Why would you want to listen to two old guys yelling at clouds? And the worst thing? One of them is a fucking Swifty. Anyways, if you're still listening, here's Adam and Steven.
SPEAKER_04Yes, welcome all to it. This is the Old Man Who Yellow Clouds podcast, when we get together to talk about the things that matter to us. As we record this, it is July 13th, 2025. It's approximately 11 a.m., and we are podcasting live out of Vancouver, British Columbia.
SPEAKER_03Hello and good day. We would also like to honor and acknowledge that we join you today from the traditional ancestral and unceded territory of the Musqueam Squamish and Slave with Tooth Nations.
SPEAKER_04You know it. Hello, Stephen. My name is Adam. It's been a minute since we've done this again, as usual. It's typical fashion for us, you know, but I want you to know that I was thinking of you a lot while I was gone.
SPEAKER_03Uh yeah, I sure hope so, because uh I missed you too, man. And I mean it's gotta be uh yeah, I know it's been a many minutes. Not a not a minute, it's been a few minutes. Many minutes. Um I I yeah, no excuses.
SPEAKER_04We're busy, but here we are. Um so for those of us keeping track, the last time we recorded was June the second.
SPEAKER_03Was it really? I thought we were back into May, even uh, but hey, you're keeping track. I'm not so well maybe it's been reposted.
SPEAKER_04Did we relate on the posting?
SPEAKER_03It could be my I think I th I think we recorded in May. I finally got my shit together and posted it maybe June 2nd. Yeah, I don't I don't think we've chatted in a couple months. Jesus. It's been that long because you're a busy guy. I am a busy man. I'm a busy guy, but you're a busy guy. You're busier than me. You're you're busier than I am.
SPEAKER_04So okay, so I I I lied to you. Uh we last recorded May 22nd.
SPEAKER_03Wow, yeah. See, it has been almost two months. It's been about almost eight weeks. Okay, let's call it seven weeks. Seven weeks. Something like that. Okay, well.
SPEAKER_04It's uh that's a catching up to do. It's good to be back. It's good to be back.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_04Um so uh what's been going on? Uh should I go first or do you want to go first?
SPEAKER_03No, no, it sounds like you've got a lot of news. You uh well, you hit you took a bigger trip than I did because I went to Halberta last uh last time, and we talked about that, I think, a little bit already. But uh oh no, we went to Halberta again. Fuck so okay. I had I had a trip, you had a better trip.
SPEAKER_04Let's just put it that way. I mean, it was a different trip. Um, so I went to New York fucking city. Um I did visit the land of Trump. Uh everyone made fun of me for it, but we pre-booked it, and I don't care. It was fun. Um have you ever been to New York City before? No, we have not.
SPEAKER_03Uh I have not. No. No, that's on the list, but yeah, of course. Five years. Did people did people make fun of you because you were going to America and when you shouldn't be? Or is that what they're making fun of you over?
SPEAKER_04A little bit, a little bit. But I always I always counteract that with okay, yes, I may be visiting America and whatever the fuck it is. But you should be buying Canadian. I mean, I've been buying Canadian since day one. If you have not, and we talked about this. If you haven't been buying Canadian since day one, then something's wrong with you anyways. So I agree. Yeah, I agree. So I always buy Canadian or try to buy Canadian, I always buy cruelty free. And um good. And uh that's you know, those are my two basic standards for anything that I start to pick up.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, but you know, uh I mean, I mean, sorry, I mean this was a family trip, and and and I think you said you you booked it a while back. Yeah, I mean, hey, I I mean we aren't going to America, obviously, after all of this started. And I've explained that already. Um if you spent thousands of dollars uh on a trip that you booked last year at some point, then I mean it's it's uh it's a lot of money to just fucking cancel it and and not go, and I don't have that kind of money to waste. So I mean, I mean, I under so I understand that again, but if people are just taking last minute trips and saying, fuck it, I'm going to New York City just because I want to, and fuck you. I don't care what you think. Well, that's I don't know. I have a problem with that, but yeah.
SPEAKER_04Anyway, we won't go though. Uh this is uh it's a year, two and a half year trip in the planning. So it came up to it, paid for it, and whatever it was, and we're good to go. So yes, shit's happening. Yes, my sister was almost about to pull it. So it was a family trip. It was to celebrate my dad's uh birthday, 70th birthday, and um so it was plan in the planning, whatever it is. And my sister almost pulled it last minute because again, she thinks like us and didn't want to go visit the land of the trump and all that fun stuff. But uh she ultimately changed mind, and it was the four family members of us, four core family members, no kids, no significant others. Not that I have a significant other. Let's pour let's uh pour something out for me. Uh but, anyways, yeah. So uh uh we left um it was uh we spent five days in New York. So we I we took a red eye flight on a Tuesday night and left Vancouver at like 10 30 p.m. And we arrived at uh um New York at uh 5 45 a.m. Got in a cab at 6 45 and then booked it to New York City, went straight to her hotel, did a little bit of walking around. Then my parents crashed hard, but then my sister and I just wandered the streets for a good three hours. And cool. The best thing about New York is they don't give a single fuck. They are walking, they're they're nice people, but they're always everyone's on a mission. They're on a mission to walk around, get to the place they're going. They're they're friendly and stuff, but it's uh it's just a different vibe. It has a cool energy to the city. A great fucking place, great fucking place. If I bring up my said uh photos, did I send you the links of the photos? Did that work?
SPEAKER_03Yeah, yeah, for sure. I looked at those, checked them out. They have some pretty pretty good. You got some cool shots. Got some cool shots. Yeah. Does does New York City sleep? Like, like if you go around downtown or wherever you were, what is that called? Is that is that Manhattan? That was Manhattan. Yeah, does it ever sleep? Does it ever slow down? Are there people out all the time?
SPEAKER_04I think there are people out all the time. They had a bunch of like these food carts that were always cooking shit up. Yeah, and it was uh it was super cool. Um, but yeah, so the first the first day we did Central Park. Central Park is like Stanley Park on steroids, it's like 15 times the size, and even more forestry, which is hard to believe because it's New York City in the middle of nowhere. But uh they keep it up and maintained, and it's it's an awesome place. There's like three or four lakes in there. Um, the friends central perk fountain thing is there, so we took a photo in front of that. Ah, sweet. Um, we did and we just walked things. So, in the five no in the four days I spent in New York, uh, I walked 175,000 steps. Holy shit. It's a lot of steps.
SPEAKER_03It is, it is.
SPEAKER_04Um, the highlight for me was you know, actually seeing the Statue of Liberty, seeing that thing that we've seen in all the movies and all the shows, and walking by it and seeing what it stands for and and all that stuff. We took a boat cruise that kind of ran around the harbor there. We should have actually took the ferry to Staten Island where it is and walked around it. But taking the boat cruise to see it in the distance was super cool. I got a dumb selfie in front of that. Um I did want to go see the 9-11 uh monument, but uh uh uh the one of the it was like a field trip for a school day, so the all the museum tours were sold out. So I didn't get to do the tour, and I really wanted to do the tour. Uh apparently it's sad and depressing as fuck, but I mean obviously. But uh I would like to have seen the history and and to see what happened and stuff, but I did get to see the monuments, and they're just big holes with water fountains ripping down them. So I thought it was a you know, at first I'm like, that's a pretty shitty tribute, but seeing it in person, it was actually it was cool to see in person. So um yeah, that was really cool. Um and uh yeah, we did the Brooklyn Bridge. I did all the sightseeing things, did the Brooklyn Bridge. So in New York, there's a Starbucks roastery, and it's like the it's where they roast all the coffees for all the Starbucks stores, and my dad's a big coffee guy, so we did the Starbucks roastery the day before, and he went back to go do it again on his birthday because he gets the free birthday drink on your birthday. It's the only reason to have a Starbucks card, and uh so we went back the second day to have his birthday coffee, whatever it is, and um then my parents and stuff, we walked around that kind of area, and then my parents went home and my sister and I continued on our day, and we decided to go to the Brooklyn Bridge. So we walked over the Brooklyn Bridge, which is it's a cool piece of um like culture and architecture in New York, but the place was fucking packed, like everybody who wasn't walking around in Times Square was walking around a Brooklyn Bridge, like it was nuts. Um, but it was really hard to get to the top, whatever it is. But we found a clear moment where I was able to take a photo without many people, and I I think I sent that photo. I'm like, holy shit, this is a great photo. And then so my sister was tired, and she said, Okay, well, let's take an Uber back to the hotel. I'm like, okay, cool. So we pump it up, and it was like, oh shit, it's like it was $112 to take from Brooklyn to Upper Manhattan because it was like peak rush hour, and it was $112 US, so it would have been $200 Canadian. I'm like, fuck that, let's take the subway. She's like I don't want to take the subway. I'm like, let's just take the subway. I am a subway slash train power user, I will figure this out. So the subway system in New York is super cool. They have a bunch of different lines and and and stuff to take you to different places, and it's cheap as fuck. Like it cost us $2.19 to ride the subway. And we only had to take one line, so we took what what you call the F line that took us within like two blocks of our hotel. It took about 25 minutes, and she was moving, so it was uh yeah, it was super cool. It wasn't as dirty as people are saying. I didn't see any fights, I didn't see any costume, I didn't see any wrestling on this on the subway. So I was uh I was very disappointed in that. But as an experience and stuff, it was great. The weirdest thing about being in New York and then followed by Toronto is the heat. The heat is way different and way muggier than our heat. Like it's hot for us right now, and what are we at 24, 25 degrees right now? We're at 25 degrees right now. Yep, so it's um it's warm, but like in Toronto, we were like, or in New York, it was like 35 degrees, but like I'm brown. That I don't burn, I was starting to burn there, so I had to go get sunscreen and put sunscreen all over my face. I always put sunscreen on my face. I use like uh a sunscreen moisturizer every day before when I get up and because I have to protect this. This is the moneymaker. Uh but when I'm like uh but even with that, like it wasn't um it wasn't enough. So I had to go buy actual sunscreen and put it all over my arm. And it was just because you were just baking alive, like the heat is so different there, like and the sun rays are different. I don't know, it's gotta be more pollution or something. But yeah, I just I got I got burnt for the first time in a long time. My eyelids got burnt, like it fucking hurt. Like just I don't know what happened. But um, yeah, no, it was it was super cool. Uh a great time. Right on. Um, I have a battle injury from that. Well, not really a battle injury, and a cost-effective injury. I have two pairs of prescription sunglasses. I have one driving pair and one pair for work. And I brought my driving pair because they're cool. I babied these sunglasses, I've babied them for three years because that's how long your prescription, or that's how long my benefits take to kick in. I took them everywhere. The last night in New York City, I put them on the table, told my sister, look, wash these fucking glasses, I'm taking a piss. Okay, cool. Take a piss. I came back, the glasses weren't there, I didn't see them. My sister's like, Oh, I got your glasses. Okay, no problem. So we have uh we finish the night off, we go back to the room, whatever it is. Uh, we sleep, we get on a plane to head to Toronto or actually Niagara the next day, and we land whatever in Niagara, we rent a car. I'm like, hey, can I have the glasses? Because I'm driving. My sister's like, I don't have your glasses. I'm like, what the fuck you mean you don't have my glasses? She's like, Oh, I grabbed, gave them to you. I'm like, no, you didn't. So we're all checking our bags and and doing all this shit. Turns out she didn't have my glasses. She calls the hotel, doesn't have my, they don't have, they can't find it. So I'm like, great. So I buy a cheap pair of burners in Niagara. Uh then while I'm in Toronto the next couple days, I call them back and they actually found the glasses. They were in the lobby. But the lady's like, I'm like, they're black oakleys with the silver oakley thing. You can't miss them. They're only black oakleys you have in the fucking place. She's like, Oh, do you have a photo of you wearing them? I'm like, yes, I'm on vacation, I've took a thousand selfies. So I sent her a photo of me wearing the glasses. She's like, Okay, those are your glasses. I'm like, I've been telling you this for fucking 20 minutes, lady. And um, so I had to fill out, there's like a website called I LostMystuff.com at hotels, whatever the fuck it was. So you go there, you you fill out a request, they use UPS and they bring it to you. But the fee to get it sent to you was $119 US, and then insurance is on top of that, which was $75. So it cost me $250 Canadian to bring the glasses back to New York to uh Vancouver or Canada or Delta where I am, but $250 Canadian to bring them back. And I was like, what in the actual fuck? And it was like, why don't you just buy a new pair? One, because they're in prestige condition, two, they now have insurance in them, so if they break, I'll get a new pair anyways. And three, like I still got like they're still great sunglasses. There's they're great, and they came back to me great. They just had an extra fingerprint on them, wiped them off, and uh it was good to go.
SPEAKER_03Well, since they're prescription, obviously it was probably the right thing to do. If they were regular sunglasses, even if you did pay 300 bucks for them at that point, yeah, you just yeah, let me know just buy a new pair. But um, yeah, that still sucks. It sucks when you gotta spend extra money for for silly reasons for for stuff. Yeah, anyways, it sucks. But you know, um yeah, uh, what was I gonna say? Oh, back to the back to the subways and stuff like that, man. I I mean it's just everywhere we go we take public transit, man. And I just I I don't know people people seem to be I mean, even here in Vancouver, I think I think people are scared of taking public transit. And and yes, there are some things about public transit that are just not very good sometimes, but I mean I mean hey, you were you work for public transit. Yeah, uh like but but but I like every place we have gone I mean it's the best way to see a city. Oh it's it's you you see the the history, you see the architecture, you see the um it's just it's just and it's cheap. It's easy and it's cheap, and I don't know why people are afraid to do it. You're already spending enough money to go on vacation someplace, and and um I don't yeah, I I just don't get it. I mean because every everywhere we have gone, San Francisco, LA, uh, and of course most recently Iceland and you know Rike Vic, London, Paris. I mean we use public transit everywhere. And um yeah, it's awesome. So I don't know what the I don't know what the problem is. Um and then and then the hustle and bustle of Manhattan and stuff like that, and you talk about New Yorkers not really giving a shit. Yeah. I think it's because it's it's probably just because it's so busy, right? Like so people just wanna get to where they need to go, especially uh hey, especially if they live there, right? They just want to fucking go and do what it is they they want to do, and it's I don't know. I'm I mean I'm the same way here. I'm the same way here. Yeah, I think so. It's sure it's not as busy. Excuse me, not as busy here as it is in Manhattan, but shit. If I'm walking and downtown's busy, it's summertime right now. There are lots of tourists everywhere. If I want to go somewhere, I'm just fucking going. I just I'm not rude, I'm not impolite, uh, you know, but but hey, just like don't fucking families of fucking kids taking up a whole fucking sidewalk. I mean, come on now. But I just people, you know, be be considerate and you know, let people through and you know, no problems, right?
SPEAKER_04So um I don't know. Here's one thing I'll say about New York. I'm not a fashion dude, I don't give a shit. We always wear rock shirts, we don't give a fuck. Yeah, everyone in New York is dressed the nine, they're all in suits, they all look good, they're all like they're all hot, and most of the girls aren't wearing any bras.
SPEAKER_02I noticed that in your comments. Um that's that's pretty funny. You sure noticed that in a hurry.
SPEAKER_04Oh, you notice that really quick. And everyone is carrying a uh Dunkin Donuts or a Starbucks drink in their hand. Everyone has it and they're every day. And there's there's you think Vancouver was bad for Starbucks? Remember on Robson and Thurlow here in Vancouver, there was a Starbucks kitty corner to each other?
SPEAKER_03Yeah, yeah, right across the street.
SPEAKER_04It's like that in every block, every major block in New York. It's there's Starbucks everywhere. Yeah. And you walk in and get your drink, whatever it is, and it's just packed. There's mobile orders up the yin-yang. There's maybe 50, 60 drinks just sitting there waiting, and there's 15 employees with four different coffee machines, and they're all working as a unit to get these things pushed out. Yeah, I'm pretty sure it's why they are still employed because of New York City. Yeah. Um, so after that, uh, we got on the plane. So we I keep going. I fucking keep going all day. We've been having talking a while. Um so we hopped on a plane and flew to uh Niagara or flew to Toronto and then we drove to Niagara. So I visited Niagara Falls for the first time. Have you ever been there? No. Um, I think now is the time to see it because we appreciate it. If I saw it about 20 years ago, I'd be like, okay, yeah, that's just that's kind of cool. But sitting there and watching it and watching all the like watching the two falls or whatever it is, and and just being a part of it was super fucking cool. You don't we spent two days there. We showed up there at like three o'clock on the day, and then kind of walked around, went for dinner, and then the next day we slept over and did the boat cruise, so we got in a boat and kind of went underneath the falls and all that stuff, and that was super super fun. Um, but like just seeing the beauty and just being there and just witnessing that it's not I looked it up, it's not the seventh wonder of the world, but it's one of the 50th best waterfalls in the world or something like that. But it it's super cool, you gotta check it out. It's you only need a day there, and the hotels and stuff are really good, but um and cheap-ish, but it's uh it's it's super cool to see. And then we kind of drove around and went down to like the old history or the old museum part or the sorry, the old town part by Niagara, just walked around all that stuff, and it was it was just super fun to see.
SPEAKER_03Dumb question, but but all of that is still part of Canada, right? Yeah, you you can go do all this stuff without crossing the border. I don't know exactly where the border line is around.
SPEAKER_04Well, it's across the other side. So there's one fall on the Vancouver side or sorry, on the Toronto side, and then the other side is on the Buffalo, New York side. So one day my dad and I did the we crossed over. So you walk over a bridge, do your shit, and walk over on other sides because we were there, might as well go see what the hell it is. So we walked over. But but the weirdest thing about that was is you had to pay a toll to cross the border there because it's to even walk across, yeah. So it was like a turnstile, but there's a big exclamation, and pretty much it said, Hey, is this to help keep the parks alive? Because you're you're crossing over to go see the and keep the natural park and the whatever the on the Buffalo, New York side.
SPEAKER_03But do you have to go through customs to cross to the New York side? Yes, you does that work.
SPEAKER_04Yep, yeah. So you go through it, there's a big lineup of people, and we showed our you know, passports, nexus cards, whatever we had, and crossed the order. It was it was painless, but you still have to go through uh customs.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, of course. That's not a I know that was a silly question, but anyway, I'd ask it.
SPEAKER_04Um but yeah, same, same, different side. It's all it was, and they had a different viewpoint, so it's seeing a different viewpoint and seeing a different angle of it is cool. But uh, yeah, we were over there for a good three hours, had some ice cream, turned around, and walked back. But 100% would recommend doing that. And then I woke up the next morning and my parents dropped me off in the big city of Toronto, and then they fucked off, they banned me, and then I was left by myself in Toronto for three days. Uh, so I wandered around, I saw the big ass CN Tower. My review is it's tall, that's it, doesn't do anything. Welcome to it. And then I went so uh, do you remember Sarah Burke?
SPEAKER_03Yeah, I I I vaguely remember because she was on Sea Fox for a little bit, yep. Right, and um I forget when, but yes, I do remember her. I didn't couldn't remember where she went, and obviously she's landed in Toronto.
SPEAKER_04Who's she working for now? She does her own kind of thing, she does a thing called the woman. We should actually get her on the show because I think she's doing really well for herself. But yeah, so I met up with her. I haven't seen that lady in 18 years. Wow, so it was it was fun to catch up with her. We went and saw a blue jays game, uh, absolutely got hammered. Um because it was a perfect day in Toronto. They're playing the Astros. The Blue Jays were actually losing, but they came back in the bottom of the ninth and actually won the game. So it was a great game to be at whilst drunk, whatever it is. And then um uh the night was still young, she had to go home. But then our good friend Elena and Steve were partying at a club, so I went and saw some Doom Metal bands, and then there was a Black Sabbath tribute band playing, and they were called Rat Sabbath headline. Rat Sabbath, I've heard of them. Oh, great! I walk in like this is the greatest thing ever. And then I walked through the door, and Elena's like Baldwin shot. So I got fucking even more drunk. Um, so, anyways, we hung up with them for a bit, uh, but because I'm on Vancouver time, uh, so Vancouver is three hours behind New York, so they're left at fucking. Midnight, and I'm still ready to rock. It was just because it's only 9 p.m. our time. So I watched all the bands. I won't finish watching it, but my phone died. So I now have to get back to this hotel, and I don't know where the hell I'm going. So I talk to the guy. He's like, oh my god, you're drunk. And I'm drunk. And the guy goes, Oh, the Chelsea Hotel is down here. I'm like, perfect, I'll get there. So I walk there, make a left. And I remember the Chelsea Hotel, but it's the sister hotel. So it's not the hotel I'm staying at. So I go and talk to the guy. I'm like, hey, I need to get to your other hotel. Can I charge my phone for 10 minutes and I can take it over? And the guy goes, Oh no, we have a stock boy. He's going there. You can catch right with him. I'm like, that'd be great. So I'm sitting down waiting for this guy. And uh, you know what I did? I picked up a newspaper because I had no cell phone to read. So I was reading the newspaper. Well, trying to newspaper. Trying to for reading the newspaper. And uh the guy comes up and he goes, You need to run? I'm like, yep. And so we I follow him and I get in this guy's car, whatever it is. I don't know if it's done this, but he's like, uh have you had a good night? And I'm like, yep. He's like, Do you want another beer? I'm like, yep. So he's having a beer like driving us back. And uh answer dropping me off, hey man, thank you for the lift. Um, I don't have anything to give you, so I appreciate you. He's like, Yeah, no problem. I do this all the time. He's like, This doesn't, you're not the first one that's happening, you're not gonna be the last. I'm like, thank you very much. Uh so I slept like shit, woke up the next morning, and then uh I had some time to kill. So I wandered around um the streets of Toronto and I went to the Hockey Hall of Fame. Yeah, and the Hockey Hall of Fame is a fucking cool place. Lots of memorabilia, cool things, little video montages. I saw some stuff about your Bruins and stuff.
SPEAKER_03Of course.
SPEAKER_04Uh a bunch of Skinux stuff and bunch of stuff about Gretzky and Crosby and Ovechkin, because Ovechkin just uh beat uh Gretzky's record. Uh we talked about that last time. So it was cool to see all that stuff. And then I continued my day, and then it just fucking shit rained. Like it was it was so much, it was so nice and hot, and then it rained for five hours. Like it was a massive storm. Uh but during the storm, I finally found a Harvey's. Harvey's, I loved Harvey's. Remember Harvey's? Uh Harvey's hamburgers. Harvey's hamburgers.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. Yeah. The charbro, the charbroiled hamburgers. I mean, I don't be beef anymore, but yeah, they were pretty tasty, especially when you're loaded.
SPEAKER_04Oh, but I was actually sober because I was walking around the next day. So it was actually uh it was really good. And so I had that, I had my onion rings, and then I didn't have any rain gear, so I took an Uber back. And then I met up with uh Alana Gay and Elena again at this dive bar called Sneaky D's in Toronto, and that's the greatest bar I've been to in a long time. It's it's covered in graffiti, they're playing great music, they had amazing nachos. It was uh it was fantastic. I that's definitely up. If you ever go to Toronto, you have to hit Sneaky D's. I met the owner, his name is George, he gave me a hat, but the hat was too small for my big ass head, so I gave it to Elena and everyone won. And then um I slept, went, woke up the next day, met up with Crosby. Remember Crosby, promo guru at Rock 101? Yep. Yep, met up with him for lunch, and then I took the train back to uh Toronto Airport and uh flew home. All right, all that's pretty much that's pretty much my trip in uh we'll say 20 minutes. So I'm done talking. Well, what about you? How was your trip?
SPEAKER_03The uh well, let's stick with yours. So you've got some interesting stuff there. Um what's um uh what was the name of the the Doom Battle bands uh that Rat Sabbath opened for? Was it Gozu? Yes, yes, yes, I saw that in one of your photos. That's what it looked like in the background. It was hard to read, but I mean they're a great band. Uh um they um haven't I even played some? I'm sure I've played some Gozu uh here on the on the show. And uh yeah, yeah. I mean, I I I think those guys are great. I listened to uh well again, two metal is kind of my thing, one of my things. So yeah. So good stuff. Uh Hockey Hall of Fame is great. I've been there once. Um it's been a long time. It's probably been uh well, it was back in the chorus days when we did when we did something in Toronto. I don't know, I went to Toronto a couple times for digital media conference or something like that. Uh but anyways, one of one of the days, yes, I made sure to take in the Hockey Hall of Fame. Um great place, but it's changed even more since then. Because I mean that's that's been I can't even guess how long ago that's been. Would it be 20 years, maybe? No, not quite that long, but 15 years, I would say, because it was early on in my chorus days. Um so it's they've got all of this virtual stuff now at uh at the Hall of Fame and stuff, right? New exhibits, new displays. So I'd like to go go see it again. I'm actually I'm actually going to Toronto for a conference uh this fall in October. Oh shit. I may try and do a couple things. Uh so uh the sneaky sneaky sneaky D's. Yeah. Sneaky D's. Okay. Uh one thing I I I wanted to do uh last time I was there was um uh go to Massey Hall. And you know what? Uh I checked concerts in Toronto for when I'm coming or when I'm going there. I mean, um and Queens of the Stone Age. Oh fucking. They're playing, they're playing Massey Hall. I tried to get tickets, it sold out in like fucking no time. Like it's just there's just nothing available. Even the verified tickets, there's only a handful left, and they're super high prices. Like it's just ridiculous, man. Yeah. I think I think Massey Hall is a place like the Queen Elizabeth Theater. You know, it's that it is that theater style, you know, it's so it's um, yeah, and it would be a cool place to see a show, I'm I'm sure. Uh yeah, sold out. So I don't know. I'll watch for tickets when I'm there, maybe something will come up. Um it'd be it'd be cool. Again, I'm still not going to many shows, but I figured, hey, if I'm going somewhere, um why not see what's going on?
SPEAKER_04And especially that Queen show, because it's gonna be a uh like acoustic strip down gig.
SPEAKER_03Well, yeah, it's their it's the cat, what's the catacombs? What's uh I play I'm playing a song later uh from that uh from that stuff, um the Alive in the Catacombs, or what is it called? Yeah, that's right. I think Alive in the Catacombs, something like that. Yeah, so uh anyways, uh yeah, it just it just yeah, you know, we talk about concert tickets and and shit like that, and it's just you know, it's sometimes it's so hard for regular fans to get a ticket because everything sold sells out so quick. And yeah, you know, we just yeah, it sucks. Anyway. Um, what else? My my vacation, yeah. We did go to we went we went to Halberta. We spent eight nights there, uh, between Canmore and Calgary. Uh it was the family thing. So, you know, we hung out actually the first couple nights though, we hung out with some friends, uh, which was a kind of a good way to start the trip. Um good to see them because we haven't uh we haven't seen them for a while. Uh and then it was yeah, and then it was just you know family stuff, which was which was cool.
SPEAKER_04Yeah.
SPEAKER_03Um I I I'm not going to get into a rant about TELUS here. I've ranted about TELUS in the past. Um they are just um, you know, I still use TELUS as my as for for mobile for my cell service. Um, it just seems like all probably all three of them now. I used to think TELUS was the best, and maybe they still are, which is which is a sad thing to say because TELUS has gotten pretty bad lately, anyways. I it just seems like they just don't give a shit anymore. Not that not like they used to. I I really think TELUS was a was a you know pretty good service and the customer support was awesome. I just they're a bunch of incompetent assholes now. And uh yeah, they they really are. They really fuck things up for my mom. And uh well, what thing again is it because you gotta give me something.
SPEAKER_04Like, did they screw up a plan to take advantage of her because she's kind of an older lady or what happened?
SPEAKER_03Well, no, but see, see well, okay, here we go. Let's go. Uh okay. Um, my my mom uh still lives um she's in an old house. I mean, we've that's the house I grew up in. They've that that's a house is pretty old. Yeah, and they still have old copper lines in the house. Uh so because of copper lines and because they don't want to spend any money doing an upgrade, I mean it would cost them a lot of money if they upgraded the wiring. Uh, because of the copper wiring, intranet is very limited. Uh, she's been like she's on internet 15. Like, it's like it's so fucking painful. When I go, like, I guess for her, maybe she's managed, she doesn't know the difference and how much faster and better things can be, right? Yeah. So when I'm there though, it's fucking painful. It's like dial-up. It really is, man. It's just, you know, it's it's it's it's terrible. Anyway, so I got the bright idea that uh, well, so so because she's on internet 15, because it's old copper wiring, TELUS can't do any more for her, right? So she's she's at her maximum, she's maxed out for her internet speed at home. Uh so I got the bright idea. Well, let's check out well, let's check out Rogers. Yeah. Okay, so Rogers gave us a pretty good deal, actually, and and um she already has cable TV, it's just a minimal package, cable TV package. Yep. She still has uh her home phone through TELUS, and she has that um Lifeline pendant or or whatever, right, through TELUS. So, but so the only thing she wanted to cancel was um her TELUS internet. Well, that started a whole fucking gong show because uh the the account was under my dad's name, so they had to create a new account for her, transfer the services, and it just things went downhill really quick because you know she's had the same phone number for 60 years. Well, when they when they transferred the service, they basically started her from scratch. They were going to assign her a brand new phone number. They were going to what told they told us things would take maybe a couple days for the transfer to take place. Well, then things got fucked up. They said it would take a week to get fixed. So here's here she is without a home. They told her she was gonna be without a home phone for up to seven, seven or eight days, business days, right? Like, like, come on, that's unacceptable. Yeah, that's not what you told us. This was a simple transfer, no problems, keep the same phone number, blah blah blah. And um, no, no, they um they could they completely terminated the previous account, started a new one, they were going to assign a brand new phone number for her, and it's just it's you know, it's a horror show. You know, then she wanted to keep her email address from the TELUS Internet, and they cut that off too. Oh, good. And then they were and they were going to assign her a brand new email address. Well, like what is an what is an elderly person who depends on their phone and their email for their appointments and other communication? What are they supposed to do when you cut off their phone, you cut off their email, yeah, and and and not only cut it off, but have to start over with a new phone number. All of her doctors and appointments have her old phone. Like, like how is she supposed to call all of these contacts? Yeah, and hey, my number, my phone number is changed, my email address is changed, like and and tell us just didn't seem to give a shit.
SPEAKER_04Oh, good.
SPEAKER_03And oh fuck, I got I got so fucking mad with them. I I got I was pretty fucking angry. And um I hate getting pissed off, but you know what? We're I was getting the runaround. You end up talking to seven or eight different people, and each time you talk to somebody, you have to fucking start the story over again and explain the problem. And it's just it's garbage, man. It really is. Eventually I got to somebody, a manager in the customer care. Obviously, I I I I was tired of dealing with just your regular support people. Some of them were nice and friendly and whatever, but they just didn't seem to they weren't gonna do anything, yeah. So, anyways, um, I did find somebody who escalated this and they got the process going, and it ended up getting fixed in just a couple of days. So she was she was still without her phone for a couple days. I mean, yes, she's got a mobile phone, but nobody knows her number, her mobile number. Yeah, she always uses her landline. Her mobile has been just up to this point for you know emergency use or for her to take along with her when she's going someplace. And you know, anyways, anyways, it finally got fixed, and um, I I ended up getting some pretty good discounts for her on those two accounts that she still has to TELUS. But but still, I was on the phone for so much. Like, like here I'm supposed to be on vacation helping them out and just relaxing too. And here I spent the last two days fucking around with TELUS, and even when I got home, uh I was fucking around with them trying to get this fixed. And uh, you know, probably over the course of three or four days, I probably lost even more hair, not that I've got any, and uh my stress level was way the fuck up, and uh it just wasn't happy times. Yeah, uh I just fucking hate that. You know, shit happens, I get that, but you know what? It just seems like it's a regular thing now with with these guys. I mean, TELUS isn't the only one, but it's just like yeah, it's just like people just don't give a shit about their job anymore. They just want to get paid, they'll do the minimum amounts necessary to to try and make sure they don't get fired, and they really just they're incompetent. They re they really are. It's like it's like these some of these people just don't know what the fuck they're doing. And find another fucking job if you don't if you're gonna be that way. Customers customer support is not, and technical support are not the things that you should be doing if you don't really give a shit. Yeah, um, go fucking sling coffees or go fucking work at McDonald's, and nothing against the people who work there either, but it's it's a little less mindless, at least. You still have to provide friendly customer service, but you know, when you're doing something technical here, especially if you don't know what the fuck you're doing, get out.
SPEAKER_04So yeah, no, I agree with that. There's also like the fact that you have to you got pushed around a couple times, right? Like, why do you have to explain it so many times? Why can't the first guy you talk to start making the calls on your behalf? Hey, fuck, this guy's doing this and he needs this. I've tried it with this. Maybe there's something you can try. Okay, then you pick up to person two. Hey, okay, yeah, then my colleague explained your problem. I'm gonna try it like this, and we can try to move it like this and keep the number like this, or or you know, have some communication within the ranks as you're getting thrown around. You know what I mean? But the fact that you have to get and and it's not just tell us, it's it's the Fidos, it's the Bells, it's also for car like even for your car places, getting your car tuned up and different things and different mechanics looking at it and shit. Like, you'll have the same fucking training, just fix it. I know what the problem is, just make it work, okay. I'll I'd even sit on hold for an hour while they fucking figure it out. Do you know what I mean? Hey, okay, I'll I'll transfer it around. Okay, yeah, you say you can't get the same number. Okay, no, we fixed that. Or you say you want the same email, okay. Hold on a second, even if you put on hold and watch TV or something like that. Like, there's uh just work along, like work with each other. Don't work, it's like everyone has a different set of training skills and they can't figure out the problem for themselves, and they just keep passing you along and they just can't do it, or they all have different amounts of training or or whatever it is, and that's fucking everywhere. So, yeah, that's that sounds frustrating. But is she all set up ready to rock now?
SPEAKER_03And she's yeah, she's she's all good, yeah. For sure. She got a new pendant for her lifeline, which is actually a little bit better, so she's paying less and she's got the better pendant that she can take with her anywhere instead of being the one just for at home. Yeah. Um, hopefully she she needs to use it now, of course. That's always a challenge. But uh, anyways, uh, I mean, we want to make sure that she's uh gonna be alright. But if something happens, we you know the idea is for her to be able to call for help if necessary. So um, but yeah, everything's good. Um finally, yeah, finally things got fixed. So, anyways, it you know, it's again, it's just frustrating because it seems like, especially with my mom, I don't know why. These things seem to happen, right? Um, I I do these things to try and help her, and something fucks up along the way, and it's just um yeah, it's pretty frustrating for her, and of course it's frustrating for me too. So um, anyways, uh you know, still overall the rest of the vacation was pretty good. Um you know, always nice to go out there and see them and visit and stuff, but but uh it's always good to good to come home too. So um, did you end up upgrading internet? Yes, yeah. So I mean she's on gigabigabit internet now. She's paying less through for through Rogers. Again, it's because of this all this copper line stuff. Yeah, because they still use copper lines, they're the internet the their plan prices are sky high because of maintenance that they still need to service those copper lines in the older homes. So, like for internet 15, she was paying $115 a month. Holy shit. $115. Uh, I got her on gigabits uh through TELUS for I think eighty-five dollars a month. Wow. So um big difference. So I mean, how much faster is that? And she's paying whatever, 30 bucks less, right? So um big difference, big difference, though. Um I'm I'm sure she notices now how much better it is because like I said, she probably didn't even realize how how bad and slow it was there at the beginning, but yeah. So so I'll get I think um, you know what? I mean, I just I don't know that we did anything special out there otherwise. It was just good to hang out, went for some walks and relaxed a little bit and helped out a little bit, and yeah, it was nice.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, and I mean I don't know if we've touched on this, but you can see your parents getting old. I can see my parents getting older and stuff. So I like I make the time to hang out with them. I get along my parents fine. My parents are my best friends, so like I enjoy their company. So it's like yeah, it doesn't it doesn't bother me and people who fucking don't get along, it sucks, but it happens, it's life.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, it it is life, it does suck, yeah, for sure. It's um it's not a fun, it's not a fun time really at all for anybody. So it's pretty sad, but people have to go through uh just everybody, right? And it's not them specifically, but yeah, you still see their health decline and things slow down, and um, yeah, getting old sucks.
SPEAKER_04Well, even for us, like I wake up today, I'm like, okay, what's hurting? I'm like, nothing's hurting. Yes, yeah. Celebrate. Uh fuck, I've been trying to hit the gym a little more because it's hard to pick up chicks fat and brown. So I want to be kind of uh medium and beige. Um, but um like I was at the gym two weeks ago and I tweaked my knee and it still hurts. And then I went back and I was trying upper body stuff and I tweaked my neck. I'm like, what the fuck is wrong with me? Like, it's just shit just doesn't work. I don't I don't know what's going on.
SPEAKER_03So yeah, well, I went uh I've been having problems with my my shoulders are bad, like that. They've been bad for a while, but I had started having problems with my neck and getting headaches, and the doctor wanted to test me for a fucking tumor and for a stroke and all this shit. And oh yeah, for sure. Was this recently? Not yeah, yeah. Oh man, probably within the last month or a couple, well, the last couple months, probably since the last time we spoke, anyways. And it's like I mean, it wasn't I I knew I wasn't having a stroke or anything like that, but still, you you know, you what's what's going on? Something's not right, you know, what's going on here? And so got some x-rays taken in. I've got three fucking things going on with my neck. I've got um disc degeneration happening, I've got some spurs developing, and I've got some calcification happening. So that is uh causing some headaches and neck pain. And I mean the thing is it it's all it's obviously all connected, so you know, pain can go down into your shoulders, up into your head, down into your back. You know, it's like I was having all this stuff happening. So I've started some uh some physio, and you know what? For the first time ever, I went to see an RMT. Oh I've never I've never been to an RMT before, and it's just it feels so good. The the the RMT is working on my neck in particular and my shoulder, and again, they're all connected anyway. Yeah, but it's just it feels so good. It's it's she even notices by you know after the 60 minutes how much things have loosened up. And that's the that's that's the the idea of all of this is to strengthen your core, yeah. Number one, strengthen your core because it can help again, because it's all connected, it can help support your neck, your head, um, a little bit better. But uh so strengthen your core, heat and cold as necessary, and massage. Yeah, and that's so that's why my doctor said uh try massage therapy. Um fuck, it's just amazing. Just amazing. I've only had two sessions for massage, and it's just so good.
SPEAKER_04That's why you've never really been to massage before this?
SPEAKER_03Never.
SPEAKER_04Holy fuck, you're wasting all those benefits. I use all my massage benefits.
SPEAKER_03I know, I know. I've been to physio, obviously, for different things, but never uh never massage therapy. And yeah, I hear people talk about it and stuff. I just never felt I needed to go, I guess. But now that I know about it, it's like, oh man.
SPEAKER_04It opened a world.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, what was what was I missing here?
SPEAKER_04Yeah. Man, I uh it's pretty cool. I go for massage, I go every three weeks and I book for the full year. Like January, I book for the full year. I'm already booked, yeah.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. Well, at that point you're probably paying out of pocket, right? Because I still only think they cover a certain amount. For a year, you're benefits.
SPEAKER_04So I end up paying, I think, four dollars a visit. Oh, well, that's okay. So it's not bad. It's not bad. Yeah. But yeah, it's lots of and they always work on my arms and my neck. Same shit. Arms and neck. Because it's from all the typing and scrolling and everything we do with our fucking hands. Yeah. But it's uh it's fucked. Um, okay, so um I've noticed that you may have gotten a new TV. You need to tell me all about this. We may have. Well, we did. You did.
SPEAKER_03We did. What set did you get? I've I've been joking about, you know, every time something comes up, I don't know whether it's a commercial or you know, I've been joking about getting a new TV for like for like five years. And sometimes it it's I do it because I know the response I get, and and um, you know, it's just to kind of be a dick, I guess, sometimes about it because I know I know it kind of annoys the uh better half when I when I ever I brought it up. But uh like we've had a 40-inch HD TV for like 15 years. And you know what? It still works. I mean, there it's not like there's anything wrong with it. But uh it was prime days uh last week. Yep. Um I uh I actually got permission, so it I was never going to do this without getting permission, that's for sure. Otherwise, I'd be pushed out the street and uh I'd be taking it back and then pushed out on the street, I'm sure. Anyways, so I saw a bunch of deals. Uh I had a TV lined up for a while now that I've been that I've been buying, or you know, that I would probably buy whenever the time comes. And uh yeah, the prices were pretty good actually for for prime days. Uh we ended up getting an LG G5. I was looking at the LG G4s for for quite a while, but the G5 just came out earlier this spring. Yeah. The G5 is is um L the G5, let me say this, lots of G's here. The LG G5 is the uh well, the G5 is the top of the line model, I think, for LG, uh for their OLED TVs. And uh so I did a lot of research on OLEDs, and you know, a lot of people are saying, well, be careful because of burn-in and all that kind of stuff. Uh but for picture, uh, they're supposed to be the best. Yeah. And um yeah, so we I we picked up a 55-inch, and yes, that's small by today's standards, but remember we're going up from a 40-inch here, so we got a uh an LG G5 55-inch um for a pretty sweet deal at at Best Buy. Best Buy, London Drugs, Costco, they were all matching prices for Prime or uh for what Amazon was doing for Prime. So um uh I didn't really want to go to Lond to uh Best Buy. I I was thinking of going to London Drugs, but um actually I went to look and they were busy, nobody was around to help me, so I just decided to go to Best Buy and um got a pretty sweet deal, actually. I got even I got them to knock the price down even further, and they threw in uh a four-year warranty with it. Warranty I don't usually buy, right? I just never buy a warranty, but I figured, well, fuck, if they're gonna throw it in um for an extra 100 bucks, then why not? So so I think that four-year warranty is normally six hundred bucks. I got it for a hundred bucks, plus they knocked down the price of the TV even more from what Prime was selling it for. So amazing. Anyway, anyways, um it's so good. I've you know you notice the difference right away, not only because it's bigger, but because it's 4K and it's OLED, it's just a sweet picture, man. It's just such such a difference from from what we had in the past. So um so I'm I'm looking for awesome 4K HDR movies to get that TV in good working condition. Yeah, I'm looking for recommendations. We started off with um, and it may not be the best uh best movie to to to watch, uh although I think it was pretty sweet. We did uh Top Gun Maverick. Amazing. Um it's just amazing for sure. It just looks so good. So uh any other any other 4K movies that we should be watching so that you can take advantage of the well, in particular HDR or the Dolby Vision, uh, because the TV has Dolby Vision and HDR um capabilities. Um yeah, let me know if there's something.
SPEAKER_04Oh, so you get to watch you gotta watch Blade Runner, you gotta watch Blade Runner 2049. I I heard about those. Yep. Yeah, you gotta watch um any of the new Marvel flicks, like Spider-Man's. You can watch the Tom, the uh Tom Holland versions of Spider-Man, it's those are good. Uh we watched Dunkirk on 4K, Amazing, Cool, Dark. Yes, I heard about that one. Yep. Um, what's the other one? The new Mad Max stuff looks fucking cool. The Fury Road. The Fury Road, yeah, for sure.
SPEAKER_03Uh, probably the new one, too, whatever that's called. I forget what the new one is, uh the latest one.
SPEAKER_04Um, Ready Player One is uh one of the Spielbergs. It's kind of like uh third person kind of cool, awesome movie. Uh what else? Um because I guess your dad has your dad probably has a pretty sweet setup.
SPEAKER_03He's got a 4K TV, so you guys watch uh awesome movies all the time.
SPEAKER_04Everything was everything we've like since the COVID, we've been watching it. So like everything we've pretty much watched has been really good. Uh the new Deadpool obviously was good. Um of the Star Wars stuff, we just finished Andor, we'll talk about that later, but Andor looked awesome in 4K. Oh, okay. Um, just anything with like kind of futuristic-y kind of things, or like desert scenes, like Lawrence of Arabia is supposed to be cool. Uh, I haven't watched that in years, but uh whatever. Interstellar, we watched, we watched Interstellar. That was cool. You can rewatch the new Matrix, or not the Matrix, but Matrix, the first Matrix with all the cool colors. And so anything just kind of futuristic, I mean like the Star Wars, Star Trek, all that shit is gonna look fantastic.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. Yeah, it's um it's it it yeah, it's it's just like it's like the massage therapy, I guess. It's now now we we've got massage therapy here to to fix up the body, and uh now we've got this this big fancy new TV. Well, big for us because we've got a small place. Like you know, it it's looking at it, it's not it's not that much bigger, but it but but it is, but yeah, 60 65 inch would have been too big for our place, right? It's just because you know, we're still only about seven feet away from the TV, so 55 inch is pretty good, you know, uh is probably the perfect size for uh for our living room uh or living room area. And uh but yeah, it's it's so sweet. It's it's pretty cool. So I I've got uh the biggest thing now I've got to to manage, I think, is my uh is or figure out is how to manage my my library of movies because because this is a game changer now, right? Because this 4K footage is certainly a lot different than you know the regular stuff that we've been watching. And uh you know, I think we've been able to get away with lower quality movies to this point, but we're gonna notice that shitty quality on this larger, better TV now. So it's gonna change. I'm I'm gonna be purging a bunch of stuff, let's just put it that way. So and it's probably a good thing anyway.
SPEAKER_04No, you have to, it makes sense.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_04No, but that's uh I am fucking stoked for you.
SPEAKER_03That's badass. Yeah, yeah, it's pretty sweet. So set send me send us back a little bit of money, but hey, we're not taking vacation this year, so but it's what you got, like it's what it's what happens, right?
SPEAKER_04Like what you all we do, we've been doing the show for five, six years, all we talk about is movies. Like, we watch a lot of home content, it's something you use every day. Like, don't cheap it on your cell phone, don't cheap it on your internet because you use it every day for everything. It connects you around the world. Don't cheap it on your TV because you use it all the time, like get the best quality and what you're watching, and and whatever it is. And we're big audio nerds, so don't stress, don't cheap it on speakers and high-end gear. Like, it's just that's true, it makes everything so much like just opens it up with a new like you'll go back and rewatch something you watched a year ago. It's like watching it with a new pair of eyes, because it's just it's it's fantastic.
SPEAKER_03Well, it's and it's like the same thing that I'm talking about when we when we talk about high-res audio. Yeah, it's it's this, it's the same thing where you know, now some of the music that's been released in the last 10 years or even more, I'm finally able to crank it up. And yes, I can't keep saying this. Is there actually a can you actually hear the the difference in quality? Well, probably, yeah, but it's also the louder and the you can hear the sound stage now, and it and it is almost like listening to some stuff for the very first time. So uh even though I've been listening to it at uh lower volumes and uh different different technology for the same amount of time. But yeah, it's just it's it's it is, and you're absolutely right. You know, as we get older, our eyes are not as good, and you know, the lighting and stuff can fuck with things in in your surroundings, and whereas the brightness and contrast and the blacks in an OLED TV just look so sweet, it's just yeah. So I'm excited to to to to to watch some more stuff, even even again, like even if it means rewatching in a movie that we've seen a couple times. Yeah, no, you have to. You know, it's yeah. So so and that's why we kind of started with uh Top Gun Maverick and we watched the Dead Reckoning last night. Uh that's good. We did that not only because it's we watched it in 4K, but also because the new ones uh I think the new one is gonna be released digitally pretty soon. So uh because we haven't seen that and we didn't see it in theaters. That was my that was my other comment I was gonna make though, is that we rarely see movies in the theater. And I know you're a big movie. Oh yeah, and you go all the time, but but we rarely go to movie movies in the theater, and now with the 4K OLEDs, we're probably never gonna go to a go to a movie now because it's because it's just like it's just it's like right there. Uh it's so good. And um, sure, we're not gonna be able to see the movies right away when they're when they're released, but again, for us that that's not as important as it is for somebody else like yourself.
SPEAKER_04So man, but like here's the thing like I I do the get away kind of thing, yeah, escape reality, whatever for two, three hours, whatever the fuck it is. But to take up like so I've been doing a lot of dating in the movies, and to see a movie, it's you're paying 50 bucks for two tickets, yeah, and you're paying 50 bucks for food. So you're a hundred dollars to see a movie to get shit. Yeah, that's crazy. So and I'm fucking, but I still keep going because I I've seen a lot of shit. Like, I just I I watched a new Superman like on Thursday. That's fantastic. Everyone's saying, Oh, it's woke, it's woke. Superman, the dude's a symbol for hope and peace. He helps everybody, so you all can shut the fuck up. But um, no, it's yeah, like if you and I know you're a movie nerd, so like to be able to watch it on the best set possible with the best like now, you gotta upgrade your sound. What are you using for sound?
SPEAKER_03Uh well, we've still got the um the sono speakers, so it's uh it's probably it's not top of the line or anything. But for us, if you know what again, for us, it's it's not a 5-1 system, it's it mocks a 5-1 system, so it can't do, but it's not a true 5-1 system. Um still for us, I don't know, maybe again, again, we can't crank things up, right? Yeah in this place. So I think for us, the sound is probably fine. I don't know that we need to worry about that as much. So uh it was more the visual part of it. So no, you guys are set. I'm stoked for you guys. Yeah.
SPEAKER_04Um, and also then Xbox that you never play will look good on that TV. I that's yeah, it's I know, I know.
SPEAKER_03Now now I have to now I have to start using it for sure. Yeah, because it's still sitting there. It is connected, but it's still just sitting there.
SPEAKER_04Oh fuck. Yeah, that's you'll get there one day. I have I have faith. I hope so. Um, okay, we gotta talk about this. The uh Black Sabbath back to the beginning. So did you watch it live? Or did you you did you bought you bought a ticket?
SPEAKER_03We we bought the ticket. Uh, you know what? It was 23 bucks, I think, with taxes or whatever. Um I mean, fuck. You know, that was that was so good. You know, it started at 7 in the morning here, Vancouver time, and it ended like I don't know what the time it finally ended. Like it was 5 p.m. I think five, five or six o'clock here. So I mean it was going for like at least 10 or 11 hours. Um well worth the well worth the moment. Oh yeah, it's just I I'm so glad that we I mean I think the broadcast, the stream that we watched was an hour behind the actual live event. Yeah. Because I because I was looking at the songs being played online uh well before we were watching them, right? So I knew what was coming, but uh that didn't matter. Um, it was just it was so obviously it was a good for a good cause. Yeah. Um, because all of the proceeds, all of the pro, you know, all everything went to charity. Um it was it was just amazing. We hit we had such a great day. That was the day after we came back from our Hilberta trip. So uh we spent the day at home just relaxing, watching, listening to great tunes and good performances. So that was awesome.
SPEAKER_04So I woke up around that day just as Hailstorm finished. So I watched Hailstorm play Perry Mason, and that was fucking awesome. That was great. Um, then I you know, and so before, so they it was a well-oiled machine, they had the massive stage, and the stage had two drum, or it was like a rotating stage, if you didn't get a chance to watch it, but it was a rotating stage with the different setups and all the time. So that was cool. I watched Lamma God play, Lamma God played, uh I think they opened with Late to Rest, they did Redneck, and then they covered Children of the Grave, and they Lamagoded it, and it was fucking awesome. Like what a cover that was, too. Everyone who did the covers were great. I missed the anthrax cover they did Into the Void. Uh I missed Rival Sons. I think Electric Funeral and was it just Electric Funeral they covered? I think they just I think they it was just Electric Funeral, yes. Yeah. Uh but I went back and watched that. Uh what really impressed me was Tom Borello's All-Star Group. Um I didn't know about the song Ultimate Sin. I fucking didn't know about it. I missed it. Somehow it I I skipped it in my inventory, which is why it's there. I mean, that's that's even the title of the album. I mean, so how can how can you miss it? I don't know. Like I don't it's about the I deleted it from my brain. I don't know what it is.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, if it was if it was buried in there somewhere in in one of the albums, then you and you haven't listened to the whole thing in a while, then I could see that. But it's an it's it's the album title, and isn't it his third or fourth album? I mean, this is early in Ozzy's creator still. And wow, that's surprising.
SPEAKER_04But it had like I love um, you know, I because you know what I think it is. I think I have the album on tape, and I was listening to the album on tape, yeah, and it always started with never know why, and then it opened like because it was side A. So sorry, no, it started with what is it, Secret Loser. And then I kind of I don't think my but I think my tape was damaged, which is why I never really heard it. Like I always and I remember like Killer of Giants. I fucking love that song. I thought that I still think that song is fantastic, and that one Ultimate Sin had uh shot in the dark in it, which I listened to a hundred thousand times. Um, so that was the main one for me, and Killer of Giants. I always listened to side two because I think my side one or side A at the time was fucked up. So, you know, young young dude listen to Ozzy. Fuck, this is cool. Uh so I don't really remember it. But the coolest part about that was Jake E. Lee coming back and playing guitars because he was he's forgotten about guitar player for Ozzy, but he's still fucking shredded for that uh Tom Rello super group, and with Lizzie Hale singing the vocals on it, that was fucking awesome.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, um, he played a couple songs, I think, didn't he? Or was it just the one? He might have done two. Uh, I'm not sure. He might have done two. I can't remember either. Uh there was there was so much there, man. I mean, I mean, I mean, I enjoyed a like there were many highlights, I guess, of of uh of the whole day. Yeah. And uh that was cool, especially when what he went through because I I had completely forgotten that he was it a home robbery or something like that, or something. He got shot somehow, right? And we may have even talked about it. Yeah, that was a while back. Yeah, so obviously he's recovered and everything, but I mean that still that's you know pretty shitty. Um, what are some of the other things? Uh Steven Tyler came back and sounded great despite his health problems, so that was really cool.
SPEAKER_04But that also makes me thinking about maybe Steven Tyler wasn't the issue, maybe it's a big Aerosmith issue because they canceled that massive world tour that they had. Like he sounded fantastic.
SPEAKER_03Well, yeah, I don't know. Well, he's he's got legal issues too. I mean, there's a bunch of women who I think who have accused him of uh assault and stuff like that, so that is probably part of it as well, anyways. Um and if all that's true, then obviously that's pretty shitty. Yeah. Um what else? What was it? Uh the Alice and Chains stuff, their cover of Fairy Wars Boots was that cover was was awesome, and that was probably one of the top three or four highlights of the of the Aussie Black Sabbath covers. Yeah. Because they did a great job. Uh the start of that performance was was I think weak. Not not of that song, but of the start of Alice and Chains was a little weak. I think a large part of it was um Jerry's microphone wasn't working. Yeah. And of course, uh, of course, Chains, a big part of their sound is the harmonies that uh that Jerry sings all the time. So to hear William on his own for some of the stuff when you're used to hearing both of them, it was kind of weird. I think it's kind of weird. Yes, uh, yeah, for sure. So that was off. Um shit, I've got a bunch of notes here. Where are they? Um what the fuck happened? Uh oh, sorry. One of the highlights was the was the guitarist uh from Morello's group or guys or whatever. Uh the Betancourt. What's his name? Bet Betancourt? Bettencourt. Uh what the hell what the hell is his first name? Um He he's the guitarist for Extreme. Oh yeah. So you know, I I never I never honestly I never paid much attention to that band. Um I don't know why. I never I just they just didn't I don't know, I don't know why. Nuno Betancourt. Yes, yes. But but seeing him play and hearing him play was just like he was uh such a big surprise. Uh a surprise for me, again, just being not being familiar with him. Um like like he he almost stole the show for some of the songs that and he played on a lot of songs. Well, he did that full set the super guy. Yeah, he was there for a big part of that. So uh so that was really cool. Um hang on, okay. I've found my notes here. So uh what else?
SPEAKER_04Uh Pantera. I thought that Pantera set, something was wrong with the guitar. Like I couldn't hear shit on the street. Yeah.
SPEAKER_03Their their Sabbath performances were pretty good, though. I think the songs that they played were were not too bad.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, they did uh well Planet Caravan, which is they've recorded in the past, but I've never heard that cover of Electric Funeral before, and that was cool.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, that was cool, yeah. Um uh what's his name? Travis. Uh what the fuck is his name from Blink 182? Oh Travis Barker. Uh Travis Barker. Uh like I I'm not a big fan of Blink 182, but watching him, he like he's a great drummer. So that was really cool. That was kind of a highlight, I guess, if you want to call it that. Uh Rudy Sarzo, 74, Sammy Hager, 77, Steven Tyler, 77, Ron Wood, 78. Like just seeing those guys on stage. We're we're I think Sammy had a bit of a slow start too, but he came along pretty good and sounded great. Rudy Sarzo has just played this he's been involved with Aussie for such a long time. Yeah. You know, Quiet Riots, Ozzy, White Snake. What else has he done? He's he's a great bass player, so I love watching him. Yeah. Uh Tom Morello's kid was great. Well, I'm I'm playing a video uh from from that. There was a pre-recorded video featuring Morello's kid and Scott Ian's kid. Fuck that kid is just obviously he's got a great teacher, but he can. I mean, I'm jealous watching him play, that's for sure. That was cool. Yeah. Um, what else? Metallica Slayer tool was really good. You know, I really enjoyed the tool set. The hand of Doom cover. Yeah, and there was the cover was was awesome. That that was probably that cover and the one of the covers from uh from Metallica, the um Johnny Blaze? No, the other one that Hall of the Sky? Uh yes, yes, those two those two Sabbath covers were probably my favorites of the day. That was really good. Um
SPEAKER_04did I noticed Ross Helfin who is uh who uh he's he's been uh he's been a rock and roll photographer for years and years and years uh because they sold sold uh they they we saw some footage of uh some photo shoots and st and stuff like that he was involved in all that and fuck it I'm jealous of him too because he's got the greatest job in the world um what else uh what else can I say uh great for charity uh again I think they said over five million people watch the online broadcast so that's a lot of people and then and then all of the bands played for free so they raised a shitload of money that's for sure so that's really cool um and I guess the most important thing is Bill Ward coming back after 20 years so fucking awesome yeah I think despite the health issues Ozzy sounded fantastic was on fire uh he was on fire and uh you know what I had tears in my eyes I was I was so happy and it was such a cool thing even though I'm sitting here at home on my couch uh I just enjoyed that so much it was just amazing uh glad I was able to watch that see even if it wasn't totally live but um it was just a yeah it was just a such a fun day okay so let's talk about that for 10 seconds so Ozzy came up on the cool throne uh ozzie's band was Zach it was Mike Inez from Alice and Chains and it was Tommy Clifros Clutos Cliffros yep um they were fucking awesome and I want to shout out Zach because obviously Zach has been a long time player for Ozzy every time Ozzy would kind of stumble or something Zach would go over some for some support he sat there he'd play with them the relationship that Zach and Ozzy have is it was awesome to watch he sang behind him to help push his vocals when needed he kept his eyes on them when Ozzy was kind of screwing up some words Zach was shredding to quickly turn to make sure if he was okay like to watch that relationship at that moment was super fun to watch and super cool to watch yeah um what else was super cool uh that said I like I don't know was good the performance of uh Mama I'm coming home was that was heartbreaking because you could see it was all you know it looked it looked really uh like kind of sad you know I mean like it was you can see Ozzy you can see the emotion on Ozzy's face as it was happening.
SPEAKER_03Yeah and I think that was the that was the only song that I thought maybe he struggled a bit with it was I think it's a more difficult song to sing. But I think um yeah so again considering everything that's going on though and fuck I mean it's it was just it was I I didn't mind that a bit.
SPEAKER_04Hey I mean hey it's this isn't uh 30 40 50 years ago anymore right it's uh it is what it is and uh I still loved it uh and so and so reading up on what Ozzy had to do so Ozzy's suffering from Parkinson's it's uh it's a super rare fast progressing form of Parkinson's so he had to take off like he had to stop taking all his meds for a month because it affected his speech it affected his vocals it affected you know his movements it affected his you know it affects him a lot like as to be a performer so he was going through a lot of pain like right when Ozzy hit the stage and they pushed the throne back he saw all this text and his stage hands run by and put like water and inhalers and all the shit right next to his stage so he could grab it and take a shot when he needed it. And after every performance he would take a shot of whatever a steroid for his vocals or whatever it was but yeah I saw that too yeah so but like the like the amount of guts and courage it took for him to do that was you know still blows my mind. Yeah um I you know like as you're watching the performance he tried to get up like you see him tried to get up but at the very beginning because I had to go back and rewatch it a couple times they actually strap him in so he can't actually stand.
SPEAKER_03So that's uh well yeah I I I couldn't tell if he was actually trying to do that either. I I didn't know initially that he was strapped in but I was just wondering if he was shifting in his chair before he might have been yeah uncomfortable too but but yes I I do I did I did notice that so um you know it's still it's again it's just so good. And and Bill Ward despite all the his health issues and squabbles with Sharon and maybe the rest of the band and stuff is just to come back and end things properly um like like he did. I mean he played great I mean it's just like it like he it's like he hasn't been away for for 20 years, right? And um it was just so cool.
SPEAKER_04I just the um let's talk about the guys so Bill Ward is living with severe heart disease Iomi is fighting prostate cancer. Butler Geezer Butler is struggling with the effects of long term COVID and of course Ozzy has the uh former Parkinson's yeah but you know on on that day on the final day they all stood together uh legends survivors and brothers you know they've been doing this since I don't know when was the first Sabbath album they've been there was 50 years 60 years 1969 1970 whatever yeah so to be able to watch what they did like not only was it like they still kicked ass it was it was awesome it was truly awe inspiring like to watch the the guys do their thing yeah and and you know I talked about some of the other performers and how old they are and stuff.
SPEAKER_03I mean uh Ozzy's the young no sorry geezer's the youngest at 75. Yeah uh Ozzy's 76 the other two are 77 as well so fuck I mean I they're getting they're getting up there and I know again they're their health issues. Tommy uh Tony doesn't look 77 and the way he plays guitars yeah he's gonna keep going yeah he's gonna keep going forever. Uh same thing with geezer it's just um yeah I don't know I don't know I just I just think about it all the time you know I we uh I think I mentioned we kind of briefly thought about going. I try to get tickets and yeah I know you mentioned that before and uh you know yes it would have been expensive um but it would have been so cool and my um somebody somebody came in to um where where my where the the wife works and he was wearing one of the t-shirts from the shop oh fuck he he went there by himself he he he got a I guess they put some tickets on sale after the fact like you know again once they set up the stage they can see what's what and and uh maybe add some more seats well I think he he bought a a shitty uh a shitty obstructed seat for like a hundred pounds and he flew over there a whirlwind 48 hour road trip I guess uh he couldn't see the stage because of some pillar or something like that but hey they had the big screens up and hey that's all you need I guess especially if you're at the back anyways you can you can't see the stage so so why the fuck not anyways hearing that story I I kinda you know as as expensive as as it would have been I kind of kicking my ass I didn't even try and go it would have been so much fun yeah and and obviously I don't know I I felt the same thing I mean but they're not my top tier band.
SPEAKER_04Do you know what I mean? Like I enjoy Aussie I enjoy sap I would do I would drop everything I had and to go see Metallica's final show. Do you know what I mean? Like if it was we're never fucking playing again this is it for doing it I'm done I put me in I'll pay 10 grand I'll go see the fucking gig like it doesn't it doesn't bother me um but to uh you know to be there and witness it and stuff but you know what and we've talked about this in the past and this goes back to what we've talked about and mentioned the future if a band was playing a show and they live streamed it for 20 bucks 30 bucks whatever the fuck it was even the city would you leave your house to go see the show because you can watch what's happening. So we essentially did that like we paid the money it broadcast to her house the quality was great the sound was decent for what it was and I also think that's why it was an hour late because I think they were doing on the fly mixing and trying to get a good mix out to us as we so we could experience it. Yeah um but you know so we kind of essentially just did it we paid the 30 bucks for the ticket and we watched it in our home so yes you you don't get the energy of the crowd and you don't get the you know the experience of being there or that you know back to the beginning t-shirt but um you get to watch it from your house and it was arguably the same I gotta watch it and I was watching it was just on while I was running around doing shit. And because it was a live stream I was able to pause it and then get to work and do a bunch of shit and then hit play and I watched the Metallica Ozzy and Sabbath set right after like back to back to back to back. So yeah uh and that's cool because you can pause it and do other shit you know so you're still paying for the ticket you're still being able to watch the show that you're able to watch but you're not paying you know you're not traveling halfway across the world to see the band. But if it's your favorite band you're kind of missing out kind of thing right so the the the 50-50 who-saw thing happening.
SPEAKER_03Yeah that was my final thought uh because yeah yeah as you said we've talked about that before and and it it was a perfect example of what we've chatted about where they should be making this you know especially for the larger festivals look at all the large festivals over in Europe especially uh the large metal festivals yeah even and um it's just like why can't they I I would I would do that if shit if there was a bunch of acts for 20 bucks 25 bucks 30 bucks whatever fuck I would do that again for sure. It's just yeah you know you you buy the ticket you can watch it live or sort of live I guess and then the ticket allows you to watch it for you know 40 up to 48 hours. So hey if you pause it or you miss it or whatever you can you still have time to watch it. Um yeah for things like the next door at the Commodore or something like that maybe I know it doesn't make as much sense but for these large things they've they've got to be considering this. You know it it's it can't be that much more expensive or difficult for them to make sure they've got everything in place so that they can do it. There would be fans who can't make it it's I don't think it would distract from people going to these shows especially the large festivals it would allow the fans who cannot go an opportunity to see their favorite performers. And uh they need to get on top of it. It's it's not not that I'm saying it's a way for them to make money but it's it is a way for you know it's more importantly it's a way for the fans to experience these things. Yeah and uh yeah they gotta get on top of it I think it's again it was so cool. It was a I have nothing bad to say other than Guns and Roses. Oh fuck yeah that was uh I Ozzy uh not Ozzy Axel you know every everybody everybody says Ozzy's getting old he sucks his sound is shitty and whatever and and that's not true but fuck Axl Rose just sounds so bad man it's their their Black Sabbath songs or their covers weren't too bad but you know fuck he sounds terrible he he he really does I'm sorry it's uh it's I I just would not I would not pay to go see Guns and Roses live again so they did uh what did they do terrible did they open they opened with It's Alright they opened with three yeah they opened with three covers I think didn't they uh four so I was looking so It's Alright Never Say Die Junior's Eyes Sabbath Bloody Sabbath which I thought was the best out of the four and then they did welcome to the jungle in Paradise City. Yeah I I yeah I just again I I don't want to be negative because overall the whole thing was good but it was I mean you you notice these things right away it's just yeah you know and I know it's not just me I I know other people were bitching and complaining about about how bad he's sounding I mean I complained about it when I saw that show at BC Play so many years ago.
SPEAKER_04Yeah sure it was great they played for three and a half hours or whatever but and except for a handful of songs he sucked back then and he still sucks today so um it sucks because I mean they they've they've the band itself is great great musicians um you know they've they've got some great music and uh it's it they've been around for shit they've been around themselves for almost four years and uh there's some really cool stuff there but his he has not aged well his vocals have not aged well so and that's too bad yeah so anyway it is what it is it is what it is but uh a great night of metal a great night uh celebrating the legacy of Black Sabbath and it was fucking super cool to witness it so it was absolutely yeah I really enjoyed it big fans big fans big fans over here and then I always go back and show people the photo of uh well we went black sabbat backstage and like that what a that was a whirlwind bullshit thing but I mean that's like what an experience to see those guys and uh at the time and meet them and shake their hands and just all that stuff.
SPEAKER_03Oh absolutely and thanks to you for doing that because again hey we we didn't pay for any of that and uh because I know some of the fans there they got some special things I guess for paying as much as they did but uh some some special merch and stuff but uh for what we had and saw and what we were allowed to do in that photo that's just classic that'll be with me forever. So it was really nice.
SPEAKER_04It was good good to be there good to good times great oldies. Alright let's do tunes because I have to go to fucking work. So uh I'm having tactical issues so Steven has to play all my shit so fucking we'll kick it off by talking about the Black Sabbath tribute Lamb of God released a professional cover of children of the grave and they Lamb of God in it and uh I think it sounds fucking fantastic. It does yeah I enjoy this uh it's they sound great yeah and Randy Randy's vocals are awesome um I'm I'm glad they they professionally recorded this yeah no it's fantastic because it sounds so good yeah it's uh that's a uh that's a great tune all of them are so good but this is awesome yeah and uh honestly it's one of the highlights of uh uh was one of the highlights of the night of them playing it and did you see when Randy was running around he fucking did his jump and bailed and did like a bad flight yes I did notice that oh shit but yeah it's uh I love Lamar God always have and hearing him play one of my favorite sap I mean everybody covers this stone sour covered this uh zombies covered this like everyone covers show of the grave but this is they took the song and kind of made it their own like that middle part it's all double kick and different solo and cool beats and what's really cool on this is the sound mix so find a flak version of this and turn it up loud because the mixing on the drums like because it's all drum fills at the beginning and the end listen to the listen to the mix on this it's it's fucking awesome. I'll check it out yeah it sounds good but just listening on just seeing it obviously and and then listening to this uh official audio version is pretty cool it's even cool yeah uh next on the list uh new deftones uh they have a new album coming out it comes out august 22nd uh the leadoff single is my mind is a mountain uh sounds like deft tones still kicks ass and I fucking love me some Deftton's uh I saw them last year in Seattle uh they're playing here in Vancouver on the 22nd the same day the album comes out but I won't be able to see that show because I'm seeing ZZ Top of the old man but I am seeing them six days later in the mighty city of Winnipeg uh so hopefully they play some new songs off the new album then but uh love me some Deftones what do you think of this uh really really good yeah like you said it's Deftones um the song is great looking forward to the rest of the album yeah um yeah you're you're doing some whirlwind tours here lately yeah well this is it this is all I got I'm not doing any traveling next year nothing after this yeah well you got a lot of shows lined up though too so not just not just this one but oh fuck I have nine concerts lined up in August what are you seeing there's Tool I know that Deftones so I got Lady Gaga in Seattle I'm going to see Shine Down with Bush I got nine and snails in Vancouver on the 10th I got Taj Mahal on the 11th in Vancouver then I'm back in the sea that would be sorry Taj Mahal would be cool.
SPEAKER_03Where is that at a Vogue at the Vogue yep because he's got a new album out too he does yeah it's kind of like a bluegrassy kind of album I uh yeah that's that's cool. I'm gonna have to listen to the album more and I it would probably be a really cool show.
SPEAKER_04Yeah old man's a big fan of Taj Mahal so we'll go see that right on uh the next day is Nine Snails in Seattle oh you're right too you're gonna see both yeah um the the Saturday the 16th is Creed yeah um then the 22nd is ZZ Top and then the 27th in Winnipeg is Deftones and then the 28th back in Vancouver when I arrive a Kingfish is coming back the guitar player the big uh oh okay so he's at the Commodore again so yeah it'd be the third time seeing him and I I love that guy can play a guy can tread so yeah that's eight shows or one two three four five six seven eight nine shows in August and I haven't seen nine shows since uh since the end of COVID. Oh man you gotta get on board and that's one month yeah yeah I I know it's I know there's still some stuff that I you know I kick my ass a little bit so I probably should have gone and I didn't and I don't know it is what it is I'm still looking I'm still considering some different things and like I said I was talking about the Queens of the Stone Age show yeah I'm still looking at nine inch nails um there's some tickets um I'm just wondering I actually I looked this morning at nine inch nails tickets there are a couple in row two in the back corner I just wonder if it's high enough to see over everybody that's that's the only thing I'm wondering about because those those might be decent seats and I think those are regular I think those are regular sale tickets those are not verified sales which I'm surprised are still available so I think they're about 250 bucks or 260 bucks which is starting to get lots but starting to get to be a bit but it's cheaper than everything else that's available that's sure it's just expensive I spent a fortune small fortune on the fucking shows I've seen but I bet it's uh I enjoy it I like the atmosphere a single man I'm going out maybe I'll find my wife out there I don't know you never know when you least expect it yeah um maybe at maybe a lady gaga if not maybe nine inch nails I'm hoping for a nine inch nails goth girl Vancouver if you're listening pick me up uh okay uh what else do I got this week uh new hailstorm so hailstorm played this song at the uh at the Black Sabbath back to the beginning thing it's called uh Rain Your Blood on Me off the forthcoming album I forget when that's released but um I like this song I thought this song was fucking super cool the performance uh the performance was awesome I really I love this and um you know I've I've never you've played a lot of Hailstorm before I like them obviously I'm very familiar with Lizzie Hale and the band uh I haven't listened to them a lot this performance was great and I think it's going to make it's gonna grow me into uh I guess a maybe a bigger fan so she's got a great voice yeah uh and and uh yeah this is great I enjoyed this yep so give that a give that a spin um and we talked about this earlier I don't know if you talked about this off air or on air but the Aussie ultimate sin somehow I missed that and uh so it came out February 22nd 1986 and um yeah so uh missed that one but this is a fucking song I looked it up on the YouTube and guess how many plays this has on the YouTube? Well I'm looking at it right now 7.2 million yeah well no that's the official video so the official song has 7.6 million so 14 million for the the ultimate song of the song I've never heard being an Aussie fan but uh but I go back to Lizzie Hill the when she covered this I was like what the fuck song is this I had to learn everything I could about the I'm like the ultimate sin where the hell has this song been my whole life so fuck I fucked that one up. You did I that surprises me for sure you did that shame shame shame um and the last one uh new mammoth mammoth is opening up for Creed August 16th um and I saw them in Seattle I don't know last December two December's ago that were great fucking show but uh their forthcoming album called The End comes out October 24th This is the second single off that album. Uh, and it's cool to see uh Wolf, Wolfgang playing all the instruments in the video. It's uh it's well done.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, he's he's a a talented guy for sure. I don't know if I like the song so much, but I mean, still, it's it's it's good to see him uh being busy, staying active, kind of carrying on from his dad. And um, yeah, I also noticed that he was here in Vancouver. I just didn't know that he was opening for Creed. So yeah. Um Creed, yeah. I I hey there's did you ever hear back to the back to the beginning? Um there was rumor, there were rumors around that Sharon kicked somebody off the tour or off the the the performance for that day because uh well it sounds like they wanted some money in a chair charity event, yeah. So did and she said she was gonna spill the beans when the show was over, and that never happened, as far as I know.
SPEAKER_04Yeah.
SPEAKER_03What what is do you know who who it is?
SPEAKER_04So I I saw an article, it was on the the Reddit. Um so no one knows who it was. Uh they're speculating it was Judas Priest, but it wasn't Judas Priest because the day before they released the Warpig single, which I think you have on your prep. Um there was a bunch of they people are saying it was Megadeth. But yeah, I can't there's no confirmation on that. There's no nothing, nothing on that one.
SPEAKER_03So uh lots of rumors for sure. I mean, I think they were even saying it was Wolfgang. Um and I don't think that's true either. I think he even shot that down, didn't he? Um I don't know for sure. Because um but yeah, it's it it's it kind of sucks. I mean, I I mean I think care Sharon maybe should have kept her mouth shut if she wasn't gonna tell us, I guess. Or um, or yeah, I don't know. I don't know. It just it just it sucks when you hear shit like that because the whole community got together, you know, for Aussie and for Black Sabbath and just kind of you know treated the fans to a special day. And if it's true that somebody wanted to be paid to be there, that's that sucks. And it's it, you know, if I found out it was one of my favorite bands that was doing that, I'd be pretty pissed off. So I don't know, maybe that's why she's not releasing it after all.
SPEAKER_04But so the big three are Molly Crew.
SPEAKER_03It was Molly Crew, yes. Yeah, Iron Maiden, maybe and I heard Myron okay, and I heard Iron Maiden got sh got that rumor got yeah squashed as well. So I don't know. It's yeah, so maybe Megadeth, maybe Molly Crewe. Um, yeah, who knows? Maybe the maiden, who knows?
SPEAKER_02Maybe I don't know.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, I know I know Bruce Dickinson and Sharon have not got along in the past. Well, a lot of people are pissed off at Sharon, but yeah, everyone's pissed off. Yeah, I don't I don't think it's Iron Maiden because I thought somebody shot that rumor down too, and I can't remember what was said about it. So I don't know. Anyway, yeah, I don't know. We'll see. We'll see if we'll see if Sharon finally opens up. So I the other last thing I want to uh say about all this is that about that performance, uh the back to the beginning is I hope that you know there's gonna there's photos, I there's some other behind-the-scenes footage and backstage footage. I hope there's gonna be a documentary on all of this. It would be really cool if somebody put something together. So I'll be watching for that. All right. Was that it for you? That's it. Yeah, uh no more tunes for you. Okay. Um, all right. I'll quickly whip through mine. I know you probably got to get going here. Oh, I got it. Um I got a good 15 minutes. Oh, right on. Right on. Well, this song you mentioned, Judas Priest and Warpigs. Fuck this song. Yeah, this is fucking good. Again, I'm such a Black Sabbath fan and a Judas Priest fan. I just one of my two favorites. I don't know, Black Sabbath's probably near the top, if not at the top for me. But Judas Priest is so awesome. And this video, I mean, I mean, they even got Glenn on board to do the video here and and record the song, and it's yeah, it sounds really good. Uh, is there something different here? Did they change up the song like uh like Lamb of God did for children of the grave? Well, probably not, but still, this is sounding alright. Yeah, I enjoy this. Rob sounds good. How old is Rob Helfer now? I don't uh because he's he is he must be as old as Ozzy. He's gotta be close, he's gotta be 73, 74. Let's Google it. Rob Helford is 73. 73. Okay, so a couple years behind Ozzy, but hey, they're they're a Birmingham band as well. Uh Judas Priest, Black Sabbath, kind of the two probably considered, even though timelines maybe doesn't say so, but you know, they're probably the two originators of heavy metal, of course. Um, I mean Judas Priest got their start. People don't know this. I I don't think their first album came out until '74, Rock A Rolla. Well, uh, Judas Priest has been around, I think, at least since 1969. Like they had they they you know, they are in that same category for sure as Black Sabbath. Yes. So um anyway.
SPEAKER_04Well, them Sabbath and Maiden, fucking, you know.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, when did Maiden came out uh kind of more in the mid-70s, I guess. Um, they formed in 75, 76. Their first album wasn't till 1980, but still they're they're so they came a little bit later, but but um yeah, still these all these all these British bands and heavy metal, it's just amazing. Awesome. Good stuff. Uh, it is, it is okay. Uh, Queens of the Stone Age. Uh, this was a you know, I saw this, it was played on Jimmy Kimmel live, but it's not a live performance. Um, but this is an acoustic song, Where's My Volume here? This is uh this is their one of their performances from that uh Alive in the Catacombs. So this is songs called Running Joke and Paper Machete. Uh Paper Paper Mache, I guess it is. It's not paper machete. Paper mache, right? Paper mache. I don't know. Anyway, um I'm still looking for this video. I I don't think it's being I know you can you can buy it and watch it online. I don't think there's only five songs or something from the performance, isn't there? I don't know. So you can buy it uh and watch it online, but I think there is going to be a um I think it's out for the regular streaming services, or I read it's gonna be released by Criterion Um in August, I believe. So we might see it more widely available, I guess, um at some point. I hope so. Yeah. I'm um I you know, I I haven't listened to the other songs yet, uh, which I need to do. So I don't know if you have or not, but um, I know they did um uh fuck.
SPEAKER_04Um I don't know. I I saw it like someone was streaming. I I I can't find it anywhere. I I haven't paid for it yet. I probably should because I really enjoy the the quats out, but yeah, I don't know. I think yeah, you're right. They only did the five songs, and I'm just googling it. They got Running Late, the Paper Machete one, they got Klepazia, Villions of Circumstance, uh Satire Up Your Future, and I Never Came. So only five songs, but they're not even like they're they're bangers, you know. Like, I don't know. Yeah, like where's my God of the Sun?
SPEAKER_03Yeah, like well, they're all new songs, I think, that they maybe wrote and performed for this this special seams, anyways. I don't know. Um because even the online, even the stream or even to watch it online is pretty reasonable. I think you get a documentary plus the movie for what is it, 14 bucks? Or is it more than that? I don't know, it's pretty cheap. I should just do it too.
SPEAKER_04So I also thought they were separated. I think they're two different websites. I think you have to pay for the documentary and then the for the performance. Oh, really?
SPEAKER_03Oh, okay. But I could be wrong. I was I was just there to have a quick peek too. I didn't uh pay close enough attention. Yeah. Um all right, Paradise Lost. I've played much Paradise Lost in the past. Uh I've seen them uh too at the Rickshaw. Uh this is uh this is a new song called Serpents on the Cross. Um new album's coming out, of course. Yeah, so I don't know when it's when is this album out? Um I don't know. I'm not sure. Anyways, they they some of their stuff is really gothic sounding, and I think this is one of those songs, the the vocals. I mean it's it's kind of heavy metal, doom metal. This song sounds more like goth metal, uh, if you want to do the categorizing thing. I don't know. Yeah. Anyways, great, great song as well. I I do like Paradise Lost. They've been around for a long time. This band has been I don't know when was the first Paradise Lost album? Do you know? I have no idea. It's been a long time though, so they're still going. But good stuff. Great stuff. Putting out some, yeah, putting out some great tunes. Um Year of the Goat. I think I've probably played some Year of the Goat too. Um this is uh, although this is a although they have not put out any music in six years, so maybe I haven't played any. Yeah, possible. They are uh Swedish band. Um just good old 70s sounding rock and roll, really. That's it's uh it's just that got that retro sound to it, right? The the guitars, this music, the vocals. Pretty good stuff. I like this, and uh looking forward to the new album.
SPEAKER_04Would you look at that? You have not played any year of goat on a podcast. I haven't. You have not. Oh wow, okay.
SPEAKER_03What have you done? Well, I changed that and uh yeah, for sure. Good tune. Great tune. Oh, the tune is called uh oh, I don't even know how to pronounce that. Alucarta. Yeah, it's on Napon Rec Napalm Records albums out September 12th. Good stuff. Great. And of course, I'm gonna finish with uh you know, I'm not even a fan of Jack Black. Uh I mean Tenacious D, I better say that. I'm not a fan of Tenacious D. I just I don't know, that's nothing for me. It really doesn't. Um Jack Black has done some cool things though, and you know, some movies and stuff, and this video is is great. That's cool. This this cover of Mr. Crowley is just awesome. Um yeah, I mentioned the kids, uh Tom Morello's son and Scott Ian's son. Just kids still, and the way they perform sound so good. Good song, no, Mr. Crowley, one of my favorite Aussie tunes. That first Aussie album, I know he's put out a lot of music uh throughout his entire career, not just with Black Sabbath. Um that first album is still probably my favorite with Randy Rose, all those great songs. I don't think there's a bad song on the album. There there isn't. It's just so good. Um yeah, I I just it's just so it's so good.
SPEAKER_04Uh what's that Blizzard of Oz, right? Yes, it is, yeah. Uh I don't even remember what's on that. Fucking let's Google it. Uh we had uh well, I don't know, Crazy Train, Goodbye Romance, The D, which is that acoustic song by Rhodes, Suicide Solution, Mr. Crowley, uh, No Bone Moves, Revolution, and Steal the Night Away. All those songs are all those, yeah. He plays all those songs live. We got one, two, three of those, so four of those songs on that solo night. Like on the like Yeah. So they're still they're still great, yeah. Only song we didn't get that was on this album was Mamma I'm Coming Home, and that was off of what? Uh Bark of the Moon or No Rest of the Wicked. Uh no.
SPEAKER_03No, yeah. No, uh shit. What album was that from?
SPEAKER_04Uh um No More Tears? No More Tears.
SPEAKER_03No More Tears, that's it. Yeah, that's it, yeah. Because he wrote that with uh he wrote that with Lemmy, didn't he? Yep. Yes. Um yeah, Revelation is a is kind of a hidden gem on that album for me. Revelation Mother Earth. It's um it's you know, it's just starts off slow. You've got some some uh some keyboards and stuff in there, and just hearing Randy play guitar once the song kicks in, and that solo in that song is just so good. Um yeah, really, really cool. It's it is my it's my favorite Aussie album, Aussie solo album for sure. Yeah, that's badass. Yeah. Uh that's all I got. That's all I got. I wanted to mention one thing. It uh got into my prep really late. Uh Rip uh Mick Ralphs passed away last week or the week before, I think. Uh passed away at 81. For those that don't know, Mick Ralphs was in Mott the Hoople, and then later Bad Company. Bad Company is just such a such a great, great band. Uh, I honestly, my one of my buddies who we talk music back and forth quite a bit, he actually sent a couple Mott the Hoople tunes, which I never maybe I heard at some point, but it's been a long time. I don't remember them. Uh, it's just that yeah, the Mott the Hoople stuff is just really amazing. Um, some good music there that I'm going to have to dig deeper into as well. So anyway, that sucks. Uh, another one gone. Uh Mick Ralphs, yeah. Poor one out, poor one out. Yes, for sure. Uh, what else you got? We've talked a little bit about some uh movies and TV, but I know you got a good one.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, fuck I I've watched a shit ton. Like I've I've I went ballerina's out, you gotta watch Ballerina. Uh saw the new Jurassic World, saw 28 years later.
SPEAKER_03Uh how was sorry, how was how was 28 years later? Because I love the first one, especially, then 28 weeks later, which was which was okay. Uh, but yeah, I'm looking forward to this. Uh was it good? No, I give it a solid six out of ten. Okay. Well, that's not bad. It's not bad, it could be better.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, I was expecting way more, it would have been cooler. Um, I saw the new Superman a couple days ago. That was fantastic. Watched that. Uh, went and took my nieces to Lilo and Stitch. That was cool. It was the Disney animation live action world thing. Um, I went and saw F1 in IMAX, and the whole movie is shot with IMAX cameras, and that movie is fucking awesome. Same director is uh Top Gun Maverick. So I grabbed Pitts in it, and it's a it's a super cool little racing movie. And uh went and saw the new mission impossible, whatever, a month ago, a month and a half ago. And that's again, Tom Cruise doing Tom Cruise things. That was fucking super cool. And of course, we talked about finishing Andor Andor season two, so that was uh that was well done. But a lot of stuff I need to watch. There's this movie called Head of State came out with uh John Cena and Edris Alba, and uh Old Guard 2, which I'm gonna watch with Miss Charlie Stare on. So that's on the list.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. How was the first one? Because I've never seen that. I guess if you want to see the second one so bad, it must be must be pretty good.
SPEAKER_04No, watch, and that'll look great in your 4K set, so you can do a double header. Okay, okay. Sounds good. Um, I didn't watch The Last of Us season two yet. Uh, I've played the game, I know what happens, but have you finished that yet?
SPEAKER_03Yeah, oh yeah, for sure. We finished that because we were watching as they were being released or whatever. So um, so great. I I'm disappointed it was only four uh seven episodes. Yeah. Um, because again, not knowing the story in the game and stuff like that, uh, you know, I don't know if there was more that they could have done with it. But obviously, it seems like there is uh going to be a season three. I don't know if it's been officially announced, but it the way it ended, it seems like you know, they've they've they've got more of a story to tell. So give us more.
SPEAKER_04Give us well, I mean, yeah, there's way like I haven't seen it, so I can't uh I don't know what it is. Uh, but there's a full I thought I've read online, there's this full thing with Abby going on that didn't wasn't included, so that might be the season three stuff.
SPEAKER_03Oh, yes, yes, I read that somewhere as well. Yeah, yeah, for sure. So um yeah, so that would be uh that would be an interesting story, I think. And um I did get a little bit tired of of uh the romantic side of things of uh of what's her name, um who's the kid? Uh Ellie the main character, Ellie. Yeah, I got tired of that story a little bit. Um I will give much away, even though you know the story from the game. But um, anyways, I I you know I I think the first season was better. Oh of course. I will I will say that. Um but uh anyways, still looking forward to season three. Hopefully there is one.
SPEAKER_04I hope so. I mean it did so well. Um what else have you been watching? I saw that uh uh yeah. Well, I mentioned the two movies on the new TV.
SPEAKER_03Yes. Uh I also watched the uh even though I had seen well, at least I thought I saw one to five of the Final Destination series or franchise. Uh so I rewatched all of those. Some of them just I'm sure I watched them. Some of them just seem to be maybe it's been a long time and I forgot a lot of it, but um, anyways, it was kind of good to revisit that entire franchise leading up to the new one, which is Final Destination 6. I don't think that's the official title, but um cool movies. I just I mean I mean I mean it's all about death and dying, but I guess they're they're just reinventing different ways you could get wasted, right? This is crazy. It's pretty it is pretty crazy, but uh uh some of it's you know some of it is is creative and pretty wild for sure what they've done. And uh I I just I don't know. I enjoy movies like that, just some sentless senseless violence, and uh because that's really all it is. So sometimes it's all you need. Yeah, uh two TV shows that I want to watch. One is called The Valhella Murders. I I think it came out a couple three, four years ago. It's an Icelandic uh TV crime series. I've I've really been enjoying the Scandinavian um art TV shows. Yeah, just um again, most of them are are thrillers, crimes, some sci-fi stuff, maybe there in some of them, but uh been really enjoying some of that. Um the other one is the pit. Uh, I don't know if you're that familiar with it. I am not. Uh apparently some of the characters from the old ER TV series, I don't know if this is true. Apparently, some of them are now in the pit. Anyways, the pit is a is the name of uh an emergency ward at a hospital in Pittsburgh. Okay. Uh hence the pit. And what it does is it's um it goes to the back to the days of 24, you know, with Jack Bauer, um Kiefer Sutherland, where each episode is an is an hour of the day. So it starts at 7 a.m. 7 a.m. in in the emergency ward, and there are actually 15 episodes, so it's not a 12-hour shift, they actually stretch it out 15 hours, and uh so again an hour per episode. Uh but basically just all of the shit that goes on in an emergency department uh in the course of a day, and it's pretty fucking wild. It's um it's pretty is it's it's quite realistic, it's um it's pretty sad in some parts. It's it's it's life, man. It really is, and that's why it's really good. Um so so again, if you can get through some of that real life stuff that's going on, uh, because this shit really does happen every single day. Yes, uh, so if you can get through some of that heartbreaking tragedy stuff, uh it's it's it's really well done. Uh great acting. Um yes, it it not only talks about some of the shit that comes through the emergency department, but some of the it, you know, of course, there's some story. There are there are stories there. There are people have their personal lives and stuff like that. So, you know, they they throw some of that in there too. But it's it's really good, it's really well done. So I think um it's not I didn't think it would be my type of show. Okay. It's just something I I heard it was good, but I wasn't sure that I was gonna watch it. But yeah, I'm glad I did. It turned out really well.
SPEAKER_04Uh, and you have that paramedic background, so does it pretty much does it mimic it or is it kind of similar?
SPEAKER_03I I think it does, yeah. I mean, sure, sure. You watch some of them doing CPR and you know that's you know, you're not doing it right. Yeah, yeah. Um you know, so there's some yeah, I mean, there's some stuff, but but but but you know, aside from all that, you know, a lot of the yes, I I would say, I mean, hey, there's even some childbirth footage there, and it's real childbirth footage. I mean. This is the again, this is real shit, man. And um so so it's um you know the blood and the and the bullshit and and some of the people that come through that door. Um yeah, it's pretty realistic.
SPEAKER_04So yeah, well worth watching. It's on uh see the thing, so it just finished season one. I hate watching uh season if it's not about three seasons deep because you you get invested in it and then it gets canceled. But it's it says it's already been ahead of ahead of season two. Someone left the show, so it's um so uh it has a promise. So I'll watch it when it gets up to season three.
SPEAKER_03See, but see, but I I know what you're saying, and it's really disappointing when these networks do that, but at the same time, some series are only one season long, anyways. Exactly. And you know, uh they could have I mean, I'm glad there's going to be a season two, but they could have ended this um with only one season. Gotcha. Like it, like it's because it basically covers the day in the in the life of an emergency room. Um so I think they tied up all the strings and stuff like that that were happening throughout the show. Yeah. Um so so I I know what you're saying, but at the you know, at the same time, it's just hey, it's it's entertaining, it's still worth worth worth it to see it and watch it, yeah, for sure.
SPEAKER_04So I just googled it.
SPEAKER_03I would I would check it out.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, they are filming the second season, so we uh it might be worth watching.
SPEAKER_03Okay. Sounds good. So let's see. It got yeah, it got pretty big reviews, I think, and it was pretty popular and and and positive for the most part. So not surprised it's we're gonna have another season, so that's cool.
SPEAKER_04My body is ready. I will get on it. I have so much shit. I'm so fucking behind on life.
SPEAKER_03I know it's just like so much and so little time.
SPEAKER_04Uh I think that's why I like going to movies so much because it forces me to stop and enjoy the movie, and then I can move on with my life, even though I'm paying $100 if I can watch a show. It's still it's still all right.
SPEAKER_03And I guess that's the the opposite for us. So that's why we seem to watch more TV than we watch movies, right? Where so we can we can we can eat these smaller bite-sized pieces of content and then carry on the next day. Whereas whereas I know what you mean, you go to the theater for two hours and and then you forget about it, but um, whereas we stay home, yeah. So we don't mind watching continuing to watch uh you know the same contents or the same series in this case over the course of a week or a couple weeks or whatever. So no, that's cool.
SPEAKER_04Um, yeah, so and we talked about shows.
SPEAKER_03So do you have any I you're going to Neil Young, right? So we're going to Neil Young. Yeah, that's all I've got tickets for. Uh, again, there's lots of stuff coming up. There's clutch. I think there's clutch is sold out as far as I know, but I think you can get still some reasonably priced tickets. Yeah. Uh always a good show. Um nine inch nails, so I'm thinking about that. I would love to go see Dozer. Dozer is a stoner band from Sweden. I believe they're from Sweden. They've been around for a good 20, 25 years. Uh, some good bands opening for them, including local uh Lichinga. Nice. Um Neil Young, we're seeing. I still I keep toying with Viagra Boys. Um, haven't checked tickets. I know that first show was sold out. The second show, I don't know if there's still tickets. I just haven't even checked. Uh Mud Honey is apparently sold out. Uh that's always a good show. Uh that's later in September, mid-September. Yeah, so there's some stuff, you know, um I'm keeping an eye on, but again, just Neil Young so far. And you're doing the Saturday or the Monday show? Saturday.
SPEAKER_04Cool.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. Yeah. So that's that should be alright. That was the first one that was announced, so we got tickets for that right away. Yeah, good on you guys. That's badass. Yeah.
SPEAKER_04That'll be good. Fuck yeah. There's again, there's so many shows you can't see them all. There's more I want to see, but again, we can't see them all. We're just getting fucked. Yeah. The Conline Crush show would be super cool, but I just saw them open for uh who the fuck did the Conaline Crush open for? I'll never remember.
SPEAKER_03Uh I don't, yeah, I didn't I didn't know that they were still uh performing actually, so it's it's cool. They're still around. I like the early stuff, especially. Oh yeah, and it still sounds fucking fantastic. Sounds sounds great, yeah, for sure. And local band Crystal Pistol. Well, like a Controlline Crush, where are they from? Are they here in Vancouver? Yeah, that's what I thought. Yeah. Uh Crystal Pistol, local band, yeah. So um, yeah, that would be cool.
SPEAKER_04I'm just trying to figure who Connelly because I I saw them recently, I just don't remember where. Uh yeah.
SPEAKER_03I've seen them shit, I don't know. I've seen them three or four times as well, but not not recently. I don't know when I last saw them. I don't know either. It's been a long time, I think.
SPEAKER_04I gotta look it up and I won't find it because I'm unorganized. But uh, do you have anything else you want to talk about? I think that's it, man. It's good to catch up. Well, we apologize for the delay, but there'll be another one because the next time I can record is I don't even know when. So we'll have to talk about that. We'll take this one offline.
