We bought a freezer. Little freezer. Pretty sweet. It's probably bigger than what we needed, but uh yeah, it's kind of nice.
SPEAKER_02How'd you get it delivered? Did you carry it up like the stairs like the manly man that you are?
SPEAKER_00Well fuck yeah, of course.
SPEAKER_04Why would you want to listen to two old guys yelling at clouds? And the worst thing? One of them likes the Boston Bruins. Ooh, you suck! Like, really likes them. Like sleeps in their jersey. Anyways, if you're still listening, here are Adam and Steven.
SPEAKER_02Yes, welcome all to it, another episode of Old Man Who Yell at Clouds. We are episode number 43. It is November 29th, 2020. My name, of course, is Adam, and I'm joined by fellow old man Steven. Hello, Steven.
SPEAKER_00Hi, Adam. Ready to fucking yak your ass off?
SPEAKER_02Oh, yak all the time, baby.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, I thought so.
SPEAKER_02I'm good. I got my fidget spinner. I got my sour patch kids good to go. I got my water. We can be hunkered down all night, baby.
SPEAKER_00And I got my uh I got my uh espresso double espresso. With oat milk? With oat milk, fucking right. It's tasty. Have you tried it yet? Have you tried it yet?
SPEAKER_02I I I did. So on my delivery route, there's this lady who I deliver to, and she swears by oat milk. She gets an oat milk latte every morning. So I was like, well, I haven't tried the oat milk. And then I plugged the podcast. I'm like, well, my co-host uses oat milk all the time. And she's like, well, I have it too. It's really, really like thick and it's great for coffees and shit. I'm like, okay, cool. So I'm gonna try it in my mocha. Uh so I got a half sweet oat milk mocha one day. Oh fuck, was it horrible? It was not good. I would not recommend. I would not do not pass go, do not click $500. It was not good.
SPEAKER_00Oh fuck you.
SPEAKER_02Um, yeah, it's just I don't know. Maybe that I could try the oat milk latte. Um, or there's this new apple cider apple something rather. It's probably gonna kill me too, because I'm allergic to apples. But um a friend of mine got uh what was it? Oh, I can't even see. Oh, uh Grande Oat Milk uh uh Grande Apple oat flat white. What? I don't know what the hell that is. It smelled really good and it was hot as fuck, but um I didn't chance it because I didn't want to die because I don't know if it's real apple or fake apple. So but yeah, the Grande Apple Oak Flat White from Starbucks is supposed to be pretty good.
SPEAKER_00It doesn't sound very good. I can't imagine oak uh or apple being in a coffee. Is like so it's so it is a coffee, they use espresso and they put apple in it.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, and whatever a flat white is. Yeah, I don't know what that is. I don't know what a flat white is.
SPEAKER_00That's too fucking fancy, fancy for me.
SPEAKER_02It's too fancy, too fancy. Yeah. Um okay, so this is a very important week. It was Black Friday this week. Did you buy any Black Friday deals?
SPEAKER_00Yeah, well, I well I did. Uh I I bought the the fridge, uh not a fridge. I told you I bought a freezer, uh a little small freezer for our small apartments, and we have a small storage area. Uh the freezer was not on sale, like us, so this wasn't a Black Friday deal by any means, but I thought I'd uh go check it out. I've been look eyeing one up at Costco. Uh so I did that Friday. Friday was a busy day, so yeah, Black Friday. I I took the day off actually. So I'm I took Friday off. I got tomorrow off, too. Nice. So that was that's yeah, that's our plan. So that storage room in in our place is a fucking mess. And in order to get that freezer in there, I have to do a lot of cleaning and purging. So our place is a mess right now. We got shit all over the fucking place. And I know I'm not talking about Black Friday deals or anything like that, but that's been our weekend. Uh, we've been really busy trying to get that tackled. Um, you know, looking at shit, uh it doesn't look like we've got a lot accomplished at to this point. I've made a couple of trips down to the garbage bin already, and uh there's still some work to do, so it'll it'll be a work in progress through the week here. Anyway, anyways, one of my other trips on Friday was to I didn't want to go to Neptune, um, even though it's not that far away. I just didn't feel like hopping on a bus. Uh so after Costco, I made a trip to Beat Beat Street Records. Nice. Um it's so it's downtown here on Hastings Street. Uh so I picked up uh couple things for record store uh Black Friday. So um actually the only record store day release that I did buy was the uh was Allison Chain's SAP. Oh sweet. So um I uh yeah so it's a it's a pretty sweet package, although you know what, I haven't opened it yet, just because I've been so busy this weekend. But it's uh so of course it's an EP. So it's a 12, it's the 12-inch EP, it's got all songs on one side, and then the other side is it's uh it's etched, yeah, etching with Allison Chains on it. And uh so it looks pretty sweet. Now the only thing I read about it online is that I read a lot of people were having uh problems their copies were all warped. And some of them and some of them had pops and stuff like that in in in the audio when they played it. So yeah, that's kind of a little disappointing. I hope my copy's gonna be okay, but that's what I've been reading online, anyways, that some people have um have noticed that. Anyways, well that sucks. Yeah, that does suck. You know, you hate to spend whatever 30 bucks on a fucking record and have it be a piece of shit.
SPEAKER_02So um see to me, I'd only play it once, and then when and ever you can meet Rock Tars again, get them to sign that because that would be fucking dope.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, yeah. Who knows? Who knows if and when that's gonna happen again. So I don't know. We'll we'll see. Uh yeah, so my I did pick up a couple other items. Um Death has reissued some of their albums again, like they've they've reissued them a couple three or four times now. Um back in 2014, and they released some deluxe copies and stuff like that. So some of them were double uh double vinyl or double LPs and uh some extra songs and all that. They've reissued them again this year, uh 2020. Special splatter type vinyl. Uh they're only single, uh single LPs, though. They so there's no extras or anything like that. So uh so I picked a couple up a couple of those. Uh a couple of death uh the death band, the death metal band. Uh oh fuck yeah. So yeah, so th they look pretty sweet. Like those, it's uh it's uh what's what do they call it? They call it um I don't know. It's like uh oh fuck, I can't remember. Oh, pinwheel. That's what it is. So it's pinwheel clear pinwheel splattered uh vinyl. Yeah, it looks awesome. That's red, yeah. Yeah, so pretty cool stuff. So that was kind of the extent of my Black Friday purchases, at least, anyways. What did you pick up? I heard you got something pretty sweet.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I've been eyeballing TV for a little while, so I'm looking for the next gen gaming because COVID's not going away, so I'm gonna hunker down and play a lot of video games. So I have an old school 32-inch uh Samsung something, I don't even know what the fuck it is, but I bought it about nine years ago. It's yeah, it doesn't play anything through like HDMI anymore. It's it's dying, it's starting to die a horrible death. I think I could might be able to use it as a computer monitor for like an external monitor for some video editing stuff, but yeah, I need TVs. So I've been eyeballing a bunch of them. Bunch of LG TVs, a bunch of Samsung TVs, because I've had no issues with Samsung TVs. And I was talking to a couple of the sales guys, and the one that fits my needs is a Samsung Q LED, and the model is Q70s.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_02And that was the hot ticket item for this uh Black Friday for everyone. So Best Buy was sold out, everywhere was sold out. So I was like, oh for fuck's sake. Um so then my dad bought recently bought a new TV. He bought like a 95-inch something rather. Samsung. I don't know the model number, but it kicks ass. Um, so I bought three models down from him, whatever it was, and I went to Costco on Saturday morning and they had a shit ton of them, and it was ten dollars cheaper than everywhere else. Oh wow. My dad's like, go talk to the guys at Visions because that's where I got my TV from and see if they can give you some sort of deal. So I went to Visions, I was talking to the guys at Visions, and they're like, Oh yeah, I want a Q70. He's like, Okay, we got those, but he's like, for an extra 50 bucks, you can get the Visions exclusive version of the Q70, and the difference is is it double darkens the pixels, whatever the hell it is.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Cool.
SPEAKER_00So yeah, right on. No, that sounds pretty sweet. So what did that set you back? That was a what size? 50 inch? It was a 55 inch, 50 inch.
SPEAKER_02And it cost everything all in was like 978.
SPEAKER_00Oh, okay. And it's like Q Bad. And it's a QLED TV. Yeah. Yeah, cool. Yeah, I know we talked about TVs a little bit in the past, and I was kind of eyeing up some OLED TVs, which is the latest technology, but they're fucking expensive now. Uh yeah. They're so expensive. They're pretty sweet, but uh yeah, even a 55-inch OLED TV will set you back at least a couple grand. So yeah, it's like two 2500 bucks. Yeah, for sure. That's cool. Well, that sounds that sounds pretty good. Now, what about your you said you're looking at an Xbox or something like that. Did you that's your next purchase, I guess?
SPEAKER_02I think so. When I can find one. So the other big purchase for this month for me is snow tires, because I think we're gonna have a pretty shitty winter. So I need snow tires. Um so I do that on Thursday. Okay. Um and then save up for Christmas stuff, whatever it is, and then after Christmas. Hopefully, I can get my hands on a PS5 andor a new Xbox. Whatever one I'll get first is I'll grab it first.
SPEAKER_00But you still haven't decided then.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, well, I I want a PS5, to be honest, right away. But at this point, because of COVID, I'll settle for fucking whatever. I want both eventually. Yeah. So I'll just buy whatever one I can get my hands on first and just go.
SPEAKER_00Okay. Yeah, well, pr uh priorities, right? You got to get those snow tires if uh if you know, since you're on the road every day to work and stuff. Uh yeah, that'll be important. Um, yeah, we haven't had the snow yet. Uh I mean, at least not downtown yet. Did you did you did you get hit where you were? Because I know like in Chillipa, like in yeah, in Coquitlam and stuff, yeah. I know we had a couple storms a couple weeks ago.
SPEAKER_02There was like a wet flurries, whatever it is. We got a little bit of the wet flurries, but nothing stuck at all. But it's cold enough. Like, what's the temperature right now? Well today. Last night was like two degrees.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, today it warmed up, it's not a bad day again. I think it was like eight degrees when I checked, but uh last night or overnight it was chilly, like two degrees, like you said. So the the the mornings are are pretty cool, so yeah. It's well, it's that time of year. I don't know. I think we got a wind warning or some fucking stupid thing in effect for tonight and tomorrow. Um that time of year, so yeah, better get prepared.
SPEAKER_02The um long range forecast, though, so Monday's gonna be hey, we're doing weather. Weather on the ones. Uh weather this week. Monday's gonna be shitty, but Tuesday to Friday is gonna be pretty good.
SPEAKER_00So Oh, okay. That's alright. That's not too bad. Next thing you know, we're gonna be fucking doing traffic or something here too.
SPEAKER_01Traffic. The traffic chopper. Let's go on the chopper chopper.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Hey, I can I can uh in the mornings and and afternoon drive, I can look out my window and see what the traffic is on Dunsmere at least, right?
SPEAKER_02Dunsmere and Georgia? The traffic in Dungeon is backed up all the way up. It's on the viaducts.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, for sure.
SPEAKER_02You did not recommend, do not take it.
SPEAKER_00You better listen to us. We got uh we got it here first.
SPEAKER_02Traffic and mother together on the threes, baby.
SPEAKER_00Sorry to our sorry to our friends out there, we're gonna be putting you out of a job pretty soon.
SPEAKER_02Uh barely. Fuck. They're gonna put themselves out of the job. It's it's radio's not a happy place in the world right now, but good for them. And I feel they're all struggling, so uh I wish them. It's no fun when our brothers and sisters lose a job in the industry, but then they're gonna come competing against podcasts, and then we're really gonna be fucked because they're already better than we are.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, well, Rogers, yeah, like you said, it and it happens all the time. It's part of the business, and it's really fucking sad. But yeah, what Rogers Rogers laid some people off a couple weeks ago, and yes, some people we know were affected by that. And yeah, it fucking sucks. Especially well, especially this time of year, and especially with all the fucking shit going on, but it's never it's never a good time. So that sucks.
SPEAKER_02But I I do want to bitch about police lights for a second. So this I've been driving to work for every day for well, every day. Um, and because of COVID, traffic has been pretty light. Yeah. Uh but now because everyone's kind of going back to work and no one really knows what the fuck's going on, traffic gets heavier and heavier. So on my commute home, I'm now I've been stuck in traffic twice this week. Uh so coming over the Alex Fraser Bridge back into the Delta, there was an accident on the uh coming into town. So on the northbound side, more traffic on the northbound side. Um coming to there is uh an accident going on. So, but of course, everyone needs to stop and look at it, and so traffic just comes to a fucking grinding halt. So I was on the Alex Fraser Bridge on Tuesday night for an hour and 45 minutes, just trying to get across. Yeah, there was nothing going on, there was nothing wrong on our side, everyone was just stopping to look to see what was happening on the other side. Obviously, it was a big accident, so whatever. And you can see the traffic all the way back down the northhand side, all the way down to like the 72nd, 64th, and highway. It was it was a shit show. But my big beef is no one would have stopped if the police didn't have their front lights on. Because the minute the cops spin the lights, everyone stops to take a look. Yeah, and they have the ability to turn off the front headlights, the front side of the lights. I get it for the back because you can get people to see uh people approaching it so they can see what's going on. Okay, but peep from the front hand side, what turn those lights off when you are dealing with a motor, especially on a barricaded street where there's no danger to you because there's a big median in the center, nothing can come through and get you. Turn off those fucking front lights and let's make traffic flow a little better.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. I didn't I didn't know that you could separate those lights. I thought they were all the same, but it's hey, I don't pay attention, I don't drive much, so yeah.
SPEAKER_02Uh so that's my beef of that. And it happened to me again on Friday night. Yeah. So Friday night I went to go to see my barber. My barber's closing down a shop. Uh so I got a last haircut and I got a last uh beer trim from him. Uh and my appointment was at 6 o'clock, so I left work straight to there, and then I was coming back. I was coming back just off the 9th Street Bridge, and I saw traffic backed all the way up. So I was like, fuck this, I'll take the tunnel. So whipped around and take the tunnel, and the tunnel was it was all backed all the way up too. So I'm like, great. I'm I just thought it was normal congestion. But again, on the other hand side of the road, there was another accident with the lights on, so everyone was just slowing down to take a look. So I think it's a big major problem. I think if you're a police officer, please turn off the front hand lights. If you're not, it does and let's make traffic flow a little smoothly in uh the here in the lower mainland.
SPEAKER_00I guess I guess you're right. If it's possible to do that, then go for it. But why the fuck do people have to slow down anyways? I mean, if you're coming, like you said, if you're coming from behind, of course, then tra chances are traffic is slow anyways, but but even even oh fuck, yeah, I don't know. People people just they hit the brakes as soon as they fucking see some lights, and then it just fucking backs everything up right away. And yeah, yeah, I mean the number one heading out uh into the valley is probably the worst for for that because you know you could be delayed for uh like an hour and a half out there just because of just because a cop not even because of an accident, just because a cop has somebody pulled over on the side of the road, everybody just fucks and hits their brakes, and sure, you know, it's it's polite and probably safe to to merge left, um, you know, so that you got the cop and whatever, you give them as as much distance as possible, but still, it's just people are stupid. They hit the brakes and they fucking slow right down, and they gotta fucking be nosy and fucking check everything out, and yeah, it sucks. It's stupid. Such a pain. Well, whatever. That's why I choose not to drive. I mean, it's just uh, you know, again, I drive when I need to. We rent the um the car share and stuff like that, and and it works out well for us. And uh when I so that's the thing. When I do go, I I try not to get pissed off. It's just like, yeah, whatever. It's just you know, we we do this once every couple months, and uh fuck, who cares? It's no use getting pissed off, and we're in no fucking hurry, usually, at least in so it is what it is, but uh I would fucking hate to do it every single day. That would suck.
SPEAKER_02Oh, imagine imagine the commute from Chilliwack to Vancouver.
SPEAKER_00Oh fuck, I know. Like my boss, when we were working, of course, when we were in the office, like she she lives in Langley, like my manager, and like she did that fucking trip every single day. So she would drive from Langley to to West Ban every single day. Now she she made sure she left early enough in the morning so that she was at the office. Uh like I think she hit the office at 6 30. So obviously traffic is light, and that gets her out the door too early in the afternoon to beat the rush hour traffic heading back out there. But still, that's still a long drive. That still adds probably close to two hours to your day. Yeah, it's if it's a good day. If it's a good day, that's right. Yeah. So I don't know. Yeah, I don't know how people do it either, but anyway.
SPEAKER_02I thought driving from Delta to Vancouver was bad, and that's like 35 minutes.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, yeah, no kidding. Lots of people do it.
SPEAKER_02Who knows? It's just one of those things. Like you gotta no choice. You can't buy a house at Vancouver, you have to move out to fucking Agassiz. Yeah, yeah, no kidding.
SPEAKER_00No kidding. No, but whatever.
SPEAKER_02It was one of those things.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Um, I see here that you have. Did you get a flu shot?
SPEAKER_00Yeah, well, yeah, I did. So I don't know why I wanted to bring this up. It was kind of on my agenda the last couple weeks. Um and so I did get a flu shot. When was this? When did I go to the doctor? Um I forgot. Was that the beginning of November? I can't even remember. Anyways, I g I I I guess I did the thing is I did get a flu shot this year. And and I don't usually get flu shots. I well, in fact, I I don't, period. Yeah, I don't get and again, it's not that I'm an anti-vaxxer or anything like that. Uh I I'm certainly on board with you know the important vaccinations for sure. Yeah, it's um so so yeah, I just uh I had a couple things that I was seeing my doctor about, and he always pushes the the the flu vaccination this time of year whenever I go in to see him. And he he doesn't push really hard, he doesn't force anything on me, so he understands if I don't want to if I don't want to do it, I don't do it. So for whatever reason, I got the a flu shot this year. I just figured with everything going on uh and I'm getting a little bit older and you know, fuck it. I guess it's uh it's time to do it. So I did get the flu shot. Um I also got a a shot, a flu shot uh uh a vaccination that they kind of they give to young kids, like they give to kids like really young age, and that's how safe this vaccination is. It's a pneumonia vaccination. I think it's called I think it's called Prevnar, Prevnar 13. So I figured out what the fuck. Because we talked about that before actually. So hey, fuck it, I'm there. Let's just fucking do it, get it over with, and so you know, away we go. So hopefully I'm good for for pneumonia at least, uh, as I'm getting older again. Hopefully I'm good for that. I don't won't have to fucking worry about it. And uh I know flu is not prevalent this year, and it I think it's a couple things. It's because people aren't going out, it's because of the flu shot, and it's because people are masking up, so and washing their hands on it and washing their hands on it, exactly. So so you know, so those things do some good. Uh you know, so obviously you know, if they if they help the flu, they can help the fucking COVID here too. So, you know, peop it's just all the more reason why people should be masking up. So and it's a fucking Yeah. It's just something we talk about all the time, and it's still a fucking problem. These anti-maskers are fucking idiots. So it's still happening, but that's the thing. You read you read on a day every day, you hear some news about some protests or about some incidents about people trying to get in going to stores and not wearing a mask and some fuck uh fight breaks out or some stupid thing, and uh it's crazy. So at least cops are finding people now. That's yeah that's awesome. That's it's about fucking time. You know, people gotta learn from that now too. So that's about 250? I think so. I think so. Yeah. So uh hey, sp while we're speaking of that, did you hear about some incident here in the West End about on like on Friday night or something like that about some about six or seven or eight people getting called to the hospital because of uh like a overdose or something like that?
SPEAKER_02So there was a party Yeah, there was some bad yeah, bad drugs or something floating around.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, so I didn't read the details, but obviously there's some party happening, and which of obviously isn't a fucking stupid idea in the first place, but then they're fucking doing these these these drugs and it sounds like some of them were in pretty bad shape too, and um yeah, they got hauled to hospital and like fuck. I don't know. It's just number one, doing drugs, and number two is because and when you don't know what the fuck is in there. And number two, people shouldn't be fucking partying or having anybody over at your house during the lockdown. So like like fucking give your head a shake. So Yeah. Just another example of some stupid people out there, though. That's all. Stupid people everywhere.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I don't know. I don't know what to say. We've been bitching about this for nine months. Uh what else do I gotta say? Yeah. Um, yeah, fuck. At least there's a vaccine coming in theory. But apparently they're saying they're all like um mid-2021, they're expecting 50% of Canadians to be vaccinated.
SPEAKER_00They do by the summer of 2021, eh? Okay. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Alright. So I don't know if that's a good thing. I don't know if it's a bad thing. Like, like I I personally haven't gotten a flu shot because every time I've gotten a flu shot, I've been the sickest I've ever been ever in my life. Yeah. I've gotten it twice, and both times it kicked me on my ass. Like I was in the bed for three days one time, just throwing up at the shits. Both times. Like it's just not I don't do flu shots. Fuck it. Uh so I don't want a COVID shot because one, like if my flu shot affects me that much, how is this going to affect me? Uh I'm assuming it's not because it's giving it to everyone. So it's probably one of those light versions of it, like the uh pneumonia shot that you got earlier this week or month or whatever it was. But yeah, I I think it's still I don't know. I think it's still too early to try. I mean, they're obviously testing and stuff and been testing and doing some testing for it, but yeah, it's just uh it's kind of a weird, it's a weird situation to be in and to take this new thing that they don't really know much about. Here, take it. Hopefully it helps. Like uh Yeah, I don't know.
SPEAKER_00That's that's a funny one. I mean, I didn't get sick when I got my flu shot. Again, the first time ever I I got a shot, and I I did not get sick, I didn't feel bad or anything like that at all. So, but they do make these they do make them different, I think, than they used to. I think that's what a lot of people were worried about, is that you know, it's a small dose and it could produce some symptoms and stuff like that as your body builds up, you know, the antibodies and stuff like that. So um so maybe that was a concern in the past. Um I don't know that it is anymore just because they do something different. But but the COVID vaccination is is different. Um I I don't know what to think about it either. I'm really I'm really skeptical. I know that these uh these companies are are saying that uh success rates are uh anywhere from 90 to 95 percent or or whatever. Um or they're that effective. Uh but they're small trials, right? Um so there's a bunch there there's a bunch of things that uh you know, like you said, I'm concerned about too. Um you know, you know, number one, how long do they provide immunity? How effective are they at uh preventing asymptomatic cases? And what about older people? Like how how will older people react? Uh so there's a bunch of things. And you know, nobody knows what the side effects are gonna be a year down the road. That's the other thing. So, you know, sure uh maybe it'll be good at preventing COVID, but what the fuck is else is it gonna do to you know, a year down the road? What's gonna happen? And uh you know, I know I know you know typically they are you know, again, creating vaccinations or vaccines today is different than it was fifty years ago, but still it's it's still it's a concern. You know, it's just like it's a small group of people right now and nobody knows for sure what's uh what's gonna happen. So I'm really on the fence too. Like I I guess you know, just just sitting down and having a uh a good long putting some thought into it. Um yeah, I don't I don't know what I what I'm gonna do either. Right now I'm thinking, well, if I'm one of the last ones, then so be it. That's not gonna be a problem. I don't mind that at all. You know, so so we'll see. Uh it should it'll be interesting. I I don't know how it's gonna roll out anyways. 50% is still not enough to you know to to s to put a stop to this. But it's uh it's still a good start, so we'll we'll have to wait and see.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I wish I the numbers don't even back it up too. Like, what's the magical number to kind of quote unquote stop it in his tracks? Was it 70%? Was that part of the herd immunity? I think it's a good thing. Stuff we talked about a long time ago. Yeah, yeah. Yeah. So we at least need 70%. So that even means like the 30% of us who don't want to take the shot, if it was 70% of them getting vaccinated, we would be kind of in the clear, maybe. Yeah. But uh it's hard to say. Who who knows?
SPEAKER_00Yeah, so that means, you know, that means outbreaks can still be occurring if if if this comes summer of 2021 and it's 50%, you know, it's still not enough. There could still be outbreaks through through the uh the entire year. Yeah. You know, so who knows? You know, we could still be in the same situation come next summer, who knows? But uh but numbers are numbers are bad. Their numbers are bad all over in Canada here too. Like we were c we were making fun, well not making fun, but we were kind of you know making a point of commenting on America and how bad it is down there. Well it's you look at Alberta right now, Alberta is f in the fucking shitter. Alberta's the worst province in the country right now, and Alberta's worse than Ontario right now. It's fucking awful. Yeah. So I mean I know there's still high cases in uh high daily cases and hospitalizations and stuff in in Ontario, but uh yeah, Alberta's bad, and you know, I just and and you read about st still the anti-maskers and stuff like that. And I don't know. My parents are in Alberta and I really I'm worried about them. So you know, obviously they're doing their parts and and whatever, but still it's just fuck, it's it's sad. I don't want anything to happen to them.
SPEAKER_02Oh, of course. And have you uh I know you're on top of this. What's going on with the COVID tracing app or the COVID-19 app? Are they doing um you had this in your prep, but there was like they've used it to track 20 cases or something like that? Was it five cases over the last two months, five months, six months, whatever it was?
SPEAKER_00Well, I think um yeah, so I think well no, that was the Alberta's app, I think, right? So so like Alberta, they rolled out their COVID-19, I forget what they call it there. I think they oh they call it Alberta Trace Together or something like that. So uh I don't know how I I don't have stats to see how many installs there are, and of course they had lots of technical problems, and I think they still do. They only through the app they were only used, they were only able to trace 20 cases over a period of about six months. So obviously the app is a piece of shit. So so that's so that's why you know they're they're complaining about so many cases now, they can't keep up with tracing, with contact tracing. Um, they can't hire enough people, they've they're falling behind. Why not implement why not use the Canada's app? The COVID-19 alert. Why not use it? And BC's the same way, we should be using it too, and I don't understand why. Uh these numbers I have, I think, are a couple weeks old, uh, but it's been downloaded uh over five million times, which is still probably not enough, but you know what? Every little bit helps. And it's been and it's been used. Um what they oh I won't we won't get into how it works again and stuff, but but it's been used, they say it's been used about 5,500 times. So that's a big difference. Uh again, that's all across Canada, but still that's a obviously a much better job of of tracing than it than just the Alberta app is on its own. So hey, it's at this point every little bit helps. It's a start. Uh you know, I know Alberta and BC wants some changes, they want to see some changes made before they implement it, but you know what? We can't wait for it at this point. Why not just roll it out? If you still want changes made, you can still keep uh talking about it or working on par me. But just do it. Fuck it. It's it's there, it's it's ready to use. Um and it's safe as far as privacy and stuff goes. Uh so just do it. Like fuck. It's all gonna it's gonna help us all at this point, so why not?
SPEAKER_02Yeah. I wonder if they can talk I mean, this is kind of getting government conspiracy and shit, but I wonder if they can just force you to download it anyway. So you can't push out a phone update or something like that and just comes on your phone. Like, would that help everything? Wouldn't that be the way to do things now, especially with this it they they've shown it works, but people are just reluctant to do it. So can they just force people to do it? Like myself included, you have it and I don't have it. So two out of the people pulled on the show, one of them were 50-50. So, like, but imagine if we both had it. That's two more people working toward it. So if they can force it out to whatever, if they told me I had to force it on my phone didn't work, well fuck, here we go. And it's not like it's not that I don't want to download it, I just don't. You know what? Maybe I will download it. I'm gonna download it right now. Just because yeah, because we're doing our part to save and do different things, and there you go. So I will download it. So now two of the two people pulled on the show now have the COVID app. So just like that. You can download it and we'll be all good to go.
SPEAKER_00And it's called here in Canada, it's called COVID Alert, right? Yeah, that's right. COVID 9 COVID 19 alert. Yep. Got it. Easy to install. You yeah, all the instructions are there. It tells it tells you how it works when you install it. And uh again, it's not it's not functioning correctly here in BC yet, just because the government has not implemented it. But when they're when they if and when they do, you know, it can it can let's say it's they put it in effect tomorrow, somebody who has it uh tests positive, they get this code from the government, they plug the code into the app, and let's say just you happen to pass them or something on the street, you won't know who or where exactly, but it you'll still be alerted that you were in contact with somebody and whatever you take, whatever steps you need you need to take. So um, so it's simple. Yeah, so good job. Thanks for uh doing your part then, yeah. Thanks for your service.
SPEAKER_02No problem, Canadian national anthem going for sure.
SPEAKER_00Speak speaking of which, I I hassled you a lot for a long time to get signal installed um on your phone. And now you're using Signal, and that's and you love it, right? So do you do you like it?
SPEAKER_02The only reason I use uh the well, the only reason I use Signal is to talk to you. I've tried to get all my friends to try to install Signal to try to do different things with it because I think it's it's it's a pretty decent platform. You can do a bunch of cool things with it, it's super encrypted, it's super cool. Um so yeah, use signal people, but a lot of my people don't like iMessage is the king for it, and then text messaging is the king. Um and for group chats, the the kids are using WhatsApp. Uh so that's another thing. So the only reason I use Signal is because of you. Oh well thanks.
SPEAKER_03Well thanks.
SPEAKER_02Uh but I, you know, and I have my own, like my phone's organized into my job folder and a podcast folder. So I have everything that I need to do. So signals in there, I have WhatsApp in there, and I have my benefit programs in there, whatever the hell it is. That's it. So that's in my job folder. Um, but yeah, you you're you're trying to get me to use private email.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I am, because uh so yeah, that's that's my next task, I think, that I've gotta I've gotta get you converted to uh something other than Gmail because come on, Gmail fucking sucks.
SPEAKER_02Well I love I love your email address because it's your name uh just at dot com. I think it's fantastic. I want the same thing. So what's that? How does that work? And does it work with like uh client? Like I just don't want other like I would love to get rid of my Gmail, um, to be honest with you, and to have like just a regular account that actually kind of works with my iOS software because I'm on my phone all the time. Yeah, uh so for like super personal uh things like with buddies or you know, I guess banking information and all that shit, it would it would just be that and everything else would be on my Gmail. So what service are you using for your uh secure private email?
SPEAKER_00Yeah, so I use Tutanota. So the the two the two good ones that you should be looking at are uh Tutenota or Proton Mail. Those are probably the two best ones. I think there's a couple other there others, and they're both free. Um obviously there's there's paid subscriptions though as well. Uh, but they're both free. If you want just want to use the free version, you have to use whatever their domain is. So it's uh at them at tutanota.com. Or you can they have the you can shorten it. So it could be like atom at tuta.io. Um so so you can do that, and and it's it's very private, it's very it's it's secure. Now it's only it's only as private as who you're communicating with, of course. So so me and you, for example, I have Tutanota, you use Gmail, Gmail can read it. It's not encrypted, right? So Gmail can read our conversation. So we would both need to have the service in order for it to be effective and and full encryption, and nobody can fucking know nobody knows what we're talking about. Yeah. Um so that's the only thing. But um you mentioned the mud the don domain, so yes, I use my I have I I do pay, so I pay a small fee for a subscription. I think it's fifteen bucks a year, like one five, like it's like who cares? That's not so you buy it, you have to buy a domain, of course, which which is cheap too. And then so you just tie that domain to your uh in my case, two denota subscription, and away you go. So I use my at uh yeah, my my name.com um as my email address. So Yeah, that's awesome. Um so yeah, it does cost a little bit of money if you want to do it that way. But if you don't, it's still like it's still free. Like, why not? Why not like why not?
SPEAKER_02It's yeah, I but the only way I would do it, because no one cares about like the whatever, nothing against Tutanova, but no one ever knows what it is. I don't even know how to spell it. So it's just like you go to you, whatever, you're checking in for a COVID tracing or whatever it is, and you type, what's your name? I mean, email atom at tutanova.com. What the hell is Tutanova? Which is why the name is it's so enticing because it's you know Adam at B.com. Like that's I think that's fantastic. Can you change the dot coms to orgs or dot CAs or anything cool like that, or does it have to be a dot com?
SPEAKER_00No, if you if you um you can you can whatever domain you buy, you can tie to it's uh it can be a.ca uh com. I mean, there's lots of different uh different domains uh out there now. So yeah. So whatever you want to whatever you want to spend, some of them are more expensive than others, but uh anyways, that's my neck next task. I know it might take a little bit of work here, but but hey, it should be easier to get you to convert it it's it's it takes a while too. Like obviously you you cannot move from Gmail to whatever else overnight, right? In fact, I'm still it's been a couple years since and I've still got a couple of things tied to my Gmail account. Oh yeah. But for the most part, yeah, I'm using Tutanota now and um Yeah, that's that anyways, that that's my that's my next step. So I'm gonna keep pounding you about it.
SPEAKER_02Well, the thing that gets me is that you when one of your friends, quote unquote friends, sign up for signal, you get a notification. Such and such is using signal. You can now communicate them through Signal. And so right away I'm like, hey man, welcome, welcome to the superior messaging app, and no response. So I wonder it's just uh it's just irking. But you can do group chats in this, you can do whatever you want with it. I I think it's pretty good, but that's yeah, it's just uh sucks.
SPEAKER_00It is what at least with signal, that's that is what sucks about it, is that people are tied people people are can are tied to something and it's about convenience, right? And the problem is you you need to educate them, and that's the hardest part, is to educate them and get them to convert. If they truly understand the issues um with privacy and security, and they you know, then you would think that they would want to change. But people don't seem to still don't seem to give a shit about that, which is which is whatever. I mean you you can't you can't force people to do stuff, but but so but the thing is the thing is with email it's even easier to because you don't need to convert anybody. With email, you just do it. You set it you set it up and you make sure people have your new email address and away you go. You don't need to convert other people. You just you just do it yourself and away you go.
SPEAKER_02How much is a domain cost these days?
SPEAKER_00I think a dot um it depends where you get them from. I mean uh for a year I think you can get a dot com for maybe ten bucks. Dot CAs are a little bit more, like fourteen bucks or something like that. So you you have to renew that every year too, but they're cheap. Yeah, there it is.
SPEAKER_02So let's just call it 30-ish bucks a year for my own private email address. That's right. Okay, I'll think about it. You know, that's that's five coffees in my system. That's that's 30 slurpees in my system. That's a bunch of shower kids in my system. You'll see. I I I might be able to make it. Um I still gotta buy snow tires and a PS5 and an Xbox first, but maybe, just maybe, I will circle back and get a private secure email address.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Well, again, again, you could start off free and then work uh work from there, right? So get starting free does not hamper your account or you does not change things when you decide to upgrade to one of their uh subscription platforms.
SPEAKER_02So um when I go in, like when I'm going in, I'm going in. I'm not just gonna buy a singular snow tire. That's stupid. I'm gonna buy four at a time. So when I go in, I'm I'm going into full swinging. So once I get $30, end of the beginning to go. But you know what? What's the even better idea? Christmas is coming up, so maybe you should give me the gift of two tonotes. Break that down. No bad ideas. Well, maybe uh I will vote for free, baby.
SPEAKER_00I won't buy your domain name, but uh uh hey, maybe maybe I'll do that uh for one year. Maybe I'll do that. As long as you think of me too, and uh I don't know what I want. I'll let you know, but uh okay.
SPEAKER_02Uh uh from that $15 you're gonna spend on the tooth and upper, I'll give you a $15 GC so you can try one of those Apple flat whites from Starbucks.
unknownOkay.
SPEAKER_00Alright.
SPEAKER_02Fair enough.
SPEAKER_00Done. Christmas taken care of. Yeah, that's pretty good.
SPEAKER_02So I'm gonna talk about this for a second. Twitter has announced this thing called Fleets. First off, fuck you and your fleets. Second off, what a stupid name. Like it's just so if you don't know what it is, um the social media platforms, Snapchat was the king of it, and then Instagram ripped off Snapchat, and now Twitter is ripping off Snapchat and Instagram. So what it is is it's you can film like a 15-second video, or they're marketing it as the thing you didn't want to tweet, but still wanted to oh sorry, the thing you didn't want to tweet but wanted to, but didn't, but you got so close, but then you were like, nah. That's from Twitter's. That's Twitter's messaging. We now have a place for that. Now called Fleets, rolling out to everyone today. First off, that made no sense. Second off, why are you ripping off people? Keep Twitter is for the news here and now. It's just like I don't go, I'm not gonna scroll through another, it's another fucking thing for me to scroll through. I don't want to do that. I think it's a waste of time. Even scrolling up on the shitter's a lot of work. So I'm not a big fan of these. I don't go for Twitter for this stuff. I go for quick news, some funny jokes, maybe a booby shot, and I'm out. That's that's that's what I use Twitter for. Uh so I haven't fucked with the fleets yet. Have you uh um tried it yet? Have you experimented with fleets?
SPEAKER_00Uh I'm just trying to go back and think about the boobies that you see on Twitter because I don't know. I don't know that I see any. I don't go to Twitter for that.
SPEAKER_02You need to subscribe to you need to uh um follow some okay boobies.
SPEAKER_00Well maybe maybe we'll talk about that later. Um yeah, yeah. So I don't I don't know what to think about. I ha I have tried it. Or I mean like I know obviously in my Instagram days, um I did the stories or whatever it was called on Instagram, I can't remember. So um and it was kind of cool. Um so I don't know what to think. Uh and I'm not in on Instagram or anything else anymore either, just Twitter. So at first I thought, well, hey, maybe this is kind of cool, but you know, after yeah, I don't I don't know how valuable it is. I don't know what people are going to get out of it. Uh why are they going to fleet instead of just sending out a tweet? Uh um I don't know. Like like okay, so here here's an example of what I did. Instead of instead of posting a tweet that's going to be there forever about a maybe what I'm playing now. So like a now playing, I do a screenshot of s my Spotify on my phone and hey, this is what I'm playing right now. Like like number one, who cares, I guess. But number two is uh Isn't it might it might it be a better place like to to fleet it instead of tweeting it and then that way Shitty stuff like that doesn't fill up my timeline. Like I don't does that make sense? I don't know. I'm just I'm just waiting at it here.
SPEAKER_02I don't know. I I think that if you're gonna if you have you gotta you gotta first uh determine what Twitter is used for. Twitter I think is used for the news here and the now, quick booby shot and you're out. You know? But you know, other than that, who cares? Like it's I the thing I tweet on a regular basis is my songs of the day, yeah and our podcast, whatever I found something funny, and um some random thought that I have while I'm on the shitter while taking a shit on like Twitter. Uh so you know there's um yeah, I I don't know. If I want to go see stories or whatever it is, I'll use Snapchat, the OG, which I don't even use that much anymore, or I'll see the Instagram stories, but now they're called reels or whatever the hell they're called, and that's it. You know, I I think for Twitter to rip them off and to do it, and they're it's the same content. All the content creators are just ripping over their Instagram stories and popping them on their their fleets. So what a waste of time and what an extra extra step of bullshit.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I'm out of that. I I I agree Twitter is more for news, and that's why I've come back to Twitter and only Twitter, and because it's good for it's good to try and stay on top of some stuff, and uh sadly I get I still get caught up in some of the bullshit that you see and read and whatever. But uh but anyways, usually for the it's it's there for it's there for news and current events. It still seems to be the best place to find like breaking content. Um so so I don't know. So so that's so that's the that's the thing you're right about Twitter. But but having said that, um all of these tech companies copy the other ones, and and Twitter, Twitter is always trying to get more followers because they obviously they're they're kind of the you know, it's Facebook, it's Instagram, it's Snapchat, it's TikTok, yeah, and then Twitter is always down at the bottom of or at least below those other platforms. So I don't know. So Twitter's always trying to do something, um, trying to make changes, trying to be relevant, trying to get more followers, and of course, you know, whatever, it's more advertising for them, advertising dollars. So you know, I you you can see why they're doing it. That doesn't mean it's a good good idea, that's for sure. But you can see uh they all do it. I mean, look at look at look at our phones. Look at how many things Android has copied from Apple. Look at how many things Apple has copied from Android. It's just of course it's just it's it's just part of the uh part of tech nowadays, I guess. So um I don't know. I don't know. I don't know that it's something like I said, I've tried it. I don't know if it's something I'll use on a regular basis here, but but we'll see. And it's not that I follow a lot of people either, but it does look like you know, content there in the fleets is is pretty scarce. So not a lot of people are uh I don't think jumped on board here yet, at least from what I've seen. So I haven't seen anything from you, that's for sure, and that really disappoints me.
SPEAKER_02No, I'm sorry. Uh you want to see something? Join me on Snapchat, people. Should we try? We're thinking talking out loud, no bad ideas. Should we try tweeting something from our old manhiella clouds account? What would we tweet there as a fleet? What would our fleet be?
SPEAKER_03Well, I think. Helicopter video, like I don't know.
SPEAKER_02It's gonna disappear in 24 hours. You're never gonna see it again. But the minute you post something on the internet, it's there forever. You can never unsee it, you can never get rid of it. So, you know, fleets or no fleet, the minute you pull something, it's there forever.
SPEAKER_00So it's stupid. Yeah, yeah. Okay. We won't we will be we won't be fleeting from our uh from our podcast account then either. So Well, not just yet.
SPEAKER_02Maybe there'll be some helicopters coming soon.
unknownOkay.
SPEAKER_00Sounds good. I'll watch for them.
SPEAKER_02And now one of our quote unquote bits is uh this. We call it Old Men turning up to 11, but technically I turn it up to 24 because that's reference in my car. Uh but there's um we're gonna hit with breaking music news. Music news, music, music, music news. Uh news, news, news, news. The first metal music video to hit 1 billion plays is System of Downs Chopsue. I will give you $5 if you can tell me what Chopsue is, what the video is. What's it about? What are they doing? Have you watched it? Are you do you contribute to this 1 billion plays on YouTube?
SPEAKER_00I did actually. After I read the story, I had to watch the video again. So yeah, so I'm I'm I am part of that statistic. Ooh. Um What is that video about? Uh that's a good that's a really good question. Do you know do you know what it's about?
SPEAKER_02Yeah, it's a they're just they're just rocking up on a rooftop. It reminds me of a Limp Biscuit video. Yeah, they just they rock out hard on a rooftop. There's no real it's like a performance video on top of a rooftop. Yeah, but what's the song about? Chopsui? Oh, who cares? But the song is like 19 years old. So Yeah, I know. But it's pretty cool that it hit one billion plays. I think that's pretty good.
SPEAKER_00That's a massive number. So I I'm surprised it took so long. And it's it's gonna get me started here again because I've talked about some of these really popular videos on YouTube before and how fucking stupid they are. And why does it take so long for a fucking metal song to fucking hit that Mark II? Because Yes, I know it's personal preference, and maybe I yes, I do like the heavier music more than that other shit that you see and read and hear about, but But but why? Why does it like that's a big number, but still, that's uh I'm surprised it took I'm surprised it didn't happen until now.
SPEAKER_02And it's crazy too, because like you look at your favorite artists, like you look at Metallica and Tersan, it has 433 million plays. You look at, you know, whatever. I'm just trying to find another music video. Like, what does Metallica's one have? Uh because that was her first music video ever. And it has 188 million plays. So to have uh 1 billion plays on a metal song is crazy. It's pretty crazy. What's what's going on? Yeah, for sure.
SPEAKER_00But and one and one came out uh I mean shit. One came out in 20. In 88. Yeah. 878. Yeah, so it's wow. Wow, yeah. So that's been that's been over 30 years then.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. Oh, look like a song like War Pigs, Black Sabbath War Pigs, 71 million views. Like there so to hit a billion views is a pretty uh monumental thing. Yeah. Uh so fuck yeah, System Modown. Let's uh continue doing what you're doing. Release some new tunes and uh kick some more ass. But um what are you rocking this week? What are you listening to this week?
SPEAKER_00All right, yeah, it's good to chat about some music uh again. Well, we chatted music last time with with Todd, and uh thanks again to Todd for joining us because that was pretty sweet. I need some good picks. Yeah, for sure. He he picks some tunes. I hope you listen to uh to our last episode. We didn't pick any songs last time, so we got a little catching up to do. So I've got uh well I've got I don't know how many songs here, but I guess it's the usual number. My pick of the week, though, is a uh new EP uh from My Dying Bride came out. They've been kind of busy because they I think they released an album early in the year, a full album, and now they've got this EP out. I think it's I think this is the title track. I think it's the album is titled, or the EP is titled uh Macabre uh Cabaret. Yep. That's the name of the track, at least, anyway. So uh hopefully you made it through this one, because uh this is a long one. This is almost seven minutes, I think. I went through it. It was on the background.
SPEAKER_02I was slow. I was slow headbagging by myself.
SPEAKER_00It's a it's a cool video, but it's a I think it's a great song. And I've uh I'm late to the game when it comes to my dying bride, because they've been around for fuck, they've been around for 30 years, I think. So um I I did not I was not listening to their music typically or uh uh for no reason. I just didn't I just wasn't familiar with it. I wasn't very introduced to it. Yeah. So I've been listening to a lot of this band uh in recent years and uh some really good stuff. It's right up my alley. And I mean this is good good doom metal. Uh some of it's death doom metal, I guess, if you want to call it that, but it's uh it's just good doom metal from the UK. These guys are pretty cool. I I love uh I love they're still going strong, I think. Some really strong songs here that have come out in recent years that match their earlier stuff too. So uh yeah, I love it. That's a win, baby. For sure. Uh next track is from a uh uh I think this band is fairly new. They're from Sweden, another Swedish band. I keep bringing these guys up. Uh this yeah, this band's called Electric Hydra. Uh song called Won't Go to War With Myself. Really, really good stuff. This is um uh I don't know, I don't know. There's uh there's uh it the band is female fronted. Um is the is the bass player also I don't know. I think there's another member in there. I'll have to rewatch the video. But um yeah, good good tune. I I enjoyed this as well. I'll be listening to a little bit more of this stuff.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. Um I I really enjoyed this this song as well. It's uh remind me of like early Joan Jet. Yeah, just kind of the way it kind of pops in and does the stuff. But yeah, that that song is a banger. It it it was cool.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Uh good stuff. Another band, uh some thrash metal here. I've got to throw in some thrashed all the time. These guys from Germany Sodom. New song called Friendly Fire. Yeah. Uh pretty, pretty good track as well. So uh nothing, I don't know, uh, these guys doing anything different, I suppose, but uh maybe not. So good thrash metal. Good good thrash, man. Yeah, definitely. Uh whippin' along, uh, a new band I've discovered as well. I think these guys were on my release radar, a band called Shepherd. Now I think there's a couple of other bands. One, there's a pop band, I think, that goes way back. I noticed uh with the same name. I don't know where they're from. This band, uh Shepherd, uh they're from Denver. Uh new album out. This song's called Chariot. Uh, this is their doom, their their debut album, I believe. So um, so fairly new guys. Um, at least this band is new anyway. So yeah. Just uh just some more good good heavy stuff. So that's really cool.
SPEAKER_02Oh man, this song Pounds. Yeah. I was a big fan of this song. My comment on it is just oh yeah.
SPEAKER_00I I have found uh the album as well to uh to stream, so I'll be checking out more of the stuff too, for sure. Oh, of course, yeah. It's really cool. Yeah, what a great heavy song. That song kicked shass. Yeah, I was a fan. Right on. Uh next band is called Little Villains. And I don't know, I may if I brought these guys up before or not. Little Villains was a band that started, I think, in the mid-90s, and it was uh with uh with Phil Taylor from Motorhead, drummer from Motorhead, filthy Animal. Uh so he was in this band called Little Villains. I don't think they ever really properly released any material from back then. So their first couple albums, well, the first the first one in particular, I think, took a bunch of songs from way back then, and they they I think they re-recorded it. Um I think Phil had already passed away at that point when the album finally came out. Um so, anyways, that was the first album. I think there is some enough stuff with from when they recorded for a second album.
unknownOkay.
SPEAKER_00So that also included Phil. This is their their third album. I forget the title of the the album itself. They've released two or three singles already. This one's called There Ain't No Cider on the On the Rider. There ain't no cider on the rider. There it is. Uh so obviously Phil's you know, there's no more material. They've got a different drummer now to replace Phil. And um hey, it's just good, good rock and roll. It's um it's a decent song. I don't I don't mind this stuff at all. So um I always enjoyed Phil's drumming, though, that's for sure. And uh nobody's there there aren't many people like him, that's for sure. Not that style of drumming. So yeah, definitely not anymore. Yeah, yeah, for sure. Uh oops, so I'm flying along in my last year. The next couple tracks are covers. Um this band is called Earthless. I think I may have mentioned Earthless before too, and I've seen them a couple times live. And these guys are just a good psychedelic uh hard rock band uh from San Diego. And um I don't know if this is a uh from an album coming up or actually no, I think there was another Black Sabbath tribute album out. That's what it is. Okay, and um they recorded uh Never Say Die. So this is a pretty cool version of that. I don't think there's anything different about it, or um yeah, it is yeah, it's just a cool tune.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, they they pay they do it justice, it sounds pretty good. Yeah, and yeah, I I thought it was great.
SPEAKER_00Great musicians though, and yeah if you know you should probably listen to their other um some of their own stuff, some of their albums, yeah. Um, some of their original content, because it's uh they're a pretty cool band, so and awesome to see live. Uh this next one, I'm not uh I think I'll let you uh bring it up because it was on your list too. So we did a double shot.
SPEAKER_02We did we double we double uh did it today, which is awesome. That's a good sign.
SPEAKER_00It seems like it seems like we always do that. Yeah, there's always one one or two tracks in there, I think, that uh that we both have picked up on and added to our list for the week. So I'll leave I'll leave that I'll leave that for you. Perfect. Because I've got a I've got a couple more here anyway. So uh second to last is uh Guns N' Roses released a um a four track collection from a live show back in 2019. Um one of those songs is called Civil War. So this is this is from the live show uh in Wichita Wichita, Kansas from October 2019. Yeah. Um yeah, so Civil War. Uh it's one of my favorite songs from those Use Your Illusions um albums. Um and it's you know, I watched actually most of these most of this four-track performance. I've bitched and complained about Axel before, and I don't know, it's either hit and miss with him lately. The songs are either really good or really bad when you see them now live. And I don't I don't know. Uh I guess this is an okay version uh of the song. What's the first did you watch any more of this? But I'm trying to think of the first song because that was the second one out of the four songs. That's right, yeah. And he it's he sounds uh you know, in my opinion, he sounds awful. Yeah, so I didn't like it estranged. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02This whole thing, like I I wa like I'm a Guns and Roses fan, I think we all are. Yeah, it's classic 80s metal. Uh so did you see this tour when it rolled through Vancouver, or did you go down to Seattle to see it? No, I saw it here in Vancouver. Okay, so I saw the Seattle show um in like 2018 when they first reuned, like when they first reformed. Fuck was it awesome. Like it was it was it was just quintessential rock and roll. Like it they put all the hits, Axel was on fire, Slash was just ripping it. Uh like it was awesome. I missed the Vancouver show, but apparently it was pretty much the same thing. It was Axel was on, Slash was kicking ass, the band was tight as fuck. Um but yeah, this performance, like I quite enjoyed the Not in the Lifetime tour. And they're doing it, they're going out again on this leg when uh the Rona ends. But yeah, this performance was kind of uh it was just meh. Like Axel, I thought Axel was off. He was he hit a couple of the notes, but like it just got lazy. I don't know if it was near the end of the tour. I have no idea. But um, yeah, it was just it was like, why would you release this performance of it? I mean, when a night train was great, um, but uh The Strange was meh. And then Civil War was I don't remember the third song was.
SPEAKER_00Um It was a Glenn Campbell cover. Okay, yeah. Uh I forget the title. Um yeah, Glenn Campbell anyway, so but whatever. It's still cool.
SPEAKER_02Like, I'm not shitting on it too much, but it's it's cool they're still performing and putting out live shit for us to ingest. And yeah, I thought it was I mean, not his best performance, but it wasn't horrible.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. I I was not a fan of the tour of the show here in Vancouver, though. Honestly, I it was Axel, yes, and that's the only reason why. Like he he did sound really good on probably a half dozen songs. Like they played for over three hours, right? So I I just think um I just think it was probably like it was three and a half hours long. I just think they played for an hour and a half too long. Yeah, and um not that he sounded worse at the end, like he sounded bad at the beginning, he sounded bad in the middle, and he sounded bad at the end. And there there were there were a half dozen songs that were really good, like he was spot on, but I just I he he sounds awful, he really does, and that's why um yeah, I don't know. I just wasn't impressed. Uh Slash is on. The rest of the band was on for sure. Like, like Slash, and what's the other guitarist name? Um Richards, Richards. Somebody uh I always forget his name. But you know what? He he he rivals he yes, he matches or you know, Slash note for note. Like he's just so fucking awesome. Yeah, he's great to watch, lots of fun. Anyway, Axel Axel, I think, just ruined the show for me. And um you know, it's good to see him again. I saw Axel Rose on the Use Your Illusions tour back in ninety ninety-two or whatever year it was. Um so great, great show back then, obviously. And I'm you know, wasn't necessarily expecting the same thing because that was 25 years ago. Yeah. Uh almost 30 years ago as well, but but yeah, still I was like Axel, I think, needs to hang it up. I I really think so. I I really do. I just I I he just he just can't do it anymore. I I don't know what it is. Um anyway, that's my opinion. I I I mean I'll never go I'll never go paid to see them again, that's for sure. Yeah, it's just not worth not worth it. So yeah.
SPEAKER_02See, that's so that's interesting because I saw the year before you, and it was every song was killer. Yeah. Um so yeah, maybe I don't know, maybe they're tearing too much. Maybe he needs a couple days off before a show, like a kind of an Aussie thing. You know who else takes a couple days off before shows? Is Jonathan Davis from Corn. So he plays they do one on, two off. Yeah. Uh just because it he needs his voice. And he he's realized that he's quote unquote the weakest link, and he takes two days off, so he's able to perform with the boys. So I think maybe if Axel maybe did that, it might, you know, help things out. But uh that's been Guns of the Roses talk on the threes. What else do we got going on?
SPEAKER_00Alright. Yes, I've got what I've got one more track to bring it up, and this is this is I'm going way back, babe, way back for this uh song. I don't think I brought it up before. Um this is the band called Lucifer's Friend. They're from Germany. Um this is this is just good old uh psychedelic, I don't know what you want to call it, psychedelic uh doom metal, I guess. Uh like this stuff. The reason the main reason why I want to bring this up is because number one, this band is awesome. They uh most people probably don't even know who they are. Like they were around in the late 60s, early 70s, and and they I'm not saying they're as good as Black Sabbath, by any means they're not, but but this these are like this is some groundbreaking stuff, I think. Like this band and their sound was just so unique back then. You didn't see a lot of bands coming out with this kind of music. It's just so cool, and and this is a live version from 1971, a live version of their song called Ride the Sky, and it's on Beat Club, and that's why I wanted to bring this up is B Club. Uh B Club was a German music program uh that ran from 1965 to 1972. Um and uh it was on national public TV at the time. Okay. And um like they have what what they've done is uh like I always used to search for stuff from from live performances from the B Club, and it was so hard to find in recent in in in previous years. But if you go to their YouTube channel now, and it's just search for B Club, B Club Germany if you need to. Uh over the summer, they posted so much of their stuff on their YouTube channel, and there's so many great performances up there. Um just everybody who performed back in those back from those days, uh, have been or are now you can view those performances, and it's just there's so much great footage there. There's so many great live performances there, and of course, black. Sabbath is here, Johnny Cash is there, UFO, um, like just everything though. Yeah, that's cool. Another another German band called Epitaph, uh, some great old stuff. Um, so this is a cool song by the band Lucifer's Friend, but check out all of the other stuff from B Club, uh, all those performances. Well, it's just so cool to watch.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I gotta check that out. So I've never actually heard of uh Lucifer's Friend before. Um so the notes I wrote on, I've never heard it, so I listen to the song. I'm like, fuck. So I go, my note actually says never actually heard of them, but I'm assuming that Black Sabbath beat them to the punch. Right? Because it is kind of Sabbath-y-ish, you know.
SPEAKER_00Oh, for sure it is, yeah. For sure. But I think the band was around before like before Sabbath. Uh I'd I'd have to check. Uh like I think, like I said, they were they they were around in the late 60s as well. So they they probably like started off as a band right around the same time. But I don't know, like it's just be who whatever it is, it's being in the right place at the right time, and record companies and and whatever it is. Um obviously Black Sabbath was a bigger, better band. Yeah, of course. And I don't know if Lucifer's friend made it outside of Germany. Um like so but so that's the difference. But but I think I think this is incredible stuff. Yeah, and I think they they probably deserved a lot better than maybe what they ended up getting at the end of the day. So cool, cool stuff. And there's lots of great music like that out there. That's uh that's what I like discovering this stuff. It's just so awesome to I I get excited when I you know these these bands that we all know and love and stuff, it's great when they put you know put out new music and whatever, but I love discovering this old stuff that nobody else has heard of before. Yeah, it's just so cool. Yeah, it's yeah, it's awesome.
SPEAKER_02Well, there's that, and then you get the like you've never seen them before or heard them before, so you're discovering a brand new band, hopefully with a good like catalog, plus all the live performances, plus who they've played with and toured with, plus who their influences are. So you get so much new music from discovering a new band. That's right. Yeah, I know I'm the same with you. I love that. I love that too. Yeah, so check it out. Check it out, check it out. Um, okay, my turn. What the hell am I rocking this week? Uh did you listen to all my shit?
SPEAKER_00I listened to all of it. I do. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02I don't think I had any pop music this week. Uh I don't know. I gotta double check. Uh okay, anyways. My pick of the week is not really. Not really. Uh my pick of the week this week is a band called Suspect 208. This band is fucking cool. Uh, so are you familiar? Did you read up on these guys?
SPEAKER_00Well, I tried to find out a little bit about who they are because I'd never heard of them before. Okay.
SPEAKER_02So who it is, is the voice is uh Noah Wyland, who is Scott Wyland's son. The bass player is Trey Trujillo, who is Robert Trujillo's son from Metallica. Oh, okay. The bass player or the drum player is London Hudson, who is Slash's son. And the guitar player is Nico Tangist, son of Mr. Tangit. So it's an all-star kid rock band. And when you put this track on, it's obviously Scott's son, uh Nolan singing it. He sounds at some points. I thought it was Scott singing. It gave me chills. It's one of the first tracks that give me chills this full year.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. It's it's it's pardon me, it's funny because uh I didn't I didn't go that far to find out that they were sons of all these other great musicians, but but it but in the information in some of the con comments I read, like like, is this is this STP? Like some people were saying, like, is it STP? Is it Metallica? Like it almost sounded like and that's why. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02So but yeah, I want to see these guys. I want to hear some new shit from these guys. Like, you know, obviously we lost Cornell, which was a devastating loss, and Chester and Scott. Uh, but I really miss Scott. Like, I love I'm a big STP guy. Some of his solo stuff is pretty good, but uh yeah, I so to hear this, it kind of you know, hear the chills again, like well, this is this is super cool. I was uh super stoked by it.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, now yeah, it is a great song, and uh is there an album coming, or what's uh what's the story here?
SPEAKER_02Um the um the official um from Slash's son, London Hudson. Uh me and the boys from Suspect208 released our first single, Long Awaited, out everywhere now. Link in bio, check it out. We got some more shit coming soon. And then the other hashtag is the uh hashtag 208 shit. Right on. So uh yeah, I look forward to that. That's gonna be fucking cool. Cool, yeah.
SPEAKER_00Like I said, like I said, good song. Now, my one question I have is there something lacking in the mix? Did you find that it didn't sound right?
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I think it's just I think it's underproduced. Uh I think it could be a demo. Uh who knows? Who the fuck knows? I hope it's not it, because this song needs to be like this song should be engineered like the best of them and made to play loud because it should be these are all I mean the song kicks out, it has a hook, it has an awesome chorus, like it's a it's actually a great little song. So, you know, hopefully the rest of the album sounds like this, and hopefully it's mixed and mastered properly.
SPEAKER_00Okay. I'm just I I know you're I know you're big on production, and I noticed that right away that it's maybe doesn't made doesn't meet maybe your standards. Oh, it doesn't. But did you you know what? I noticed it right away myself. And uh so uh yeah, hopefully they've got uh if there's an album coming up or something like that, hopefully there's a better mix to it for sure. I hope so.
SPEAKER_02Um so last week we talked to Todd Hancock. Uh great interview, by the way. You can check it out at oldmanhealclouse.com. But um we missed this song, and we I think we had it a week before this too. Um it's uh Wolfgang Van Halen's tribute to his dad, Eddie Van Halen, using the old school, old school Van Halen moneth uh mammoth uh moniker, which is cool. But apparently he got permission to use that. But the song is called Distance, it's a tribute to his old man. What a great song.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, pretty cool tune. Good tribute to to his to his dad, and uh of course we're all missing Eddie, so uh I'm sure everybody has seen that, and but if not, uh definitely check out the song. Yeah, it's pretty cool.
SPEAKER_02So he what's interesting, we go we go back and talk about System of Down. So everyone knows who Eddie Van Halen is. He was obviously lost, and this tribute came out two weeks later. This song only has three million plays on YouTube. So but you know, but the you have the time death of Eddie Van Halen plus the tribute to him, plus it's by his own son who played in Van Halen with his own with his old man, but it only has three million views, so for a system of down to get one billion views, it's kind of cool to kind of cool to see that. Uh, for sure. But uh yeah, that that's fucking cool. But yeah, check it out if you haven't heard it. You ma is someone cutting onions in here because you might cry a little bit, but uh it's not bad. Uh next song out of my list was um Metallica did a tribute for uh their All Within My Hands benefit to uh benefits whatever charity they're they're pimping out this week. But they did uh acoustic set and then they did a rocking out set, and they redid Creeping Death Acoustic. I don't know if the footage is still up. I think it still is as of recording this today. But this version of Creeping Death Acoustic fucking kills. Like you wouldn't think it would be okay, but like do you hear it acoustically? You're like, okay, yeah, I see what they're doing. It was it was pretty cool. Did you get a chance to listen to it? Did you enjoy it?
SPEAKER_00I did. I enjoyed what they did with this song.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Uh because I don't I was reading through the notes and stuff like that too, because they posted a bunch of different um things about about the tracks. Yeah. And I don't think they've really played this song this way before. Yeah. So uh it's really interesting. Take on it. Yeah, I did I did enjoy it.
SPEAKER_02Uh if you're looking at the performance, they also do um an acoustic version of Now That We're Dead off the latest ver album uh Hard Ride with Self-Destruct. It's like the eighth, fifth song in. Totally done acoustically again. It's awesome. They do a version of Nothing Else Matters, and they have a bunch of guest musicians just kind of filling up, playing a mandolin and some piano parts. The version of Nothing Else Matters on this is actually pretty cool. There's a lot of piano in it, so if you get some time, check it out. But if you don't, fuck it, just watch Creeping Death. It's awesome. So, um, yeah, so you listen to that, that's awesome. I got the first Christmas song of our uh Old Man and Yellow Clouds podcast to buy a band called August Burns Red. They're covering the home alone theme. So August Burns Red is this metal core band who have awesome breakdown riffs. So they actually released a Christmas album. I I think they do one every year. But this Christmas album has All I Want for Christmas is you, uh, The Most Wonderful Time of the Year, uh, Winter Wilderness, What Child Is This? Last Christmas, and the one I highlighted was the home alone theme. Fuck this rules. Did you did you enjoy it? Did you like what the hell are you listening to? Ba humbug.
SPEAKER_00I just I just I uh I just I'm not a fan of Christmas music, and even if it's fucking metal notes, hard and heavy. Um you actually, you know what? I shouldn't I shouldn't say that. There are some you know I remember Lemmy, Lemmy and I don't know who it was, uh I think they did Run Rudolph Run or something like that. I think Scott Ian was involved or anyways, that was a pretty good tune, but uh I don't know. I just I'm just not a big fan of typically of Christmas music, I guess. So it was still a it was still a pretty heavy tune. You know, just just just the guitars was pretty sounded pretty good. Yeah. Yeah. I just I just it is what it is. Bahamba.
SPEAKER_02Bahamba. Okay, fine. The other Christmas song that I've every year on the 25th you have to play is Cory Taylor's X-Mas. Greatest Christmas song I ever made. We'll showcase that a little bit. Uh Cory Taylor's X uh Cory Taylor does a song called X-Mass.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, okay. Yeah, it's I'll check it out. Maybe, maybe I've heard it and I can't place it right now, but yeah. Yeah, check it out.
SPEAKER_02It's a good one.
SPEAKER_00Okay, I'll check it out.
SPEAKER_02Uh the next uh song I have is actually here's the pop song. Uh Miley Cyrus, a song called Night Crawling, but it's featuring Mr. Billy Idol. So I know I know she gotten some slack. She covered Rebel Yell, uh, one of her things. And she covers a bunch of hard rock. She covers Black uh Black Dog by Zeppelin. She does uh Round and Round by Rat. She did um covered a Pearl Jam song for her latest backyard session. But regardless, she released this new album. It's kind of a it's kind of a rocker, it has some rocking tracks on it. Features Billy Idol, it features Joan Jett, but this track features Mr. Billy Idol. The song is called Night Crawling. It's kind of Cynthia 80s-ish, but it's it's it sounds like 80s music. It sounds like a Billy Idol song. What what do you think about this?
SPEAKER_00Yeah, it's it's um, yeah, it's I don't know. It's it's not it's not bad. It's not bad. It's inter No, it's not bad. Yeah, it's not bad. It's it's definitely interesting. It's uh at points there it does have a good good power guitar to it, and then in the other times, yeah, it sounds pretty poppy. But um interesting that she got Billy Idol to kind of guest on the song, and um you know, I don't I don't I mean he sounds good, there's there's no question. Um does it add to the song? Not necessarily, but it's still a you know, it's still a good guest appearance to guest appearance. Yeah, yeah, for sure. So um you know, I'm not gonna go out and buy the album, but but but I think like I mentioned last time uh she came up, it's it's kind of uh I I I pay a little more attention to her and sometimes and what she does. Again, not that I'm uh necessarily a fan or anything, but yeah, it's just there's some interesting things about her, I guess. So um Yeah, yeah, I can I can check out more of the album, maybe see what it's like. Yeah, yeah, for sure.
SPEAKER_02So when you saw it, you were just like, okay, well I'll see what happens. Yeah. Uh we're good to go. Well, that's good that you made it through. It's not a bad song. Check it out. Again, you can find all the information, all our episodes, all our music links, everything that Steven does a great job at Old Men Who Yellowclouds.com. Check it out. We have a bunch of cool shit up there. Uh, I got three more for you. Um, a band called Dead Sarah. This song's called Hands Up. I first heard of Dead Sarah from Neil Morrison, who we're gonna be talking to, I think hopefully soon. Uh Neil Morrison's an ex Sea Fox shock, but good friend of ours, so hopefully we'll chat with him soon. But he played a Dead Sarah song for the 90s at noon one day, I think. And that's where I first heard of Dead Sarah, but they have a new song, the first music in three years, with a song called Hands Up. Did you uh get a chance to listen to this? Was it kind of up your alley? Did you know of Dead Sarah before this?
SPEAKER_00Well, see, the names sounds really familiar to me, and I'm trying to and I still I still don't know, but I'm trying to think of where I heard them before or where what song maybe I I did like maybe like from them or something, and I just can't place it, and so I'm not really familiar with them. And uh I mean they're from LA, this is a pretty cool video. Um Female Fronted as well, of course. Um it's a great song, and um see what they see what else they come up with here and then because I think this is an album coming out soon too, isn't it?
SPEAKER_02Yep. So hopefully it's um it says where is it the lyric song? Oh shit, I don't have it with me. I think it comes out in the next couple months though, so keep uh keep your eye out for that. Um now we're going into the crossover song. The song that you and me both had was a song by uh the mighty Diamond Head covering a Metallica song called No Remorse. Yeah. So what's what's cool about this is that Metallica covered their song famously, MIEV. Um in whatever, and then they first played MIE Evil with the guys from Diamond Head in like the UK when they went touring there for I think the Master Puppets tour. Um so Diamond Head re-released their debut album, we recorded a bunch of their own shit, and they covered a Metallica song, so it's called No Remorse. Um so what's cool about this version of No Remorse is it's actually a little slower than the actual Metallica version. So it actually it's a little more heavier, and it's actually I think it's I think it's a brilliant cover. So they kind of they slowed it down, they kind of made it their own, and uh I yeah, I can't I have nothing bad to say about the song. It's a it's a cool cover, they did the song justice, and it's cool that Diamond Head's now covering Metallica.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. I think it's really cool what they did here. Um I like the way they do this more than how they re-recorded their own songs for this album. Yeah, I agree. It's like it's it's uh and again they're they're great tracks, like they so basically if you don't know that their 1980 debut album was called uh Lightning to the Nations. So they they've recorded re-recorded everything, uh called the album. It's the 40th anniversary, of course, so they've called it uh Lightning to the Nations 2020. Um and they added this tune on there, uh, this uh cover tune. And yeah, it's the I mean the other songs are good, uh, but this is this is this is such an awesome song. I mean, it's a great Metallica tune in the first place, but but yeah, the way they cover this, it just sounds so good. I love it.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, so check that out. Uh last one I have is by um uh Firstborn. We've talked about Firstborn before. This is Chris Adler's new band uh from uh ex-Lamba God and also features uh one of the Megadeth guitar players, ex-Megadeth guitar players. Uh I forget his name at the moment, but I forget his name. Yeah. Uh they cover journeys separate ways. So I don't mind, again, I go to production because Lambagod is so well produced. You listen to this and it's like, okay, it's kind of it's it's it's it's on the fence for me, but it's kind of a cool cover because I'm a big fan of Chris Adler. I love his drumming style, and I'm uh I like this journey song too, so it all kind of fit. But while I was listening to it and reading through the comments on YouTube, it says, Is this singer getting kind of bored of singing the song? Like you're kind of listening to it, you're just like, Well, he's okay. Well, I I kind of see what he's doing, but he kind of pulls it out at the end, and you're just like, okay, well, what what's really going on here? But as far as a cover, a journey cover by uh metal a metaled up uh journey cover separate ways, it was it's pretty good. What did you think of this?
SPEAKER_00It not it comes nothing close to the original. Yeah, yeah. Yeah, it could be true. I'm not sure why. It could be yeah, it could could be him, but yeah, I just I don't know. I just you know, a lot of songs, a lot of covers that we've been talking about recently, you know, are uh they're they're a pretty good job. And then the well the Diamond Head track is a perfect example. Exactly. And a lot of other ones that we've talked about have have been pretty good. They do the song and the and the band Justice that's recovering, but yeah, this one doesn't. It just doesn't. So I don't know what it is. Um yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I don't know. It's it's okay, it's cool to hear, but it doesn't, it's not not up to cusp. Not not at all. Yeah. Uh but yeah, yeah. So we're ending it with a downer. Sorry. But let us let's uh let us know what you think. Uh oldmenheyellowclows.com. Check it out. Like we have all our music picks up there. Everything we talk about, links and everything is oldmenheadyellowclows.com. Uh what the fuck else is going on? What else have you watched anything this week? What have you uh what have you got on the telly this week? Obviously, Horrorfest is over. It's been over for a while.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, for sure for sure. And uh, you know, I've I've I'm looking at prep and I'm trying to think if there was anything else we watched. Uh I've got I've got a list here of some stuff to watch, I guess. Um there's a trailer that came out for a movie called Wander that looks pretty cool. I think the movie is out next week. It stars Aaron Eckhart and Tommy Lee Jones. Um I had this on my prep from two weeks ago, so I can't even remember what the movie's about now, but I I'm getting old, but uh hey, I don't know. It looks like a cool movie. You should probably check it out anyway. So is it on Netflix? I don't know. Do you do you know? I don't even know if it's on Netflix. Fuck. I've got the link here. I'll watch it again.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I watched the trailer of it. Um button.
SPEAKER_00I don't know if it's coming out on Netflix or not. No, I don't think so. Um but it but obviously it's streaming, it's streaming somewhere. I don't think it's I don't think it's coming to theaters. Uh obviously, I think it's yeah, it's it's streaming somewhere, but I don't know if it's uh is this an Apple movie or yeah, who knows? I have no idea.
SPEAKER_02Anyway. But you know what's really cool about this is that Harvey Dent played Two Face and Tommy Lee Jones played Too Faced in the Batman movies, so it's two Too Faced.
SPEAKER_00That's right. That's that's right. I never even thought of that when I saw that these guys were together in this movie. Yeah, that's cool. Yeah. Uh I I I will mention the documentary that uh we talked about last week when we were joined by uh with Todd, uh that's the e the Eagles of Death Metal. Just because uh I I'll make sure I I post the trailer uh with with our other stuff here. And because it's uh you know, I just think it's worth watching. I think it's a pr a pretty cool documentary that covers um what happened five years ago in Paris and the terrorist attacks and stuff like that. And um yeah, so you should you should just make sure you check that out. So it's just a reminder, I guess, to watch it.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I have acquired that movie. I'll be watching it soon.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, cool. Um a couple other things we're we're catching up on Fargo finally. Uh season four is out. Uh we just for whatever reason we there was Halloween, there was a bunch of other shit going on. I think baseball was finishing up. I don't know. Lots lots of reasons. We kind of uh started Fargo season four and left it behind. We're kind of catching up here again. So it's a pretty good actually pretty good season. It's really gotten really interesting. And I think we've we're through episode five now, and uh it's it's pretty cool. So uh check that out. Something else that's on my radar here is the flight attendant. Yeah, yeah. It just debuted, it debuted last week. It stars uh Kelly how do you say her last name? Kayle Coco. Yeah. So if you don't know her, she's from uh Big Bang Theory. Big Bang Theory. You know, we started watching that and obviously it seemed it was a pretty good series, it seemed a few laps there, and we eventually got pretty fucking bored of it. It got yeah, we never did finish that. Uh I know uh I know they wrapped up last year, I think. Yep. So that this is a new series for her. Um it looks really cool. It's uh so basically she's a flight attendant. She wakes up in the wrong hotel and the wrong bed with a dead man, and I guess it carries on from there. So uh the trailer looks good. Yep. I think there's I have seen three episodes, is that correct? Or is it just one episode out? No, I don't know. I think it's just the one. Okay.
SPEAKER_02Uh but uh anyways, yeah. Uh this is on my list. Uh Kaylee's uh pretty easy on the eyes, so uh that's one of the main reasons why I'll be watching it. But yeah, we get a uh fight through Big Bang Theory. It has its up and its downs, but there's some pretty good stuff in there.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. For sure. I don't think we'll go back and catch up on those last couple of seasons that we punted or said fuck you two, but um anyways. Yeah, a few laughs there early on, so it was okay. But this one this one looks like it could be good for a few laughs, but it's kind of a kind of a thriller type suspense or crime type Series, so uh so it looks alright. That that'll be on our list next, I think. Yeah, what do you got?
SPEAKER_02Uh so I didn't watch anything this week because work has been kicking my ass this week. I've been working 12 hour shifts and it's been uh it's been killing me a little bit. But um every Friday, me and my uh dad watch a movie, the uh original Old Man, Old Man Baldwin original. Um we watched a movie called Fat Man this week. So Fat Man is with uh uh it's a Christmas movie, but it features uh Mel Gibson playing Santa Claus and someone offers a hit on him. So this Hitman tracks down Santa Claus and it's all about the shenanigans in between it. Fuck it, it's cool. It's up there with one of my new favorite Christmas movies. So uh yeah, you gotta definitely check that out. Uh so that's it. That's all I watched this week was Fat Man. So I haven't done much this week.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Yeah, I saw that one too. It looks, it does look pretty good. Um He he was in two movies that were kind of released just this past week, I think, and I forget what the other one is.
SPEAKER_02Um Mel Gibson was?
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I believe so. Like two Mel Gibson movies in one week. Uh I thought that was a kind of a uh surprise as well, but um Is that something you can uh uh yeah, there is a movie called Boss Level, I think. Was that it? That could be it, yeah, for sure.
SPEAKER_02So um and that featured um Naomi Watts is in that. Um I just saw I saw the trailer, like I saw the I saw it pop up on one of the uh sites I'm not allowed to talk about. Uh but uh I was like, hey, this looks kind of cool, and I kind of clicked on it and I didn't actually acquire it, but um yeah, it's uh it looks okay. Uh I'm I might watch the trailer, and if it looks any good, I'll I'll give it a I'll give it a watch. But yeah, he had two movies pop up this week.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, for for sure. I thought that was kind of cool. So those are on my list. Plus uh plus I see Tenant is coming out, is that correct? Is it finally being released?
SPEAKER_02Or uh so there's an HD rip of it right now. There's no 4K or 1080k rip of it, but it is uh I think the hotel rip is out online now. I want to see that movie. That's the the uh that's the one movie I regret not seeing in theater. I mean you can still go see it, it's still playing in theaters now, but because of COVID, I'm not stepping anywhere near a fucking movie theater.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, no kidding. Yeah, so that that was my question, I guess. I I can't even remember. Like, did it actually end up getting released in the theaters when they did open? I couldn't remember if that was one of the first movies that went out because I got pushed back so many times and uh so now it's finally now it's finally on well or about to be on the streams or it released to DVD, I guess. Is that what it is right away?
SPEAKER_02DVD or streaming or whatever it's gonna be. Yeah. You know what's interesting about movies and shit is that because everything's being pushed back and pushed back and pushed back, HBO has seemed to be doing a lot of work with the uh uh DC comic universe. So I think they're gonna simultaneously, as Wonder Woman 1984 gets released into movie theaters, it's gonna get simultaneously released on HBO for a premium of like 30 bucks or something like that. So you're able to watch it from your home for 30 bucks, or you can go see it in a movie theater. Yeah. So I it's not gonna be the first movie that does that, but I think they're gonna use it a lot to see kind of what happens. I know Disney did that with uh Mulan. Um that came out. I don't really know what the stats were on that, but it's interesting, man. Like it's we're in a new age. It's it's uh it's becoming uh because all these movies are made. They're just they're just sitting on them. Like it's Christmas time coming up, but uh, you know, it's uh I yeah, it's it's uh it's a crazy time for movies.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, for sure. I mean they spent up millions of dollars on all these movies to produce them, and they're getting no return on them. So uh they've gotta be creative uh in their in their ways here on how to how to how to market them and how to get them out there. But uh I know and and we this is something else we talked about before too, and I just don't know that I'm on board with any of this stuff as far as you know, charging you 30 bucks to watch it at home. Like like shit, it's already too expensive to go to a theater to watch some movies. Uh why should why should I pay 30 bucks to watch it from home? Like fuck, it just I don't know.
SPEAKER_02See, I'm I'm on the I'm on the other side of that because if I go see a movie, well I I I go see a lot of movies by myself, but um I would try to bring a buddy or my dad or or someone, so to see two of us to see a movie, we're already at 40 bucks. Plus popcorn, plus whatever it is, so you're about 60, 70 bucks to see a movie. I mean, obviously seeing a movie in a in a controlled and set like a like a an awesome setting with a cool crowd, it's it's a different experience. But you know, if I can rent the movie at for 30 bucks, watch it in 4K in the comfort of my own home with a kick-ass sound system set up and everything, I'm all for that. I will pay the 30 bucks without even breaking a sweat because there's two of us watching it guaranteed. Plus, we can make all the food we want, and it's just it's gonna be better because it'll be well, not better, but it'll be cool because it's still gonna be in 4K. So you kind of watch it once and you're kinda done. And I think when you watch it, you uh like you purchased the movie as well, which is cool. So I think I'm not too sure how that works, but um yeah, it's uh it's gonna be a different world, I think, coming up in about six this month. We'll see what happens.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, yeah, for sure. There's gonna be some changes because uh you know, I don't know. I know they're still open, but uh I don't know how many people are going to a theater these days, and even when this is over, I think we're kind of in a new era when it comes to all this stuff. And and and other things too, of course. Including including maybe live music and and all that kind of stuff. It's nothing's going to be the same as it was. That's and that's sad, but but that's just the reality of things coming coming up, I guess.
SPEAKER_02Yep. And it's uh it's all we can do, really.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, right.
SPEAKER_00Um so yeah, what else? Uh I think I think that's it. You got anything else you want to talk about? We're done. Nothing else uh here today.
