ACDC Highlights And Age Reality

Okay. I was super stoked the last time because we were both headed to AC/DC. What did you think of AC/DC a couple weeks ago?

I enjoyed the show, man. It was pretty good. Um I uh uh I uh you know this the set list was awesome. They played uh uh tunes from throughout their catalog. Oh you know, obviously they've been around so so long that maybe they missed some songs that we may have wanted to hear. But I everybody has their favourites too, and some of them they probably I don't know if they've ever played. I mean, again, it's such a vast catalog, so um I I enjoyed it. Brian's voice kind of slipped at times, but hey man, the the guy's how old is Brian Johnson? He's he's in his 80s now, right? I think 78. 78. Okay, that's close enough. I mean, he's had vocal issues uh in the past. I mean, even for a while there, they thought that maybe he would never be able to sing again. So yeah, uh considering all that, he's he did really well. And uh the rest of the band was good because again, everybody else is new, right? Everybody else is new except for Angus, of course. And Angus was on fire. Angus Oh yeah, he rips. Angus just you know, you could tell he's getting older too because he took a little bit longer to get started. But once but once he did, I mean, sound wise he was great, like throw, but you know, he didn't move around a lot uh at initially, and then you know, half hour into the show he just started tearing across the stage as he normally does, or almost like he normally does anyway. So um, but sounded great. I I I enjoyed that. Um I'm glad we went because we may not ever see them again. And I mean this really could be their last tour, right? I mean, we always say that with all these bands that have been around forever, but I think I really do think these guys are uh I think that's I think it's close to the end for them, yeah. Yeah, for sure. So um anyway, yeah. What what are your thoughts? What any highlights? Uh what did what did you enjoy the most?

Let's go. I was uh I AC/DC as a band's uh awesome. The I thought it was a great show. I saw it from the pit, but I got some things to say about the pit. Are you ready? I don't think you're ready. Uh I'm ready for anything, man. Let's just do it. Here we go. To the dyed hair bitch, absolutely coked out of her mind who tried to pick a fight with me, fuck you. To the everyone throwing their arms up in the air, hoping 80-year-old men who will see you, fuck you. To the guys who started a mosh pit in the middle of everyone and this is not a mosh pit show, fuck you. To the people smoking in the pit, fuck you. To the guy clapping with his hands in the air the whole entire night going full crazy, fuck you. To the people who rushed the stage the second the band started, fuck you. Honestly, it was the one these guys are so old in the pit. It was one of the worst pit crowds I've ever been in. And I've seen a lot of shows from the pit. I think it's the adults who can't party anymore because the craft beer and the weed is way stronger than they're used to. So they gotta quit doing the drugs, slow down on the booze. If you can't handle your shit, stay out of the pit. I'm making that a shirt.

Go to a show, have fun, dance, lose your voice, just don't be an asshole for everyone else trying to enjoy their time. Having saying that, it was still really good because all these guys and stuff, they rushed to stage, and there were so many fights because you would get you know, the people hardcore there would be at the front of the line and they'd get through, and these were like big native dudes who were just throwing down as people were trying to get in. Like it was it was cut, it cut like it was bad, man. Like, I've been in some nasty pits, and this was an AC/DC sh show. Like for an AC/DC sh show, you wouldn't expect this shit, but people were just losing their mind. I'm like, holy shit. Wow. Um, so after we got a good position, so what'd they open with? They opened with uh if you want blood, you got it, back in black. Uh I remember Demon Fire was awesome. Uh, but then um Shot Down in Flames is kind of when everything came to a head. And I don't really remember Thunderstruck because that's when everybody was throwing hands. So after we moved the Switch positions, have a drink on me, kind of everything settled down and we're kind of good to go. So um, but yeah, it was a it was a weird, it was a weird pit. Not gonna ruin the time though, because it was the first time seeing AC/DC from the pit, and I got some pretty cool shots. Uh just to take a photo, Brian's right there, Angus is right there, he's doing the duck walk. Like it was fucking awesome. But um lot of a lot of fucking weird people in that pit, man. And but tickets aren't cheap. Like they're 400 bucks each, and for come down and lose your mind kind of like that is it was it was just a little just a little weird.

You know, um uh well it's not you know it's not a surprise that you are you know you you went through all that, I guess. Because I mean we were so for that show, we were um section 410. So it's kind of uh towards the back, but we were we were row A. So we were front row on the balcony. Oh awesome. So we I mean we're still far away, right? Um but I mean there were still decent seats. Um we didn't see obviously all that shit going on once the lights went down. We didn't know what was happening in the pit there like that. But um the you know, uh around us, I think the crowd was fairly well behaved. We didn't have any any issues. Um but you could tell there were people young and old there, you know, lots of lots of parents with their kids. Lots of lots of yeah, absolutely, lots of different generations, uh old people, young people, kids, uh, you know, and all that's really cool. So I think that for this show we we didn't mind it too much, but but I'll I'll I'll I'll I'll leave

Guns N' Roses Crowd Complaints

I'll go to this, I guess. Uh we went to Guns N' Roses last week as well. And I don't know if you ended up going to that show. We went, you know what, we went to both of these shows last minute. I bought tickets off StubHub last minute, day before type thing. Uh I think for AC/DC our tickets were um were for the pair they were 400 bucks, which is not so bad being on fro first row balcony, like we were. That's awesome. Uh for Guns N' Roses, we got uh last minute again. Uh you know what? They were they were like uh maybe a half dozen seats down from where they were for AC/DC. So um again, front row balcony. These ones were $200 for the pair. So, you know, I think we I think we did pretty good. Um anyways, AC/DC was a problem. AC/DC was so bad uh for various reasons that I'm done with these uh stadium shows. Uh I I'm done. I I I really am. I it's just too many people, too expensive, uh, you don't you've got a shitty view, sometimes the sound isn't great. Uh I'm I'm done. I I I really am. I just you know, I just it was good to to see these concerts, but I'm done. Uh and you know, you're gonna run it again, you're gonna run into these shitty people, whether it's at a small venue or these large stadiums. Um but but it just it's it was just such a turnoff, man. For AC for for Guns and Roses, we had these drunk assholes right behind us. They couldn't fucking sing, they were trying to sing, they were it was so distracting. Um they were, of course, you know, loaded. Uh couple young guy younger guys beside us were vaping. Um, you know, and uh, you know, one of them was telling uh another person behind them that oh he's still single and blah blah blah. And well, I wonder why, asshole, because you're a fucking idiot. Um yeah, you know, it was just it was it was a weird crowd for Guns N' Roses. It was um I I don't I don't know. The these metal shows used to be really good. Of course, we were all younger at the time, too. The metal the metal shows were really cool. Everybody was having, you know, sure there were assholes back then too, but it was it was it was just seemed different. It seemed like everybody was still having fun, but still for the most part, respectful. You know, the people, you just look at the people and they are, you know, they're they're metal heads, they're decked out, they're looking great, and all this stuff, you know, guys and girls. And then today, when you go see when we saw this show, everybody's like uh 40 years old, but yet they're going on fucking 70. Like like they're fucking harsh, man. Like they're really bad. And they're when they're loaded, they're it makes things even worse. And it was just it was just awful. I mean, hey, I'm getting old too, man, but I I just uh at least I uh I know I don't look like that and I know I don't behave like that. Like like that, it was just it was just brutal. It really is, and it was just a it really it really turned me off again. And it's just you know, I'm already on this fucking kick where I'm limiting the number of shows I go to and I'm already upset about all the bullshit that goes on all the time. And it's uh it's just ruins my experience. And this just this just you know, again, I've been going to more shows lately, but it this just solidified my my reasoning for just being pissed off and not wanting to go. Um, anyways, uh to the show itself, Black Crowes opened that show and they started like basically right on time at 6 30. That fucking stadium was almost empty still, like, and that's a shame, man. That is number one, why is Black Crowes opening for Guns N' Roses? Um number two, even if they are, you know, sure there's big tours with with either either act could be a headliner, but why did the Black Crowes get like 40 minutes and nine songs? And here Guns N' Roses plays for three hours. Like, what the fuck is wrong with that, man? There's there's something wrong with that. Uh really, there really there is. If you look at the record sales, yeah, maybe maybe Guns N' Roses, despite their minimal albums that they've put out over the years, really. You know, they've been around for almost have they been around for almost 40 years now? Holy shit. Yeah, that's that is true. You know, it's been almost 40 years, but the Black Crowes have been around for almost as long uh as long. They've been more proficient or prolific with their with their album releases. Uh sure some of them maybe weren't all that great, but you know, they've they've probably sold a ton of albums too and made tons of money. Uh I just don't understand why what's the what why the difference? Because you know what? The Black Crowes were fucking awesome. I had seen I've seen them before. We've seen them at the Vogue before, which is really Vogue or no, the Orpheum maybe. Uh, and it was just an incredible performance back then, and they just sounded great this time. You know, sure it's BC Place, but they sounded awesome. The songs were great. Um and there was nobody fucking there to see them. That's what's really sad. There was nobody there to see them, and that's and that's bullshit. You know, this band is is been around for 40 years almost as well, and they're playing to a fucking empty audience or an empty empty stadium. And that that's that just pisses me off. Like, I I don't know who does that bullshit.

Yeah, either do I. I mean, is there so how was GNR? Was it worth was it worth seeing? We all hear things about Axel's voice. He's kind of up and down for different songs depending on the song. I mean, you go see this like seeing Slash is I think the draw for the GNR shows. But was it uh was it worth seeing? Would you recommend? Would you see him again? Like if it was a a controlled environment, what would you do?

I I had said last time we went through this, uh I think it was back in 2017. Or when when were they through here last when I don't know we when I saw him at BC Place? I think it was 2017.

Um, and that was a three-plus hour show, and I said at that time I'm done with them. I don't want to see him again because I thought at that time I thought Axel was pretty bad. I I I I thought his voice was shitty. Yeah, there were some good points, but overall his voice was shitty, he looked shitty. Uh this time he I think he's in better shape. I think he looks better, or maybe he's just had more surgery, I don't know. But um, and there were times this time when um he was pretty good. Some of the songs were decent. I think overall he wasn't too bad, but then I don't have the set list in front of me, but I know the I know the exact point where he just fucking that was it. It was it was coma. It was the song coma from one of the use your used the illusion albums. Uh I think it's I forget which one it's on, one or two. Anyway, um that song at the end, especially. I don't know, his voice was just fucking shot. And that was more than halfway through the show. I think we ended up listening to a couple more songs and we decided to get the hell out of there. Uh we missed the Black Sabbath covers that they that they normally do. Uh we probably should have stuck around for that, but yeah, otherwise, otherwise I was done though. Like we were we were there early at 6 before 6 30, like I said before Black Crow started, and by this time it's already 10 o'clock, and we've been sitting around for over three hours. I was just done. I couldn't, yeah, and then of course the fucking assholes around us. I just like that's enough, man. I'm out of here. So we beat the rush, got out of there, missed a couple well, probably a half dozen songs or something like that. But um, yeah, that's fucking two BC play shows in like two weeks or whatever. And that's that's that's enough for me. I'm done. So what you're saying is you're not going to the Foo Fighters and Queens of the Stone Age? Absolutely not. No. I'm not uh you know, I'm not a big enough fan of the Foo Fighters. Uh, and it's probably not the best place to see Queens of the Stone Age. It really isn't. We're gonna talk about them a little bit later. Um, but um I I I I would I would like to see Queens of the Stone Age again. Um and we'll get into that later too. But uh yeah, I won't be going to that show.

Yeah, no, it's uh it's a it's a weird, it's a weird concert, uh, weird concert vibe going on, but uh you know, all in all, I think the experience is still pretty good depending on where you go. Like you're going to the Commodore soon, aren't you?

Uh I'm going to see no I'm going to see Elder and Blackwater Holy light. That's at the Rickshaw. That's in a couple weeks. Uh, so that should be really good. And then the only other I've got a couple things that I'm interested in, but the only other ticket is Rush, and that's at Rogers Arena. So yeah. I I expect to run into some assholes there too, because that band, of course, has been around for for fucking 50 years, 50 plus years, and um there's gonna be some old geezers there making asses of themselves. So, yeah, anyways. Uh hopefully that's a better one. Um yeah, it's it's rush, right? We are looking forward to it. It should be pretty good.

I'm surprised that that uh I'm usually skeptical about StubHub and I I uh Yeah, I never yeah, I think we did pretty good. I I think those tickets normally were a lot more a lot more money than what we paid. So yeah, uh so that was alright.

Are you going to that uh Trivium in Flames Orbit Culture show? Did you see that? It's the December uh December 8th, I think, at the UBC Thunderbird Arena.

Oh, I did not see that because I was looking at what other shows might be coming. I was doing that yesterday and I never noticed that one.

So that's that's kind of my next metal show. Um but I hate that. Like again, Rogers Arena, Pacific Coliseum, at least are easy to get to. This UBC arena here for us sucks. Same with Abbas First, Abbotsford is tough to get to. Yeah, it's just so far. Um at least there's good parking in Abbotsford. This UBC one, like once you're there, it's like it is garbage. Like, there's nowhere to park. There's one parkade with one exit out. So when you leave, it takes you like two hours to get out of the parkade. Like, it's it's such a pain in the ass. I might end up Ubering that one because like it's just uh it just sucks. But uh a big fan of Trivium and In Flames, and they were here like last year or maybe two years ago. Uh Trivium did a they played one of their albums in its entirety. I forget what it's the ascending, I don't know. Maybe they and then In Flames played the Commodore, and I mean obviously the Commodore's the greatest spot to see a show. I still haven't been to the Commodore this year for a show, and it's very unlike. Yeah, yeah. It might be 54-40. A bunch of friends kind of want to see them, so I I might uh might tag them for tag along for that. I've never seen 54-40 live. Seriously, Canada's own, yeah. Well, maybe for some like promo thing or in studio or something like that, but I don't actually remember going to see a 54-40 show.

Are they doing the usual October shows? Uh they always do two or three shows beginning of October, I think. That's right, yeah. Yeah, yeah. That's kind of cool. They they still do that. Um oh yeah, I've seen them, you know, obviously in the studio they've done lots. They did a studio one-on-one up in Whistler one time, which was cool. Uh, but I've seen them at the Commodore uh, you know, a few times, two or three, four times, whatever. So it's always a good show.

But I have yet to go. I need to get to the uh I need to get to the Commodore Ball in this year because I'm missing out.

Yeah, and then like I went um during the FIFA stuff, I walked around and we watched one of the county games at the Commodore. But I haven't seen a show there, like a a musical show, so yeah.

I'm trying to think of what I don't know that I've been there myself. Of course, I haven't been to many shows, but um I haven't I I can't think of anything this year either at the Commodore. I did notice just actually yesterday I saw that sleep is. Playing in the Commodore September 20th. So uh I was you know what I was briefly considering about you know going to that, but I I don't know. I probably won't because the next night is Elder and Blackwater Holy light. I'm too old to see two shows in two nights, so um and and I actually and I didn't know until I you know what I didn't I didn't know about this tour. I didn't even know that Sleep put out a new album. It just came out, I think. I didn't I didn't even know about it. But I looked into it some more and um Matt Pike isn't uh part of the band. Uh they've got some other guitarists there. Uh but you but you know what, that that aside, it's probably it's still you know, we're gonna talk more about sleep later too, but um uh it would probably still be a pretty good show. Uh you know, absolutely. They've got Dale Crover on from from Melvin's on drums now. Um so that's really cool. That guy just gets involved in everything. It just seems like he's never gonna stop either. He's been around for so long doing so many things.

I only got a couple. I got uh the Foo's coming up, yeah. I'm gonna go see uh Daughter Grohl as well. Um in October, I got the Metallica shows, obviously the big one, and that trivia metal show is coming up. So there's only four left on the docket. Maybe 54-40, who knows? That's uh yet to be determined. So possibly five, but I'm way down from a couple years. I did like 47 shows, I think, last year, two years ago.

Yeah, no kidding. Um but there are a couple, there are a couple here. Um I'm looking at my list now and it's probably far from complete, but you know, I'm looking at like Gary Numan's coming again. It seems like he comes through every year, so yeah, uh, but that's always a good show. Well, at least the one time I've seen him anyway. Uh Jon Spencer is coming through at the Rickshaw in November. Uh I know a lot of people are trying to go to the Smashing Pumpkins show, but I don't know if I really care. I don't know. I'm sure it's I I've never seen them, but I just I don't know if I'll bother with that. Yeah, there's a couple, there's a handful of other shows here. That's probably all right.

Uh we have Gwar and Mac Sabbath coming through Vancouver. Yeah, I saw that. I I've never seen I've never seen Mac Sabbath, and I saw Gwar pretty drunk at one of the shows at uh the forum when they were spraying everyone, so I don't really remember it too well. And they got that new singer lady, I forget her name. Oh, okay. Um, but uh it could be cool. Like I I'm on it. I I'm still thinking about it, but yeah, this is enough time of the day sometimes, you know, and that's how one of the why it's one of the reasons why we're called the old men. We're starting to really be picky and choosy of what's what's coming through these days.

Website Move And Hosting Headaches

I think you're doing more work than I am, but uh we redid all of our podcasts, websites all redesigned. We've got a new fucking logo. Um yeah, so why did this come up? So we were hosting our podcast on a website, and the rights came out. Like, why did we switch over again? I I forgot.

Yeah, it's it's it's really complicated, and there's been a lot of changes over the years. And uh I I I'll start by saying this. We should have done what we're doing, what we've moved to now is what we should have been doing right from the start. And and I uh you know, I was I always I don't know why I don't know why we started. I mean, I mean, hey, it's it's like it's like just because of what I'm doing now and you know the self-hosting thing and you know doing it yourself and all that sort of stuff. So I think that's why we started our own website, and that's initially where everything was hosted, and uh eventually we had to move on from that uh because the our web host at that time started complaining about um uh uh not just our bandwidth but more our disk space, because obviously we're we're now 160 plus episodes, and the amount of disk space that web hosts typically allow you to use for your website is really low. Yeah. And we were way above that, and it would have cost us a lot of money to um to continue with that web host. Uh it would have cost us hundreds of dollars, and now it's just there's just no way that it's yeah, that it's worth it. Um, so then what I did, I think what I did at that time is I moved to my own server. So uh for maybe uh a dozen episodes or something like that, I started hosting them on my own server. So internally here, I created you know the web server and and all that sort of stuff. But I you know, obviously there's a security risk there. You know, I had a firewall set up properly uh to try and lock everything down, and you know what, it just became too much of a hassle to to do all that. So, another move, I ended up moving to Spotify. Spotify allows you - as much as I hate Spotify - but at the time it just seemed like you know, okay, what we don't know what to do next. We've got to get our podcasts online, our episodes online. So we moved to to Spotify. Um what happened was Spotify bitched and complained about our audio clips that we have embedded in our episodes. So obviously, hey, hey, that I mean that's what we're all about, right? We we we love music, we we play um, you know, we play some tracks in the backgrounds uh from these songs that we're you know that we've been listening to that we like that we're trying to share with our audience. And um, you know, yes, it's not entirely legal, I guess, but everybody does it, right? I mean that's no excuse to do it ourselves, but but the thing is everybody does does it. You go to YouTube, and the amount of people doing the same thing on YouTube, and you think I would I would have thought YouTube would have cracked down on all this too, because they are pretty strict about about copyright and all that stuff sort of stuff, and and as right, you know, they should be. But but you look at everything, like people are sharing movies, people are sharing uh music, like people are just sharing everything, and so it's all it's out there, right? So why would Spotify come down on some you know, two old guys who who you know, why do they give a shit about us? Because they they I'm sure don't you know we don't have a big audience, you know, we don't so we don't have a lot of uh listens uh or people downloading our episodes. So why why why did they come after us? I mean, yeah, it's probably just some sort of um AI in the background that's running uh scans of all the episodes and they come across this, and so that it's all automated, right? They just flag whoever. Uh so it's not like they came down on us, I'm sure it happens to everybody, but you know what? It Spotify can go fuck themselves, anyways, because uh yeah, I I I've never liked them. So in a way, they've done us a favour here. So as it stands now, our hope our our our uh our podcast no longer exists on Spotify. So yeah, so so take that. You won't find us there. So and that doesn't bother me one bit. There's lots of other places where people can listen to us. Anyway, 100%. Anyways, we're now the we're now I'm not gonna get into the exact details because there was another step in there where we tried another podcast host, uh Podbean. Anyways, that got that's we got we didn't get fucked around, but they just didn't it just didn't work out. So we now have all of our episodes uploaded to Buzzsprout. And uh not all of them are published yet at this point. I'll be working on that, but yeah, we've all of our episodes are now uploaded there, and uh and and the experience with Bud Sprout has been excellent. There's their support team has been awesome, they've been very prompt and very um very friendly, very accommodating. I guess that's the best word, because because again, we have 160 episodes. They the plan we have, which is the cheapest plan, allows for six hours of audio to be uploaded per month. And we they they allowed us to upload 160 plus episodes, which is I don't know how many hours, and they didn't charge us for it. They erased all of the um overage fees that would have been applied to our account, which would have amounted, by the way, to a thousand dollars. They wiped they wiped that clean, they wiped it clean. So um, so yeah, so good job, Buzzsprout. I would recommend just you know, for people starting out and stuff like that. I've been I've been I'm not gonna get into the big details here, but I fuck things up. You know, you know what? I'm always tinkering around here at home. I'm almost tinkering with my with my home lab. I mean you you laugh, but but it's true because we just we we we connect here, whatever we talk, and we've run into problems all the time. It just seems like but but imagine that with my home lab here at home. I'm always tinkering, I'm always playing around, I'm always trying something new, and I'm always fucking breaking things. And sometimes, you know, I'm learning lots and I like that, but sometimes things get so fucking frustrated, uh frustrating for me is uh and and it's just uh it you know, sometimes I I'm working at something for two days, and then after two days it fucking breaks. So those two days are a total waste, right? And that's been happening a lot lately. But the thing is, and maybe this is part of the problem, I've been using AI to help me work through some of the problems I'm having.

And um uh sometimes I think I'm uh getting the right answers and it's steering me in the right direction, and then sometimes it makes me go one way, and I after six hours I discover that everything that they've told me to do is a fucking waste of time, so I have to start over. Yeah. And and I guess that that's to be expected. Uh but but it's again, it's it's frustrating. It's really it's been really time consuming. And uh I am doing some different things here, and and once once it's done, hopefully it's gonna make things a lot easier for me. Uh, but also some of the people who share my some of these applications and um uh you know family and and small number of friends and stuff like that. And I'm not talking about illegal stuff, I'm talking about things like you know doing search engines, uh search engines without using Google and Bing and all that, right? So a more private, private focus type search engine. Uh things like Nextcloud. Nextcloud replaces uh Office and Google, Google, your Google apps and all that sort of stuff. So it's a way. Oh, it Next cloud also stores, you know, it's a c- it's a cloud. So it stores your documents and all that sort of stuff. Um, they're all up and running, but the way I'm changing the management of it and the way people or how people access these different things. So uh image, which I've talked about before, Immich is a Google Photos replacement. It works great, it works really well. Um, but again, just changing how my family accesses uh that particular application. So um yeah, so that's what I kind of been doing all weekend and again all morning, and that's why I was a little bit late and scrambling a little bit and why things didn't work here right away with my microphone and stuff. So um, but yeah, anyways, back to AI. Yes, I have been using it a little bit here at home. Here's here's what I've been using, or I've been trying, and it so I've been trying Copilot, I've been trying Brave. Brave has their own AI engine built into the browser. So I've been using that, and also all of these are free. I'm not willing to pay money for AI. There's there's just no way. And you know what? Maybe if I did, maybe I'd get some better answers that I wouldn't be wasting my so much time all the time. But anyway, uh so um what was I saying? So Copilot, Brave, the other one is Gemini. Gemini is Google's new AI engine. It used to be called something else, wasn't it? Maybe it was just Google Assistant. Maybe that's what it was. They changed it now to Gemini. So um so I've been using those. Have there been others? I don't know. I don't think so. Anyways, I've got mixed feelings about it. Um you know, I I don't I can't I can see it being helpful for some stuff. Uh I'm still very I'm still scared of it. And you have to be very careful. And I you know what? At the big picture, I just think it's gonna ruin us. I really do. I just think people are gonna become too dependent on it and it's going to affect us in a negative way. And um yeah, uh yeah, it's just I don't think it's a good thing.

Well, it takes the way, it takes the humanity out of things. Like I've used it, I use it for simple things. Like if I see something I want water bottle or something, and you're looking for water bottles. Whatever I if I take a photo and go to AI, find me this photo with a link to purchase. It goes finds it, goes, here's the link, I buy it and I'm good. Like right. It it does save some time that way. Like they took like, remember Google Lens? Google Lens was kind of there, but AI is kind of the next level for that, so it's really good. I use it to help proofread some things. Sometimes it makes it sound a little robotic, so you know, there's different prompts and stuff you can use to kind of clean up your text, whatever it is. It's okay for some photo editing stuff. I've edited some photos with it because it just does it in 10 seconds. Fix the lighting, remove this person, whatever it kind of has to do. It's it's pretty quick that way. Um, the prime the one that I primarily use is ChatGPT. I I think so far for me that one works the best. Are you paying for that? Um, so the when I was doing the logo stuff. It offered me a like a $25 plan. Yeah. Uh so but it was free. So it was free for a month. I've since cancelled it. I'm not paying $25 for it. Yeah. So I'm back on that free plan. But they have kind of a mid-grade, like which is a $10 a month plan. Because I do kind of use it for a bunch of different things. Like, you know, once you start using it and you see how it works and you're just your regular flow and like use it for researching stuff and finding like I use it a lot for the news. Like Trump's a fucking idiot. So like what do we say? Like, find me the reference, you know. You you can you can upload a video and like find me the stuff he's talking about here, and I'll link you to different news articles and stuff about right, you know, what he's talking about, and uh so you can make your own opinion and figure out he really is an idiot. So, you know, stuff like that I think is is pretty cool, like it helps your kind of flow in your workday, but for doing different things, like you use like a lot of programmers are using it for different things, and sure it helps you out and does things, but it's nowhere near as good as a guy who has 10 years experience programming something. Do you know what I mean? Yeah, but uh you are 100% right. It's it's it's going to I don't think you can rely on it. I think you can use it as a tool to help you do things or generate some ideas to point you in the right direction, but it can't replace um your workflow, which I think a lot of people are trying to get it to do.

People people are jumping right in and expecting it to basically do everything for them, yeah, and then and they're not and they're not even um uh just a simple thing. They're not even proofreading it, right? Like like you said, they they are okay, make this better, make my resume sound better. Well, you look at that resume after it's been through AI, and you know right away that it's not that person writing it. You know, if you know who who the person is, of course. Yeah, like like people, people I know people use it at work because I know how they talk, I know how they used to communicate before AI, and now I can see some of this stuff that they're spitting out in emails and and memos and other documents. I know right away they've put that through AI because it doesn't even sound like them anymore, right? And it's and it's that sort of stuff that you know is I don't know. It's just people are becoming too dependent on it too quickly and without realizing the um you know the the implications or the or the negative aspects of it. And and that's yes, I agree, that's the issue that that we've got here, and it's just not it's not gonna end well. I don't think. Yeah, I don't know what the answer is, but um well, I was gonna say too, there there are, and and uh you know what, I don't know enough about each of them, but some platforms, AI platforms are better at specific tasks than others, like and again, not I don't know which ones they they might be, but as an example, I'm sure there are there is an AI platform that the programmers prefer because it is better for coding and all that sort of stuff, right? There's probably an AI platform that's better for writing letters and and and that sort of stuff, or obviously AI for photos and generating other graphics and and that sort of thing. Um so they're just popping up everywhere though. It just seems like AI is everywhere, and every uh one of these bigger companies are are trying to jump in uh or you know, get on board because they don't want to miss the show. And uh yeah, it's just become too big, too fast, too overwhelming, and it's just yeah, it's not good.

Like you walked, stepped outside and it felt like you were like in a sauna. I remember one day being really bad, everything else was kind of warm, but it wasn't too bad. And now it's back to grey and bullshit.

Yeah, well, I I I mean, I know Alberta, it rained a lot in the summer. We didn't get a lot of rain here in Vancouver. So on the on the West Coast, we didn't we didn't get much. Um you're right, it wasn't hot like it has been in previous years, but I don't know that it was a bad summer. It wasn't a hot summer, but you know, it was still I thought it was okay because I can't handle the heat anymore. Um it's just it's just too much. But uh, you know, we certainly didn't have the heat waves over in Europe this year, and I think they're still having problems, aren't they? Because it's just that's just you look at um yeah, and it's cooler here today. Yesterday wasn't that bad. Yesterday was a decent day. Um, today's a little bit cooler. I think the rest the rest of the week we're looking kind of low 20s, so that's alright. Um you look at everything happening though in the world again, and and you know, this this this climate change business is is real and it's becoming worse and worse. The if the effects of it are becoming worse and worse. Look at look at Nepal, what happened? Look at the um oh yeah, you know, look at look at the fires again, you know, here in Canada, but also over in Europe. Look at the heat waves over in Europe. Every single day you turn around, there's an event happening, and it's all can all be attributed to climate change. And it's it's becoming worse and worse and worse. And um, you know, you still have people throughout the world, including the dickhead down south who who is doing things that is just gonna make matters worse. And um it's just yeah, it's when are people gonna understand that there's not gonna be a world left for future generations if we keep going the way we're going? And I'm not talking hundreds of years, I'm talking in twenty years things will be drastically different than they are now. And what are people gonna have to do in order to well, survive? I mean, we maybe that sounds a little bit extreme, but that's what we're entering here. This is extreme weather that we're having, and extreme climate events um you know, are are affecting the world everywhere. Yeah.

Yeah, uh Wednesday, we I think we got that because it our summer, you know, August is hot, we kind of have a couple days, but September usually gets pretty warm. Yeah, and so next Wednesday we're looking at a high of 25. Yeah, and um yeah, it's it's gonna might stay up a little bit and then it just kind of drops. I think October 1st it's back to fall. Yeah, I'm I'm I'm pretty stoked. I'm not excited about the uh I haven't packed for a major vacation like this because like we're doing so much shit. I actually ended up buying because you know, we're doing these waterfall tours and shit, so I'm like looking for like a good pair of hiking boots and all this shit. And so I used the evil entity of Amazon, ordered maybe five or six pairs of boots, whatever it was, and uh tried to find the right boot. They just don't fit. You have to go into a store and try it. But the one thing that worked for me was I got ad-targeted. I got ad targeted by Vans and like, hey, we have this new hiking boot. I'm like, really? Oh wow and so I went and tried this hiking boot from Vance. I called the store at MetroTown called them. They had it, I went and got it, and um, yeah, it was it fits like a van shoe, like it's perfect. It's Gore-Tex, it's a high top sneaker. It's like they had this mountain edition shoe, which I really enjoyed forever. Um, but this is kind of like the next level of it, and it's full Gore-Tex, full everything. So uh I picked one of those up. It was 200 bucks. But the good thing about it is that in store promotion, they had a BOGO, a buy one, get one. So the girlfriend's uh tried a pair of the same kind of boots on, and she said they were more comfier than her 400 boots that she just ended up buying. So uh, and so we got both pairs for like 300 bucks, which is you can't beat that. You know, and that's the positive going out to the stores and doing this stuff. So uh I bought a new Gore-Tex jacket. Like, I'm ready to rock. Why are you spending money on the well? We live in Vancouver, it's probably raining now. So um I bought uh our fancy Arc'teryx jacket, which I'm pretty stoked on.

Well, well, it sounds like you are not staying in Reykjavik anyways, right? You it's you're renting a car and you're going. So I I would just, you know, I I can't because we saw so little, I don't know that I can recommend any one thing. Um, you know, of course, we did do the spas or whatever they're called. Uh, not well, there is Blue Lagoon, but the other one is uh Sky Lagoon. Sky Lagoon, yes, which is closer to Reykjavik. Um, we really enjoyed that just because it's so cool, it's so relaxing. It's just uh just you you should finish your vacation with a visit to one of those places because after all that hiking and whatever, you'd you you probably enjoy that. Um but the only thing I would recommend is not necessarily a place, but when you do make your plans, make sure you allow for enough time to look around and stuff like that. Because you know, we only did the one-day trip because we were there for three nights, but basically, you know, the first day is shot, the second day we can go out and do something, and then the third day, well, I think we what is that three days? I mean, anyways, we didn't have much time to do much. We just had yeah, we ended up having uh a tour the one day, and the thing is we visited these three or four places, but it never allowed for enough time, and that's because it was a shuttle, it was a tour with other people and they drove us around. Whereas if you're by yourself, it it's definitely different, of course. But still, we visited these places, we had a look at some stuff, we spent a little bit of time there. But if you wanted to do a little bit of hiking and see a little bit more of these areas, well, you have to rent your own car and go yourself because the tours don't allow for any extra time, right? Um so so that, anyways, so yes, spend, make a plan, and whenever wherever you stop, if there's something in particular that you want to see, make sure you plan for it. You know, plan enough time in your yeah in your itinerary or your whatever you're you know, if you're making a uh you know, drive where you want to drive every day and all that sort of stuff. Try and yeah, try and spend some time looking at these places instead of just driving, stopping, taking a couple pictures, and then carrying on your way again.

So yeah, it takes take some time and look around. Um we got a northern lights tour planned. We're renting an ATV on a tour and ripping around some waterfalls and doing a black sand beach and shit. Yeah, um, we're sleeping in an igloo to hopefully see the northern lights. Um, so we'll we'll just kinda we'll kind of see what happens. But I'm just like I got that little bit of travel anxiety. Do you know like because you don't know what like the like getting there is no problem. I have no problems flying, but like you know, there's so many moving parts to like a trip like this, you're just kind of like, oh fuck, yeah. I don't know. We'll see. We'll just have to see.

See, see when we went, we we when we went to London, then Paris, and then Reykjavik, you know what, we had no plans. We had we didn't make any pre um pre-arrangements at all for tickets, for trips, for tours. I don't think we did any of that stuff. Um we just kind of won it. That's awesome. And and so we, you know, sure once we arrived, we made some plans for hey, what what are we gonna do the next day type thing? And if it meant buying tickets or something, we would take care of it at that time. But um, I'm not saying that's the way you should do it, but certainly for our trip because there were uh there were shorter visits within each place, so we didn't want to book solid and then find out that no, we didn't want to do something that day and our tickets go to waste or or whatever it is, right? We wanted to just kind of do things uh on our own time at our own pace. Um, but since you're doing a longer trip dedicated to one country, yeah, it's good to have some uh plans in place at least, especially if you're renting a vehicle and all that sort of stuff. It's a big country, again, there's lots to see and do, and you want to you want to try and take advantage of that.

So wait, we didn't we carry we had a carry on each. Um yeah. We actually did end up checking them uh with Iceland Air uh or Air Iceland, Iceland Air, whatever. Iceland Air Um because they were pretty good with all that sort of stuff, and we paid for it, so why not just forget our butter bags, check them and go. Um uh yes, so obviously we've got something. We of course never had to use them, which was great, but um your uh back to your clothing and stuff like that. Obviously, you're you're going to have to be prepared to you know, you're gonna have to dress more appropriately. It's gonna be cool cooler there for sure. I'm looking at the forecast right now, and yeah, they've got they've got some rain coming. It's only a high of like 10 or 11 degrees. Uh maybe it's gonna be a little bit more cooler by the time you get there. Yeah, we're gonna do that. So yeah, you gotta be prepared for all that stuff when you're outside. Um we again we were there that long. We only did the one-day trip and it was raining for part of it. You know, we didn't have to prepare too much. It was middle of May, something like that. Yeah, but still, it was I think it only in Reykjavik at least, it only got up to a high of like 10 degrees or something like that. 10, 11, 12. Uh so it's not that warm. Um I think I was still in shorts for the most part, except for that day trip. But um yeah, you have to be prepared. If you want to do some of this stuff, you gotta be prepared.

Uh you know, it's been it's been uh a what what can I say? It's been uh the last couple weeks haven't been good for listening to music, that's for sure. Uh I was in Alberta for about a week and a half. I don't I didn't mention that to you earlier, but um Well I knew off the air, but you know off year, yeah. So I I mean I was I was in Canmore, I was helping my mom. Uh for whatever reason, I just don't, you know, I don't end up I'm so busy, I don't end up watching any TV or movies. I I don't listen to much music or anything like that. So I think I was a little bit behind and then working on my stupid home lab stuff here. Uh yeah. And I've been a little bit behind with with some of the newer music at least. But uh here's a couple tunes that I've kind of discovered uh along the way. This is a um this is the new sleep that I was uh that I'd mentioned a little bit earlier. This is off their new album. It's called Have Space to Twill Travel. Um I like this too. I like this. I like this tune. And again, um you know it's not Matt Matt Pike anymore, but um it's still pretty good. You yeah, I knew I heard this song yesterday for the very first time. Yesterday or the day before? Yesterday. Um and I knew right away that this was sleep. I could just I knew the voice, the vocals of Al. I forget Al's Al's last name. I don't know how to pronounce it, but yeah, I knew right away it was just some new sleep, or it must have been new sleep, anyways. Um yeah, good tune. And and again, because because it's a good song, it would be nice to see the show coming up in in whatever, a week and a half. But or two weeks, but yeah, I don't know. I don't know if I'll make it. So I think it's September 20th, isn't it? Yes, it is. Yeah, so it's the night the night before the Elder and Blackwater Holylight show.

I don't know that there's anything different about it, but it sounds great. Yeah, they're they're just a they're just a fun band. Oh yeah, clutch. Obviously in concert. Um always good to see live. So yeah, really cool stuff. Uh here's a band from Sweden that I that I just discovered too. Uh I don't even know how to pronounce their their their name. Uh should I try it? No, I can't do it. So Besvärjelsen. Bez no, that's not it. Bez Bezbarjelson. Uh yeah, so that sounds maybe. Not bad. Not bad. Yeah, so this is a a new song. I I have I have no idea who these guys are. I think they've been around for a little bit. I think I don't think this is their first album, uh, which is out now as well on Magnetic Eye Records, but this is a track called Accelerating Hearts. Just uh cool psychedelic stoner rock. I hate that term stoner rock, but uh you know, I guess it's got that it's got that sound to it. Yeah, good tune. I'll be checking out some more of this stuff. I'll have to listen to the rest of the album, maybe some of the early stuff. Yeah, really cool. I love that down-tuned guitar like that. Just sounds so cool. Uh, alright. And one last one last thing for you. This is uh this is a I don't know what this uh concert was. It's uh from a site or a channel called Adopt the Arts. Um and I don't know what the event was for. It's some award show or something like that, because I know that there were a bunch of performances. This was back in March, but they just released this video now, so um I I don't know much more than that, but it is War Pigs, Black Black Sabbath's War Pigs, but it's uh performed by Geezer Butler, Corey Taylor, Steve Stevens, Nino Bettencourt, and Matt Sorum. And it's a it's a great cover. One of the great and uh yeah, I really enjoy this. I'm surprised uh you didn't being a big uh Corey Taylor fan in particular, I'm surprised that you didn't notice this one.

What We Watched And Horror Plans

Um I'll go first with shit. I'm watching, I'm not really watching much. I'm always behind on life. I ended up watching The Whisperman. It's currently on Netflix. It's like a whodunit kind of thing. Robert De Niro's in it. Uh, kind of like a psychological thriller kind of thing. Uh, I give it a five out of ten. So if you're really bored, pick it up. If you're uh got something better to watch, don't watch it. Um, I'm re-watching some of the Marvel movies to get ready for Avengers Doomsday coming out uh December 18th in theaters. And um, I found a new comedian who I really like, Andrew Schultz. Uh some some good stuff. He's got a special on Netflix right now, and it's it's fucking funny, man. Uh so check it out if you want to get your laugh on. But uh, I've been pretty behind on movies and shows. A lot of the stuff is on my list that you have on your lists. Uh Silo, Lioness, all the shit I want to get watching, but yeah, I am behind on life. What do you uh what did you end up watching this week?

Uh well, like I said, I think like music, I think my TV and uh movies have been lacking or behind uh lately for sure. Um probably the only thing we've been watching is Lioness, as it comes out uh on Sundays every week. So we're I don't know, I forget which episode came out last night, but anyway, so there's that. We are finishing up Tulsa King before it. Uh that's season three of Tulsa King before the new season starts uh next month, I believe. You know what? Tulsa King is is not, I don't know if you've seen it. It's not. The first season was really good. I think the first season was really good, but it's just I don't know. I uh it's not it's not great. It it it is, it's I mean there's some decent episodes, but you know what? The overall overall a lot of the acting just really sucks. It does. It's different from you know, it's got the high production and you know, all that sort of stuff, but it's it's not as much so as the other series by Taylor Sheridan. Like like if you look at Lion ess, I mean it's a different story, of course, but very high production. Like I'm sure he's spent a lot of money producing these shows. Uh Lioness, some of the other ones, of course, like Yellowstone and all that sort of stuff. Like he's doing so much right now. Um yeah, so it's I don't know. I I I don't know why we're we're watching it. I think we started it and it's good enough to kind of keep us going, and then with a new season coming out, I guess that's why we're gonna finish it off. There are some new things starting up too in in later in September and October that we're gonna keep our eye on. Um I can't even remember what those might be now, but yeah, there's some new stuff. So we want to get you wanna we wanna get things we want to get caught up on things like Tulsa King and and whatever else to to maybe get ready for for these new seasons coming up. Um uh what was I gonna say? Um yeah, we haven't watched any movies. Um yeah, that's I don't know. That's it. It's kind of kind of boring for us. So uh oh, I am gonna be getting prepared for my yearly uh Horror fest, uh obviously, and I and I you typically start a little bit early. Um just because I never can get through 31 shows in 31 days uh of October. So I yeah, I typically start a little bit early. But yes, I've got a list of movies that I that I want to see, ones that I probably have not seen before, because sometimes I I do watch a show because I'm interested for whatever reason, and even though I've seen it before. Um yeah, so I've got I've got that. So maybe next time we chat I'll have a couple movies to talk about there. Some horror movies, some good horror movies, I hope.

So uh he got diagnosed with cancer and he came out like maybe eight months ago, nine months says he'll beat it. But he's like uh he goes uh quits off the Hollywood reporter with the type of cancer that I have, which I won't get into. The current thing is a five-year deal. Uh he's decided he's gonna go through it and live with it, and uh so you know his internal clock is now is now ticking, which sucks. The big C but how old is he? Bruce Campbell is 68 years old.

Uh since we're talking about that, I mean and this was inevitable inevitable because of all you know, all of our heroes, all of the musicians, actors, uh all of those things now that we grew up with. I mean Dolly Parton, Frank Beard, uh, who else? I mean, we're we're just talking in the last two weeks, like, you know, some you know, some big names here, and it's just it's it's I'm sure every time we chat or catch up, I'm sure we can probably talk about somebody who's just passed away, and it's yeah, it's not good. We with what has happened in the past month, we as Canadians really need to to stick together, and we need to uh really we need to Boycott USA. Seriously, we we do make sure what you're buying at the store is Canadian made. Uh if if if possible actual Canadian products too. You know what? I was uh this this really shocked me the other day. I I like to buy I'll buy blueberries in the summertime. I love blueberries. Yeah, I used I buy them in the summertime in boxes and stuff, and I'll freeze them and whatever. Uh when it when I run out, I'll buy them. I usually buy the frozen ones from Costco. And I and I swear that those blueberries were Canadian blueberries. So I mean, I was sure that they came from obviously probably well, I don't think it said where or which farm, but I'm sure they came from the Fraser Valley, right? I'm positive they said made in Canada or blueberries in Canada or whatever. Well, I bought a bag of blueberries from Costco the other day and they are American. Sounds a bit and and I think it said from the USA but packaged in Canada. Well, like like f when they when they're in our back step here, right? You know, there's there's no excuse for us to be getting American blueberries. Again, this is just one example, but yeah, but like it's just like and to say when we have them in our backyard and to say that they are American but packaged in Canada, well, you know what? That doesn't make it any better. If if they are items that cannot be grown or made or manufactured or whatever in Canada, then that's okay. You know, like like peanut butter. I don't think we I don't think we grow peanuts in Canada, do we? That's a maybe I should know that. I don't think so. But I haven't had peanuts in a long time. But well you're I think you're allergic to that. Yes, yes. Not on my radar. Yeah. So so and and Costco does that, I think. They have uh there's I think their own Kirkland brand. I think it's uh yes, they Are peanuts from America, but they're roasted and made and packaged uh into peanut butter here. Did I say America or Canada? They're grown in America, or they can't come from America, but they're they're uh processed and packaged here in Canada. So and it says so in the packaging. So so okay, so that's fine. But when it comes to things like blueberries, which we have an abundance of here and they taste taste awesome, awesome here, there is no excuse for them to come from the US and just say packaged in Canada. That's just garbage. So yeah, I don't know what I'm gonna do about that. Um it kind of pissed me off, but it but it's things like that though, right? That I'm talking about uh and anything else that's that's made in America, just like fucking boycott it. Like Trump needs to we need we need to send a stronger message than ever. Um yeah, you know, I know we've talked about this before, and you know, the travelling and buying Canadian, but we really need to clamp down and do it because you know there are some things like they're whining and crying about liquor, their liquor not being sold in stores up here, except for fucking Alberta, a bunch of fucking losers. Okay, there's that's another conversation, is that stupid cow there, I tell you. But anyway. Um Saskatchewan though, too. But anyways, you know, but you know what? That that really took a big hit out of not just the liquor industry in America, but the their economy as a whole. And that's why this was brought up in these recent negotiating, uh, these new re recent negotiations is that that really it really hurt them. And they and and they wanted that to be fixed and part of whatever agreement we have with them going forward. And I'm you know what I'm I'm glad that at least like obviously I wish we had come to some sort of agreement that's beneficial for both sides, but since that's not the case, let's just fucking hammer them hard, man. Let's just stop with all of this stuff. Keep the liquor off the shelves, stop buying other products that are made in America, don't travel there. It's gonna hurt them. Uh, they're except for his his stupid rec Republican buddies. Uh I think the rest of America is pissed off about what is going on, and they want to stop. But uh I don't know. I guess we just gotta keep working at it, and maybe those guys will clue in someday that you know. You know, Trump talks about us being arrogant and and nasty. And you know, yes, people are losing their jobs, uh, but overall, I don't think we've suffered as bad as people expected us to. Yeah. Uh of course these new set of tariffs uh haven't they haven't kicked in long enough to for for us to really know for sure um if things are gonna get bad. But uh I mean I mean, and then that's just you know, we gotta that's why we gotta stick together. Yeah, it sucks that people might be out of a job, but you know, let's the government is trying to do things to help them. Let's try and stick together and and just kind of ride through this, and I I'm sure we'll be better off for it if we can just you know, if we can do that. So yeah. Um yeah, so we'll see.

No, I agree. It's um we're kind of in rough shape, but uh if we stick together and try to do something to combat it or do whatever it's gonna do to you know, uh make us stronger, I think. I think if we stick together it'll make us stronger. So yeah, that's the way to do it.

For for sure. Because um because peep too many people, too many other countries have rolled over for Trump. And and that and that's and that's the biggest thing that you know again they should have come to an agreement of some kind for both sides, but the US wanted too much, especially at the last minutes, and regardless of Trump thinking that we're to blame, that's bullshit. Everybody knows that he's a big liar. Um it's good we didn't roll over because too many other countries have done so, and we would have been much better better, we would have been much worse off if we had rolled over like America wanted us to. And um yeah, we we can't let that happen. And that's and it's people might hate Carney. Actually, I think most people do like it, him, and they do like the fact that that he's doing this. But there are still obviously the conservatives and you know those right-wing idiots, you know, they don't they don't it doesn't matter to them, they just don't like the guy, so they're gonna bitch about everything he does. So of course. Um you know, but it but it's good that he is he is doing it's good somebody is sticking up for themselves and not bowing down to Trump because everybody else has. He's just taking and taking and taking and doing and doing and doing, and nobody's stopping him.

But until that ever happens, you're gonna unify the people, and that's right. That's easier said than done. But I don't know what the don't know how to come along doing that. I don't know what to do to get us there. I have I have no idea. But uh all we can do is bitch and bring awareness and uh hopefully people are on the right page and try to make some sort of a change.
