Why would you want to listen to two old guys yelling at clouds? And the worst thing? One of them is a fucking Swifty. Anyways, if you're still listening, here's Adam and Steven.
SPEAKER_01Yes, welcome out to it. This is the Old Men Who Yellow Clouds podcast, and we get together to talk about the things that matter to us. We are episode number 158. As we recorded, it is December 14th. It's approximately 11 a.m. and we are podcasting live out of Vancouver, British Columbia.
SPEAKER_02Good evening, good morning, good afternoon, whatever time it is here. Yeah, we honor and acknowledge that we join you today from the traditional ancestral and unceded chair territory of the Musqueam, Squamish, and Slywatooth nations.
SPEAKER_01You know it. That bearded guy you just heard, you can't see his bird, it's majestic, but that's Steven, and my name is Adam. Hello there, Steven. Hello, hello, Adam. Uh, before we get into things that matter to us, you can support our podcast by hitting our webpage. Oh shit, I actually don't know what our webpage is right now.
SPEAKER_02Are we still our are we still it's it's still safe to say old men who yell at clouds.com. So let's just go with that until I uh set things straight with you. Yeah, because I know it's a it's a work in progress. Lots of shit going on. Um we can talk about it a little bit here now, but we'll rewind it. Welcome.
SPEAKER_01Of course, you can support our podcast by hitting our webpage, oldmen who yell at clouds.com, and subscribing to our podcast. And if you want to help us out, please buy us a coffee. I think we've ever got only got two cups of coffee bought for us in like five years.
SPEAKER_02So only two cups of coffee, and both by the same uh same uh friend, uh fan, friend, fan, fan, friends uh uh of mine, and um it's been quite a while. Wow, shit. We're really trending up. We're really trending up. You know, that's uh a cup of coffee between the two of us over five and a half years, almost six years, is just not cutting it. It's uh we're in trouble.
SPEAKER_01Uh well, I mean, I'm not doing this for the money, although another cup of coffee would be nice.
SPEAKER_02Well, yeah, yeah, exactly. I mean, I've I've had two coffees already this morning, and um yeah, there's the two coffees that have been bought for us over the past six years. What time were you up this morning? I'm always up pretty early. I'm up at like 5 30, 6 o'clock every day, even on weekends. Yeah, I'm up early.
SPEAKER_01I woke up at 10.02 today. Oh, okay. I got 34 minutes sleep. Oh fuck, I gotta go get a coffee. Got a coffee, started my routine, and then listen to someone's nine-minute song, but we'll get in after.
SPEAKER_02I I'm glad I I I I was I finished off a little bit late. So um I'm glad you didn't get to it right away because uh there's a couple things I added, and um good. We're able to talk
New name. New website. Same shit!
SPEAKER_02about it.
SPEAKER_01Oh my body is ready. My body is so. Do we talk about the webpage? What if the website is being redesigned? Well rehosted.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, it's re-hosted. It will look a little bit different. You know what? It's it's uh I do this when I have time, and um and I have been putting a lot of time into it because I I so basically though, here's what's going on. We we are have moved to a different web host, and it means some big changes, at least in the back end. Uh, you will see a new website. It'll be again very minimal, at least to start, but you'll be able to to you know catch our podcast there. Um it means it means resharing uh the feed with all of our um platforms that do basically bring in or distribute the podcast. Um but it also means uh it means starting from scratch, though. That's that's the thing. So so all of these different web hosts, you know, they they they start to get a little bit funny when you uh start uploading audio and video, especially large large, larger amounts. And so far, you know, we've got 157 episodes for today. Uh that amounts to about 20 gigs of data. Now that doesn't sound like a lot, and it really isn't a lot for everyday things, but when it comes to a web host, they start to freak out when you start sharing or storing or backing up. Sometimes they call it backing up because they think they don't want you to be doing any of that stuff. It's not a backup that you know, these web these web hosts are you know, they don't want storage to be used for backups, for media, for streaming your stuff. And in some ways, that includes you know, podcast episodes. Yeah. So if you want to um, you know, you're gonna have to pay a shit ton of money, uh more money than what we're willing to pay if you want to start hope hosting large amounts of data. So I've been working on some different stuff here. I've got a solution in place. Uh, I actually had to tinker a little bit more again this morning with it. Basically, it's been two steps forward, one step back, uh, but I'm making progress here. So it's coming along. Hopefully, this week we'll have at least 157 and the last six episodes prior to that are now available on Apple Podcasts. Of course, I have got to add the new feed to all of these other platforms. So, you know, again, that takes a little bit of time to anyways. Anyways, we're getting there. And uh our our website is now the oldmen.ca. Oh. So you can still access us from oldmen who yell at clouds.com because we still own that domain. But if you go to and you're gonna you're going there now, I can tell, but there's nothing there yet. No, I'm just writing it down, so I don't fuck this up. But yes, the oldmen.ca. Sick. Yeah, so you'll hopefully be able to see something there real soon. Real soon. Real soon.
SPEAKER_01We're getting there.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, we're getting there. But again, I get again, some of our episodes are are going to become available again here real soon, starting with the most recent ones. Uh, as I said, Apple Podcasts, you can now find those uh all of our episodes, including the latest one, 157. You can find that there too. So anyway, big changes. Um, you know, that you may look at all of this and it's may not be a big big deal or a big change, but fuck, I've been putting a shit ton of work into this. Oh, I can only imagine. Yeah, and yeah, not that I have much time, but I've been trying. So that's where we're at.
SPEAKER_01I will personally buy you another cup of coffee.
SPEAKER_02That sounds good. One one thing we're going to be able to do that I've started doing with 157, and I don't know how it's going to work for a listener now or for somebody who wants to, you know, who finds our podcast on some of these platforms uh that are distributing, like again, Apple, Google, Spotify, whatever. Yeah. Uh I've had I'm starting to add transcripts. So um transcripts help with uh it's not gonna make us more money, but the idea with transcripts is it does make uh what's accessibility. Accessibility is a big thing now with websites, 100%. And that and then that includes podcasts. So if some people have uh some people like to have a transcript to go along with the podcast as they're listening. Um so that's now available starting with 157. I don't know how that works on these different platforms yet. It's um uh anyways, it's there. Um I'll figure it out, I'll play with it, I'll just make sure that's going to be available for people. So uh the other thing I'm working on is chapters. Like on our website, you notice that I've broke broken down different sections in time code and stuff like that so people can skip ahead. But you're able to you're actually able to insert chapters within the MP3 file itself. Um and that just makes skipping ahead or moving to each section a little bit easier, I think. So I'm working on that too. So uh cool things like that coming up, right? It's just all part of this uh podcasting 2.0 that uh I'm learning about, and uh it allows you to do these additional things just to make the experience uh a little bit more fun, I guess, for the listeners.
SPEAKER_01Well, you know what's crazy is we started this as our little COVID project and stuff, and yeah, since the time we started five, six years ago, whenever it's been, it's um it's multiplied so much. Like again, like these tools weren't around and we existed. Like all these weird ways of hosting weren't around and we started getting ready to rock. Um the girl, she listens to the podcast at like point like like two speed. So when she listens to us, it like she speeds it up. So our two hours showing up becomes an hour. We actually sound like young hip humans. You know, we're actually we're moving up in the world. But um, she leaves this Apple Podcast and it actually automatically like once it uploads it and stuff, like it doesn't happen instantly, but within one or two days, it auto-transcribes it for us. So that auto-transcribed already exists with Apple.
SPEAKER_02Oh, okay.
SPEAKER_01So that's cool because they do it on their end, I think.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, and I think Spotify does it as well. So, yeah, some of the platforms are allowed uh are able to do that automatically somehow, but um you can do it yourself as well, and then some sometimes, and maybe this might work better or more for the player that's going to be hosted for each episode on our website. Yeah. Because there obviously it was just a player, an audio player, right? But now I'm hoping that the transcript will be embedded into that player uh somehow on our website too. So uh, anyways, it's yeah, again, it's a work in progress, stuff I'm learning about all the time, and and again, when it's when it's have when I have time, that's when it's uh what it's all about here.
SPEAKER_01So oh yeah, no, time is uh are you finding like time is like this year went by so quick. I don't know if it went by quick for you, but I'm just yeah, I'm just it's just it's been a yeah, it's it's been a year.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, it's December 5th, well 14th today. It's uh we're halfway through December, the year is almost done, and I look back and I you know I think about things and like it's like it just flew by, and I just can't believe another one is over. And um yeah, it seems to go by quicker and quicker. I know I always say that. I tell it to everybody when we talk about this shit. It's just like the older you get, the the the the faster it seems to go by. And I know it's time is time, it doesn't stand still, but it doesn't move any quicker either. But it's uh yeah, it's crazy. We're losing, we're losing this battle of time. We are well, and we're all dying. That's what it is. If we're all dying, a slow death. Isn't that uh isn't that uh positive uh uh talk for our for you and I and for our listeners, eh?
SPEAKER_01Well, here let's let's cycle into that. I almost fucking died. There was uh I got major food poisoning. Oh fuck, no, major food poisoning. So I I I'm actually coming off of about about 26, 27 days off. Yeah. My first day back was last, yeah. I uh I had took a couple weeks off my birthday. Yep. Um so there's this baker. I'm gonna fuck these guys. There's this bakery called Bell Bakery right by Joyce Station, and I it's these little Chinese dumplings that have like meat, like they're filled with meat or or meat, so you can get them with uh chicken. There's a chicken deluxe one, and there's a pork one, and there's a barbecue pork one. I got the chicken one. I ate about 95% of it. The girl ate 5% of it. I was down for two full days. Like I was in bed, I couldn't move over. Things were coming out of my body that I didn't know existed. I was just, I was beyond sick. Like I couldn't, like, I was in bed, I was scrolling, I I couldn't sit up and go on my computer or watch a show. All I could do was lay down. I could you know when you're so sick that you have to convince yourself to roll over and plug your phone in? That was me. I'm like, oh my god. Like I was I've never been well, I mean, I think I've been that's it before, but I haven't been this sick in like 10 years, 10, 15 years. Like I was fucking done.
SPEAKER_02Uh that's doesn't sound very good. Like, are you are you sure it was food poisoning and not the flu? Like, is it uh did the better half get sick too?
SPEAKER_01Yeah, so was are you like I'm a like I live at home still, so my parents are around, so I'm obviously kicking around. I was isolated, but um but I ate like so she took a one bite of the dumpling that I had, and so she got the same thing. She was down for a day. Okay, okay. So we we pretty much isolated to that that place.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Um, so yeah, that was fun. Um and then I got sick again um last Saturday. I went to uh Moody Ales. Moody Ales is a brewery down on Brewers Row, and they're closing down. Their last day of operation is today or tomorrow. And um I got a flight of beers, like a little two, three ounce flight of beers, and the lady gave me the wrong fucking beer. Wait, oh fuck, it's okay, fine, fuck, whatever. So I drank it anyways. It tasted weird, it wasn't good, but I I downed it anyways. So I had a flight of beer and a beer, went to the next one, had a flight of beer and a beer, went to the next brewery, had a beer, and I had to go home because I got sick. So there was something in that beer I didn't agree with or whatever it was, and I was down for another day. Yeah. So fuck this. I I'm uh food like well, I don't know if that was food poisoning or I don't know, but whatever. I was I haven't been having a good couple weeks, but I'm on the mend. I feel better now, so that's that's really what counts.
SPEAKER_02Okay, well that's good. That's good. It's just you know, these things seem to knock us back, and as we get older, it's a little bit more difficult to to recover. It takes a little bit longer to recover from this shit, and yeah, our body just doesn't need to go through stuff like that. I mean, nothing nothing's wrong with being cleaned out real good once in a while, but you don't want it to happen that way.
unknownNo, man.
SPEAKER_01Like there's nothing left. I'm like, where's this fluid coming from? Like, holy fuck. Oh man.
SPEAKER_02Oh, see, it's it's pretty bad when you we it's bad enough we talk about age and shit, but when you talk about bodily fluids and that's getting disgusting, man.
SPEAKER_01You know, it's life, you know, and that's what our listeners appreciate is us talking about life.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_01All right, man. Let's move let's move on to a better and brighter things. Uh
Record Store Black Friday 2025
SPEAKER_01we just m uh Black Friday has a come and gone. It was record store day. Did you end up grabbing anything for Black Friday?
SPEAKER_02Um you know, so I I may have mentioned last time, you know, what was going on that day because we had a we finished up a conference um, you know, with work and um Yeah, you're at River Rock or something, right? Yeah, so I came out of there early in the morning. But um Oh, yeah, you know what? No, I was home in time, and what I did was I was able to go down to um uh sorry, I'm just trying to bring up my discography here. Um like I I use um like I use discogs to track all my my collection, and we've talked about that before, right? So um, anyways, what was I saying? Yes, so I got home early enough that I was able to get to Beat Street down here on Hastings and just off Richards uh downtown here. Yeah, so and you know what? I showed up and there were and I was late. Like typically I'm for at least for the regular record store day, I'm there at least an hour before it opens. Uh it opened again this time around at 10 a.m. I was there by 9.10, I think, or 9.15. So I was still there early, but not as usually as I usually do. Uh, there were five people ahead of me, only five. Normally it's been down the block. Like it's been by that time, it's normally it's normally a pretty big lineup. And you risk, if you're at the back of the line, sometimes you risk getting what you came there for, right? Because again, depending on the number of copies that are available at that particular store. Um, yeah, five people. But you know what? When you look at the list this year of of releases, it was actually pretty disappointing.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_02At least, at least for stuff that I'm interested in. Uh overall, the collection of of releases was not as big as it usually is. And Black Friday is always a little bit smaller than the uh than the one in the springtime. Like it makes me wonder, like, again, all of this is really good. It's good for independent labels, uh, record stores, uh, all of this stuff, right? It's yeah, it's good. So I'm not trying to diminish it, but I've been saying all along now that it's like it's becoming a little bit too watered down. It's becoming, it's like, you know, every uh Tom, Dick, and Harry wants to get involved in some way, and they just issuing issue a bunch of slop. It's it's like it's like it's losing its edge. Yeah. Right? I don't like I don't know if other people feel that way or not, but it's it's just not the same. It really isn't. It's not as exciting. It's not like I really anticipate, really anticipate this event every single year now anymore, like I used to, because they're you know, you used to be able to like shit, I really want that, right? So I'm gonna get down there nice and early, and now it's oh well I don't know if I make it, I make it. You know, it'd be nice to get a couple things, but whatever. Yeah, I'm saving myself most some money if I don't get this stuff, right? So that's that's how I feel this has become. And um yeah, I don't know if I'm alone in that and or not. Uh I'm who knows, I might think differently than other people, but anyways, anyways, that's that's the way it is. Now, having said that, I did pick up a couple of releases. Um one of them actually is is pretty cool. It's a it's a reissue, it's a vinyl reissue from a band called Slowburn. Slowburn was John Garcia. John Garcia is from Caius, and of course he went on to form some other bands after that. He's the vocalist. Uh, one of those bands is called Slowburn. They issued uh an EP way back in 2000 and I forget what that when that came out, 2001, or it's been almost 25 years, anyways. Yeah, uh, I think there was probably an initial vinyl run at that time. But uh I know I've got the CD, and you know, they it's it's I mean it's hard to find. It's a very rare release, I think. So the vinyl from that time is probably the same. Uh anyway, so I picked up that uh because it's uh so it's a 12-inch, there's only four songs. Like I said, it's an EP, but so this is a 12-inch uh all four songs on one side, and on the other side is uh is an etched um yeah, it's just etched on the other side. And there's some cool stuff uh these companies are doing now with you know with things like that. Not only colors, you know, but they if there's um you know they just put an etching on the other side to well, if it's not uh in this case if all four songs fit on one side, so you know, you they decided to do something with the uh other side that doesn't have any content. So uh anyway, so I picked up that. The other one I got is from a band called Witch. Uh lots lots of bands called Witch, of course. This Witch uh is from a uh band from Zambia, Zambia in Africa, of course. Uh in case people don't know where Zambia is. I don't know what part of Africa is uh is Zambia, actually. Anyway, Zambia stands for We Intend to Cause Havoc. Uh so kind of a kind of a cool name. Uh but this this band was was around like in the in the 70s. So this is a release um uh of theirs, a re-release, I guess, of theirs. Um uh the album is called uh what is this one called? Um shit, I had it. Oh fuck. Oh fuck, where is it now? What is the album called? Okay, hang on. Hang on. It's called Fool's Fool's Ride. Actually, so actually it's a collection of their singles from the early 70s. Sweet. Um so so it is really cool. It's it's it's a it's a really it's a cool sound. Like it's a it is they do play a psychedelic rock, uh garage rock type music. Um but being from Africa, it it's just got this, it's a it's different. Um it sounds really cool. Yeah, I mean you you should check it out. It sounds um there's some other bands from Africa from Zambia that that I have listened to, and it's all really cool stuff. And um anyway, so that's an album that I picked up. I just got those two things. So um there were a couple of other releases that I didn't uh they didn't come in, actually, because that's the other thing with record store day. Sometimes these stores don't always get the shipments. Um yeah, because I think there was a Tom Petty uh a live anthology series, uh I think they called it anthology volume one or something. So it's different, just different live, rare live recordings, I think, from Tom Petty. Uh I didn't get that. That one didn't come in, actually. That was one of them. So uh that's all I bought. That's all I bought. So I don't know if you got to go anywhere yourself or picked up anything.
SPEAKER_01No, uh it's uh I've uh made the decision to stop collecting the physical media because I'm saving up for the house. So I haven't really bought anything in the last three years, four years record-wise, or final or records or CDs, if you can still buy CDs, or you know, like I don't buy much anymore just because trying to save up for that
Housing and commuting in Vancouver
SPEAKER_01house. And that's maybe the other thing. Like, maybe the cost of living has gone up so much that people just can't afford to go buy a record anymore. Maybe that's hurting the industry or everything in general.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, absolutely. I think that's a big part of it too. You know, things are things are not not cheap anymore. And uh not that they were cheap, especially in a in a center here or city like Vancouver, but um, but things have gotten even worse over the past three or four or four years. Well since COVID, things have gotten pretty bad, I think.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_02And uh it's just been made worse by uh by Trump and the economy in general, I think. So um yeah, so what are you gonna do? Well, if you uh hey, saving up for a house is a is a big uh is a big deal, and that's a lot of money itself, too. So yes, you've gotta do what uh do what you can. What are your plans with that? When do you hope to get into that market? And where you where are you looking?
SPEAKER_01My budget is 500,000. Yeah. Uh so whatever that gets me around the time, you know, give or take, whatever it is. But uh a lot of cool things happening in Langley, a lot of uh different things going around that way. So just kind of take away or just take a look around to see what's available. I'm probably about another two and a half years out. Realistically, I want uh 300,000 saved. Um, so probably that's four-ish years out because I need a safety net after. Like once you move in, things are gonna get tight, so you just need extra cash kicking around, whatever for whatever reason, car breaks down or emergency fund-wise, or you know, that that last minute trip to see Metallic at the sphere, you know, whatever it is. Yeah, so um, yeah. So doing that, so in about the last two-ish years, I've saved pretty close to a hundred grand. Yeah, well, so busted my ass. So I I hope that another it's probably four-ish or four-ish years before I uh start looking. I know that you're gonna be in the hot or cold market. Who cares? There's never any right time to buy a place, it's when you are ready to rock. Yeah, um, I could physically go buy a place tomorrow or and do it and fill out all the paperwork and go, but then I'm gonna be I'm gonna be house poor, won't be able to do anything. It's just it's gonna be bad. I still want to be able to live life and go out to restaurants and you know, pay, pay for some shit. So I figure if you pay half put at least half down your place, it brings your mortgage down by half, which is reasonable for a solo person. And if I have a partner, it's gonna be even sweeter. But as of right now, just working through it and trying to get there whenever I get there.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, that's I mean, that's a good good plan. Um, and everybody has to do what's best for them, of course. Yeah, I mean, the 20 you you have about a 25% down payment right now by the size of it, and that's that is pretty good. Yeah, uh, but it still means you've got a $400,000 mortgage minimum. Yeah, and I don't know what monthly payments look like on something like that, but um but yeah, that's a shit ton of money. And I I mean, obviously a limit of around $500,000 probably limits where you can go too, doesn't it? So you were talking Langley, and you know, I'm not sure. Uh yeah, you know, obviously the further out you get, the cheaper things are, at least a little bit anyway, I would think. Yeah. But um yeah, yeah, it's uh I don't know. Yeah, I've I've been a homeowner. Uh I know what it's like. Uh obviously since moving to Vancouver. I never thought for a second that I would ever be a homeowner living out here again. So I mean that's just just just the way it is, and just where we are in life and and all that stuff, right? It's for us, and again, this is for us, it's not for everybody, but for us, you know, the rental market works. Uh, there's just the two of us, you know, we've got no kids. Uh we love living downtown. I I don't mind not having a vehicle. We don't mind using public transit. Yeah. Um you know, so all of those things, right? You know, convenience to shopping, groceries, convenience to get to work, all of that is just ideal for us right now. And I could and again, to to drive to work, like there's there's no fucking way that I would want to drive to work every single day. And again, that's that's my preference, that's my right, I guess. That's the way I want to do it. So I'm not saying it's for everybody, but like I I could not imagine driving to work. I mean, even last week I was in the office, um, or the w was it the week before? It's you know, it's you know, talking about people who do who do even take transit from East Van, you know, it takes them even over an hour to get to the office, right? Yeah, there because there's no direct routes, you gotta take a couple different buses or whatever. Uh people do drive from further in the valley, and and again, like I it takes an hour and a half, hour and a half to drive to the office. Like, like, okay, you can do it. Just don't complain, just don't complain to me because that's your choice. Um I mean, it's just like I you know, I don't know how people do it because I couldn't. There's no way. There's no way I could do it.
SPEAKER_01Hour and a half just kills you. I'm debating, you know, there's uh might be some opportunities arising, but I might have to commute downtown every day. And I'm like, oh man, I do not want to do that. Uh I'm at off time, so it's not too bad, but it's 45 minutes each way. Uh well, 45. So, like, the problem is traffic's fucked. So at nighttime, like, I can get it's two o'clock, minimal people on the road, 2 a.m. I can get to where I need to be, still driving safely, not ripping, not ripping through the speed limit, just driving safely. I can get to where I need to be in about 30 to 40 minutes, depending on how many lights you hit and whatever's going on, and whatever it is. That same route during like now, if I were to leave now, that now becomes like an hour, an hour and 10 minutes. And it's because of the fucking idiot drivers, they don't know what they're doing. Like it's you always see little pockets and what's happening, you get one little guy just poking along that screws literally screws everything up. Yeah, it's brutal, it's it's absolutely brutal. Yeah, do you find your stress levels low because you're taking transit, or do you still kind of get pissed off in transit when you're ripping around?
SPEAKER_02Um, I'm sure it's a lot less than than it would be if I was driving, that's for sure. Yeah, but you know, there's there's still things, you know, you still have to deal with people, and and again, and again, this is overall, it's less than probably having to have to drive every day. But I find that anytime, whether it's going to going to work or going someplace else, using public transit still is a challenge in some ways. Maybe challenge isn't the right word, but you know, dealing with dumb, inconsiderate people. Um, you know, trying to get on a bus, and you know, if you're in a lineup, I guess it's sort of a makeshift lineup. I don't know who uses a lineup anymore, but you know, it the thing that pisses me off is you've got these young people who just crash right in, or they go in through the back door or something like that, right? And it's just like, you know, here you are, you know, you're at the front of the bus, you're waiting with everybody else to get in, and there's some open seats, you know they are, but then some assholes go into the fucking back door, and then all of a sudden the seats are all gone, right?
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Um, not that I need to sit down, but hey, I've got a bad back, a bad neck, some bad shoulders. Uh, I would like to sit down when I can. There are other times where I don't care because I'm sitting all day at work anyway. So, you know, why not? So, you know, I don't mind standing in the bus. But the point the point is, number one, people have their fucking backpacks on in a packed bus, and that sucks. You know, take your fucking backpack off. Number two is um not that I'm a senior, but hey, if you know, you know, these young people should be offering their seats. Hey, I I look older, I've got the beard, anyways. That makes me look older, I think. But Santa, it's it's yeah. It's not like I ex like it's not like I need to sit down, but hey, if somebody's gonna offer me a seat, then great. Thank you very much. I'll take it. If you know, if I feel like it. Sometimes I don't. And sometimes, believe it or not, people do offer their seats still. Yeah, overall, these young people, they've got their fucking headphones on, they've got their fucking phone in their face, uh, their their face in their phones, and they don't give a shit about anybody else around them. And there are these old people, these I shouldn't call them old people, these seniors or elderly people who who who who need a seat, and you know, nobody offers them a seat. So I'm not talking about myself necessarily here in this case, but I'm just talking in general. You know, there are people who they deserve to be offered a seat, and these people are not doing that. And um, yeah, it pisses me off. You know, so it's just it's it's frustrating things like that, right? It's yeah, it's still overall the stress level is shit. I I walk, I walk whatever, five, seven minutes to the bus stop in the morning, especially when it's not too busy. Uh hop on the bus. I'm at the office uh 10 or 15 minutes later, right? It's oh that's money. Stress free. It's uh I don't have to deal with the traffic. Um so yeah, so overall it's it's it's much better. I just uh I wouldn't ask for it any other way, really. Except for working from home. Except when I do have to go to the office, I'd rather stay home. Oh yeah, it's way easier. But uh yeah, I still I still love working from home. I really do. I know there's times when I need to be in office, but yeah, working from home is great. I hope that doesn't change.
SPEAKER_01And then uh, you know, you're talking these people who are commuting, like I mean, we've had the torrential downpour for the last two years. Abbasford is underwater, chilliwac's fucked.
SPEAKER_02Like it's have you been keeping up on what's going on out that way, or well, yeah, I've been kind of watching the news and stuff like that, or at least looking at uh you know the the stories on the on the internet. Uh yeah, pretty bad. It's just it's fucked again. It's uh yeah, this weather is pretty screwy, and uh you know, again, it's all because of climate change. And um yeah, it really impacts the people out there, that's for sure. I mean, downtown was wet, no question, it was wet down here, but it's not like it was out there. That's that's for sure. You know, I don't know of any flooding that necessarily that happened here downtown. You know, the drains seem to handle everything for the most part, anyway. Um yeah, that's pretty shitty out there, definitely.
SPEAKER_01You know, and the highways are the highways still closed? There's like I mean, there's I'm getting breaking news updates. Yeah. Um, so like the last one I just got was Highway 1 reopens through Abbotsford after Friday. Okay. So it says one eastbound lane, both westbound and eastbound on highway stretch have been opened between highway 11 and number three. Uh road through Abbotsfords are now open. So that's like three days, whatever it is. But I mean it's still yeah, it's yeah, man, it's it's rough. It's rough.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, it's um yeah, it's not good. I don't know. Part of it is that river, that same river that comes up from Washington State, right? Yeah. Um, so let's blame Trump.
SPEAKER_01And they got hammered down there too. Like some of the places in Bellingham are flooded out and whatever it is. So it's just not us. And you're right, the people who say global warming isn't a thing, like it's December. This time, you know, 15 years ago was fucking minus 18. Now we're like plus nine, like it's nine degrees right now. It's gonna flip. When did it flip last year? Like late January? Yeah, early February. I can't remember. It just it flips, and it's now hey, it's minus 25. Oh fuck, here we go. Um, like you see the North Shore Mountains every day. I see the North Shore Mountains every day. There's no snow up there. They're they're yeah, they're they're hurting. So yeah, it's uh we are getting we're getting hammered in more ways than one.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, well, I was talking to my mom already just before uh we started here and um you know in Alberta, and it's yeah, it's middle December, and they got some snow last week. Uh and it and it's been cold at times out there. Like they've had the minus 20, I think minus maybe even minus 30 weather already in parts of Alberta, maybe not where my mom is, but up in Edmonton, I think it got pretty cold. And uh, anyways, it's been pouring there, it's been raining, so it's it's warmed up, it's you know, middle of December, it's raining, uh, it's raining lots, it's raining heavy, and um like that's that's fucked up. Yeah, like it's uh it's really yeah, it's crazy weather. So um, yeah, I don't know. I don't know.
SPEAKER_01It's gonna hit and then it's just gonna get cold, and that's gonna screw it up.
SPEAKER_02That's that's the big thing, right? Like it's gonna get shitty outside, it's gonna get slippery, and people aren't gonna be able to handle it, and people are gonna fall, and uh that's the last thing I want to happen to my mom, of course. And you know, not that she has to go out anytime uh uh any much anymore, but uh you know, when she does, she's gotta be damn careful, and that's for sure. Sucks.
United States and your social media history
SPEAKER_01And then I don't know if you read this, but the Cheetos fucking the social media, he's uh implementing a new bullshit order. Says tourists would have to reveal their last five years of social media activity under new Trump plan. Did you take a look at this? The best part about this whole thing are the comments. And me and you, me and you are personally fucked. If they catch a podcast episode, I'm fucked. Like we're fucked. Um, but yeah, I remember you deleted all your socials. Um whatever. You've been about social free for 10 years now, seven years, five years.
SPEAKER_02For the most part, for probably well, remember, I think I did when we started the podcast. I think I started a Twitter account again, didn't I? I can't remember. Yeah, I think I did temporarily, but but yeah, I I deleted that again in a in a hurry, that's for sure. So yeah. Um, but you know, still, you know, all of this is part of like there it's it's there's this is a big picture. Like this particular um disclosure, I guess, or whatever it is that they Trump wants to call it, or they want to call it downstairs, uh down downstairs, down there. Um this is uh I think they apply to a limited number of comp uh countries, and I don't think Canada is one of them. And it's and it's um I think it's to people who are are trying to enter without a visa. So I think that maybe that would there are some yeah, some guidelines or something around it. So I and I don't think Canada is on that list, but the fact that it's happening is will still affect a lot of people. Um yeah, I and I think I think it's uh as you know, I think this this is it's bullshit. And it's um it's I don't know, and it's all about Trump and his ego. Like, like I don't like the thing is a lot of countries are kind of heading in this direction, anyways, about um you know, nothing, especially on your phones being private, like that they should um like it there's no privacy in in their minds. There's there's there's no privacy, and we have a right to search anything we want. Yeah, because you know, some different things that have happened even recently, like like Australia was the first one, uh did and this just happened last week, I think. They have made um social media well, they've banned it for people under 16 years old. Yeah, I saw that. Yeah, so there's that. There are places, there's a countries in Europe, and I think the United States could be involved in this too, in that they think that they should uh there should be a backdoor so that they can monitor all of these um all messages that people are coming through. So not just your regular SMS stuff, yeah, but all of these apps like Signal, which are encrypted and meant for private communication, yeah. They are saying that all of these apps should have a back door so that they can get in there as well. And uh and and basically if you don't make that happen, well then your app is made illegal. And uh so so there's a bunch of stuff like this happening all throughout the world. But again, I guess my my question was uh what I was gonna get to. If Trump wasn't president, would stuff like this be happening in the United States? Uh I don't know. Yeah, I don't know. See, because a lot of it is him not wanting people, regardless of who you are or where you are, he does not like people talking bad of him. Yeah, or talking down about him, right? And it's so that's the thing, it's all a fucking upstairs, it's all an ego thing with him, and he wants control over that because he's a fucking narcissist. Yeah, he wants control over everything everywhere, and you you know, just yeah, I I mean we could go on about some other stuff that's been going on recently with him uh from Venezuela and like all like he's just he he he's he he wants a Nobel Peace Prize so badly, right? But you know, but here he is here he is doing trying to do this peace plan between Ukraine and Russia, and he's basically up Putin's ass. Yeah, because because he's he he is basically telling Ukraine that hey, just give Russia what they want and let's fucking end the war now. Well, that would mean Ukraine giving up at least 20% of the country that they held before all of this bullshit started. Right? Like, like fuck off. You know, Venezuela, like what the hell is going on down there? He's bombing these boats. He doesn't he at least he has not provided any proof that they are running drugs or anything like that. He's just blowing these fucking people out of the water. Now he's going in and seizing oil tankers coming from Venezuela. Like it's just like fuck off, asshole. Yeah, stick to your own fucking country and clean that place up before getting involved in anybody else. Well, how many more years does he have left? Oh fuck. No, I he's still got three years left. This is only year one, man. Only year one. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01See, we talked about time going by so fast.
SPEAKER_02This is going by so slow. We're because while it might be year two that he's is he in year two now? Oh fuck, I don't know. I love it. Let's let's Google it. Because midterms are next year, right? So which is two years after the regular elections for president. So midterms are next year, so that means the next presidential election is 2028. Is that right?
SPEAKER_01Yeah, so I think so. Uh Donald Trump's the timeline of the second president of Donald Trump during the first quarter of 2025. He uh was president January 20th, 2025.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, that's when he got sworn in. So basically, basically we've got another three years of this bullshit.
SPEAKER_01Oh, good.
SPEAKER_02And um, you know, so he so here's the other thing. Since we're talking about all this, just last week another fucking thing happened where where a man was arrested because they alleged that he was wiped his phone before uh a search with uh the the CBEP, the whatever, what is that called? The the uh customs border, customs customs and border protection agency. Basically the border guards, the U.S. border cops. Um so yeah, this happened on uh oh, that's when he was indicted. He was indicted by a grand jury on November 13th, and an arrest warrant was issued the same day. Anyways, it says that on January 14th, he knowingly destroyed contents of of the pixel phone for the purpose of preventing or impairing government authorities from taking the property into their custody. See, so so I think like if you read the whole thing, I don't I don't believe in there it says that they were targeting like if you were if if if they suspected you of committing a crime and uh you knew that they were coming and then you even then is that I don't know. Even then uh and then you deleted your phone, could that be considered um uh what's it called? Could that be c considered obstruction? I don't know. But see, but but I heard that he wasn't even charged with a crime. Like other like other than this, he was not yeah, like I I don't think he did anything wrong, right? So all he did was clear his phone and they of course knew that right away and yeah.
SPEAKER_01I I don't I mean from what I can tell from the stories I've read they they were not targeting him they did not suspect that he was doing anything wrong or had any content on his phone um that would incriminate him uh and and they they're they're doing this right it's like it's like fuck it's like you know that's that's just invasion in privacy invasion for sure and it's just I don't know I don't know yeah like it's it sucks because we live and die by these fucking things like you're on it so much it's a lifeline oh where's my phone like people lose their fucking mind over these things yeah and like I don't know like I don't know your Android I'm Apple if I enter in my password wrong five times it automatically wipes yeah yeah and um yes and Androids have that capability as well yes so that that I have that set up I'm ready to go uh just and I lock like it's I mean I can't lock it down quite as much as your Android I can but like I have different like the charging ports you can't charge this phone unless I unlock it and plug it in like there's different things they can do because they there's like tools and software out there to force break your phone open and as far as I can I've uh locked it down as much as you can do uh and be ready to rock that way so even if the phone gets seized at the border okay yeah fuck good luck you get five chances and it's fucked like and that's it's so am I obstructing justice or am I just keeping my shit safe? See yeah that's and that's and that's what it is because you know because it's my phone like I I can give you my phone here you go Steven enjoy it but I have to unlock it before you can see what's going on like I know you're not gonna go fucking look at my bank apps or whatever you go on my socials I don't go fuck but like even that stuff is locked down with password and two step authentication that's ripping down to me and face ID and all that shit as much as I can get it down. So like that's me get but even if I gave it to the fucking guy I have nothing to hide he still can't access the shit because everything is all face ID'd and all that stuff.
SPEAKER_02So yeah but but that's but that's a thing. Yeah they would still make you unlock it. Yeah even if it's face face ID or your or your fingerprints or whatever it is see that's the thing biometrics are are secure but they are I think under the laws they are not covered so that so that if you if they want you to unlock your phone using your fingerprint or your your face ID or whatever for your face scan you have to do it. I don't obviously they're not gonna like it but but under the law or whatever the guidelines are and they're very um I don't know I guess they're open to interpretation I suppose but yeah uh basically what they're what the experts are saying is that if you are going to be crossing the border or entering the United States to delete your fingerprints delete your your your facial facial recognition so that you are not logging in with those um uh in that manner and that it's better to use a password yeah but even so they're saying at the borders anything goes and they will still force you to unlock your phone regardless of the method that you use to unlock it. Yeah um and and once they are in they can do whatever the fuck they want including checking your bank accounts and because yes they are still they may be protected with a password manager or something like that but again they're gonna ask you to unlock it all. They're gonna ask you to unlock your social media accounts they can uh uh ask to unlock your signal account so that they can read your messages even though it's a I mean it's it is a very private and secure application but hey if they are on your phone and have the app in front of them obviously they can read whatever they want. At the border anything goes that and that's the problem that's the problem I have and that's why I'm not going fucking down there. Yeah and even once Trump is out all of this shit is probably still going to remain in place and it's and again it's just gonna keep getting worse because that's the way some of these governments that's the direction they're going. And I mean in some ways Canada is following behind and it's it's not any better in some ways.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Right? So I I mean I I mean my my days are of going to the United States are over probably yeah probably right like like it's it's uh certainly while Trump is uh like I well we've already said uh I've already said I'm not going down there while he's president yeah and I'm not and and again it's not only because of this stuff it's everything going on with him yeah he's a fucking knob and um you know but but this stuff isn't going away and um yeah I don't know I mean my I I could say okay well I'm going to Europe instead and and and yes I would prefer to do that but again the way some of these countries are going too it's like who knows who knows what's gonna happen and um you know if you don't unlock your phone for them obviously only two things can happen well three things number one they're going to detain your phone yep and you'll probably never get it back number two is they could detain you yeah fuck and who knows what the fuck's gonna happen then yep and or of course number three which is probably the best one is which is no fun after spending all that money to travel but they could just ask you to turn around go home imagine that hey fuck now you're done enjoying but that's that's that that's not that's not stupid talk that's very realistic.
SPEAKER_01Yeah that's the reality of the situation.
SPEAKER_02Yeah you got three options either fucking give us the information give us the phone with your password or we get you until you break or you just turn around and leave I mean they could send you home without your phone so then you're but I mean that's no good either right so yeah I you know still you know people say okay well the number of people that this is actually happening to happening to is still very small but the fact that it is happening and it is happening more is pretty scary. And will it happen to me? I mean I mean I I feel I'm taking a chance like like I really do.
SPEAKER_01We're all taking a chance.
SPEAKER_02We all are yes yeah and I don't know what I would do if I was in a position where I tried to go down there uh for a vacation and and it and like what would I do? Yeah it's tough. And that and and that's and I guess that's the biggest problem I have is because I don't know what I would do because I would be very reluctant to hand over my device and unlock it for them what would happen to me and that all of that is just like forget it. I'm not even gonna risk it. I'm not gonna do it.
SPEAKER_01You know at the end of the day we have nothing to hide but it's the it's the invasion of privacy. Yes and that's and that's what it is. It's the them flexing your weight for no reason at all. Yes just because they can yeah and like not they're not hiding anything but why do you want to check what I listen to on Apple Music? Why do you want to check like that I reposted a video about a dog licking a Santa Claus?
SPEAKER_02Like what what's about like who well and and yeah it's all that but it's this too it's like so what that I call Trump a fucking asshole like so what? Like really he's a big boy big deal he shouldn't give a he should care that some fucking Canadian who you know who who is a law abiding a Canadian at that why should he fucking care what I think of him exactly like why does it so fucking matter you know to him really yeah that's that's what this is about. Why? Why does he have to be this way like like so what? And that's and that's why you know sure they want to check social media because of uh who knows what the you know terrorists you know I think terrorists for the most part now know not to use regular social media to uh you know to talk about shit whatever they might do whatever yes you know but if somebody wants to to get into a discussion with somebody else about Donald Trump in the United States and they call him a fucking dick why should it matter to him? So what if Joe Blow is talking about me like that I'm going down there on a vacation man. I've done nothing else wrong I'm a I'm I've there's nothing there's no crimes against me I haven't been in jail um why should so why should you fucking care?
SPEAKER_01Why should you be spending all this time and money and resources uh on somebody like me so it's it just doesn't make it and have you tried scrolling down fucking five years it doesn't work have you tried scrolling down six months you're scrolling for in fucking three hours like it does not it's not easy to scroll all that shit all that way down like it's it's a it's gonna take you some work like yeah oh man it's just well I mean they can they'll they they not only search your phone they probably dump it uh and then maybe they've got the tools on their side that will pay like AI now right like I'm sure they can use ai to scan things and different applications to you know to maybe search for certain information uh that'll make it quicker but but again yeah the fact that they're that they're doing it uh yeah it's just uh it's it's ridiculous it really is we're getting hosed yep
Canucks trade captain Quinn Hughes
SPEAKER_01all right let's get you going uh major ready don't worry about it yeah I'm going uh uh there's major uh major sporting news uh the Canucks have traded their captain Quinn Hughes for three people of the three Minnesota Wild players in a first round draft pick yes the internet lost their fucking mind which is the greatest thing to see but uh oh my god watched all the team like fuck it's a rebuild year fucking all the shit so I mean I mean I'm a Canucks fan but this like I I mean what do you do you're getting three players for one Hughes was a great defensive player obviously captain of the team who's gonna wear the C next who knows um but just there's nothing you can do like it's the it's sporting like you can be as pissed off as you want was it better for the team arguably are people sad about it yes I mean whatever I don't even know if you score any goals this year I don't even know what the stats are who cares because I actually shit in the bed I think they're last place like they are the worst team in the league right now yeah woo we're number last like who who cares just let them do what they gotta do and move on for life like fuck um what do you think about this well number one uh oh no my wife just bought me a queen quinhues jersey and now he's traded uh that's the big story or the big uh the big thing I've been hearing people complain about too right they just call him a jersey or got a jersey and now he's gone right so one of the last games I went to I was drunk and I bought a quinhues jersey maybe that was two years ago yeah okay well that was two years ago and that wasn't yesterday so that's it wasn't yesterday it was the black uh the black skate jersey okay um I wanted the Linden one but didn't have any okay I'll take this one so I got this one and so yeah so I got a Hughes jersey kicking around the closet now but I also have a Longa jersey have a linen jersey and a Sidene jersey kicking around see see you're safe with those players that have retired now right and uh yeah when you when you have some young and and and you know what I might sound hard on him but I guess it's just a business's decision yeah that's it's a personal decision right that he because it sounds like he did not want to stay in Vancouver not only because the team was not playing well but like he's a he's an American you know what so I say fuck off get rid of him that's that's what I say he's a young fucking punk American kid and if he wants to play in the States then fuck off.
SPEAKER_02Let him go you know get something decent in return which they did.
SPEAKER_01They got some uh three young kids in a draft pick a number one draft pick coming up next year I think and uh you know they're at the bottom of this they're in the cellar you know it's the rebuild is on now for sure I think they've been trying to avoid the this you know the term rebuild or the rebuilding phase I think they've been trying to use oh they're rebuilding on the fly yeah uh well it's gonna be a full rebuild now for sure and uh hundred percent yeah so I don't like I don't know like I'm not I'm not gonna dump on the team I you know it's just um I don't they have had it uh pretty tough though the last couple years absolutely so you know first you have JT Miller who's a young fucking well he's not young he's uh he's in his early 30s now I think but JT Miller is a fucking crybaby he wanted out so they traded him yeah um you know now you know he's an American JT Miller's American so now Quinn Hughes is American he wants to go um I mean you're see so that's that's the thing now you know more than ever you have these players and typically they're American you have these players who don't want to play in Canada and um and they they are even more uh getting more specific than that not only do they want to play not want to play in Canada but they want to play let's say on the East Coast or in or in Quinn Hughes's case he wants to play with his two brothers it's like well okay I don't know uh sure maybe some team can swing that somehow but you know they all have their own contracts um with uh well his two brothers do play on the same team right now so uh he didn't get traded to that team and he's under contract for another another year and a half with Minnesota now yep so yes after that maybe something can happen where all three of them can get together but you know see but that's the thing like yeah yes you do have a contract yes he's a good player now that maybe he's kind of earned a I wouldn't say earn his right but he he does have maybe some poll now where as to you know what happens with his future well he's earning his stripes you're just you're just yeah well yes and and but but I guess I guess the thing is now players are now uh I wouldn't say uh too powerful like they they have too much say in what goes on I think especially somebody's he's still young you know he's he did win the Norris trophy a couple years ago that's the best defenseman in the league he he's a he is a good player he's gonna help any team that he's on but has he won anything yet has he really won anything yet no he has not and you have these players who I just yeah I don't know just uh is it the arrogance is it what is it that um makes you think that you know it's a team game uh what makes you think that you're better than anybody else really that's what it comes down to because you could be the best player in the world and still end up on a shitty team and lose right it's so and and when when that happens you're just another fucking player really in the scheme of things it's all about winning the Stanley Cup and if you don't do it well you know sure there's personal accolades that go along with it but it's all about winning and to in order to win you have to play as a team and um I don't know I I just I just you know it it it's uh it happens more often than not with these American players who uh who who think they deserve to to play in America with an American team you're making 9.5 million dollars to fucking no kidding everything's catered for you you're told what to eat you're in the best shape of your life you're fucking playing competitive sports you're fucking worshipped by people you're a fucking role model oh I don't want to play in Vancouver like all the headlines is he was told Canucks last month he wouldn't re-sign this summer like go fuck yourself yeah you know that's I hope one of your brothers knocks you out next time you're fucking on the ice you fucking bitch like shut up like like who cares just relax play the game it's a privilege for you to be there you're wearing the C like you took on the role thank you very much for your fucking service get if you don't want to be here get the fuck out like yep I hope these other guys just there you go the shit out of you when you're fucking playing next yeah but it's just brutal like sports is fucked like I it's whatever it's it's cool to watch but the politics behind I mean sports and everything it's just it's just ridiculous.
SPEAKER_02Just play the game let's go have some have some fun and win some fucking games you know at the end of the day for for us fans at least it's it's entertainment right yeah that's what it is yes it is a job for them but like you said like it's a well paying job uh they are doing something they love like like fuck suck it up man like it's just you should be like you said you should be proud to be in a league that is so difficult to for the most people to to you know to get a shot at doing. Yeah it's it's you know most people no matter how good you are some people just don't make it and um you know if you do just fucking you should you should be proud and you should be thankful and uh just fucking have fun and enjoy it and do the best you can instead of enjoy the ride don't get injured yeah it can fucking have some fun yeah that's it yeah so he could fuck off I don't care. And that's for any fucking sporting not just hockey fucking football players baseball absolutely yes I agree no I agree it's uh it it is it's the same regardless of where you play or what sport you're in oh man all right so
Music news, concerts, streaming, and more
SPEAKER_02anyway let's talk about some happy news guns and Roses released in music you listen to these songs I did I I'm you know you know yes see see the thing is these two songs came from the Chinese democracy era didn't they I you know obviously that's what I read that's what I read which came out when did that album come out um like it seems like forever ago who cares that album was but yes they re-recorded it with uh parts with uh um with duff and with um slash with slash um but they're old songs um I don't know and and and this one you're playing it's nothing great so this is the better of the two this one's called nothing uh so Chinese democracy came out november twenty third two thousand and eight uh but yeah this song like this is cool this it's good solo's ripping it's it's it's the better of the songs they've released in recent history so I don't mind this song at all I think it's alright the next one this song Alex this song's a fucking piece of shit yeah um and you're expecting more your your guns and roads you're slash you're fucking duff your axle you know at least axle sounds good in this shit well well he he does but again is are his vocals from 2008 or whatever right yeah that's true it's uh because he sounds like shit now so yeah I don't know are you going to the concert uh coming up they're playing uh BC Place when are they playing um August 29th 29th see the only good cool thing about the show is that they're playing with the black crows yeah see that's cool but anyways uh like I don't know like I I I haven't looked at tickets because they're probably not cheap and I don't if I go it would be to see the black crows and I just don't think I want to spend the money so I mean I saw the the first reunion gig that they did um I went down with Sean Byrne it was 2015 whatever the hell it was and we went down to Seattle and saw that gig yeah and that was fucking awesome um so I mean I appreciate that but they the cool thing about this show is they got a lot of weird bands playing opening for them so they got yeah the black crows who are opening the Vancouver gig they got ice cube opening they got public enemy opening they got pierced the veil opening and they got the barbarians of california also opening so those are great opening acts for depending on where you're catching them throughout the right throughout the thing but am I going particular probably not because it is a work day for me and uh they've really flexing on their time off and what we're getting off for uh um and how we book time off and stuff coming up so okay yeah it's uh it's uh it's a Saturday it's it's tough but ACDC also got announced yeah but not not in Vancouver did they is there a Vancouver oh really a Vancouver date now Thursday August 13th at BC Place again oh okay but again it's the same show that was here last year it was pretty reckless your opening so is it the exact same show is it gonna be the exact same thing I missed that show last time so maybe I'll check it out this time I mean you're still watching AC DC videos and it's funny that AC DC and um GNR playing because uh Axel had that short didn't they
SPEAKER_01A C D C when everybody was on lead vocals. Yeah. But I would rather see the ACDC gig over the uh G and R gig.
SPEAKER_02Oh, so so would I for sure. Not that I'm gonna go. See, I thought I I know that ACDC, there's a Montreal date, I think Quebec City date, and and that was obviously just the first announcement because I mean there was no Vancouver dates at that time. So I figured, well, not that I was seriously just a guy I work with, he lives in Montreal and he's got his tickets uh right away. He's a big fan. Um he uh yeah, he said, yeah, you should come down to Montreal, go to the show and stuff like that. So I didn't really entertain it seriously, but I mean yeah, it would be cool to go to Montreal just you know to go there again, because I was there probably 25 years ago or something. Um but but yeah, so I I didn't know that they were going to continue adding dates and stuff and that there was a Vancouver date now. So I guess that's cool. I don't know if I still don't know that I'd go, but I don't know.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, August 13th, uh BC Place, and the Montreal date is uh September 12th. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Okay.
SPEAKER_01So that's just as cool. Okay. Uh they got uh they got an Edmonton and a Vancouver date. So yeah. Okay. That's cool. So yeah, that might be uh that might be in the cards, I think.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Uh it's a day off for me, so I don't have to worry about that shit. And uh are tickets on sale yet? Oh yeah, yeah. Oh, they are. Yeah, they went on uh last couple I don't know, two weeks ago, I think.
SPEAKER_02Oh wow, like where the f fuck was I? I thought I checked. Even back then, there was no Vancouver date. That's why I thought they just maybe announced it then.
SPEAKER_01You're probably just busy.
SPEAKER_02You're probably just busy. Okay. Maybe.
SPEAKER_01Well, I have been for sure. Oh, 100%. Um I could pull it up here super quick. Do you have anything else lined up for the year? I know you got the rush show. Did you buy? Keith Miss is now sold out.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I know Keith Miss. Uh, yeah, well I told you I got rush tickets, but that show's not till December 15th. That's a year away to a year away tomorrow, December 15th. Yeah, yeah, crazy. I've been that's it. That's it. No other uh no other tickets at this time. So um hey, we were talking about shows last time though, and I mentioned we went to the Who. Did I mention did I mention I did mention the Who, didn't I? I'm sure I did. But the other one in there was uh Neil Young. We did end up seeing Neil Young at um at Deer Lake. Was it fucking everything you thought it would be? And I didn't think I talked about it or mentioned it. Um it was pretty good. It was it was really good. Like it would have been nice to see him with Crazy Horse, like that was the tour that was planned last year that got cancelled because somebody was sick somewhere along the way. Yeah. Um let's see. So uh so yeah, so this was a a different band, uh, and they're all great musicians, but they played he played Neil Young music across the board, like all from from the early days with with um with Crosby Stills, Nash, and Young, you know, his solo stuff, some of the stuff with Crazy Horse. Did they even have a Buffalo Springfield song in there? Oh shit. I don't know. Anyways, like he it was he played music from across all of the different decades, and uh uh so yeah, it was so it was pretty cool. Uh and it was a good show. I mean I I don't know, Deer Lake Park is the the only thing is uh about the show is that they do not have big screen setup. And um and I'm wondering, is that normal for for that place? 'Cause because I mean it's hard it's hard to see when you're at the back. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01I remember seeing um oh god, is that me? That's me. I don't know. Mute, mute everything! Um I've only seen a handful of I I saw the cure in there, we did a fox a couple Fox Fests in there, I saw Jack White, which is the fucking worst show I've ever seen. Um, and something else. But yeah, I actually don't like the venue. It's hard to get in and out of the place. It's it's very difficult. So I I mean the Neil Young show would have been fucking awesome, but yeah.
SPEAKER_02Uh it sounds like it was a good set. It was it was pretty good. But but yes, my only complaint was that they uh I mean I they have sh I mean they don't have shows there all the time, I know that. But how hard is it to you've got your stage set up ready, you know, have at least the the place wired for you know a couple screens on each side, uh or one on each side, right? So that people could see because that's that was my only complaint. It sounded great, but if you're not right up front, you can't see shit.
SPEAKER_01And that's the only kind of amphitheater kind of venue that we got, but they're building that new one by the PE. Have you seen that shit ripping around?
SPEAKER_02No, I haven't seen it recently at all. No, that's a big deal, too. That's a big deal. How many people is that gonna hold?
SPEAKER_01Like 10,000, I think. Okay, so that's gonna bring hopefully that's gonna bring a lot more shows up this way.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Because these bands can't fill quite fill Rogers Arena or whatever it is, but they can definitely fill that place. It's like a bigger, you know, like the Orpheum and Queenie are almost too small for it, but you gotta move into this place, it kind of upgrades you, so it's kind of like you know, you're just adding the extra venue, and they're putting a lot of time in the engineering and stuff and behind like what they're doing to it, because they had the preliminary uh like structure and blueprints built, but the engineers came, hey, you know, we can change it like this, but it's gonna cost you X amount of dollars. So they're actually doing it right, like the it looks cool, it's this awesome like wood sculpture, acoustically tuned, like it looks fucking cool. So hopefully they get a good opening band to open that night up and it's a good night and doesn't fuck too much shit up. Uh but it looks uh it looks I hope I hope it's it obviously replaced the form, and the form honestly isn't that bad of a space to see live music anymore. Like I saw what did I see in there recently? I saw Trivium in there uh with Bullet for my Valentine. It was a couple months ago, and I spot I saw a spirit box in there a couple months ago, and it sounded the room sounds good, like no complaints from where I was. Yeah, and I bought something else for there. Uh what's coming up? Oh, Lamagod. Lamagod are playing in Vancouver April the 1st. So I bought tickets for that.
SPEAKER_02Okay.
SPEAKER_01So maybe you should join us for that one. Uh it's a Hobson. Hobson will be joining me for that one. When is when is that again? It's a Wednesday, April the first. Yeah, okay. Put that on your calendar.
SPEAKER_02Put it on your calendar. I'll put it on the calendar. I'll let you know. Yeah. Um, but this amphitheater uh down under the PE, so it is an indoor uh indoor venue, then is that what it is? No, it's outdoors. It's outdoors. It is outdoors, yeah. Okay, so that that's what I thought. It was it was gonna be all outdoors.
SPEAKER_01But the way you were talking, I wasn't sure uh if they were it's kind of like remember the last time we're at the PE was, but it's kind of like behind the the the corkscrew or whatever the hell it's now called. Okay. Uh so it's all behind there. If you, you know, if you got if it's I was gonna say, hey, it's a nice sunny day, but we're not gonna get a sunny day until like March. So um next time you're out and about, just uh go down. It's a cool area out that way. This is cool. The PE Park has actually a pretty good walk. So uh walk down there. Hopefully, you can see some. It's all boarded up, but you can see the big ass awesome wood roof that they're building. So when's it supposed to be done? Uh they're projecting next summer. Okay. So cool. We'll see. We'll see.
SPEAKER_02All right. All right.
SPEAKER_01Uh, do you have any other shows lined up?
SPEAKER_02No, nothing, nothing lined up at all. Absolutely nothing. And um, oh, we did see Rich Hope. Uh that's that's a show we saw a couple weeks ago, too. Oh, Rich Rich Hope released uh a live album. Uh, if you don't know, Rich Hope is a local guy, uh pretty cool, play some good tunes, awesome on guitar. I've known Rich uh for a good 20 plus years in some of the bands that that he's and music that he's played. Um so yeah, he just he recorded a live album earlier this year, I think at the Anza Club. Sweet. So uh he's uh this was an album release party at a venue called down in the east side, it's just a small place. It was an old auto shop. In fact, it's called Green's Auto or Green Auto, yeah. Yeah, so it seems like a cool little place. Uh I you know what? I miss little places like that. I really do. I you know, you because you had venues like the Starfish Club or the Starfish Room, uh the Piccadilly pub, like all of these smaller places. This do the bigger this place is even smaller, really. It's it's like uh it is like uh having a show out in your back garage. Uh yeah like it's not very big at all. Um yeah, so we did see that. Uh picked up the album, of course. So uh but that was it was a pretty good show. He put on it. He always we always have a good time with him. Of course, he is playing Keith Miss coming up, but actually Keith Miss might have been last night. I'm not sure. Uh oh fuck. I think so. Not again, uh wasn't planning on going anyway, but yeah, I think Keith Miss was last night. Um yeah, so uh so that was pretty cool. I think the only disappointing thing about his his album, which I mean it sounds great, he recorded the album. Um uh the whole show. There's only nine songs on it. I guess I guess I guess I'm and maybe there's plans, but I guess I'm thinking, well, shit, you why not record a double album or or release a double album because you probably have all this material, you know, because they were trying, they were struggling with what to put on the album, right? So yeah. Uh so there's only nine songs. It's like, yeah, I'm sure you got enough stuff for a double album, why not just do it? But whatever. That's me being greedy, I guess, because it was uh yeah, so it's pretty cool. But no other shows.
SPEAKER_01Uh you mentioned Green Auto, so right across the street from Green Audio is the Blue Light Studios where our buddy Todd Hancock throws his top cast podcast sessions.
SPEAKER_02Okay.
SPEAKER_01And I was there on Friday night, and Steven and the Evens were there.
SPEAKER_02Steven and the Evens, that's funny.
SPEAKER_01So do you know who that is? No, it's so that's the uh the singer from the odds. Oh, instead of the odds, it's now Steven and the Evans. So it's him and a three-piece. It was fucking awesome. They play a bunch of odd stuff. It was uh it was actually a a really great night. I was there helping him out on Friday night. So um he's got a lot of cool shit happening. Um so next time, gotta reach out to him and head one of those shows. They're cool. He had a fucking sweet metal band there maybe three months ago. I forget what the fuck they were called.
SPEAKER_02But that's cool.
SPEAKER_01I didn't know he was still doing that. So yeah. All right, you know, fuck it. I wish we could get into something like that. There's fucking whatever episode, but such a it just brings everybody all together for a lot of night of live music, and we're fucking big concert music heads, so for sure. Sounds good. But I do want to touch on this. Um, this whole it's Christmas time, all the shit, all the rap stuff. You got the Cine Club rap, you got Spotify raped, you got stuff, but you have this great uh this great this great metal injection put it out. The Spotify rap countered by activists. I laughed and I laughed at this stuff.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, pretty uh it is pretty funny now how how everybody was looking forward to it, and some people probably still do. Oh, for the amount of times, yeah, how how a lot of people have turned against Spotify now. So uh it's just it's just pretty funny. Yeah, it's good for a chuckle.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, it's uh I thought that was great. Uh and you're now on title, right?
SPEAKER_02Yes, I use title exclusively in addition to my my own library, of course. Uh I sometimes wonder I sometimes wonder why I pay for it. Um because I don't use it all that often. Most times I'm here at home or even when I'm on the road, I'll I'll fire up Plex or or I've got uh another uh platform I'm using now or trying to use more. Uh yeah, I'll just listen to my own stuff, right? Yeah. So I don't know. I don't know. Uh we'll see.
SPEAKER_01It's it's the the convenience of having it at the tip of your finger. Yeah. And that's it. Like if you're on about for whatever night Thursday or a Friday, you didn't get a chance to listen. New music on the Fridays is always a big one for me. Seeing what's coming out there, ripping through all the shit. Uh, but did you see that Spotify added flak?
SPEAKER_02Well, they've been talking about it about it for a while, so it's finally happened then, has it? Because it took seemed to like it took a long time for them to get their shit together.
SPEAKER_01But apparently it's not great, like it's being trashed. You know, it's it's quote unquote flak, flak, but it's not really flak, which is high for those of us who don't know what flak is, it's high audio or high bit rate streaming, so you get better what is it, fidelity. Yeah, well, how do you explain to Flack too? Let's let's Google the tidy flak, dude.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, it's lossless audio, basically. Yeah, it there's no I mean I think it's got its own compression, but it's still considered lossless, you know, as opposed to an M MP3, which is lossy and it's been heavily compressed, right?
SPEAKER_01So uh Flack, yeah, you're right. You did Flack is a lossless audio compression format. Yeah, unlike formats as MP3s, which use lousy compression. Yeah. Uh, but that's okay. You had also found that great article about Alice and Chains. Pet uh Pita is asking Alice and Chains to names change their name for awareness for abused an elephant. I thought that was kind of a cool story.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I'm I'm wondering if they uh are actually gonna do it because I think it's I think it's a great idea. Like I don't know I don't know if Jerry and and and the rest of the guys, I don't know how they feel about uh animal cruelty and animal rights and all that sort of stuff, animal abuse. But I I mean I think it's uh I I don't know how it would tarnish who they are. I mean they're probably concerned about that, but I don't know how I don't know how it would harm them.
SPEAKER_01It's uh it's an easy fucking fix. You acknowledge it, you share, reshare a couple links, you make a cool shirt, and you can move on through life. So it's exactly you get you get some press from PETA. So if you don't know the story, PETA is currently trying to rescue Betty, the 56-year-old disabled elephant who is being forced to perform roughly 300 circus shows a year. To raise awareness, PETA has requested Alice and Chains to change their name on social media for a month to Betty and Chains. Yeah, like it's really easy. That's that's easy. I don't know if they changed their name on the socials because it's just gonna fuck up a lot of shit. But get some new logos printed, get some shirts made, yeah, and let's fucking go. Uh it's just like when uh Black Sabbath did the Black Lives Matter in the uh in the uh Masters of Reality format text. Like that was fucking cool. I still regret not buying one of those shirts.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I was I was gonna bring that up too. It's exactly the same. I mean, here's your one of your iconic albums, yeah. Um, and you're using the same style and font and everything for the for that title for Black Lives Matter, and and it's how is this yeah, it's not really that not that much different. So I I I I'm I'm wondering if they're do it, if they're gonna do it. Um I can't remember, does it say in the story that there is a not a petition, but say is there something here that people can kind of hop on board here to try and get the Allison chains to do it? I don't I don't think so.
SPEAKER_01I don't I just don't think uh because it's Christmas, I think like hopefully the guys are cool. Like I think they're cool enough. We've had the opportunity to see them and talk to them a couple times in their musical careers. I think I think it's gotta be on the radar, and I oh fuck at least I hope so because they're not fucking living under a rock and Al Jerry's on tour promoting that album and um they did that thing for Sabbath or so not Sabbath. Oh yeah, for Sabbath and Ozzy a little while back. So they are they're their fingers on the pulse. So I hope it's gotten to them. But the easiest thing to do is do that um that just the Alice and Change, the dog album record, right? Just put the elephant on there and fucking just go. You know what I mean? Like just let's have some fun, boys. Have some fun. That's it. That's all I ask. Will it get to him? Who knows? But uh I hope it has, and I hope they're working on something. That's yeah, I'm a big fan. We're both big fan. We've traveled last like one of the last times, I guess you were in the States, Allison Chains.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, well, for certainly for a show, anyways. Yes, uh, could have been, I mean I mean Judas Priest last year, of course, but uh but yeah, it's I don't know. That seems like it was quite a while ago already when we saw that one. Yeah, fuck. I don't even remember 20, I don't remember. 2018, maybe 2017? Something like that, yes, for sure.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, 7 17, 18. Jesus. Yeah. All right.
Picks of the week: Music, film, TV
SPEAKER_01Um, let's talk tunes. What are you listening to this week? I know I'm I gotta segue to you here because I have fucking 27 windows open. I don't know where my shit is.
SPEAKER_02So hey, I'm not uh I'm not much different from you, so but I do I do have something up here. You know, this this one I just uh I just discovered this and I listened to the album a little bit, and the whole album is really good. Uh it's a band called Mesa. I know I know very little about them. Honestly, uh this just uh this just just popped up somewhere and it's um uh I'm trying to get it going here now. Is it playing? Here we go. Uh it it's a it's a great tune. It's a heavier, I don't know, is this a doom metal type sound to it? Uh song called The Dress. It's from their new album. Uh it came out earlier this year from their new album, The Spin. Uh on Metal Blade Records, but it's it's really cool. It's uh yeah, I love this stuff. So uh you can hear it on your side, right? Oh yeah. Yeah. Just wanted to make sure everything's working okay. Uh we're rolling. So, so yeah, this is really cool. And and and you know, I I did put a kind of a short list of uh some some of my favorite albums. I wouldn't say they're top albums of uh 2025, and I know we try and do this every year, and I know. Yeah, we'll get that done next year. Okay, yeah. So this this this was up there. I really like this uh what I've listened to, the album and stuff. And of course, because I don't know really who they are, I haven't checked out any of their other stuff. So um, but yeah, it's um it uh I mean let's uh I'll just jump ahead a little bit because it kind of rocks pretty good at times.
SPEAKER_01It's yeah, no, this was uh it's a cool tune. You know, usually I'm like I I open your music like fucking nine minutes. I'm just like which is fine, which is fine, but they really it's really gotta grab you for the nine minutes, and and the song definitely grabs you for the nine minutes. It's it's was really fucking cool.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. It's funny it got some horns in there with a trumpet, but it's but it's a heavy tune, right? So yeah. Yeah. Pretty cool. Um, and actually, I mean I uh there's lots of music out there always, but uh I only have two tunes for you this year. Um or this show. Or for this year, the show, yes. Uh this is um this is uh Rick Emmett and Phil X performing performing a a classic tune from Triumph. I guess there is some award show, the Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01I I I know what's I know um that uh Todd Kearns got this um shortly after we chatted with him. Yeah, whatever the fuck that was. So yeah, if they're they got it. But this performance was fucking cool.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, it's a it's a great it's a great song, but yeah, really cool performance. Um it's too bad Rick's guitar wasn't turned up a little bit more for the recording or for the mix, but um obviously he's a great guitarist, it's a cool song. Uh this is pretty cool. Now, now Phil X is he's Canadian, but he he's the one who replaced Richie Sambora for um Bon Jovi, is that correct?
SPEAKER_01Oh fuck, I don't know. Well, because I know like when the like when the 80s when they were touring non-stop, right?
SPEAKER_02Uh no, this was this was uh well this he's he's been Bon Jovi's guitarist for a number of years now. Like Richie Stambora left in like what 2014? Like like 10 years ago anyway, right? Yeah, 2016, yeah, you're exactly right. So I think Phil X uh yeah brought them in and he keep getting great into into the into the band. And um so that's where I know Phil X from, but I think he's done some other stuff too. Like, wasn't he doing some solo stuff before that? Or I I can't remember, but did he play Mega Def? Like Phil plays a mega dev. Yeah, exactly. Did he? Are you serious? Did he? No, he didn't play Mega Def.
SPEAKER_01He did try up his one that I really kind of came on the radar was for uh Tommy Lee's project methods of mayhem. Remember that?
SPEAKER_02Okay, yes, yes it is, yeah.
SPEAKER_01Because there were some riff and solos in that. I'm like, who the fuck is this guy? Yeah, let's go out. But yeah, yeah, right. He joined uh um you played with the Bora in 2016.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. Not so not that Bon Jovi's touring anymore, because I think his voice is fucked, but uh No, he's back!
SPEAKER_01Joby's back, baby. Got a tint at uh Madison Square Garden. And um like full band. Full band and everything. Okay. Um and there was something else. I remember a friend of mine, um big Joby fan, big big Joby fan. He's got a shit ton of dates coming up. Oh well. Okay. Um of course I can't log into it. Posted on Instagram. Shit. I don't people use websites anymore, man. Um but yeah, he's got uh he's got a stint of dates coming up.
SPEAKER_02I think um I think Triumph has officially um gotten together here too. I think there's an official 2026 reunion tour coming up.
SPEAKER_01Oh, okay.
SPEAKER_02Uh with with all three of the same guys, right? So um I don't know what the story is and when or where where they're going to play. And oh let's see. Uh we have some dates here real quick. Uh um yes, starting in April, they're starting here in Canada. It's their 50th anniversary tour.
SPEAKER_01Awesome.
SPEAKER_02So I see I do not see a Vancouver date, which is kind of odd because they're playing all across Canada. Starting in Ontario, they go out to the Atlantic, then all the way back to Ebonton and Calgary. No Vancouver, they're down to the States after that. That's kind of odd. Anyways, uh I I was a big Triumph fan way back in the late 70s. In fact, I think Triumph was one of my, if not the very first show that I saw.
SPEAKER_01Oh fuck.
SPEAKER_02This would have been like 1979 or yeah. See, that's how fucking old I am. Um I saw them, I saw them a few times way back then, and and I think that that was probably Triumph was probably my first show ever. Oh shit. So yeah, big fan. Wow, fuck. My first show ever was Kiss. Yeah, well that's a uh well, I think I've I think you've told that before, and I think I've said this before. I wanted to see KISS. This would have been 1976, 77, uh, maybe 78. Um I can't remember. They were touring with Cheap Trick. Cheap Trick was opening for KISS. I wanted to go so bad, and uh my parents wouldn't let me. Sons of bitches. Yeah, because well, it because it's it's in Cal it's in Calgary, right? I'm living out in Canmore. Uh who's gonna drive me? How am I gonna get there? Uh they they aren't gonna go to the show with me, obviously, and uh there's nobody else to go with, so and I was too young. So at least in their minds, I was too young. We're too young for the stuff, we're too young, yeah. But uh yeah, because that would have been cool.
SPEAKER_01Kiss and cheat trick. Definitely check out the video and Steve and uh post that on our webpage at theoldman.ca.
SPEAKER_02Holy shit, I remember the old man.ca, that's right. Tough tough getting used to that, I think.
SPEAKER_01Oh, it's it's not bad. That's I remember we were throwing some stuff around, but that actually just sticks. It feels it feels good off the tongue.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, it does.
SPEAKER_01Um for those of us who care about what John Bon Jovi were doing, they're doing a bunch of dates at Madison Square Garden from July 7th to the 26th. Then they go to the UK for four dates and that's it. Uh two in Dublin and two at Wembley Stadium in London.
SPEAKER_02Oh, cool. Yeah, those are those will be some big shows if you care about Bon Jovi, of course. Yes. Did you ever see him? I saw Bon Jovi. It would have been the mid-90s, and uh it was probably one of the worst shows I've seen in my life. Oh fuck.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_02It was I I I I I I I can't forget that. It was I did not enjoy myself, and and it I think it was because of that they sounded like shit. Yeah, yeah. Like I don't know, you know, he he's had problems with his voice for many years. I don't know if he had problems way back then. So the 90s, like the mid-90s, so that's would have been how long ago is that? That's 30 years ago, right? Yeah. Um you know, I don't know if he had experienced trouble back then or not, but for whatever reason, uh it just sounded like shit. And I think I went because some of the guys I was working with at the time, they had had some tickets, or I don't know. I I decided to go anyways, and uh kind of wondering what I did. So that's the only time I've seen Bon Jovi.
SPEAKER_01I saw him uh fuck it would have been 2008 at Rogers Arena. They released a new album or some shit. Yeah, and they're like, We're gonna do something we've never done before. They played the album from front to back. Oh, yeah. I was like, what the fuck is this? And uh and then after they did the encore, then they did all the hits. Yeah, you know, they did uh you know, You Give Love a Bad Name, Runaway, Bad Medicine, Dead or Alive, Have a Nice Day, Living On a Prayer, all this stuff. They just went bang, bang, bang, bang, bang. It just kind of punches you in the face. These are like seven fucking power things. But I remember they covered a Bruce Springsteen song somewhere in there. Oh, yeah. Um, and I thought that was fucking cool, but anyways, uh enough Jovi Talk. Uh, what am I spinning this week? I am rocking some local stuff, band called In Our Name. Um, I don't know if you remember the local band Quartered. Um, but this is the lead singer from Quartered. His name's Gregory. Maybe I'll send you the link. He is actually, unfortunately, facing cancer. Oh no. Uh, spinal cancer. So no one really knew what was going on, but he's been silently dealing with this uh for a little while. So there was a GoFundMe set up, and everyone's like, What are you doing? No one's heard from him in a couple years, and he's been um silently fighting this battle. So obviously recording some new music during that time when he's feeling better, but yeah, he was uh fighting spinal cancer. But uh then he's like, What are you doing for music? And he goes, Well, this is the new stuff, and here's the taste of the new music. Um Did you get a chance to listen to these tunes? Did you enjoy this up your alley?
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I didn't I didn't mind them. I didn't know I've never heard this of them before, so I didn't even know that they were local or anything like that. So yeah, sounds okay.
SPEAKER_01Cool stuff. Yeah. Um, so yeah, uh Inner Name, Everlasting Glaze, or Everlasting Glaze is the song. Yep. Cool stuff, cool stuff. Right on. Uh found some blues music. I do love me some blues. Uh this is Jonathan Boogie Long. Uh album came out uh November 14th. Uh fucking great stuff. Sounds like whatever, uh Gary Clark Jr., government mule, that kind of stuff. But fuck love this shit. Fucking guys, it's a big he kind of looks like uh younger Chris Stapleton. Okay. But uh it looks like he's playing all the instruments, doing his thing, but cool little blues song. What'd you think of this?
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I don't mind uh uh I love the blues too, right? I mean that's where it all came from, or at least uh the music we listened to the most of it was heavily influenced by you know a lot of the old blues, and uh I I love the name. Jonathan Boogie Blum. Yeah. Yeah, so that's no, that's a cool, cool tune.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, add this on the playlist. The album I I have the album acquired. I haven't actually listened to it yet.
SPEAKER_02Okay.
SPEAKER_01But right on, I'll check it out. Should be good. And uh Canadian Boys Figure 11 released a new album, I think about almost a month ago now. This isn't one of the tracks off it. I think it's like track 10, but yeah, I given this album, you know, we're trying to come in. I was actually, you know, had the list in the back of my mind what albums made the best albums of the year, and this is gonna be on my list for sure. New Figure 11. They released that song a little while back with the lead singer from Filter. Uh Jonathan Patrick? Patrick Jonathan? What the fuck's Patrick? Um Flint Patrick? Patrick Flint.
SPEAKER_02Fucking something Patrick.
SPEAKER_01Patrick, Patrick, Patrick.
SPEAKER_02His last name is Patrick. His last name is Patrick. Um why can't I remember?
SPEAKER_01Oh fuck. Patrick, Patrick, Richard Patrick, Richard Patrick. There you go. Um they're doing so uh they just came through town with um Tea Party and Headstones.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, that's what I thought. They were touring or had been here recently, or were going to be here coming up or something. Yeah, okay.
SPEAKER_01And then they just uh announced a tour with uh a world tour with uh Three Days Grace.
SPEAKER_02Okay, cool.
SPEAKER_01Uh so that'll be good for these boys. Uh get a little more recognition. But uh yeah, great good stuff from uh local Canadian boys. And they did a bunch of C Fox stuff with us in the past. Did you uh are you a fan and did you like the song?
SPEAKER_02I didn't mind the song. I I I I'm not I've never listened to them much, to be honest with you. So and and it not for any reason. It's not like I don't like them or anything. I just don't know that I really gave them a gave them a chance. So but yeah, it was a decent it's a decent track.
SPEAKER_01So yeah, uh quintessential rock is greatest of blue skies by Finger Eleven. Fuck it. I was I listened to the album 10 billion times. Like that's that's quintessential music for me growing up. Something wrong, so that's that. Uh you uh you watched anything interesting this week? So I want a couple weeks.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I want to point out you've been watching, trying to watch quite a bit. I want to point out a couple things. As you know, you know, we've got the new TV. Uh I don't think you know that I ended up purchasing some surrounds for my sound bar.
SPEAKER_01Did I I think we talked about the lists, uh, but I didn't know you got them. So how does that sound like that's right?
SPEAKER_02It was on the on the list because we were talking about it for Black Friday. So that's that was a Black Friday purchase, yes. Um yeah, yeah, it's it's it sounds it sounds amazing. And and some of the movies that I watched, um, so there's been some TV and stuff like that, but a couple movies, so not only for audio, but all but just the overall um HDR experience with with Dolby uh Atmos uh sound, some of the stuff that I've been watching it includes uh Queen Walks Queen Rocks Montreal or Queen Rock Montreal. All five so that that was a performance by Queen 1981, I believe. They're kind of at their highlight of their career. Um, they played Montreal. This footage has been out there for a long time in various formats, but they um I think they did a 4K restoration with Dolby Vision that that was released last year. Um I would have to say, and and obviously I've watched a lot of concert videos, a concert footage. There's lots of movies out there, still some I want to see. I would have to say, so far, this performance in this format is one of the best shows I've ever watched. Oh fuck. The the visual and audio is just so amazing. Watching it in HDR with incredible sound. It's a great performance as it is, but to watch it in 4K HDR with Adolby Vision is just uh just oh, it's just amazing. Yeah, yeah, it's really cool. So that I wanted to point out the last waltz. I also watched recently. Of course, it's about uh 1977, Martin Scorsese film about I guess I think it was their last show by the band, right? When they uh so they do sit around and talk about different things, um, but the show itself is great because they bring in all these guests and and stuff during the performance, and it would have been really cool to see that show actually way back, way back in 19 whenever whenever it was recorded. Um, but that looks good and it sounds great. Again, HDR and Dolby Atmos. Two two great a hundred percent two great concert films. Um two regular movies again, these are not new. One is called Sespiria, it's an old Italian horror film from 1977. It recently had a 4K restoration um upgrade. But the colors in that show just uh just amazing. Just the the reds and the blues and the yellows and greens. If uh it it's a it's a it's a classic horror flick. Um so so check that out if you haven't seen it, whether it's in 4K or not, uh it's a great movie. But yeah, to see it uh to see the restoration was was awesome. And this movie is it has to be seen in the 4K restoration. This was just released uh like a month ago or something like that, a couple months ago. The descent. Did you ever see the movie The Descent? Is that the one with the the they're in the cave? They go down the cave and yeah, yeah, yeah. So it's it it's you know, sure if you've got a better quality or if you're watching it from Blu-ray or something like that, it it probably looks a lot much better, it looks decent, but because it's in a cave, like it's like it's dark, like so. The whole yeah, so that's the thing. This 4K restoration just brings everything to life. The blacks are very black, there's no banding or anything like that, but the but the color and and whatever lighting there is, it just pops from the black. It just there are things that I saw watching the the the 4K restoration that I never saw before because it's so black, because it's because it's so black, and uh that is that is a it's a classic horror film um from 2005, and you have to watch it if you're a fan of horror, if you like that movie, you have to watch it. You have to watch the 4K restoration. Yeah, I should have rewatched that. It's amazing. Yeah, so um a bunch of other things. I watched Warfare. I think you said you saw Warfare in the theater. Yeah, it was cool. It's a pretty good film. It's pretty it's pretty brutal. It's a pretty brutal film, and it's I could never imagine doing that going through that. Oh fuck, I would lose there's there's just no way.
SPEAKER_01You know, I I do kick ass at Call of Duty, but I don't think I could ever be a fucking soldier man like that stuff is fucking though.
SPEAKER_02Pretty, pretty brutal for sure. Um a bunch of TV shows, some of them I've mentioned before. I will mention Slow Horses, Gary Oldman. Uh I think season five maybe just finished. Is that right? Or it's coming up, anyways. We've we're on season two now. It's a cool British um a British uh spy film. Yeah, I guess you could could call it a spy, not film, but TV series. Uh, it's pretty cool. And Stranger Things. Did you watch Stranger Things?
SPEAKER_01I am up to date on Stranger Things. Okay, we could talk about it. What do you think? Oh man, I thought it was that the twist at the end of episode four was fucking cool. Yeah. Uh, you know, it really I mean, like, I don't know if we talk about it or we wait till oh no, no. It's it's spoiled spoilers heads pull his hand. So Will looks like he has the power of Vecna. Yeah. Um, so is he like this? Was he I don't know, is uh like what what direction do you go? Do you play Will us off as like a mutant and was able to absorb powers, or is he just was he just so tapped into Vecna that re-altered his DNA? Like how were they going to put that in the storyline? Was it kind of a one and done thing? Is he 11 sister or brother? Sorry, like what's what's the next what's the theory? What's your theory on it?
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I don't know that I've got a theory. It is it is I will I didn't expect that. Yeah, I really I really didn't. And you know what? I'll be honest with you. I mean, it was entertaining, it was good. Um, I enjoyed it overall. Kind of dragged a little bit, like second episode, third episode. I'm thinking, well, I'm really glad this series is finishing up because yeah, I'm getting tired of it, right? Well, yeah. And then and then episode four, and it was like, holy fuck, punches you in the teeth.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, they're but you know, like are they they're really kind of wrapping shit up too. Like you can see they're kind of ending storylines, and each like episode's like an hour. These new episodes are like an hour and 15. The final episode's like two hours and seven minutes or something like that, released on New Year's Eve. So, like, they are doing a bunch of work for it, yeah. But um, it's you know, like when you're watching Stranger Things and Will's getting the visions and he's seeing through people's eyes and stuff. I like when I was watching it with my dad, I'm like, well, he's being a he's a conductor, like he's somehow being able to tap in. So maybe he's being able to tap into Vecna's powers or something like that. But like, what's the story behind that? Are they gonna explain that? Are they gonna rewrite some of the stuff? Like, it's just who knows what the fuck's gonna happen, but yeah, big uh big, big fan of that.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, for sure. So yeah, they released four episodes on I forget what dates and stuff like that, all in the same day. So the next there's there's four more. I think three of them are Christmas Day, yep, and then the finale is New Year's Eve, right? So uh so yeah, that's what we'll be watching over the holidays.
SPEAKER_01I think I'll probably try to get some of that stuff done.
SPEAKER_02Um, I know you're a big sorry, and by the way, 4K with Dolby Atmos is awesome. That show is great.
SPEAKER_01Oh fuck, Netflix is ripping like yeah, it it was almost like it was made. And did the um uh the new Netflix logo they use to like do the upside down stuff, yeah, crank that just turn all the way up when you're watching it. It's through all your speakers. It's right away cool.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, right away. That was amazing.
SPEAKER_01Um, I did rewatch some of the old stuff because we started talking about sound when you started upgrading your sounds, so I went through and kind of watched some of the stuff, the old man. Uh rewatched the Matrix. Yes, I did that.
SPEAKER_02Not with the I watched it before I connected the surrounds, so I'll maybe need to watch it again with the surrounds because um I just had the sound bar at that time.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, so just watch the bullet scene. Yeah, so when they are when they break in to save Morpheus, rewatch that. Yeah, um, we watch both Blade Runners, so the original with Harrison Ford, and then the 2049, the opening scene in 2049, yeah, fucking just shakes your building. It's it's awesome, it looks great. And then um, everyone always talks about gravity. Yeah, um, I rewatch gravity, the cool kind of uh like the space effects and stuff, the ship blowing up is cool, but also the new Star Trek movies, the ones with Chris Pine and Zachary Quinto, yeah. Um watch the very first one because of all the ship exploding, especially when that ship when uh Chris Hemsworth is Kirk's dad when he blowed like rams the ship. Yeah, uh that rips, and the 4K rip of that looks fucking cool. So okay, cool.
SPEAKER_02Because that one that one is not like I've been searching for stuff like uh and of course it's just people's opinions, but yeah, you know what are what are the best 4K uh HDR or Dolby Dolby Vision movies with uh with Atmos to watch. And yeah, and I have some of those you mentioned, like the Blade Runner stuff and Matrix and and whatever, of course, Mad Max. I rewatched that and just amazing. That's awesome. Um but yeah, Star Trek was not on that any of those lists, actually. So that's good to and I'm a big Star Trek fan, especially of the old Kirk stuff, whether it's way back, you know, the 60s in the series or the or those movies with Chris Spine. Yeah, good stuff.
SPEAKER_01And you're also a Star Wars fan, so The Force Awakens actually kicks ass.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, okay.
SPEAKER_01Uh, because the Star Wars and the bright colors and JJ Abrium just doing his thing, and yeah, so definitely rewatch that one. And I don't know if you're a Disney guy at all, but any of the Pixar stuff kicks ass.
SPEAKER_02Okay.
SPEAKER_01Um, Toy Story 3, especially. Um, the there's a full scene with like the drop claw and the lava pit and all this shit. Fucking awesome. So yeah, definitely check that stuff out.
SPEAKER_02Right on.
SPEAKER_01Um, I also know you're a big, big, big fan. Taylor Swift released her uh her Eras tour documentary, all shot in Vancouver. So it was a okay. That final show is uh shot at BC Place. So um, you know, uh watch a song. Uh and it but it's all mixed, it's all mixed in Atmos. Yeah. So like you you hear it all, the colors pop because it's just she's just she's she can afford it. She's using the best gear, recording gear and stuff available. So skip forward, watch a song, and call it a day. Okay. Um but yeah, you're getting it. Yeah, but it's just cool to see the um like the effects shot in her hometown. Fuck they're kind of cool.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Uh the Queen played here almost a year ago, so um that was it. That was it. Okay.
Happy Holidays!
SPEAKER_01Um well, I guess this is our last show before Christmas. Well, until after Christmas in the new year. Uh you got any plans? Are you ripping up to see mom or no?
SPEAKER_02No, no plans. We're sticking around at home. I'll have almost a couple weeks off, but we don't have any plans. We talked about doing something, you know, and we, you know, it's uh even if it's going to Whistler for a couple days, going to Tefino for a couple days, everything's so expensive. Yeah. Uh I looked at flights to go back home to visit my mom over Christmas for the two of us. Like $1,300. It's a fucking one-way flight, and uh to cost that much money for a return flight for the two of us, just not worth it, man. So we're just we're just staying home. I recommend Squamish. Squamish, yeah.
SPEAKER_01Yep, rip up the squamish, they got a cool couple restaurants in there.
SPEAKER_02So um, yeah, so that's the thing. We we'll we'll we'll take some drives and stuff like that, right? So that might be. I haven't been to Squamish in a long time. You know, it's probably been I can't say when it's been a long time. It's probably it could be like close to 20 years since I've been to Squamish.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, go to Squamosh to use their good, cool restaurants. Yeah, I know you're no longer on the sauce, but there's uh a couple good breweries up there, backcountry's up there. Yeah, uh, they got this full new adventure trail that kind of opened. You can do rain or shine. Yeah, uh, you can rip up and see the falls, Shandon Falls up there. Um, yeah, it's a great day trip. The salmon hotel up there is rad. They got the Crash Hotel, which is super cool. Uh stay up there for a night, grab a pastry and a coffee, and rip back. Yeah. Yeah, it's uh that's a that's a good trip. But we've been doing that. The girl and I like that trip a lot. So uh we spend a day up there and have some fun and rip back the next day. It's uh it feels like you're ripping far enough away and you're just surrounded by mountains and shit. Yeah, yeah. And it's it's you know, it's an hour away from here, so it's not it's not too bad.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, definitely.
SPEAKER_01Uh so the that is my recommendation to you.
SPEAKER_02That could be that might be the top of the list. It sounds like it's a good idea. Because yeah, typically we we like go south, we go to uh uh not Tuasson, but we go to Stevesden. You know, often we've been out uh east, all you know, all the way to Harrison and stuff like that. But yeah, I think we should go the other way.
SPEAKER_01See what happened. And it's only an hour from even closer to you because you're already halfway there.
SPEAKER_02Well, that's that's what I mean. It's probably closer to Squamish than it is to go out to Harrison, right?
SPEAKER_01100%, yeah. Yeah, so rip through it. Uh well, I'm gonna say Merry Christmas to you because that's how we do. I don't say happy holidays. Happy festivist.
SPEAKER_02Happy festivist, yes, yes, uh Merry Christmas. Have a good one.
