Licking your freezer clean might be more productive than this, but at least they both love heavy metal. Here are the old men, Adam and Steven. Yes, welcome out to it. This is the old man who yellow clouds podcast when we get together to talk about the things that matter to us. We are episode number 156. As we recorded, it is well, it's already September. It's September 1st, 2025. It is approximately 11 a.m. and we are podcasting live for the Vancouver, British Columbia.
SPEAKER_00Uh yes, hello. Um welcome. We uh honor and acknowledge that the uh we join you today from the traditional ancestral and unceded territory of the Musqueam, Squamish, and Sleewood-tooth nations. Man, we're rusty. Anyways, as we get into it. I know.
SPEAKER_02It's getting worse in time. I don't know.
SPEAKER_00Throw in the age and then throw in the amount of you know, we're our infrequency of meeting and and chatting here.
SPEAKER_02I don't even know where I'm not even wearing any pants. But before we get into everything that mattered to us, my name is Adam, and I'd like to introduce my bearded co-host. Hello, Steven. Hi, Adam. Although you can't see the beard, it's glorious, it's marvelous. It looks nice and groomed today. It looked it's looking pretty good.
SPEAKER_00I thank you. Thank you. I haven't done anything with it, but uh I didn't even comb it this morning.
SPEAKER_02So I'm glad you woke up like this. It was it was great.
SPEAKER_00I woke up just looking looking amazing like I guess I always do.
SPEAKER_02Uh before we get into uh everything that's happened last couple months, you can support our podcast by hitting our website, oldmanhooyellclubs.com, and subscribing to our podcast. And if you want to help us out and be extra cool, please buy us a coffee. I still have a coffee addiction. It's very, very bad. It's just, I don't know. And it's a mocha addiction. I don't know. Fuck. I just it's just just flushing money down the toilet, as everybody says. But uh what's happening, man?
SPEAKER_00Just pissing it out like the booze, I guess, that uh well that you still frequent uh.
SPEAKER_02Oh man.
SPEAKER_00So um I don't know if I can talk about this, but uh yeah.
SPEAKER_02So sometimes after work, sometimes after work, I'll get together with some of the guys at work and uh we'll have we'll tailgate, we'll have a little bit of a party. Yesterday I had two 7.5 beers. Fucking just just fucked it. Like it was just like, woo! I gotta go, guys. And then uh yeah, but I slept like the fucking dead. It was great. Oh man, like yeah, sometimes you just need a little nightcap, just a little nightcap. It just uh true.
SPEAKER_00There's nothing wrong with that. Uh make sure you get home safe. Don't drink 100%, 100%. That's stuff, of course. Yeah. But uh, but hey, I guess there's nothing wrong with unwinding after after a day or evening or night on the job.
SPEAKER_02Man, I got white boy loser pissed. Uh when was this? Uh White Boy Loser Pissed. Um so uh it was like August 9th, because I was trying to I was trying to do the brewery row here in Port Moody with the boys for like like not almost a year. It just didn't work out. So this was the day we did it, and I was fresh off an injury, which I'll talk about shortly. But I'm like, I can't bail that, I gotta go get drunk with the boys. So we started at the brewery, uh brewery row in Port Moody, and there's like seven or eight breweries on that place. So the the rule is you have a flight and then you have a pint, and you do that all the way up. So by the time we were done, we're about 16 beers deep. And then we did um like whatever the best one. We kind of went back and had another one. And then we made our way to the Coquitlam keg and had uh had a nice steak dinner, and then we walked back to the skytrain station where my buddy Kurt got off two stops after, and me and my buddy Ron continued going to Low Heat to switch over to get to the Expo line to rip back to Scott Road. Uh on the so Kurt drops off, I pass on the train. I get up, I set my alarm because I know exactly how long it takes. It wakes me up, I get off, I swap trains, I set my alarm again. I wake up at 22nd to catch the Uber, Uber comes, I pass out an Uber, right? I get back up, my buddy Ron takes off, I go upstairs, I'm talking with the new girlfriend, which I gotta talk about later.
SPEAKER_01Whoa, whoa, whoa.
SPEAKER_02Okay, we'll get back to that. We'll get back to that. And so I get back up and uh I'm in my room and I'm I'm texting with her and I pass out my room. I wake up like five hours later, all the lights are fucking on, I got music playing. I'm just like, cool, no, still alive. So I go and uh go take a piss. I uh chug a bunch of water, take two towns, and I slept like the dead. It was fantastic.
SPEAKER_00You've got that system down pretty good, uh, you know, setting your alarms and taking that route and you know making sure that you don't miss your stops and everything like that.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_00You've got that down pretty good. I I guess it's from experience, isn't it?
SPEAKER_02Well, it's just from uh just like being on the line so much. I just know okay, I'm starting at Royal Oak. I can it's seven tops to waterfront. I can that's three minutes of stop. Seven times three is twenty-one, twenty-one minutes out.
SPEAKER_00We went to uh we went to Port Moody yesterday, actually. We took a drive out that way. It was a nice day. We had a couple, oh, we had uh vet appointments, uh, and then after that we decided to go for a cruise. So yeah, we went to Port Moody. And uh and yeah, I mean there's there's I didn't know that there were seven breweries along along that stretch, but obviously there's like for sure four of them kind of right in a row there. And yeah, I forget I forget the names of them.
SPEAKER_02One of them was Yellow Dog, um, Rewind, there's Moody, there's Parks, not Parks, right? Uh The Brave.
SPEAKER_00Uh I don't know. There's a bunch of them. There's a bunch of them, but but yeah, holy shit. Yeah, it's easy. It's easy to take a stroll. A two-block stroll could probably take you four or five hours, probably, if you stop at every one, I imagine.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, it took yeah, so it's uh you give yourself about 45 minutes. 45 minutes to an hour per brewery. So each one, yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, well, there you go. That's uh that's a day for sure. And then, like you said, you you're hammered after. Oh, yeah. It's a good time. You've got to find your way home and well, whatever. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Well, that's the power of the Uber. Because I like even in the taxi days, it would take forever. Um but Uber You hit two buttons, it picks you up. You know, um, who are you? I'm me. Who are you? I am you. No, I am you. But uh, that's a rush hour reference if you didn't understand. Remember Rush Hour? What a great movie! Uh, but uh yeah, it's it's so great with the app. You just hit the button and you're gone.
SPEAKER_00And you don't have to fight with cash or anything like that, right? It's just um, yeah, that's uh especially when you're loaded, fumbling with your credit card or cash or whatever it is. I mean, sure, you still have to use your phone and stuff, but uh but yeah, it it's everything's too convenient nowadays. That's it's kind of scary. Um, it's it's helpful, but it's scary. It's true.
SPEAKER_02It's so true. Okay, well, I nonchalantly bust over that, so I have a girlfriend now. Um so I was I thought that I met her. Uh shit, it was I think it was like it was, I think it was face Facebook dating, which was uh, you know, honestly the best one out of all of them. Um we met for uh a couple beers uh downtown one day. I was like, hey, it was one day I'm like, let's wait up. She's like, okay. I was like, holy fuck, this chick is already cool.
SPEAKER_00Um wants to see me.
SPEAKER_02Actually see me. I've won, yes, and she's good looking. Holy shit. Um but yeah, I've always and she's tears me because now we have a new fan, so we have one more listener to add to our list. Um so you know, I'm I'm I'm promoting the brand. But uh yeah, she's like, oh, I'm sorry I'm not a goth girl. I'm like, no, you're better than a goth girl. You you're full of color, you're a girly girl, and that's almost better. So yeah, so it's uh yeah, it's going well. I've seen four months, May, June, July, August, but September. I guess it's four months. So uh yeah, it's good. She's way smarter than I am, she's hotter than I am. So yeah, it just uh it just works out. So it's nice to have a good counterpart to bounce my stupid ideas off. So good. Yeah, and that's uh you know, the you know, you're you're in a long, awesome, committed relationship, so you know what it's like, but uh it's nice to have that balance. It's not one of the boys, it's uh with a nice softer touch. So and she's better looking than all the boys, so that's what counts. But yeah, it's gets it's going good. Excellent. Good to hear. Um keep it going. I will do so. I will do so. So should we talk about Ozzy? Because our last our last conversation was we're we were talking about how Jasmine were about that final performance and and all that stuff, and then uh two weeks later he uh unfortunately passed away.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, that's uh that's right. I I forgot that it had been and has been that long since we chatted. Yeah, we talked about a at length about back to the beginning, and um yeah, yeah, it was about two weeks or three weeks later, I think, that uh Ozzy passed. So it was really i I mean, it sure is fitting, I guess, that they squeezed that this last concert or this last performance in there, that's for sure. And and he went out with a bang. Yeah, he really did. It was it was uh I mean you know, obviously his health hasn't been great at all for over the last few months, never mind the past few years, I suppose. Yeah. Um, but yeah, I was still I was still surprised. I was still shocked when I heard. Um I I mean, I mean, hey, it's it it happens to everybody, and whether somebody's sick or not, it's um still kind of sad to see people go.
SPEAKER_02So do you think he knew it was coming? Because you're now um if you watch back that performance and you take a look at like how he was doing and what he was doing and how he was saying, like he was just like you know he was thankful to be there and stuff, but you really watch it now that he's he's passed, and it's just kind of like holy shit, like did he actually know it was coming? Because you you always see these reports and uh rumors and whatever it was, but you know, the one of the ones that I read consistently was he stopped taking his pills, he stopped because it was affecting his voice. So he stopped well, then stop, but he like really he stopped a few of them and he like cut back the dosage on a lot of them because it gave him back his voice, so he was able to actually sing a lot. Yeah, because did you ever did you see that um the rock and roll hall of fame performance when he was just on stage and he just yelled all aboard for Crazy Train, but he didn't really sing, and he had like Maynard sing for him and Billy Idol sing for him, and uh Jelly Roll sing. Did you see that thing?
SPEAKER_00No, I didn't see that. I I think you maybe I I know you talk, we talked about it and stuff like that, but I don't know that I ever really watched that, yeah, which is kind of shitty. But I mean, I guess I should.
SPEAKER_02Uh after he passed, they re-released it, like the full recording of it, so it's on it's all over YouTube. So take a look at it. But uh he looked in rough shape there. Like he looked he looked like he was in the chair at the end of the beginning of uh the performance he did, and it looked good. But the chair that he did at the Rockwell Hall of Fame, he almost looked fatter. Like, I don't I don't know, I think it was the meds or or whatever it was, but you know, from that performance there to the final performance, it was almost night and day difference, and clearly it was because he was able to sing, so it was uh it was fantastic. So if I had to ask you right now, what was the best time you've ever seen Aussie? Do you know the best time you've ever seen Aussie? Whether solo and or with Black Sabbath or both, even um, wow, that's really hard.
SPEAKER_00That's really hard to say. I mean, obviously the last time was amazing because we've talked about that so much and what a great experience it was, and just how we got to go. I mean, it was a great performance, but it was just cool that we kind of got to go backstage and we were shuffled back there after like cattle and stuff, and got a quick shot with the band and then shuffled away again. Yeah. Um, so great experience. Um I I saw I've seen Ozzy live, his solo stuff live. I I I mean, I I mean I may have talked about this too. It's one time uh this is Rob Zombie opened for Ozzy. I don't know what the year was. I had a photo pass, so I was in the pit. Um Ozzie came on and and of course, so I was there for three songs, and and I don't know the name of the song. At one point he pulls out a fire hose and he starts spraying foam everywhere. And here we are, here we are caught in the photo pit. Of course, and everybody in the front row got soaked too. But I you know, there's a lot of uh photographers there with some very expensive equipment, yeah. And I think some of that probably got wet, and I don't know if it got damaged, and I don't know what happened after that, uh whether or not they filed some claims or or not if there was damage. But I I remember I was I I I don't know how I got caught there somehow though, so I was not able to scramble to get out of the way.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_00And I and I remember turning my back, and Ozzy just blasted me. He he just blasted me from whatever six feet away or eight feet away or whatever it was. I turned my back, I had my arms in front of me, you know, kind of protecting trying to protect my camera, and he just soaked the fuck out of me. And um and then and then I took some pictures of the pit pit after, and there's foam everywhere, and like it was it was yeah. I I I I'll always remember that. I mean it's yeah, for me, it didn't I mean it didn't damage my camera and I didn't have an expensive camera like maybe some of the other people, uh professional photographers did, but um but uh it was just it was just kind of cool. Ozzy doing his fucking crazy stupid shit on stage, right? Yeah. Uh so that was really cool too. So I mean, as far as the concerts go, those two things come to mind for sure. Um yeah, it was just so good, so cool to kind of one of my favorite bands, uh Black Sabbath, of course, but certainly a lot of the Aussie stuff. I've been listening to so much so much Aussie lately too. And and and some of it, especially the later stuff, I just don't know that I appreciated it enough. Um some of the later stuff, there was a middle section there where things were kind of average, and then a couple good albums, and then then I forgot about it again, I guess. But yeah, there's there's a lot of good stuff there, and it's lots of great music. It sucks he's gone, but at least we've got the music to keep go keep going. So yeah. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, shit. Uh yeah, I get and you're right. We'll always go back to that time when we went and uh got to go backstage and get that photo with Ozzy uh Geezer and uh Mr. Iomi there. Um but uh you gotta post those. If you can find those photos, you gotta post those photos of that.
SPEAKER_00Uh I I I do have some shots for sure again of uh of Ozzie, and then I have some after shots of the of the pit area and that front of the crowd, I think, and um the foam everywhere and stuff. So uh I definitely definitely have some of that stuff uh somewhere for sure.
SPEAKER_02And was it a uh was it a Vancouver show or you in Calgary for that?
SPEAKER_00No, that was Vancouver show, for sure.
SPEAKER_02I wonder I don't I'm trying to rack my head. I don't remember what show that was.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I'm pretty sure Rob Zombie opened and then it was uh and then it was Aussie. I can't remember the year.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, sure.
SPEAKER_00I'm pretty sure that's uh I'm pretty sure that's that's what it was. So you know, a couple good bands there uh in a row. Uh it was pretty cool.
SPEAKER_02It was the uh the the good old internet says it was the Mary Mayhem tour. Yeah, what year? Uh 2001, but there's no Vancouver date on that.
SPEAKER_00No, that's and maybe I'm messed up with the opening band. Maybe it wasn't zombie that opened. I mean, although although I thought I was, but um uh okay, so when did Zo when did Ozzy come through on his own after that? It would have been it was the chorus days, right? Yeah. So it would have been uh like 2007 to the 2000, probably 2010, 2012, and that first part of my life at the bat at the Black Tower. I don't know. Who knows? I don't even remember anymore. Okay, I'll I gotta check I'll check the photos.
SPEAKER_02Take take a look. Um but I think for me, the very first time I saw Black Sabbath was Ozfest '99. It was one of my very first shows, too. Yeah. And uh, you know, like dad always was spinning Sabbath and the on like record and stuff, so I was pretty familiar with it. And I just remember they opened with Warpegs, and that just fucking blew my mind. Yeah. Um, and then obviously that last performance of Sabbath that we saw was really, really good. Um and then my best my favorite solo Aussie. I've only seen him here in Vancouver, I didn't travel for him, but he always had Zach. And um there was a uh my favorite one was well sh I guess I mean they're they're always so good because he always had the best players. But one of my favorite ones was with Newstead. He uh had they Trujillo just joined uh Metallica, and Newstead flopped over and played with Ozzy for a little while, and that was awesome because that was at Rogers Arena, and I think Finger 11 and Tea Party opened up for that one, but yeah, yeah, that was uh that was a fucking cool performance. Um but yeah, I know there's like I mean, we were blessed with the chorus days because there I saw like four or five shows when he came through. Uh solo, that is. Uh but yeah, I just I mean he and the greatest part about all that is that he would play those like mock videos before he came on, like those weird infomercial ones, like when he was dressed up like Madame Cleo, and he was doing all these spoofs of like the simple life and all that stuff. Do you remember that? Yeah, yeah, those are I mean that and that just shows how much of a goof he was, and just he liked to have a good time and stuff. And I think that shit is almost better than the show itself. Like it was fucking funny. But yeah, that was uh his diet sucks that he we never got to well ended up with that awesome Black Sabbath performance, and he did perform that one last time. So I mean, we can't be much more uh you can't get better than that.
SPEAKER_00No, for sure. I'm looking at my photos. It wasn't Rob Zombie who opened. I don't even know who opened it, but this the show was November 14th, 2010. Oh, okay. Yeah, yeah. So I'm looking at some photos here. Uh and the pit is uh just fucking yeah, it's it's pretty crazy. Uh even even the bouncers up front in the pit, they're all fucking soaked and they have foam all over the place and everything. It's uh it's pretty funny.
SPEAKER_02It was on the scream tour. Okay um I I don't remember that. I don't remember him doing that. But you got so in the pit, you got Bark at the Moon, Let Me Hear You Scream, and Mr. Mr. Crowley. So you got fucking so it would have been Mr.
SPEAKER_00Crowley at the end because it was uh it was the third song. I'm looking at the photos, and yeah, after that we were we were we were out. Yeah, so uh so that was pretty cool. Um favorite favorite song, Black Sabbath, or or I I'm looking, I actually took I I took some photos of the of the back room after um of the other photographers and who are trying to dry off and go through their equipment and I feel for them if anything was damaged. Yeah, fuck they're fucking they're fucking soaked. Oh fuck. Oh yeah. I can just imagine what I looked like too because again, I was I was caught in there and I got I just got I I I I couldn't run. I just turned and let them let them get me with that hose.
SPEAKER_02Uh can you get mad at that? Were they pissed? Like I got like what was do you remember? Can you have any idea?
SPEAKER_00I mean it was fucking I think I think they were um I think they were wondering, well, couldn't they have some have have had some warning or like why did he did he really know it's Aussie, right? So who knows what's going through his head sometimes. It's it's you know I don't know like you know, again, though that's thousands of dollars of equipment that could potentially be damaged there, and and some of them are freelance, so it's money out of their pocket, right? It's not like they're all of them are employers of some some place and they will you know their employer will reimburse them if it's uh damaged equipment or something. So if if it's uh money out of their pocket, and then would they go after live nation for damages or something like that? I you know, I don't know. So I don't know how it works. So, anyways. As a fan, it was pretty damn funny.
SPEAKER_02It was pretty funny. Like, fuck it. I mean, I would I mean you'd be you'd be kind of pissed off. Like, what the fuck? But you would just be laughing afterwards.
SPEAKER_00I mean, I don't know. Yeah, yeah. Uh Warpigs is definitely one of my favorite Black Sabbath songs. Um And you know, I I just I talked about it last time that first Aussie solo album is uh Blizzard of Oz. It's just yeah front to back. It's got it's it's every single song is great. Um it'd be pretty hard to pick my favorite song from that album because there's so many.
SPEAKER_02Um fuck. I would uh I really liked uh well I mean the three Aussie songs that really stick out for me Diary of a Madman, Believer, and uh No More Tears.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_02I mean it's all solid songs. But uh yeah, I mean you got Crazy Train, you got Mr. Crowley, you got Shot in the Dark, you got fucking Flying High Again, you got I Don't Wanna Change the World, uh Mama I'm Coming Home, obviously. And uh, you know what? I remember every time he I don't know if it was that tour or whatever it was, but I know Dio just passed, and when he played Mama Coming Home, he dedicated it to Dio. And like I remember I remember that because I remember there was that the beef in the press or whatever it is, but just a cool guy, and for him to dedicate it to Dio was fucking cool.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, yeah, yeah, for sure. Yeah, that's um that was I mean that was a cool experience too. Yeah, seeing seeing Dio with Black Sabbath, of course they were known as Heaven and Hell for that tour, which I thought was kind of kind of strange, but whatever. Um because because Dio passed away about a year after that, or less than a year after that, too, I think so. Um so yeah, I got to see Sabbath with two of the biggest uh because they went through some other vocalists, of course. So they were the two biggest uh or most popular uh I guess vocalists for the band. So yeah, yeah, that was cool.
SPEAKER_02Uh he will be missed. Alright, let's uh let's let's let's let's let's keep it going here. Um okay, so I have seen a fuck ton of concerts since we last chatted.
SPEAKER_00No kidding. I was looking through your photos and the list here, and holy shit. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Um so my very first day off, I was off Wednesday, October 6th, and that was our first day off. I made to Seattle. Oh, sorry, August 6th. August 6th. Yeah, there we go. Sorry. Not awake yet. So uh Wednesday, August 6th, and I went down to Seattle the Thursday, August 7th, and I saw Lady Gaga. Fantastic fucking show. She puts on the show, there's fire, there's dancing, there's guitar solos, there's breakdowns, uh, people having a good time. Uh, but on my way back to the hotel, I was on one of those lime scooters, and somehow I bailed. Fucking bailed. I was just dumb. Just fucking, I just biffed it. I was fucked. Alright, shouldn't laugh, but no, but I mean, like, I don't know what happened. Like, I'm really good on the scooters too. Like, apparently not that good, but I was really because I I've skied, I've snowboarded, like, I I'm I'm good on those things. Yeah. So I I fucking biffed it. We get up, I'm fucked. I get up, my watch is hissing, so my watch is all fucking cracked. Um, my I I'm cut my hands are cut, my leg is cut, I fucking can't walk. And so I'm like, oh god, I'm still about 10 minutes away from the hotel. So I uh got back on the screen and went back to the hotel, and I was with uh uh Mike Given, and uh he had a roadside assistance thing in his car, so he went and got the like the alcohol wipes and shit. And so I take a shower, whatever it is, and because I I broke my foot, and fuck you, you know, we've been doing this podcast long enough that that my foot breakage was not six years ago, and I still talked about that. So we've been doing we put us we've put some time on this, but anyways, um yeah, so like I knew it wasn't broken because I could put weight on it, I just couldn't walk. So um, so anyways, uh it's like it's now like one o'clock in the morning in Seattle. I did have travel insurance, so if it was really fucked, I could have gone to the hospital to whatever it was, but I knew it wasn't broken and I could put weight on it. So either it's a bad sprain or it tore some ligaments or something. So, anyways, so he goes to sleep. I'm still on my phone now because my watch is still hissing in the background, it's cracked, it's fucked. So I'm like, well, I need a watch because I have the weirdest watch tan of all time and whatever it is. And the way I fell is I did a breakfall. So I like fell, but I did a breakfall, so I transferred my weight over my arm. So I like road rash up my arm. Like I was, I was I was a fucking mess. But uh, so I'm Googling, like try I was gonna go buy a watch because I need to watch. So I Googled like the Apple store in Canada, whatever it was, and to get the new Apple Watch, it was like $659. Well, hey, I'm in the States, I can buy a new watch here. So I just look up target.com and it was $429 US, but they had $100 off just for random back to school sale or something, I guess. So it was $329. So even with the conversion to get back to $4 Canadian dollars, it was like $452. So the next day I went, got a new Apple Watch, set it all up, I was good to go. Because I use my watch a lot. Are you still using your watch for fitness and sleeping and all that shit, or is it just kind of gone the wayside?
SPEAKER_00Yep, yep, no, no, I still wear it all the time, and I I have a bit of a well, not as exciting of a story uh as yours, but yes, I I yeah, we can uh get into that.
SPEAKER_02We'll circle back, we'll circle back. I'll I'll make a note, I'll make a note. Uh, but so anyway, I'm all fucked up, and so but I'm like, I can't I can't walk. I I can hobble, but I I can't walk. So I was I was really limping along, whatever it is. But surprisingly, drinking some beers made it feel better. So I was able to get a little more little more emotion to it and uh and whatever. And um so then I st the next that so that day was I saw Shine Down and Bush in Seattle, and that they fucking blow shit up. Like Shine Down. I saw Shine Down like 15, 20 years ago at the Commodore, one of the worst shows I've ever seen in my life. Because it was like he kept talking and he was preaching, and I was like, I don't want to fucking want to hear this, I want to hear the hits and go home. Like he played like maybe six songs because that was three hours of talking. It was fucking but he only preached once this time, and it was actually a pretty solid message, but they just blew shit up. It was fucking cool. But I was in the pit for that, so I can my injury was I was able to stand, but I wasn't able to like walk. It really, really hurt when I walked. So, anyways, so that's that's the Thursday and the Friday. I was back Friday night, and then that and then Friday into Saturday, that Saturday I I got drunk with the boys. That I don't know if that helped my injury or not. But uh so then the Sunday I had a day off too. No, that's Sun, what was the Sunday? I think did I do anything on that Sunday? I don't remember anymore.
SPEAKER_01Uh Sunday would have been nine-inch days.
SPEAKER_02Oh yes, oh yeah, so it did nails that day. Oh god, yeah. So yeah, so uh I'm not I'm not doing my foot an injury any favors, but while I was in Seattle, I called the physio place because uh uh but I say I need to make an appointment, I got a lot of shit to do. I'm going to Winnipeg, I got a bunch of shit to do. And so she's okay, we booked you in for uh Monday, come and talk to the lady. I'm like, no problem. So yeah, we did nails. Did you end up making it to Nine Inch Nails?
SPEAKER_00No, I didn't. Oh kind of kicking my ass over that. That's okay.
SPEAKER_02They'll be back.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, um, looked like a pretty good show. Oh fuck.
SPEAKER_02Uh, but honestly, like it was great, but it wasn't as good as uh the 2013's Tension Tour. Did you see that?
SPEAKER_00Uh yes, that I did see. Yeah. So it was pretty cool. Yes.
SPEAKER_02So that you're almost better because the visuals were cooler for that. It was a cooler, weirder, live or band because he was still touring a lot, and the band was cooler and they had different kind of mixes and shit. Uh, so both great in their own mind, but that 2013 almost sticks out as a little better. But obviously, seeing uh nails this round was still pretty cool. But, anyways, so uh back to the injury. So I call uh I go for physio, and the lady's like, Well, it might be broken. I'm like, Lady, it's not fucking broken. Give me some zap zap and let me go on my way. Like, she goes, Well, you have to go get an x-ray. I'm like, fuck. She's like, well, go to urgent care or go do some shit. I'm like, I don't like, I don't want to sit in urgent care for six hours. I wanna go to emergency for ten hours because I I I'm weight bearing, I'm good to go. So my regular family doctor is in Vancouver, uh, and she's fucked, she's on holiday, she's booked solid till fucking end of April or end of uh October, which is bullshit, but um no sorry, end of September. So because I did it first of uh like the first week of August. So, but I see another guy here up just close to where I live, and he actually had an opening. So I finished the thing, I went and talked to him, and like the physio wants me to do an x-ray. He's like, You're walking, you don't need an x-ray. I'm like, I know, that's what I said. He's like, You got a grade one ligament damage. He's like, walk it off. I'm like, fuck. So, anyways, I went and got an x-ray, and uh then I went and saw my chiropractor on Wednesday, and she works miracles. I was super swollen. It was like it was almost double the size, but she like she's the the chiropractor that like does bone manipulation, so she'll find whatever it hurts, she'll make you like resist, she'll put a pressure point, she'll make you resist something, and she's like she'll work on that part, and she found what was fucked in my foot and she adjusted it, and the swelling went down almost 75% after that first adjustment. Like it was awesome, and like I could feel my leg heat up and all the fucking blood start moving around. It was super cool, but uh yeah, she works miracles. So, yeah, after that, I was able to like walk better and everything was all good. Like, so I'm I'm on the man, I'm a little fucked up, but um the worst part for me is like I get jarring pains, so like the movement of your ankle when you like up and down the stairs really fucking hurts, and like weird stuff, like when you bend your foot to put shoes on, that fucking because you're sitting cross-legged, you put leg over the other one, so you're doing the four, and you try to put your shoe on, that fucking hurts. But uh I'm walking, I'm not on crutches, didn't bang my head, so for the majority of it, I'm I I was okay for it.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_02But uh, yeah, that sucks. You know, if this happened like 20 years ago, I would have been able to walk it off, no problem. But now, you know, as we're getting older, everything fucking hurts, and it's it's it's brutal.
SPEAKER_00Yes, it takes it, it's uh it's the silliest things, I think, sometimes that we hurt ourselves or how we hurt ourselves, and then it takes longer to heal. So um, yeah, it just sucks.
SPEAKER_02Um so kind of talking about two things there, but after the Nine Snails in Vancouver, the next night I went and saw Taj Mahal, Blues Legend at the Vogue. That was really fun. He's really, really he's an older guy, but he's so fucking funny. Um great banter on stage. The next night I drove my ass to Seattle to see Nine Snails again, but I had pit floor tickets and I stood right next to the B stage. So we'll post the photos on oldmanhealclouds.com. But I got some awesome photos. I was right next to Trent as he was playing piano. It was fucking cool. Um then saw the fabulous Creed. Uh not bad. I didn't know they had that many fans. They sold out Rogers Arena, they're selling out dates all over the world, but they blew shit up. Um it was it was cool. But uh Big Rack opened for him and Mammoth opened for him. Oh, that's right.
SPEAKER_00I forgot Wolfie was there.
SPEAKER_02And go see Wolfie. He's fucking he just shreds. He has a new album coming out, uh, I think in October. So that'll be fucking cool. Uh and then I saw ZZ Top. And uh those guys are getting old, but they still rock. And it was at the casino again. So remember we went to the casino to go see Judas Priest and we walked in during the encore. Yes, yes, I'll never forget that. For fuck's sakes. Uh, but um we uh so I'm like, okay, we gotta go there. It's just 8.30. The show's gonna start at 8.30. So we were actually there at 8:30. They ended at 9.45. Like it was like they played an hour 15, took to the T and fucking walked off stage, and that was it. And so I started a chant home by 10. Home by 10. And then I got the crowd going at uh the fabulous hard rock there, so that was fun. Um and then I hopped my ass on a plane because of the 10 minutes dead's at top. Everybody in town went saw the deft tones. So I missed a deft tone show here in Vancouver, but uh I hopped on a plane and saw them in Winnipeg. So I gotta go to Winnipeg. I got to visit with Dale and Christine, and Winnipeg is a special place. Um it's actually one of my favorite cities. Like I like it better than Edmonton. I'm on the fence if it was better than Calgary or not, but uh Winnipeg's a cool place. Dale and Christine have the they're in the fucking amazing part of town. Um so yeah, that was that was great. Walking distance to everything. We got nice and liquored up in Winnipeg. Um and then uh on the way back, I flew in on a Thursday, and on that Thursday night I went and saw another blues guy, Kingfish, and that was fucking awesome. I've seen Kingfish now three times. He was just at the Commodore, and it was relatively cheap to see that gig. So flew in, went to uh took the train downtown, went to the girls, dropped my shit off, and then went and saw Kingfish that night. So yeah, that was uh a whirlwind of shows in fucking about like 20 days. I did nine shows in 20 days. Wow.
SPEAKER_00It's a crazy that's like the Sea Fox days. I know. I mentioned last time I haven't seen nine shows since COVID open things up again after COVID. Uh it's crazy. And you hear you saw nine shows in what three weeks? Yeah. Something like that. Good live music. It fills the soul. Well, I'm living through you. You can tell me all about it. I'm I know I'm missing out on some good ones here, but fuck, I don't know.
SPEAKER_02Do you have anything? Do you have tickets to anything at all? Did you get Viagra Boys?
SPEAKER_00Yeah, we have no, we have Neil Young next weekend, next or this weekend, actually, it's this Saturday. We've got Neil Young out at Deer Lake, and that's it. That's all I've got tickets for. I don't have tickets for Viagra Boys. Um Matt, oh not well, Matt Pike is coming. So High and Fire is coming in a couple weeks to the Pearl. I really I'd really like to go see that. Um couple other things are are probably you know look to look okay. Earthless is playing uh the Pearl in October. Um I've got you know a kind of a little list going here, but uh I don't know if I'll make it to any of those yeah, fuck. We'll see. We'll see. I'm thinking I always think about it, and then I always I then I never go, and then sometimes I kick my ass after for not going like like nine-inch nails. That was one that I ticket prices came down. I probably should have gone. I I could have gone for probably 250 bucks. Um which is still which is still a lot of money now for concerts, I think. Yeah, it is it's kind of becoming for any show now at the larger venues, it's kind of the norm now, it seems. And that's that's just I don't know. That's a lot of cash. I've been spending too much money lately, so I've been spending my money on some other things.
SPEAKER_02Okay, let's talk about that because you've upgraded your uh TV entertainment center, correct?
SPEAKER_00Yes, so I did talk about the the TV last time, I believe. Yes, I'm sure uh it's uh because I've had that now for probably shit. I don't know. When did we talk last? We talked in July sometime, didn't we?
SPEAKER_02Yeah, it was so it was just a couple it was two weeks after the beginning of the end performance.
SPEAKER_00Right. So I think I had I just bought my TV at that time. I think I talked about um Top Gun Maverick watching that. Yeah. We talked about maybe some other shows that or movies and stuff that I should be checking out. So, anyways, so after that, I picked up an NVIDIA shield. I picked up the new one. Well, it's not new anymore. Uh like I had the 2017 model of the NVIDIA shields TV box. Yep. Um 2017. You know what? I mean, it was still it it still works great. There's there's nothing wrong with it. Uh I actually ended up giving it to my mom. Sweet. Um but the new model, which again is the 2019 model, so it's like it's like what six years old. The 2019 model is the newest one, but it's six years old. The thing is, it's probably still the best TV box on the market right now. Yeah. It still gets it still gets regular updates. Uh it has um I mean it's so powerful. It's still too power so powerful. Even though it's six years old, it's probably more powerful than anything else that's still out or anything new coming out right now. Yeah. I mean, a lot of people go crazy over the Apple TV, and if that's your part of that tech ecosystem, then uh you know that it probably works for you. But the the shield is still probably the best on the market. It really is. Nothing seems to nothing compares to it right now, really. Um nothing certainly outdoes it. If you want to think something compares to it, then fine, but nothing really outperforms it. No, not one bit.
SPEAKER_02Like it's so awesome.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, it's it's it's great. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Uh I got questions for you. So are are you streaming from your shield to your your TV with Plex? And is it fucking up any 4K content? Like, does it buffer or do anything when you're streaming the content?
SPEAKER_00Absolutely not. It's awesome. I've been I've been stream so so one of the reasons why I wanted to upgrade, obviously, with the new TV, it's got HDR, it's got um Dolby Vision. Yes. The new TV. So those are okay. If I you're getting a new TV, you might as well take advantage of this this the those technologies and and watch your content in the best. Best way possible, yeah. You know, the best, yeah, the best possible. So um yeah, the the shield um uh plays directly to the TV, um, through Plax, through Jellyfin, through any other app, although I haven't tested all of them, but certainly through those two, it's there's no transcoding. So it's it's direct play. It plays direct. There's there's no transcoding of any content whatsoever. And uh well, I mean, sure, it's across my network, but yeah, but you know, so but the but the box itself has the capability to to play that content without any problems without transcoding, right? So uh so I yeah, so now I am so when it comes to video now, I'm getting the best possible quality um for for for watching TV. Yeah. So um, but anyways, so obviously new TV, new cable or new Android box, yeah. The shield runs off Android, it's an Android TV device now. Well, I guess it always has been. Um and then just the other day I picked up a new Sonos soundbar. Yes, that thing looks fucking sweet. Yes, that thing is is is pretty crazy. So before I had the Sonos beam, the first generation, and a couple of uh a pair of surround speakers. They were the second generation play one speakers from Sonos. Okay. So it's it simulates a 5-1, well not a 5-1 because there's no sub, but it simulates a 5-0 um sound system, I guess. Yeah. And you know what? I mean, it sounded pretty good. You know, again, there's there's nothing wrong with what I had, but it doesn't it doesn't play, it didn't play any of the more advanced um sound or audio technology, I guess, that should that that is out there now. Yeah. Um so this this um it's the Sonos. I picked up the Sonos Arc Ultra. I think it's only been out on the market now for uh well, I don't know how long. It's it's it's fairly new. It's uh they call it a oh, it's not even in front of me, but it's a the ultimate immersive set. Yeah, and it's got like a 914 sound system. I mean, again, it's just a sound bar, right? Yeah, so it's it's uh I've got the page open here, and it's uh well shit, where is it now? I mean it's anyway, anyways, anyways. It it the thing is it's it's got Dolby Atmos. Yes, it does it does not play DTS, but then that the TV I've got does not is not DTS compatible either. DT DTS I don't think is as popular as I thought it was. I think um I think a lot of the you know the 4K movies and stuff like that do have some of them have DTS. Isn't is DTS proprietary? I don't know. See because the thing is though all of the Adobe tech whether it's Adolby Vision or Dolby Atmos, obviously it's proprietary. Uh obviously there's extra licensing involved, but it seems but it's but it's it's um anyways, it's got Dolby Atmos. Yeah, so that's why. Got it. The TV has Dolby Atmos. The NVIDIA Shield plays Dolby Atmos content. So fuck it. Well, the next thing for me to spend money on is audio. So that's why, even though the old Sono system that I had was still working, I went and picked up picked up the uh the arc ultra. Um, so no more surround speakers. So those old play ones do not uh are not compatible with the arc ultra, and nor did would they be compatible with the Atmos Toby, anyways, right? But just to play, I played the introduction of um F1. We we didn't watch the whole movie, but I played the introduction about 15 minutes. Um and it just sounds fucking amazing. Oh, I can only imagine. It's just a sound bar, you know, so there's no sub, there's no surround or rear speakers or anything like that. But that just that just that sound bar just kicks ass. And it's and it's not cheap. Um, but but holy fuck, it seems it it it is really it it completes the system, right? It really does. Yeah. I mean, I don't think we're in a small place. I don't think I'll need a sub because again, it's it sounds so good as is. I don't think I'll need surround speakers. Again, it's a small living room that we're in here, but holy shit. It for what it is, it just sounds so amazing. Um, what it does here, I finally found it. Yeah, it's uh Dolby Dolby Atmos takes immersion to a whole new dimension, creating a 914 spatial audio experience. And it's got a bunch of other fucking things and stuff like that too. But it's got a if you look at the component and and how it's built, it's got a a like uh the the base in it is just um within the soundbar is just it sounds like it's a new technology, and that's what kind of completes this sound bar, and it just sounds great. Anyway, I could go on, but it sounds amazing.
SPEAKER_02Uh so you sorry, you did you get a sub for that or no? It's subless. No, no, so so there's no sub for it.
SPEAKER_00Got it. Well, I did not buy the sub, is yeah, is what I'm saying. Yeah, because again, it's a small, it's we we're in a small place. Um, probably wouldn't really be able to take advantage of the sub even if I got it. So that's true. But without the sub, the bass, uh, it's just still sounds amazing. There's it's just sounds so good in our in our little tiny space. So um, so yeah, like I said before, I don't think I'll be going to any movies anytime soon. I don't need to go out anymore. I got my music, I got my I got my TV and audio system. Fuck, I'm I don't need to get dressed, I don't need to go anywhere. You are good to go to work once in a while, but I guess I gotta go to the store once in a while. Fuck shit like that, right?
SPEAKER_02I mean, there's always delivery, you can get shit delivered.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, that's true. So, anyways, I've been spending a shit ton of money. And and I and going back to your watch, I ended up buying the new Samsung uh Galaxy Watch 8 Classic. Cool. So I I have a new watch. So my watch six uh is two years old, and there's nothing wrong with that either. I gotta stop fucking spending the money like it's uh going out of style here because there's nothing wrong with some of the stuff that I'm replacing. Oh, that's a nice looking watch. Yeah, I shouldn't say it. The the the the the battery I think was kind of not the the greatest on the watch six anymore. Two years old. Um the watch eight just came out um with a trade-in. I I got a trade-in. Uh they gave me $300 uh for my watch six towards the purchase of the watch eight, and so I saved a little bit of money there. Yeah, that's uh I wouldn't have done it if I hadn't gotten a bit of a trade-in. And Samsung is pretty good that way. They give you some decent, they have some decent trade-in watches or uh or options when you when they first release their new lineup, right? So I mean I I I they're probably smart that way. They're getting people to purchase the latest and greatest things that they come out with, um, you know, whether it be phones or uh accessories and stuff like watches or or whatever. So uh so yeah, so I went and splurged and got that just a couple weeks ago as well. So uh, you know, it's there's a couple of extra features. Yes. Um it's not completely all that different. Um, but it's uh but uh yeah, like you said, it's a nice looking watch. This one will be good for me for another couple years as well, hopefully. And uh and I think I'm all good for for spending money now. I shouldn't be playing stupid fuck. I've gone through a shit ton the last little while, I guess. That's why I'm working. Yeah, you work, right?
SPEAKER_02So we gotta have some fucking fun. And if you're not going outside, you might as well upgrade the shit that's in your house and wear both and um you know, I I can't say enough good things about wearing a watch and a smartwatch and all the shit that it does, because I sleep track religiously, like it I love it, I like to see how I'm doing and whatever it was. And I went from uh series and Apple Watch six to a 10. And like so it's it was four years old, like you know, the battery was shot, it wasn't lasting the day. But now like the new watch, like it it charges from zero to eighty percent in 20 minutes.
SPEAKER_00Oh yeah, I think mine's fast.
SPEAKER_02It's just you're just like, holy shit, that's what take like three hours for it to get fully charged. Now this charges in it's almost record time, so like that alone is worth the upgrade. Yeah. I originally wanted to buy the Apple Watch or Apple Watch Ultra 3 that theoretically is being announced in September, but uh I needed it now. And like and they do, like you're right, when the new product comes out, uh Samsung Apple will always trade in. You can get a decent amount of cash for like last year's generation to upgrade because they want you to spend more money, obviously. Uh, but uh I was thinking about doing that, but I don't know, because I'm just I'm happy with this watch and it's uh it suits me well, and I don't think I need to upgrade, but you never know, because I told myself that that was gonna be my big tech purchase this year. I was gonna buy the new Apple Watch Ultra. So I'll see what the uh because the application event September 9th or something like that. So we'll see what they announce. Yeah. Um, I forgot. Are you using a are you using a flip phone for your uh phone, or do you just have this regular Ultra 23 or whatever it's called?
SPEAKER_00Yeah, yeah. We still have the 23 Ultra. It's a couple years old now. Uh those flip phones do look really nice. It sounds like the technology has really improved. Yeah, and um, yeah, apparently, yeah, apparently they they're they're pretty decent. Maybe that's what we'll purchase next time. But we went into these uh when we purchased these, we bought them outright from Samsung, direct from Samsung. Perfect. Uh so we did pay a fair bit of money, but so we went in, I went in at least hoping to get about four years out of them. Yeah. So we'll we'll see. We're two plus years in. Um, and the phone is still great. I think the battery is just as good as as it was uh when we bought them. Um the technology hasn't improved that much. Uh because I don't think it does. I don't think the technology has improved improves as much as it did in the past. Like year to year, technology grew and changed so much previously. Yeah. But I don't think you see that anymore, especially with uh smartphones at least. Um sure they say the processor's faster, maybe there's a little bit more memory, but really do people notice that? I don't know, I don't think so. Yeah, um, the cameras might improve a little bit, but shit. I I just think for for what we've got right now, it's keeping us going. And uh as you mentioned before, you know, we kind of rely on some of our devices. Yeah, certainly the smartphone is the biggest one. Uh, but there's nothing wrong with this, even though it's two plus years old.
SPEAKER_02So yeah, and you're right, like you like you'll notice an improvement every three years, and that's usually when I upgrade my phone, it's like every three years. And it dies before I'm like my last phone, the battery was lasting fucking 15 minutes, like it was fucked. And I even took it in and the watch, like it said it was fine. So I got I think I got like five or six hundred dollars for my old phone. Uh, and just traded right at Apple, bought the new one out, right? And I was in and out. But uh yeah, you don't like you're it does you're right, it it does like the processor moves up a generation, and you know, the camera tech moves up a generation and stuff, but it all comes down to like the software, and you know, if how are they doing the software, whatever is it? I don't know, fuck Android is what jellyfin or whatever the hell what's it on now? Who knows? Uh do you what version of Android?
SPEAKER_00It's on it's on Android uh 14. Oh shit. I don't even know that there's names for them anymore. Yeah, because they used to have uh ice cream sandwich. I mean that goes way the fuck back, right? There was a jelly. They were they went from they went through the alphabet and it was a it was a certain food, I think, um that started with that letter. That's what that's what they how they did things. Um yeah, I even forget some of them. Ice ice cream sandwich seems to ring a bell. Gingerbread was one of them for G. That goes that's going way back a few generations. Um Oreo was Oreo one, maybe I don't know. Can't remember. Uh yes, we're on uh Android version 15 now. Yeah, fuck. 15. And then of course, being a Samsung phone, they put their own skin over top of that. So um, so there's kind of a version of the their skin, uh, which is version 7 at this point. I think there's 7.1s coming out soon for this phone. Um, yeah, you're right. I mean, a lot of it, a lot of it has to do with the operating system as well and whatever improvements they've got. But I noticed our phone went from Android version 14 to Android version 15 now, just a couple months ago, I think.
SPEAKER_02Interesting.
SPEAKER_00And you know what? Not a big difference. I think they introduced a lot of the AI stuff. Um uh because new phones came out, of course, at that time. I think it was the S25 that came out earlier this spring or something like that. So, yeah, definitely more AI AI stuff baked into the operating system, which I don't really take advantage of, anyways. Um I don't know. I'm still reluctant to jump on board with all this AI stuff. I really am. I I just don't know what to think about it. Um some of it can be helpful, but it it scares me. It's uh I I just don't know the tracking and the data collection and um and the errors. It's not perfect either, right? It's it's there's it there's errors with it. Um so yeah, I don't I don't know what to think. Whether it's phones or the or the smart homes or you know, even stuff at work, you know. I notice a I notice a you know, Microsoft, especially we're a Microsoft environment at work, and so Microsoft uses Copilot as their AI platform. Uh I have messed around with it a little bit. Um but yeah, it's uh it's just it's it's scary. I'm I I'm just reluctant to use it for now. I and I don't know that if that'll change really just because from a security standpoint, I and privacy standpoint. I just don't know that I want to go down that road.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I agree with you. You don't know where the shit's going, you don't know what server it's being on. I mean, you always see these uh horror stories of it, and there's this uh scattered spider security group now that are attacking uh transit authorities uh right now. So that's uh that's a very uh scary and real thing because they're using AI to once they get into the system, AI just rips through everything. But you know, speaking of AI, like ChatGPT 5.0 just came out, and with that happening, it took away uh well not took away, but like just people are adapting it, and it's your people are losing jobs over it because it can it can do everything. Like you, I don't know if you saw it in tech news, I don't whenever it was, but um like Microsoft just laid off like 15,000 people, like companies are laying off people that are the masses because you know chat GPT is just you write you write one line of code and it pretty much does the rest. Is it perfect? No, but can you go through it and fix it after it's done? Yeah, you can. So it's saving a lot of time and and energy. So a lot of the places now are implementing a no AI rule. So you can't use AI in your workplace because what's it doing? How's it doing it for you, or what's it doing? Um, but yeah, it's it's gonna be very interesting to see what happens with it in the next like three months or six months or twelve months. Like, how's it gonna change? What's it gonna do? What's the government gonna do for implications? Whether it hack what nerds like us, privacy nerds and all the stuff gonna do for it to uh you know, just to uh make it more secure. Is it can it be more secure? Like, no one really knows where the shit's going. Copilot, whatever the meta AI, uh, chat GPT. Well, there's some other ones. I don't fucking know. I mean, I I've fucked with it a little bit, but uh I haven't done uh I haven't played with around much. There's another one called uh Perplexity that I have downloaded and haven't screwed around with yet. But uh yeah, it's gonna be very uh it's gonna be very interesting to see what happens.
SPEAKER_00It's like like I've been I've been thinking about even learning a little bit in order to uh let's like let's say the smart home. Like I'm I'm running home assistant. I have you know, I've set up home assistants probably at least a couple years ago, and I haven't really tinkered with it a lot, but you know, you can use it does integrate with all of the typical voice assistants like like Google Assistant, like Alexa, and that sort of thing. So you can you can use your voice assistant again to turn on your lights or or whatever to run routines or or certain things using your smart devices at home. Yep. Um, but but but they actually have now integrated in home in home assistants their own voice um platform, I guess. I I know very little about it, I don't know how it works, but on top of that, you can actually download and install some of these um these um LLMs, language learning models as part of your you you can basically make it private, you can build your internal uh AI system, I guess, so it's not touching the outside world or anything. To do simple things like your home assistant, like turning on the lights and stuff like that, you you do not need a very um complex uh system or or hardware. You do not need a very powerful uh setup. Yeah, I guess um but if you want to start replicating what home what what the AI does, like co-pilot or chat GPT or or whatever, like you need a very powerful setup. You need you need a lot, you need tons of memory, you need a good video card, but you also now need a what are they called a an N GPU or something like that. There's these special processors now that are installed in computers that are basically for AI. Yeah. So it's so it's a dedicated processor for um for for for this for this type of work. So anyways, in order to you need tons of hard drive space, like in order to run a system now, uh a powerful AI system internally without touching the outside world, so you don't have to worry about any privacy or security problems, you need a very powerful machine. And um, and again, with things changing so quickly, you know, your system could end up being outdated in a year. Yeah, 100% comes to this AI stuff, right? Normally a system, no problem, but when you're talking AI, the way it's growing and changing so quickly, so fast, um, yeah, you're you're your the machine you need is it can be outdated very very quickly. Yeah. So, anyways, uh anyways, it it's uh it you know it it's interesting enough to mess around with at home here, I suppose, but when it comes to my day-to-day stuff where I'm talking using AI for uh and it's and it's uh another external cloud-based service, um, yeah, I'm very reluctant to use it uh at all with my personal data and stuff. I I just it's it's it's really scary. It's um you know, there's lots of there's lots of things that people probably don't think about when it comes to AI. And again, a lot of people just don't seem to care, but I I just I um and I don't and I don't get it because I don't think they uh fully understand what's happening with their with their personal information. And um you know they should care. They should care a lot.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, something bad's gonna fucking happen, and I just don't know what it is gonna be yet because it's just so I don't want to say freelance, but it's so uh like unscripted. No, that's not the word. It's it's uh it's so open, uh, but like who knows where it's going. Like I don't I don't fucking know. I have no idea.
SPEAKER_00But yeah, it's just plus plus yeah, I don't know. Plus they're plus they are you know it it learns from humans, right? Yeah, and they are using they're even using some of our data, depending on the platform, they're even using some of our data in order to teach their AI systems, right? Yeah and you know, and then and then you start thinking about you know stealing other proprietary stuff, stealing photos, stealing uh stealing music. Well, we've talked a little bit about this AI generated music and shit like that too. I just I I cannot I I I'm I just don't go for that. Yeah you know you know give me give me a human who's actually writing uh and composing you know some of this music and and songs that we listen to. I if I find out a an artist is fake because they've been generated completely with AI, fuck that. I don't I don't want nothing to do with it. I don't want I will not give them uh a second of my time, certainly none of my money, that's for sure. Um but that's where we are now. We're we're at a point where I mean I I I I took it off my my um my prep this week, but earlier on I did have a story in there about a band that was totally created using AI, and and it had people fooled. It that bad that artist, uh if you want to call it an artist, uh was all of the music was created using AI, all of the marketing was AI generated. Um and that particular those songs that were on the platform Spotify or wherever. I mean, they they've had they've had millions of listens, and nobody knew that they were generated by it was all generated by AI. And that's crazy. When I hear that shit, it it pisses me off. It's like I there I don't think there's a there's no place for that shit. I I really don't think there is. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02I mean you're taking away the the soul of music. You know, music is comes with you with a feeling and it comes with you with emotions and and whatever, regardless of whatever fucking genre it is. It's written by a human, there's a story behind it, and it and that's how you connect to it. AI doesn't have feelings, like it just doesn't work.
SPEAKER_00I just don't think there's any talent there. Like, like if you tell the computer a computer to do something, it's it's it I mean it's learned from us humans already. It that's how it's it is, I mean that's that's what it is. Yeah, and hey, hey co-pilots, uh write this song for me based on these lyrics, give it this type of tempo, do all of these different things, heavy guitars. Yeah, and there's no talent there. You you've told the computer what to do based on a few sentences, and it's gonna do all the work. Well, there's where's the talent in that? Where is where yeah, it's just it just doesn't make sense to me. It really doesn't. Um and and I just I I I just don't know I don't like where we're going with all this shit.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_00I really don't. I mean that's that's a small part of the problems that we have with this new technology, but you know, because some of it is much more serious. And and um yeah, I I just we're going around we're going down a deep hole here with this stuff, I think. And we better be careful.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, because it's gonna be hard to come back if it turns out to be Skynet.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. Yeah. Um let's let's talk about because I know this was on your prep last time we chatted uh about Sportsnet and them jacking up the prices.
SPEAKER_00So yeah, yeah. I mean, I've bitched about Sportsnet in the past and you know my struggles with them and what a shitty platform it is that they're offering and and technology, the problems technology-wise, and I'm just tired of spending money and all the stupid fucking ads and and all that sort of stuff. And but but but the thing is now that they've signed a significant agreement, a broadcast, another broadcast agreement with the NHL. So Sportsnet is going to be um basically, especially here in Canada, if you want to watch NHL, especially an out-of-market team, you've got no choice but to s subscribe to Sportsnet and their package. Well, they've now gone and also despite this new agreement, and probably you know, well, uh, I guess maybe that's it that is the reason. They probably spent a lot of money for this broadcast deal. They want to recoup some of their costs and stuff that now, so they've they've jacked the price up again for their subscription model.
SPEAKER_01Yes.
SPEAKER_00I don't know what it's gone up to. I didn't even open up the link here this time, but uh like it's it's a double-digit price increase for the Sportsnet Plus package, and that's comes in effect this NHL season coming up, or it's probably in effect now if you want to subscribe to the package, because the Sportsnet Plus doesn't just give you hockey, it gives you you know, you can watch your Blue Jays games, or I don't know if you can watch all of baseball, probably not, it's probably just Blue Jays, but but um you know, and there's some other obviously some other parts or or other pieces to the package, but the fact is it's a shitty product and they've just jacked the price up even more now. And I just you know, a lot of people are pissed off, a lot of people are bailing on Rogers. Yeah. And I don't you know what I mean, I don't blame them. I say I say fuck Sportsnet, fuck Rogers, and if you could find another way to to watch the content that you want to watch, then who cares? Fuck off. Again, I'm not endorsing anything. You do what you do what you want, but uh I just know that I'm not spending any more money on SportsNet and I'm not giving any more money to Rogers.
SPEAKER_02So um, you know what's funny about this is that um uh WWE uh has done the same thing. So I've been getting back into wrestling. I watch wrestling, you know, male soap opera, it's getting cool again, but they announced the thing with ESPN and they're doing the same shit. So you have to, it's the same amount of money. So uh the comment is if you're a wrestling fan, legitimately watching WWE TV every week, they're paying a minimum of $780 a year for Netflix to access the US, and this is in the States, but to access the USA network in Peacock. Once the WWE Premium Live events moves to ESPN next April, wrestling fans are going from paying $132 annually uh to pay $360 a year under ESPN. So, like you're you're spending so much here in Canada. We just you pay for Netflix and we get everything on Netflix. And so we get all the like the raws, we get the the smackdowns, and we get all like the main big events happening because it's included in the Canadian Netflix. So whatever you're paying a month for Netflix, I think it's what 30 bucks a buck, $30 a month now for the premium Netflix or whatever it is. But uh it's a lot of cake, a lot of cake. But uh yeah, it's the same shit. They're they're just trying to rip off the fans. Like, just if you made it more accessible for the fans, like even going to a game at a like a hockey game or a wrestling event, it's so fucking expensive. Uh I went and saw a Survivor series last year in Vancouver, and it was $600 for my ticket to get in the fucking door. Yeah, yeah, and I mean, I mean you're you're I mean, fuck, you could say it's a rip-off or whatever it was, but it was it was a good time. But that that's a lot of money. A lot of people you're pricing people out. Like, luckily I had some savings and was able to pay for it. But like, even going to see a Canucks game or a Bruins game or whoever the fuck you're seeing, you're $300 to get in the barn. Yeah, yeah. And like the worst thing about this shit is if you go see your favorite team and they lose, you just blew $300. Like, was it a good game or did they get blown out? Like, you don't leave, like you sometimes you'll leave unsatisfied. Like, I go see a wrestling event, at least I'm entertained. I go see a concert, and for the majority of, at least it's good, like it's someone I want to see, regardless. You know, hopefully they have a good show and it's awesome and it creates cool memories. But you go see a hockey game when your team loses, fuck like what that sucks, like that just sucks all around.
SPEAKER_00Well, in that respect, yeah, sport is different than than your other entertainment forms of entertainment, I guess, that you've referenced. But um, you know, so sure your team sucks, but hey, were you still entertained? Was it a good game? Whatever. It's it's all part of the experience, I guess. You can't win them all, right? So um but but but I mean it's it the whole streaming concept now is just really it's just put a whole it's put a sour taste in my mouth. It really has. I mean I mean, sure, I think we both dumped our we both cut the cord a long time ago and stuff like that because you know your TV subscription packages were kind of a farce as well. You know, you've got all of these packages and stuff. You've you've got you have to subscribe you have to subscribe to a whole package just in order to get two channels. And sure, I think eventually they introduce introduced some a la carte stuff. And but the fact of the matter is you're paying a shitload of money to your cable company in order to get a handful of channels. Um you know, so that's why we cut the cord, and you know, of course, then the streaming stuff came on board. And yeah, we we did have Netflix for a short time and and we never did get into the other ones, although having an Amazon Prime membership in gives you some you know, some video as well. Um but yeah, but but but now I mean look at them. I mean, I don't know what if what you subscribe to, if any of the other ones, but now you've got you know, you've got each like I don't even know all of them now. You've got Disney Plus, you've got Paramount Plus, you've got um I I mean what are what are some of the other larger or more popular um well Netflix out there? Well Netflix, of course, yes.
SPEAKER_02Um yeah, fuck. I I like the only ones, yeah. I mean there's yeah, fuck Crave, Crave TV.
SPEAKER_00Well here in can't here in Canada now, yeah. You've got you've got Crave, and I mean it's just like where does this fucking shit end? I mean, yeah now if you want to watch your shows, you've got to subscribe, and so instead of one cable package now, which you spent too much money on and didn't like any anyways, and now if you want to watch the content, you've got to subscribe to these uh four or five, six different uh streaming platforms. So you're paying probably uh a hundred two hundred bucks anyways, right? So when it comes to money out of your pocket, you're certainly not any further ahead. Um, you know, these platforms are notorious now for you know dropping content. You could be in the middle of a show and they're gonna drop the content all of a sudden and you're screwed. So where are you gonna finish watching your six season long TV show that you're half only through it and it's dumped, right? So you're kind of left hanging. Yeah. Um, you gotta find that content elsewhere. So uh yeah, it's just it's become a I don't know, it's become a gong show. It really has. And it's just this it's just the corporate greed. And you know, they're they're certainly not making things very easy or um what's the word I'm looking for? You know, the consumers, the cumul consumers are certainly not very happy about I think everything that you know is going on, you know, just so that they can watch some content. Yeah, we're getting short of the stick on a lot of the stuff. So so again, you know, that's why, you know, people people wonder why you know others turn to pirating. Yeah. You know, if you made things more reasonable, um it'd be better. It would be a whole lot better and people would be more likely to pay for it. Like if you could pay, like let's pick it up.
SPEAKER_02If you could pay $50 a month for every streaming service ever, would you just do it? I probably would do it. You're hassle-free. You get it in 4K, like everything wins. You don't have to worry about downloading or finding it or getting the content or streaming it or having different devices to play, all that shit. It would just stream and you're just good to go. 4K, awesome audio, you're immersed every time everybody wins. But the fact that one of these services costs you $50 a month, and to get all of them, you're paying fucking $500 a month. You're just you're fucked.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, yeah, it's it's um, yeah, it's I don't know. I mean, again, it's uh it comes around to comes down to money, it's corporate greed. And with $50, I mean, I know you just threw a number out there, but is fifty dollars enough to cover all the costs for that for them to be operating that service, I guess. You know, who knows? It's uh it that's the thing, it's all about fucking money, making money nowadays and making as much possible money as as much money as possible for these fucking executives. Yeah. I I just I I don't know. It's it's just it just the whole thing has put a bad taste in my mouth, at least. No, I'm the same. I know obviously a lot of other people aren't happy about it either, and uh I don't know what what do you that's the thing, what are you gonna do? If you want to consume some of this stuff, um you know at least when you you know when you buy uh you know, sure you could buy movies, you could buy, you know, like Blu-rays and stuff, you know. You know, you buy buy vinyl or CDs if you still want to do that sort of thing, and you still own the content then at least, but but that that's the best thing to do because uh oh oh no I've lost Steven, he left me, he left me.
SPEAKER_02Uh you're back, baby. I uh I lost you for a second, or I got lost, or something bad happened. But uh okay we we were talking about owning content, and and this is such a big thing now because fuck I don't remember the lot. I mean, I have now made a conscious effort to stop buying content, so I don't buy content anymore. So I'm streaming with title or apple music or acquiring other means. But you know, at one point, some artists like Neil Young, oh fuck, I'm no longer doing any sort of streaming devices, and then you can't listen to Neil Young anymore, like one of your favorite bands. Like whenever Taylor Swift dropped, pulled out of Spotify and Apple Music, whatever the fuck she did, all those Swift tweets are devastated. You know, like what do you do when uh when you're watching a show and they just stop with the license runs out after a month or whatever it's gonna be, you're screwed as a as a consumer. It's just you're fucked. There's no real way around it anymore. And that's why physical content was so awesome. Uh, but was and and they're doing a lot for games now too. Like you buy a physical game and you it's like a you know, it's like a three-meg file because you end up downloading it from the server anyway. So, what's the point of having a physical media disc if it's just downloading it from a server anyway? Like we're just getting screwed on so many things.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Yeah, for sure. I know I went I went on a tangent and stuff like that, and uh and I was blabbering a little bit, but but again, you you know you're right. You you don't really own anything anymore, and you're renting the service. That's that's that's all it is that you're doing, and you're paying a lot of money for that rental. Yeah. Um it's not it's not like the old, you know, sure, I still have a title subscription, but do I listen to it enough? Do I utilize it enough that it's worth it? Well, I sometimes wonder whether or not it's uh I do. But again, music I love, so I still use it occasionally, I still discover some some good tunes um from title. No way I'll spend money on Spotify anymore, that's for sure. Yeah, you know, but but otherwise, I don't really have a subscription uh at this point, and um yeah, well, I've said too much already, so you're a better person for it.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. Um, I did want to ask you something. Do you uh have a tablet?
SPEAKER_00I do not well, no, I'll just say no. Easiest answer is no. Yeah, but you got the example. But yeah, I don't I don't use it.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, because I was I mean, I've been traveling like hotels or fucking uh on the planes and stuff, and like so I'm in Winnipeg. My schedule's different than everybody else's because I'm in bed at 4 a.m. Even though they're two hours ahead of us, it's still like everyone's ears still fucked. So like I'm trying to find something to watch on the TV. And in Winnipeg, they speak a lot of French. There's a lot of like uh French stuff, like it's a French neighborhood, there's French restaurants, there's a lot of stuff happening in French there. Uh, but there's nothing on TV. And I'm trying to find like, give me TBS so I can watch reruns of the Big Bang Theory or French or something like that. And there was nothing, but I did find a French version of Big Bang Theory. So I'm fucking watching Big Bang Theory in French. I'm like, what the fuck am I doing with my life? But uh I'm like, okay, well, I'll just pull up Netflix or something and watch it on my phone. But then I was just ended up scrolling through reels, but I'm like, I gotta get a tablet in my life to take it like traveling just to watch content or just to you know do something to occupy the void. Uh so I was just wondering if you had a tablet that you used. Um at one point I had an Amazon Fire tablet. Uh I bought it fucking, I don't even know where I don't even know where it is. Um, but it was like $150 on a Black Friday sale, whatever it was. And uh, you know, that did the Netflix and all that shit. But uh yeah, I just I might have to bite the bullet and just buy a fucking iPad, but just to consume media when you're away or on a plane or or do something.
SPEAKER_00But well, I I know some people may think it's I again it's personal preference. I I have no problems watching stuff on my phone. Uh really I don't. Yeah, I it's yeah, it's a smaller device, but compared to a tablet, especially, or a laptop. I mean it's a laptop I take with me often, but but you know, there are times when I do watch content on my phone, and I you know what, I don't have a really a problem with it. Is it something I could always do? Well, no, of course not, especially with a brand new OLED TV and a nice sound system, but um you know, you know, it's it's uh there's nothing wrong with it. And again, with Plex, you can watch your content anywhere. So I don't I again I don't I can watch and listen to my every anything I have in my library anywhere I want, anywhere in the world. Yeah. Right? So whether it's a tablet or my phone or a laptop and stuff, it's always there. I I can always access it. So it's um you know, those fire those fire tablets, uh the those Alexa or Amazon fire tablets are actually not that expensive. Yeah, and I think they for for a movie or something like that. I mean, I think they're all you need. You don't need a real powerful device and you don't need to spend a lot of money uh in order to um be able to watch content out out away from home. So um and they had those are always on special, I think, on Amazon. So it's you know, I think they make a there's an eight-inch, they make a 10-inch tablet, I think, too, don't they? Yeah, I think so. So yeah, again, you can load up all the apps that that you want, regardless of what it is, and there's ways of sideloading apps as well. Yeah, because of course Amazon has their own store that you're supposed to download your these apps from, and it's fucking dog shit too.
SPEAKER_02Because I remember I tried to do I tried to sideload stuff and the the tablet just isn't powerful enough to do things, and and that's the problem you get. You get like an Android tablet or a fucking iPad or whatever it is, it actually it has the power to run all the shit. So even if you were to to hack it and do different things with it, like it has the power to run all the stuff. Well, that Amazon tablet is just as good as my fucking Nokia brick phone that I have in my fucking drawer.
SPEAKER_00Like it just like they're not too bad again for some simple streaming and and whatever. Yeah, anything else more in intensive, you know, absolutely they're not good enough. But um, I don't know. Streaming, they're okay. Yeah. But but again, I don't know. I again I'm happy with my phone. If I've got my laptop with me on the road, then great. Otherwise, uh the phone, listen to music, stream my music from my my Plex server. Yeah. Um or whatever. Yeah, I don't usually have a problem.
SPEAKER_02Uh on the plane ride to Winnipeg, I ended up watching Happy Gilmore too, and I was laughing out loud on my little fucking ultra screen or fucking Mac screen, whatever the fuck they call it. But no, I mean it does work. But uh, you know, and is that a luxury thing having a bigger screen to watch the content on? Yes. But is it cooler and make your life better? Yes. So fuck the haters. Um I gotta kind of have start rolling here. Let's talk about tunes because we've missed a lot of fucking great music. And oh fuck, okay, but let's touch on this. So we stream with a bunch of shit. I use uh I don't know, fuck OBS was a big thing for us. What does it OBS even stand for in again?
SPEAKER_00UhBS something broadcaster stuff. Fuck.
SPEAKER_02What does it stand for? Uh OBS free, OBS open source, uh OBS on stream.
SPEAKER_00Open broadcaster software. There it is.
SPEAKER_02So I was trying to get that up and running. So I tried to do that fucking four months ago. Uh, but then I uh something bad happened. I had to restart from a backup, and then I got it up and running. We did an episode, and then oh yeah, I'll get it up and running, and we've been delayed. Um, and then I had it up and running for a couple weeks ago, and we got delayed again. But I reinstalled uh Razer, I use Razer products at home. I have a Black Widow, I have a Darth Vader mouse, whatever the fuck it's called, and uh lighting a mouse pad, whatever lights does a bunch of shit. So I we had to reinstall it, reinstalled Synapse. Synapse is Razor's software to do different shit. So I reinstalled Synapse and it goes, all right, we're gonna take over this shit. So an OBS was one of the things that's gonna take over. Because theoretically, OBS talks to Synapse and it lights up when you're doing a bunch of shit if you have a month that raised your peripherals. It also integrated with the Algado stuff, it recognized I had some stuff installed, so it it figured out that stuff. So I'm getting okay, yeah, allow, allow, allow, let's go. But everything just stopped working. I was like, what the fuck's going on? Like it wasn't installed, like the keyboard stopped working, I lost pointers of my mouse, like so something got corrupted, so I had to restart from a backup, and that's that's where I am. So uh I reinstalled Synapse and made sure that was all working, but then I haven't had enough time to reinstall OBS. So my goal is to get OBS working again with a backup of the currently working system that I have now, so I can use OBS so I'm able to play the music that we're about to listen to. Oh god, I need a cigarette. But that was uh that's the story about OBS. So yeah, it's good. But so what pisses me off about the synapse software is that I have these two side buttons on my mouse, and I had them set up to uh open launch Firefox, like it launched my web browser. But the new version of the Synapse doesn't support the fucking mouse, which really pisses me off. And people are bitching about it on Reddit and stuff that it doesn't support what mouse is this? The Darth Adder version 2. It supports version 3 and up. So it pisses me off that I have to buy a new fucking mouse do in order to launch the light. It still lights up, I can control the lights, I can do all the shit, but I just can't launch software from this mouse, and I can't go back and I don't actually don't have a backup with my old synapse stuff. So this mouse is pretty much a shiny dick with no balls attached. Like I'm fucking mad about it. Like I'm so like I spent a lot of time trying to figure it out, and like uh it just fucked. I'm like, and then I started looking at different launcher programs, and I just don't want to go for the hassle, so I'm just like, come on, software. Like, I hate how a piece of software will eliminate a piece of hardware like that. And that happens, it's been happening for years upon years, but yeah, that really pisses me off.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, that's that's true. Updates break a lot of old technology, really, really, yeah. It's and it's really shitty when it happens. But and but it happens more often than you think.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Um yeah, so it sucks. You're right. You spend all this money and then you can't use it anymore because of some update, and you have to either you know revert to an old version or which is a pain in the ass. Yeah. Um, you know, it can be done, I guess, sometimes. But yeah, you shouldn't have to do that. Yeah, that's right. Why don't you support it after if something is extremely outdated and and whatever and especially if there's security concerns, then yeah, you don't support it anymore. But hey, when you're talking about some expensive pieces of technology, uh yeah, you just don't hate it when it happens. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02But anyway, that's the rant.
SPEAKER_00The moral of the story is backup, backup, backup. That's the moral of the story. Yeah, that's it. That's all I can do. You gotta have backups of your computer, your operating system, backups of your music, you gotta have backups of your photos, all of this stuff, right? You need it all. You need it up backup file. Yeah, yeah, and then you cry. I'm still crying. Yeah. Okay, where are we at?
SPEAKER_02What are we doing here? Let's let's let's rock rock out some Nine Snails. So Nine Snails are doing uh the Tron soundtrack. And uh this Tron soundtrack, it's gonna be fucking awesome. This song I actually picked out. And its song is called As Right As You Need Me to Be. And it's just it's just uh pressed off nails was done in years. I'm super stoked with that Tron movie that comes out in December because it's all shot with your event.
SPEAKER_00So yeah, yeah. Uh so so they contributed to the full soundtrack for the movie. So it is you you may as well call this a nine-inch nails, proper nine-inch nails record. Even though it's a soundtrack. Yeah, but I have it. It'll be it'll be interesting. I hope it's I hope we consider it. But being a true album. When it comes out, when it comes out, cause that's what September. Yeah, I'm gonna go. Okay, uh, but it's just uh well maybe that'll give me enough time to catch up on the old Tron movie space. I mean, I'm sure I saw the first one. I don't know that I ever saw the second Tron movie. Jeff Bridges that came out in what like 2010, 2011, 2012. That was Johnny.
SPEAKER_02Um control over the audio. So that means if you play your tunes and I'm playing my tunes, we only can catch every four words. So it's gonna go through them back.
SPEAKER_00We'll see what we'll see what my teleporting is like. I guess we'll find out once I uh go into the file and figure it out. Anyways.
SPEAKER_02These are the problems you deal with. OBS, baby, you gotta set up the OBS. I take full responsibility of that.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, because I'm because I'm I mean we're we're streaming through Video Ninja, which is uh which is a basically uh uh an online platform, but I'm recording using OBS on my side and I'm able to separate the different audio tracks, right? So theoretically including uh including a mix of our our live stream here. So I'm hoping if your side doesn't work, then my side will be at least anyway. So okay, well fine. We keep going. Let's let's keep going and let's see what happens here.
SPEAKER_02How's that? And if not, if this is where I cut the show on this stream, I apologize in the battery. Alright.
SPEAKER_00Let's keep going.
SPEAKER_02Um I mean we haven't chatted in a while, so I just picked a track for every week that we haven't really chatted. Uh so there's a lot of track. We both listen to a lot of shit all the time. Yeah. Um so I don't know. Play whatever fuck I want you. I got a bunch of stuff. Let's play the Biffy Clyro because uh were you there at Sea Fox when Biffy Clyro came in?
SPEAKER_00No, I I w well I was I was working, but I wasn't I didn't I didn't make this. I didn't see any of that performance. I didn't I don't know why.
SPEAKER_02So uh I've always had a soft spot with Biffy Tyro, and maybe recorded the albums two albums ago with Ginny Guard. Whatever it's I don't think it was one of Main Street, but it was the one on the highest or something about your kind of talk about any um that uh are you familiar with Big Pyro?
SPEAKER_00I haven't, actually, and and I and I need to because I've definitely heard some of his music in the past, nothing recent. Uh and I've um and it's and it's pretty good. There's some good tunes there. And so I need to it's one of the bands I probably need to do to check out more of, for sure. Because um Yeah, so it's pretty it's pretty cool. This is a this is a cool tune. Yeah. Um definitely have to watch for the for the new album when it comes out. We'll just do two more. Play the finger eleven.
SPEAKER_02Because we'll I represent the uh the Canadian boys. Uh they have uh Richard Patrick from Filter helping out with vocals on this, and they're kind of getting back to uh their rock roots performance couple something on Previous I still love to say that just recorded on. But uh, how I like your radio second showing chewing up the scene.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, it takes time does something good on the print, but I can't say that I could not see Finger 11. But yeah, pretty good too. Uh nice collaboration there. I think it's just a kid. It's just the one song they collaborate on, is that right?
SPEAKER_02And I've seen some live moves of them doing this on live. You know, the singer from Finger 11 just takes it over, but it's it's still a fucking great.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_02And uh one song that I've listened to a hundred times is this White Reaper song called Blink. Uh so they have uh album coming out, and I I think it's October, and their second single just came out, which is called Blue 42. But I there's something about this, it's less of old school punk, but it's still like yeah, I I don't know. But I I it's really, really I just love the listening button. I don't know what it is. It's one of those things that just catches my ear. But did it catch your ear? Because you usually are my biggest critics.
SPEAKER_00Maybe the trigger I've I've never heard of these guys before. At least I don't think I have much of them. Maybe the name white or development.
SPEAKER_01Um It's not a bad song.
SPEAKER_00It's not a bad song, it's not a little fluffy, but I always like to like someone like I call things fluff. I don't know, some of this some of it's punk. It's it's not punk to me. It's it's fluffy. Alternative? I I don't know what it is. Again, it's not a bad thought. I I don't know, it's not uh it's not uh yeah, maybe alternative is a bad boy. It doesn't really sound like punk.
SPEAKER_01Stop think that stops.
SPEAKER_00Any other people would call it, but pretty pretty boy punk. Pretty boy punk is another term. Pretty boy punk. There's lots of really bad pretty boy punk out there.
SPEAKER_02I'm not saying this is, but I'm getting that tattooed on my arm. Pretty boy punk. Um just pretty boy or pretty boy punk? Pretty boy punk. Okay. PPP. Um well we gotta play the Deftones. Deftones released their last studio album. I flew to fucking Winnipeg to see the Deftones. I'm a big Deftones fan. I actually saw them almost a year ago. But this is my favorite song off the new album, which is Private Music, which was released two weeks ago. And uh yeah, this is I love fucking Deftones. This song has an amazing face rip. Uh they didn't play it live. I was hoping they'd play it live, but I uh fucking did miss that.
SPEAKER_00Are you gonna bad film? Oh yeah, I do I do like the depthones. I have not listened to the full album yet, so I had not heard this song before. Yeah. And it's good. It is kind of classic Depth Tones sound, I guess. Um but it but it it's good. And it I'll and I've heard really good things about the whole album, so uh Yeah.
SPEAKER_02I think last time I played my mind with an album was the first single of this album. So that shows you how long we've been fucking away for. Apologies, shit happens, life happens. Uh and we will try to come with you more frequently, but sometimes shit happens. So uh that's life. But uh yeah, we always uh always constantly listen to music, listen to that new Deftones album, and it came out two weeks ago, and it's fucking for sure.
SPEAKER_00For sure, good stuff.
SPEAKER_02Let's get to your tunes because I actually quite enjoyed your music this week.
SPEAKER_00Oh, good, good. Well, I have played a couple of these before, a couple of bands, well, some some of it before. This first one, uh, a band called The Warning. Did you play this before or was or did I? I can't remember. I thought one of us did. Yeah, because this is a three-piece, uh actually three sisters from Mexico. And and this this stuff is just awesome. This is rips. Um I think they're so talented, and they've got a great sound to them. Pretty heavy stuff. I mean, some of it sounds like almost like dew metal. Um, but it's great.
SPEAKER_01Great stuff. This is a live recording.
SPEAKER_00I think there's a film coming out or something like that. Um the song's called Automatic Sun. Good stuff, guys. I love these.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, and they actually cover a lot of Metallica, which I'll be cooking. Uh they did a version of End of Channel and the Marz on drums. And they played Atlas Rise as a three-piece, and it they they're just found great musicians and cool tunes, and that full album was actually really, really good as well, if you haven't listened to that yet.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, definitely need to check out more because uh yeah, I really like really like their sound.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Good stuff. Uh next is a new song from Testament. Uh uh great sounding metal. I just love it.
SPEAKER_02It's uh one of the greatest draft bats of all time. Yeah. I missed the song. I didn't even know what was talking about. Come on. Okay. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Uh what does it say here? 14 studio album of October 10. Oh, oh, oh, oh there you go. Yeah. Yeah. Um let me see. Okay, I played this band for for sure before. Uh Die Spits. I think they're from somewhere in Texas, I believe. Um another all-female band. Um I I really like these guys. Some of their music before I got out of the songs I played before. Um pretty decent stuff. This is kind of a video, but uh the song kind of kicks in really good after a while. It sounds good, yeah.
SPEAKER_02This one surprises me on your side.
SPEAKER_00Uh yeah, I'm trying to get it. Yeah. Yeah, pretty good, pretty good stuff. So they've uh coming out as well. It's uh Third Man Records coming up actually next week. So third man records. That's correct. Yes. Out. September 12th. Fuck yeah. Yeah. Okay, this this band is from France. Now let me kick it in a little bit. It's it's this this music goes all over the place. Um this is uh this is a band called Igor. But it originated as kind of a one-man band. His name is oh, I don't know what it is, it's some friends. Um Gautier Serrera or something like that. It wasn't kind of a one-man band going by the name of Igor, but now it is the old band. Uh but they jump all over the place. They did it with some classical stuff. So even like I said, even the song type jumps all over the place because it starts off with the piano, that's the that's the opera type uh singers here in the background. But it's really, really cool stuff. Uh it's new to me, I don't haven't been that familiar with this new album. It's supposed to be really good, it just came out.
SPEAKER_02So when I was looking for this boss, I thought I had multiple windows open so I can audio. Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_00But uh sure. Yep, yes, but uh couple more real quick things that's probably uh this is the uh black uh um but the four of the and four and either uh either is front lead and it's a button either there, yep, yep, uh, two I got there. I have two socks playing a lot. That's how you like that getting more black tablets black sabbat, same bite is dead boy or big song that fight is uh bike is bad bike music sounds great, but fight as don't yeah, I quite like it. Yeah, yeah, good stuff. Yeah, again, I I like I like high and fire, I like Matt Bike, great guitars, obviously his own uh style of vocals and pretty good, pretty good stuff. Cool cover, full cover. Full tribute. Uh okay, one last thing. I went to the past here because of Black Sabbath and Aussie and everything that's been going on. I've been looking back at you know some of the early heavy metal, especially the stuff that came from from the UK, and you know, everybody says that Black Sabbath is kind of they're they're the originators uh of heavy metal. That's where heavy metal comes from. But there's a lot of heavy music that came out before Black Sabbath, before our bands called like a like Blue Cheer, and and uh so I've been kind of checking out some of this stuff, and one of the bands I came across is called the Edgar Broughton Band. And uh this is an old this is a live recording, so the quality isn't that great, but but this is this came like this band was out in 1968, so a couple years before, or at least a year before uh before Black Sabbath. Um but it's just it's just that really heavy sound to it. And there's a lot of bands like this you know that maybe they didn't they didn't they weren't successful like Black Sabbath, but they still made some really good music to make it they still had that sound in play before we even heard Black Stoppers, right? So this particular live recording was 1970, but the song is from 1969 again before I think uh Tablet's first album. So um anyway, it's really cool stuff again. I've I found like a dozen similar sounding bands, really heavy bands from the late 60s from the UK and awesome. So yeah, that's awesome. Really enjoy that stuff. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02And that was a cool video too.
SPEAKER_00This uh well yeah, it's um again, uh there's a there's a I think it's a German uh was it a German TV show or something, I think. Called the B Club. And they featured a lot of live, really cool live recordings from way back in the late 60s, early 70s. I think the B Club even went into the 80s, maybe. I'm not even sure. I'd have to check the history of that particular TV show. But yeah, great like the B Club. The B Club, I think, is uh I think they're German. Yeah, they always had a trippy background behind some of the artists when they were performing and stuff. Yeah, they sound really good. I mean this one's not so much, but not a good recording, I don't think, but some of the other stuff I watched is pretty good. Yeah. Discovered some good music from back then.
SPEAKER_02I gotta get into that cavity stuff. Um there is for sure.
SPEAKER_00There's so much out there again. A lot of it most of us probably didn't even we're not familiar with it. I mean maybe they only released a couple albums before. Again, maybe they it was over on the other side of the planet and that exposure. And um just so much. I just love all that stuff. That's where a lot of the music comes from that we hear today. Um typically hearing it. I've never heard this music before. But it's really funny when you hear it.
SPEAKER_02And I think the greatest thing about it is that the artist might have so much more of a bad catalog if you like a couple things and you might discover a whole new genre. Yeah, for sure. Fucking cool shit. Yeah, check it out. And as always, if this part doesn't work out, please check out our webpage. There's some great music there, uh, all that yellowclouds.com. Uh did you watch anything recently that was worth noting?
SPEAKER_00A couple things real quick. Yeah, we did watch the Final Reckoning, the uh the Mission Impossible movie, obviously, with the new TV and the new art ultra sound bar, so it sounded great. That was a cool movie. I didn't mind that movie. I don't I think a lot of people I don't know, from what I've read, maybe wasn't as good as the previous one or previous mission impossible movies, but I enjoyed it.
SPEAKER_02I thought it was pretty good.
SPEAKER_00Exactly. And I still can't believe that he still does a lot of his own shit, right? Yeah. Say what you will about Tom Cruise, and a lot of people don't like him. Well some people need to think of this and maybe that's true at the same time. In their lives, but anyways, anyways, the movies are awesome, it's entertainment. Fuck it. Yeah, give it a bunch. It's all good. Uh uh, a German uh war movie uh called All Quiet on the Western Front. Uh, this was the remake from 2022 because the original goes way back. I mean, the novel goes way back to the like the 1920s, but I think there were a couple of other versions that came along, one in the 1930s, I think, the other one in 1979. Anyways, this was a remake. Um this was kind of the uh the end of World War One from a from uh the perspective of uh the Germans on the front lines. Uh fucking it's just to to watch these uh intense war movies like this is just it's it's pretty heartbreaking. It really is to see what happened because I mean I think a lot of these uh you know, I don't know if the story itself was uh was actually true, like as far as the characters and who they represented, but what actually took it does represent what actually took place during the war and World War One and the and the trench war and stuff like that that took place back then, and it's just so fucking unreal to see it uh like on film. I and I just couldn't imagine going through something like that. I uh like I really I I don't yeah it's just for for me to think back about shit like this happening on this planet between humans and the fighting and the war, it's just holy fuck, it's just horrific. It really is. I I just I just can't believe this shit happened. I really can't it's it's a dark place, man.
SPEAKER_02It's a dark place in history and for sure. Yeah, it's not good.
SPEAKER_00Anyway, so pretty cool pretty pretty cool film, and and again, it leads up to the armistice, you know, that it was signed on November 11th, uh and and all this sort of stuff, and the and the final days leading up to the end of the war. So uh pretty crazy stuff. Uh a couple TV shows real quick. Alien Earth. I don't know if you know about it. You probably do. I don't know if you started watching it. I have not. Um I I don't like I'm not gonna give anything away, but I don't know what to think about it yet. I think it's three or four episodes in. I don't know if I like it or not. Um, I'll finish watching it for sure. Um I yeah, I just don't I just don't know. It's I don't know. I'm hoping it's gonna get better, I guess. We'll see what happens. Okay. Uh Goliath, it was a four-season TV show with Billy Bob Thornton. Pretty good, actually. He represents a lawyer, uh, was with a big law firm. He kind of uh lots of problems, uh, went his own way, still practicing law, I guess, and goes through a bunch of different things. Uh, four seasons, uh, pretty good. Pretty good stuff. It was a good good series.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Uh start Star Trek Strange New Worlds. Uh, that's in its third season. I've been following that and watching that. Another one we just started working or watching is uh the terminal list. Uh it's only one season back in 2022, I think. It stars Chris Pratt. Oh pretty, pretty good. So far, it's pretty seems like a pretty good uh pretty good show. Basically, a bunch of um uh what are the war, it's another it's another suspense, espionage, thriller type type shows. Anyways, a bunch of Navy SEALs get fucked up on a particular mission, most of them die. One guy comes back and he tries to there's some weird shit going on and he thinks that maybe they were set up and somebody gave some information away. That's why the mission failed, and now people are after him. Basically, it's it's pretty good. The thing, the reason why I wanted to start watching it is because there's a it's not a I guess that you could call it a sequel, because it's called uh Terminal List Dark. Terminal list dark something. I I so it's not season two, but it's basically Chris Pratt doing, I think, carrying on. Um it's called the Terminalist Dark Wolf. So I wouldn't I wouldn't it's not considered a season two, but because it's terminal list and it stars Chris Pratt, it's maybe is it a continuation or is it just another story kind of based on the that what happened back then? I don't know. Anyway, uh pretty good. It's so far, it's pretty good. So yeah, check that out if you haven't seen it before.
SPEAKER_02Um while I was injured in Seattle, I went and saw the naked gun. Fucking awesome. Is it hilarious?
SPEAKER_00I heard it's pretty good, yeah.
SPEAKER_02Um, there's so much shit happening, you have to watch it again to get all the jokes. Because it's just they're they're they're writing like the writing is so good, and there's so much stuff happening at a high pace, you can't keep up with all the shit that's happening. You're taking process like taking time to process the next joke, and then it fucking hits you another one and you laugh on that one. It is yeah, it's fantastic.
SPEAKER_00Well, I enjoyed the originals with Liam, uh not Liam Neeson, he's in the new one, of course. Uh, I enjoyed the originals with um Leslie Neels. Yes. And um, yeah, pretty good. And I've been wanting to actually get back and watch the original TV series too, because that goes way back. I think it was only six episodes. Um yeah, so I want to check that out too. Uh, not that it matters to us because it's none of our business either, but I heard Liam Neeson and Pamela Anderson are a thing now. Is that in real life? Is that a good thing?
SPEAKER_02No, good for him. You know, she's still a fossil.
SPEAKER_00Hey, I'm not uh no, I'm not I've got nothing, no problem with that at all.
SPEAKER_02So uh I wish him love and happiness. Um what else did I watch? I watched the old guard two. Did you check that out? Shardy that on.
SPEAKER_00No, I haven't because I want to see old guard one, the first one now, just because of that. Because I yeah, I haven't seen it.
SPEAKER_02So I will let you in on a little spoiler. Not really spoiler. Wait till old guard three comes out, then watch them all back to back to back.
SPEAKER_00Okay.
SPEAKER_02Okay. There you go.
SPEAKER_00There's a good tip.
SPEAKER_02Um already. Yeah, just uh don't waste your time, just give it so you can watch them all three back to back and get the full old guard experience. Okay. Uh, I watched Heads of State. Heads of State has John Cena and Edris Alba in it. Fucking awesome movie. Buddy cop kind of movie, but it's it's well worth watch. Um, I had some workmates over and we always talked about karate kids, so I had them over to experience the Baldwin cinema. And uh we watched Karate Kid Legends because we always talk about sweeping the leg and all the old shit and Cobra Kai and all this stuff. So watch this. It doesn't really follow the lore, but they tie it in with an Easter egg at the very, very end, which brings it all together. So uh if you're into that, watch that. Uh making my way through the last of us season two. Have you completed that?
SPEAKER_00Oh, yeah, we finished that for sure. So you can talk about that uh more if if and when you want.
SPEAKER_02Yes, we'll definitely chat on that.
SPEAKER_00Okay. I think I had mentioned though that it was pretty good, but uh I don't it was not as good as the first season. That's yeah, of course.
SPEAKER_02Uh so what I have noticed is that the last of us they're based off uh video games off the naughty dog. Last of Us Season 1 follows Last of Us, the game, pretty much to a T. And Last of Us Season 2 follows the second game, but it is off. They've they've changed a bunch of shit. So I will get into that when I finish the series. So hopefully I'll be done. I don't know. Fuck, I don't know. I'm working my I'm fucked. But I'll eventually watch it and we'll get her done. And then I watched Happy Gilmore 2 on the plane. Uh, did you check that out yet?
SPEAKER_00No, haven't seen it.
SPEAKER_02Have you seen the first one? Oh, first one, obviously. Yes. A lot of people have it, so like, but like I get it's really good. It's one of like you'll watch it and we'll talk about it because I don't want to spoil it for you, but uh yeah, definitely give it a watch and we'll we'll touch base on that. Okay. There's always so many shows, so little time, and uh a lot of when I fucking injured myself, I fucked up my thumb. Uh so I haven't been able to do much like some of the way I've we're fucking old, I'm dying. But there's like um, I haven't been able to play video games. Like I'm really struggling over here, man. But um there's I'm just fucked. I hopefully everything's getting back to normal and whatever the fuck. But uh, but uh yeah, fuck good to catch up. It's been a bit, so we'll try to uh get this more of a regular thing. Um I'm uh we'll have talk take it offline because I'm fucked for the next couple weeks, but we'll be back with new episodes. Don't you worry about it. Um do you have anything else do you want to chat about?
SPEAKER_00I do not. I do not. No, everything's cool, man. Good good chatting.
SPEAKER_02Good catch up as things always go quickly.
