, man. You could, you know, what happens if someone uh Billy Madison's or Happy Gilmore's a guy and tries to take his skate off and fight cut him with it, or something like that. You know, like it could get crazy. You can get knocked out the wrong way, hit the ice wrong, and you know, it's uh it becomes a way bigger problem than if the NHL. just get stuck in and did something. And I think like you said earlier, I think that's where people got pissed off is because the NHL didn't really do much. Like a $5,000 fine is nothing. Especially for a hockey player who's making $30 million a year or whatever the fuck it is after over five years or whatever.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. Well I I think I think that's the I think you said it is that is that um the if the NHL had had to issued some sort of discipline to to Wilson like they should have all of those staged fights wouldn't have happened. At least certainly not the three off the bat or off the opening face-off to the game that's for sure. So you know so that's where the players kind of take it in their own hands and yeah you could say that you know they were staged and and I don't know I don't know did did they did they kind of I guess they must have planned it at some point or at least at the at least at the face off dot they said okay well let's go and they both think they both agreed. I mean so that's the thing you may not like that and I've said in the past that I have no problem with fighting in hockey and it's and it can be part of the game and it can get your team going. It can get your your team fired up in some ways right um I I have no what I you know what I don't have a problem with with the scraps that happened. Yeah um you know it's uh I don't know it's uh I do have a I do have a problem with you know again with with what Tom Wilson did. Tom Wilson's a uh he's a he's a loose cannon. And every couple years or every three or four or five years there's players who come along and who like him who are they're going to seriously injure a another player one of these days. And you know that's the sort of stuff that the league is trying to get rid of and and here you have a player who's like that who and and they did nothing about it. And let me get to Kevin Bieksa and so actually actually actually actually I I don't want to just talk about him. What I want to talk about related to this incident is the fact that last night on Hockey Night in Canada during one of the intermissions they dedicated their this and their you know the entire segment to the this shit that happened during the week. And so they've got their panel in place and they all talk about you know how how they feel or you know they of course went through all the highlights and all that kind of stuff and they talked about what happened. What I really liked was the fact that you had uh what one two three four you had four panelists basically um going through what happened and giving their opinion and and their thoughts and stuff like that. I thought it was a really good debate and I just I think it's something that we uh you don't see very often. I I mean there's there's a lot of different guests and panelists on these uh during these intermissions on C BC and Sportsnet and some of the other other major networks and stuff in the States and you know I I just think you you don't you rarely see these debates about about the game or in this case a particular incident and I think it was really cool to have the everybody talk about and share their thoughts and you know some of these players or people like Biexa has played the game and he's fought other players he's fought Tom Wilson you know so he you you know you kind of look at to him for some I'm not saying he's right but you look to you look you you look to him for yeah some some insight and some you know just their thought process behind the whole thing.
SPEAKER_05Yeah.
SPEAKER_02He was actually although he didn't necessarily like what happened he he basically was on side with with what Tom Wilson did and didn't overall think that discipline or further discipline was necessary. But it was a good debate because um well they kind of ganged up on him the other the other panelists because because he was on his own I don't think anybody else thought that um nobody else agreed with him so and and one of the other panelists is uh is uh a woman named Jennifer Botterill. Okay I don't know if I pronounce her name properly Botteril she's a uh she's a former uh women's hockey player for Team Canada um she does a lot of uh commentary uh uh now on sportsnet uh in but in intermissions and stuff like that she's actually quite good you you do you are seeing a lot of women now um well lots of new people period but you are seeing a lot of women uh stepping into this role and I think it's really good overall it's it's really good I I don't think all of them are necessarily all that good but you know they don't have a lot of experience or anything like that so you have to start somewhere right but excuse me but I think she's really good she speaks really well she knows the game really well uh and I think she brought up a lot of good points. Now I don't necessarily agree with everything she said either. Yeah of course um but I think I think the main thing the main part of this is that it was a really good debate and you don't s you you just don't see this uh happen very often where all all of the panelists kind of go through something and kind of critique it and give their opinions and it was really good so um you know maybe we'll see more of that and maybe I think I'm sure that clip is out there somewhere on the internet. I'm sure it's easy to find you can go out and watch it and stuff like that and check it out for yourselves. But I think um anyway Tom Wilson's a douchebag and uh it it's certainly at this point back to the game itself it looks like well there's still a couple games left this week but it looks like Boston might be playing Washington in the first round of the playoffs. And if they do I hope somebody kicks the shit out of Tom Wilson. So yeah. Yeah we'll see what happens that how are your Bruins doing this season uh you know they're playing pretty well they've had their ups and downs uh lately they've been fairly good uh again a couple of shitty games like yesterday they fucking shit the bed against uh against those New York Rangers uh they lost you know but that division is so tough right now I think all four teams there's four teams they're already in the playoffs I think they're within five points of each other and I don't think Boston will not get first place now because they lost that game yesterday um so they could still finish as high as second in the division uh or they can finish as low as fourth in the division. Yeah if they finish fourth they're gonna play Pittsburgh in the first round uh and again right now it's just a kind of a toss-up but it could it could end up being uh Washington Boston in the first round and uh that'll be a damn good series. Actually I'm looking forward to the playoffs as a whole uh there's some really good teams this year uh the hockey's been really good uh I'm glad they were able to COVID uh was kind of uh you know it it played a part in the season but uh the players stuck with it and um it's been fun so I'm I'm looking forward to the playoffs and they'll the playoffs will start it's it's weird because the Canucks obviously because of their long layoff they're gonna be playing some games into next weekend I think and maybe even the following week a little bit but they're out of the playoffs. I'm not gonna say those games don't mean anything because they do when it comes to positioning like draft position and all that kind of stuff. The players still have pride and all that kind of stuff but uh the playoffs will already be underway and they'll still be trying to finish off their season which kind of sucks uh I know but um it's very weird it is it is weird but that's yeah the kind of season it's been so anyway I love hockey um I'll be watching the playoffs for sure I'm looking forward to it yeah I always watch the Stanley I always watch the Stanley Cup playoff game because it's always good especially if it's a good tilt.
SPEAKER_04Yeah you know you you kind of follow I always watch the sports highlights and it gets cool and that's how I found out about the fights because I follow this um YouTube account that's hockey fights and it was just blowing up yeah so yeah notifications upon notifications.
SPEAKER_02One real quick thing to to finish up on here when it comes to hockey I won both of my fantasy hockey leagues. I finished off in first place in the after the playoffs yep so hey so what do you get 100 bucks 200 bucks the first the one league was one league is bragging rates so that's fine. But the other league I think uh first prize was 240 bucks I think or 220 bucks or I don't know something like that.
SPEAKER_04So that's uh that's a nice yeah yeah that was pretty cool.
SPEAKER_02I did I I did I did pretty good so that's pretty good. It's fun it's it is fun obviously if there's a little cash involved you you know you want to you want to do well you want to win but overall yeah I I just love playing it so it keeps you it keeps you going throughout the season. It keeps you uh informed of all the news and the players and who's doing what and who's injured and who's not and yeah it's really cool. You learn a lot you learn a lot about the game for sure.
SPEAKER_04Yeah and it really keeps you invested. That yeah for sure yeah yeah and that's that's why when I did it back in the day I just would just so like I again I'm not really the biggest sports guy I'll follow the local teams but uh when I was in a couple pools I was super invested on how the other people were doing and what they were doing. I didn't make an effort to watch the highlights of the games like the four minute recap to see how they're doing or the fights or the cool goals. Like I love the I love the skill that the players have in hockey or the cool saves or any of the fluky moments of it but yeah it's it's good. Yeah for sure um I do want to touch on something before we wrap it up here two weeks ago Apple released uh 14.5 which fixed a bunch of privacy and ask you for tracking and stuff. Yes but I saw in the news that Google announced four major privacy and cybersecurity updates that everyone needs to know about um I know they've in fact or and you're a Samsung guy you're an Android guy uh Google guy for the most part because it's an Android operating system. So they have now introduced two-factor authentication by default. They have now done uh privacy labels and Android apps. They have done something with Chrome uh some sort of like exploit protection I forget what the actual big thing is and they've also done cosigning for container images.
SPEAKER_02Okay.
SPEAKER_04I I think that's a super again everyone's so I don't know who's copying who if it was just a step in the natural direction but either way that's a win for Apple and a win for Google slash Android because they are trying to minimize your privacy or yeah privacy and try to up your security for all the all the stuff that's happening.
SPEAKER_02Yeah for sure yeah I think um I think Google probably did copy Apple when it comes to the um to to the second point you made about uh the the apps in the app store and just for it's it's important for vendors to uh indicate what information is being collected um from those who decide to use though you their apps right so yeah so that's that that's huge and Apple kick that off and I think it's a uh it's a great thing and it's a it's a way for people to start understanding you know what's happening uh when they connect to the internet when they use their phone when they are um downloading apps and that sort of thing so um yes it's it's a good start it's it's it's in the news people are talking about it it's important for people to pay attention and to check out those settings um in in the apps and to be aware of what permissions are required or what permissions you know you don't want to give up or or you don't want these apps to you know be able to do certain things that will end up tracking you. I don't think that's rolled out yet on Android. I think the announcement was that it's coming anyways yeah uh the two factor authentication is really cool they're basically forcing all people who use Google accounts to to enable two factor authentication. Yep. I already have it enabled of course so it's not it's something I'm I've been using for years now and I use it on all my accounts where I where I'm able to um so that's that's cool. Yeah. Yep. Yeah everything they're doing is obviously great news um you know it's still Google and they're still tracking you and collecting all kinds of other information. Still the overlord of the shit but it's a step in the right direction it's it it it this stuff does help there's there's no question. So um it it it helps with these other third party vendors again so uh Google will still be Google and will still collect your data and track your your information but at least these other smaller companies aren't able to do the same so you know again it's a step in the right direction. So that's yeah that's really cool. That's it. Yeah it's good stuff.
SPEAKER_04We've been japping for an hour. It's crazy all time flies with us.
SPEAKER_02Anything else you want to touch on before we wrap up I just want to talk about uh Tani Katayan uh she she passed away yes yesterday it was announced yesterday I don't know when they when this happened um it may have happened yesterday I don't know and if you are any sort of music fan and if you are any sort of uh warm-blooded male I guess uh without without uh you you will know who she is from the MTV days back in the 1980s. Uh yep everybody knows um well people may not know that it was her that was featured on the cover of a couple of rat albums uh but everybody does know her for her uh role in the White Snake videos um do we ever here I go again so yeah that's the big one of course so um that made the band and her quite popular although she was pretty popular already she she had already starred in a role in a major movie role opposite Tom Hanks because I think that came out a couple years prior um uh that movie of course is it was Bachelor Party which of course I yeah for sure I watched it at some point but I can't even remember it now so it may be one of those shows that I'll have to go back and revisit. Anyway so I think she was 59 uh she passed away they haven't said why or how how it happened at this point. She did have issues in the past and I'm not sure if this is related to any of that but not that it matters it's still pretty it's too bad it's 59 is too young so yeah it's uh that sucks that sucks uh that's music related I guess uh in a way well it is music related for sure because she she was she was married to I think the drummer from Rat uh for a bit she was married to David Coverdale from Whitesnake um yeah so it sucks so rest in peace um yeah that's uh I I think uh I think you said the best if you're any red or male in the night here oh what's in the still of the night that's the other song she was in the music video. Yeah that's still my favorite white snake song is it yep and what you call uh Hailstorm actually covered that song oh okay uh and I'm a big hailstorm fan when I heard that I'm like oh this is awesome because they added pitch harmonics and I'm I'm a big fan of pitch harmonics you put pitch harmonics in any song it's automatically the best song I've ever heard yeah I don't know that I've heard their version of it so oh look it up I'll check is there any uh music you're listening to off the top of your head uh let me see there there is some stuff that my release radar has been kind of fucked up off and on these past little little bit uh okay so I'll tell you what happened here real quick I know you want to go what what happened is like a while back I think it's when we first moved into this place um I didn't have my noise machine like my white noise we've got an old like white noise device that that is like 30 or 40 years old or something like that and it it works great it's just basic stuff it's like your basic white noise or it might be um uh thunderstorms or it might be the ocean waves crashing or whatever anyways I love that thing I it's it's great it's obviously it was packed up when we moved and I couldn't find it right away so what I ended up doing was I went to Spotify and started searching for different playlists and um different I won't say artists but different people who produced this white noise type um sound and I started playing some of this stuff uh on my phone during the night while I was sleeping uh and this stuff is great the problem is it has really fucked up my release radar playlist because because it would be inserting all of these different tracks these white noise tracks basically I mean some of them are cool like rainbow or not rainbow like rainforest sounds and uh thunderstorms and rain and you know some other some other stuff but it would start putting this stuff in my release radar playlist every week and it was pissing me off and I think there it got so bad that I think one week out of the 30 songs that they put in your playlist I think maybe twenty five of them were all of this white noise shit. And it yeah it's it's frustrating because I go to my release radar playlist every single week and I look forward to some of the new tracks that are coming out and new songs and stuff like that. And um it sucks it sucks so yeah I thought it got a little bit better last week or the week before but I'm looking at my playlist again for this week and I'm counting like one two three four five six seven eight nine ten eleven twelve like there's there's probably 15 tracks here that are 12 or 15 tracks that are this white noise bullshit. So it's kind of um yeah it's kind of got me a little annoyed. So kind of pissed off about it. Kind of pissed off about it. But uh here's one track that that I really like and I actually I think I may have even discovered it I don't know if it was in my playlist last week or the week before or if I saw it someplace else but one track that's really fucking cool right now is a cover song by Dave Grohl and his daughter Violet. Oh yes they are covering a song called Nausea by the LA punk band X. This song goes way back to the early 80s and um you know you know how I feel about Dave Grohl I'm not the biggest fan and I don't like pumping his tires and nice guy I know but you know I don't you know I just yeah whatever it's just like people need to get off over it. But this song is really cool. I mean it it doesn't it stays true to the the song and to punk rock and you know so they're not doing anything different here. Yep but she sounds really well it's a great it's a it's a just a really cool song. They do an awesome job of it. So um go go check that out. Now they were on they did a live version on was it Kimmel? Yeah I think it was Jimmy Kimmel.
SPEAKER_04So actually what was cool about what that was uh was Chris played bass uh Dave Lombardo was on drums and I don't know who is on the keyboards um maybe you know I'm not sure it sounds like you've seen it so yeah I yeah but I just like the fact that they brought Chris Nvasaric back from Nirvana days and he's a big punk guy they he influenced the punk scene for uh the Nirvana days and Dave Lombardo of course was there yeah no kidding it was so that was really cool yeah and it was really neat to see him play such a small drum kit yeah because you think of watching Slayer alive as the hugest drum kit you've ever seen in your life and he played a triple five piece yeah and it's and I've always loved that about Dave Grohl say what you want about his songwriting and guitar playing but he beat the shit out of a five piece drum and it was he was it was super fun to watch him play drums. So but yeah he was playing guitar and uh in that performance and uh doing backups with his daughter singing and his daughter seems to have a cool voice so it's cool. So she's doing vocal or she's doing a bunch of work. James Hefffield daughter is doing a bunch of stuff as well. Yeah. They do it's all these unplugged shows they bring their daughters up on stage and do a bunch of stuff. So yeah that's um it's cool to that there was one more other daughter who was doing some shit I forget now.
SPEAKER_02Uh Chris Cornell's daughter.
SPEAKER_04Yes yeah exactly yeah Lily Cornell she's done a bunch of cool stuff yeah uh I wish she would release she did a cover of uh say hello to heaven to uh because the Temple of Dog album turned thirty a couple weeks ago yeah uh and she did a cover of sta it's on her Instagram but it's too short. It's like a minute thirty. I want to hear the full version of it. I think that'd be fucking fantastic.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. I actually revisited that album uh w uh three weeks two weeks ago or whatever that's the anniversary date uh uh was yeah me too I revisited that and it's such a cool album. It's it's um it it's really good. There's some good songs there for sure. And uh it's just kind of neat how it all came together and um you know, just like a one-off thing, right? A one-off tribute thing, and yet it was so it was so good.
SPEAKER_04Well the world-class musicians doing it, and uh I I've like again I listened to the album, I forgot about it, and then I realised the remastered version of it, and the song Reach Down or Reach Out or Yeah, oh it's ten minutes, it's like a tool font. Yeah, but it's it's so good.
SPEAKER_02I uh I flagged that one for um uh for one of my music nights. It was that song, yeah, for sure. Yeah, uh because it's so good. It's a great song. Yeah, so um, yeah, so good stuff. Uh I The Dictators, another punk band from the early 70s, and they were still around up until well, up until I was gonna say up until recently, but three of the members have gotten back together again and are recording music again. So they've released a couple songs. So that was uh that's been on my on my playlists. Um oh uh sorry, I have to bring this up. One more thing. And uh I don't know why I didn't s add it to the list that I sent you earlier because there were some things that I definitely wanted to talk about. I forgot about this. I you're not gonna believe this either. Oh shit. I yeah, you won't. I actually purchased a concert ticket. Holy shit! What did you get? Uh I purchased a concert ticket for a band called All Them Witches. I I've talked at the Commodore. So I've talked about this band before. Uh I've seen them a couple times before. Such a great band. Um here here's how this kind of went down. You know me. I I wasn't really planning to be. I really wasn't planning on going to shows. Uh I didn't not want to fucking deal with Ticketmaster at all again. If uh if I could ever avoid them, I was going to try and do it as much as possible. No, I just I just I just didn't anticipate going to another show again. I really did not. I know I I talk about it all the time. I s I said I I said that I never say never. Um but I really did not anticipate buying another ticket. Not certainly not now when when I did, that's for sure. So here here's how it went down. Um as you know, I've been doing this music night uh almost well every couple weeks. Uh at least once a month. Yeah, at least once a month, anyways. A bunch of great guys from Cam Loops. Uh well we started it here shit 20 years ago here in Vancouver. Uh he carried it on to Camloops when he moved there. Now we're doing it online, of course. Uh most of the guys do live in Camloops. There's a couple of us here in Vancouver, a couple people on the island. Um it's a smaller group, but anyways, they're all fans of this band, all them witches as well. Uh they they are making a road trip to Vancouver uh to see this show. Yeah, I think it's next February, February 2020. I don't know what the exact dates are. It's a ways away. Uh so they're making a road trip. Uh a couple of these guys I've never met in person before. Um so I figured I figured fuck it. You know what? You know what? You know what? We get together and we listen to cool tunes once a month or whenever it is. Uh I've kind of seen these guys online, and uh, you know, you kind of get to know people a little bit like that.
SPEAKER_04And um hey, if they're coming here for a road trip, uh might as well walk down the street and join them sort of yeah, yeah, exactly, exactly.
SPEAKER_02You know, if if it's going to be possible, maybe we can catch up for some dinner beforehand or whatever it is, right? Yeah, okay. And then go and enjoy some live music. And uh I I I uh I guess in a way I'm excited, but you know, at the same time, the way I was carrying on about the Commodore Ball room. You know what? You know what? When I found out it was at the Commodore and Ticketmaster, I said right away, like fuck uh like what you know you know the way Ticketmaster's policy is during COVID here for for postponed shows. I'm never gonna see my fucking money again, right? So uh anyway.
SPEAKER_04Well, one it's it's cheap-ish, it was like 60-ish bucks.
SPEAKER_02Uh I ended up uh purchasing two tickets with the service charges. I think it was 70 bucks for two tickets. Like so, I think it's I think it's 25 bucks each plus the service charges. So, yeah, I think it was 70 bucks for two tickets. So that's not too bad.
SPEAKER_04That's not too bad.
SPEAKER_02For the Commodore, that's that's a pretty decent price because we all know some shows got pretty expensive there.
SPEAKER_04So yeah.
SPEAKER_02Uh so we'll see. We'll see what happens. We'll see when the shows start coming back, and we'll see. That's still what how many months away is that? Fuck, that's seven, eight, nine months away still? I don't know. Something like that.
SPEAKER_04Lots can happen, but we'll see. I still think it's March 2020. I don't even know what the fucking day it is, to be honest. Everything's all the same day. Like you said 2022. I'm like, well, I thought we were still I had to think about that for a second. It's May 2021, May the 9th, 2021. Yeah. So uh crazy. Yeah. Well, uh the first one out of the two of us. To be honest with you, the girlfriend and I were talking about she her favorite band is Lamb of God. Yeah, cool. And they released a new album uh maybe about a year ago. Uh, but they're doing this the beat the Metal Gods tour. It's Megadeth, Lamb of God, In Flames, and Trivia.
SPEAKER_02Oh, cool.
SPEAKER_04So it's a US debate. So she was gonna go down to Auburn to see the show, but it got cancelled because of COVID and all that shit. Yeah. And who knows if we'll be able to cross the border. But I'm like, well, we're all working now, we went into Friday, whatever it is. But they're playing in some weird spot. But it the train or plane tickets out there is like 200 bucks. That's a little extreme. Hop on a plane, negotiate a show in a new city that you don't know what the fuck's going on, and then come back the next day like a weekend trip. I probably would have said yes in a heartbeat pre-COVID, but now post-COVID, like I don't know what to think about that. Yeah. If they were in Seattle, I'd consider it, but yeah, I just I'm like you, I still don't know what to do about the shows. Um yeah, I I just I just don't know. I still technically have my Rolling Stones purchased, my Rolling Stones tickets purchased at PC Place whenever that show gets re-reannounced. Uh, but I don't know. I haven't heard any news on that. I'm assuming they're all dead.
SPEAKER_02Well, or or they will be by the time they will be, who knows?
SPEAKER_04But uh yeah, we'll see what happens for that. But that's if anything, and I don't even know if I'm gonna go to that one yet. But uh But I mean, positives, me and you have been vaccinated, everyone else is being vaccinated. Have you got your call back for your second shot yet? Or is that coming?
SPEAKER_02No, we've registered because now you have to register regardless of like they when when we got it, when we got our first shot, they said, Oh, they'll text us when we're when we can come in for the second shot. Uh but now they've changed it so that everybody needs to register online for their second shot. Now that doesn't that doesn't that doesn't tell you when you don't you don't actually book an appointment at that point, you just register saying, hey, I've had my first shot, I'm registering for my second one whenever I am eligible, I guess. And then and and then once you register, they will contact you when they're ready, either by email or text, uh, whatever option you choose, I guess. So uh so you do need to register for your second shot.
SPEAKER_04Oh shit, I'll get to do that. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I think uh I forget what the website is, but yeah, you go to go to the you go to the website, I'm sure it's easy to find uh simple information that you fill out. It's it takes a couple minutes, that's all. So easy. Anyway, so I'm hoping that'll happen in let's see. We we'd be we got vaccinated early April, so uh April, May, June, end of June, maybe, end of June, maybe July, we'll get our second shot. But who knows?
SPEAKER_04Yeah, yeah, who knows.
SPEAKER_02Who knows? And uh people are already talking about a fourth wave, people are already talking about booster vaccinations. I mean, that's the thing. Nobody there's the variants out there, nobody knows.
SPEAKER_04Nobody knows.
SPEAKER_02Nobody knows what's gonna happen. So uh it's good to see our numbers coming down, although yeah, I don't know. They came down a little bit, so now they're kind of going up again a little bit, but we're still not as bad as other provinces, other countries. And there's still the question out there about the the information that's been given to us by the government, and and people think the numbers are a lot higher than what we're hearing. So I don't know. I don't know. I I mean I was gonna say, like, who do you believe? But but you have no choice but to believe what the government is is kind of uh giving to us uh on in these daily reports. So that's all we have, that's all the proof we have, that's all the real information we have. So I guess we just have to deal with it. But the the fact is we still have to continue to mask up and be smart, and yeah.
SPEAKER_04Yep. It's all we can do. Yeah. Okay, well, we gotta call this episode. We've been yapping for an hour twenty.
